It’s not too surprising that former Newcastle striker Demba Ba, who joined Chelsea from Newcastle almost exactly a year ago, has been told he can leave the London club by manager Jose Mourinho.
Demba Ba – while at Newcastle
The move is said to be dependent on Chelsea signing another striker in the January transfer window, and it seems that Arsenal would be interested in signing the striker.
But Newcastle are also reported to be interested in signing the Senegal striker, who scored 29 goals in 58 appearances for the Magpies over a short magical 18 months at Newcastle.
And it seems he is available for the same fee Chelsea paid for him from Newcastle a year ago – around £7.5M, and that’s a bargain price for a striker who has proved at West Ham and Newcastle he can score goals in the Premier League.
The news is in the Daily Telegraph, but if Arsenal are really interested, there’s little chance Newcastle can resign the 28 year-old striker and at £7.5M there could be other big clubs in for him.
Demba Ba was a popular player among Newcastle fans, and a lot will depend on what the player himself wants to do, but he enjoyed his stay on Tyneside, and he has remained in contact with manager Alan Pardew, and there are cordial relations between the two of them, and he loved his short time on Tyneside.
Certainly he would be a terrific signing for us if we can get him back to Tyneside, but as we said before – a lot will depend on where Demba Ba wants to go – or maybe its more accurate to say where his agents want him to go.
But Ba could do a lot worse than return to Newcastle, where he will be the main man again, and will get lots of games, and hopefully lots of goals, and that’s something he has not had since he left Newcastle twelve months ago.
And as Alan Pardew has recently pointed out, the grass is not always greener away from Newcastle.
