Newcastle Could Be Back In For Demba Ba

9:29 am, Friday, January 3rd, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 31 Comments

It’s not too surprising that former Newcastle striker Demba Ba, who joined Chelsea from Newcastle almost exactly a year ago, has been told he can leave the London club by manager Jose Mourinho.

demba ba a wave

Demba Ba – while at Newcastle

The move is said to be dependent on Chelsea signing another striker in the January transfer window, and it seems that Arsenal would be interested in signing the striker.

But Newcastle are also reported to be interested in signing the Senegal striker, who scored 29 goals in 58 appearances for the Magpies over a short magical 18 months at Newcastle.

And it seems he is available for the same fee Chelsea paid for him from Newcastle a year ago – around £7.5M, and that’s a bargain price for a striker who has proved at West Ham and Newcastle he can score goals in the Premier League.

The news is in the Daily Telegraph, but if Arsenal are really interested, there’s little chance Newcastle can resign the 28 year-old striker and at £7.5M there could be other big clubs in for him.

Demba Ba was a popular player among Newcastle fans, and a lot will depend on what the player himself wants to do, but he enjoyed his stay on Tyneside, and he has remained in contact with manager Alan Pardew, and there are cordial relations between the two of them, and he loved his short time on Tyneside.

Certainly he would be a terrific signing for us if we can get him back to Tyneside, but as we said before – a lot will depend on where Demba Ba wants to go – or maybe its more accurate to say where his agents want him to go.

But Ba could do a lot worse than return to Newcastle, where he will be the main man again, and will get lots of games, and hopefully lots of goals, and that’s something he has not had since he left Newcastle twelve months ago.

And as Alan Pardew has recently pointed out, the grass is not always greener away from Newcastle.

What do you think?

£5 mill done deal I say.Proved his worth and hopefully has realised the grass isn’t always greener on the other side

Not sure how I feel about this, the only returning player I can think of which I would class as a success would be Beardsley.

From a Man Utd fan on Sky Sports :

Good article, but there’s one note of absence and that is United’s defending and lack of balance in the team. Young, Nani, Januzaj and Kagawa never, ever track back. Van Persie barely does any pressing from his position, leaving Rooney and Valencia(and Welbeck when he’s playing) covering half of the pitch on their own! And you can see it on the amount of goals they are conceiding at the break. Yesterday’s game shows that almost every time Lennon got the ball, he was alone with Evra. Same could be said about Adebayor and Smalling. Lennon’s first chance and both Spurs’ goals yesterday, three against three. Why? No back tracking from United’s wings. You look at Chelsea, Liverpool and City and how their wingers run up and down the pitch like crazy helping fullback all the time. I remember Ronaldo in his last season at OT, he was all over the place. Game against Arsenal in CL. Everyone was tracking back and defending. Everyone. That balance is missing. Well that and SAF

Why tease with rumours lol ..
Adam Campbell scores on his loan debut yesterday.
    Demba Ba for St Mirren

  • 5 mindshaft // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:40 AM

Well the fee would be 7.5 million plus a couple of million signing bonus / agents fees

We stand no chance if any of the current top 7 ( maybe with the exception of Everton ) put a bid in.

Ba never worked very well with Cisse so I guess that means Cisse would be gone and we’d stick Remy out on the wing which is his alleged preferred position

Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba Ba

Humbug. And if arsenal are in the queue, so long, Giroud!

  • 7 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:44 AM

If we were prepared to pay 9 mill for gomis and we could get ba for around the 5-6 mill mark I know 100% who I would sooner have. And would guarantee 15 goals+ per season.
The sooner this position is addressed the better in my opinion as were gonna be left in a mess come end of season if Remy decides to play elsewhere

Would want Ba back over all the strikers we’ve been linked with. To me it’s a bit of a no brainer if its it’s possible.

On heitinga. The reason he can’t get in to everyone’s team is because he’s not very good. He’s their Simpson or willo (of old). As in every time they conceded a goal it’s his fault. The Everton fans all think he’s rubbish.

Oh and ill he gob smacked if we get this cabella, I just think he’ll be too expensive.

  • 9 Tsunki // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:44 AM

See how I did that? :)

  • 10 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:45 AM

i would love Ba back, him & Remy up top or Remy on the left

    Debuchy, Willo, MYM, Santon
    Sissoko, Cabaye, Tiote
    HBA, BA, Remy

    spot on mate

  • 12 Tsunki // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:46 AM

Harley – haven’t you heard? We’re calling Saylor the new Willo. Saylo.

Is that Harley Quinn btw? :)

  • 13 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:47 AM

Exactly my point bud.Cisse or ba were never wide men so it was destined to fail.Where as remy likes to play in that position with ba through the middle
If it became a choice between ba or cisse I would choose ba all day long

  • 14 Slank // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:50 AM

I could see Ba going to West Ham or even Arsenal as both are in need of strikers and both London based.

Don’t want Ba as he was only interested in the money. I wonder whether he has a ‘get out clause’ in his current contract with Chelsea.

I would much prefer Shane Long who seems unwanted at WBA.

  • 15 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:51 AM

    Black n white
You have got to squeeze Cabella I there somewhere when we sign him lol !!!

  • 16 croftus5678 // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:52 AM

i agree always thought ba was the better of the 2 and anywhere under 10mil i’d take him if it was my choice.

still cant see us signing remy though tbh and we will not sell cisse in such bad form as no one will take him for the amount we are after so i’d like luuk personally.

and this remy we’ve been linked with as good as he looks and would improve us i’d rather spend the money trying to get ince.

  • 17 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:52 AM

if BA came back to Newcastle i would keep Shola till the end of the season and have Cisse loaned out for 3 months

  • 18 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:53 AM

i know mate, it’s mind boggling this lol

  • 19 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:54 AM

    Debuchy, Willo, MYM, Santon
    Cabaye, Tiote
    Cabella, Sissoko/HBA, Remy

  • 20 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:58 AM

3 players could change our fortunes

but for this to happen we need to get rid off

  • 21 jazzyp // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:58 AM

I understand your point with ba on looking like a mercenary,But the same can be said of Loic remy who screwed us over big time last term. But hey we swallowed our pride and he has turned out as yet to be a success story and so would be the return of ba if it was to happen ??

  • 22 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 3, 2014 at 9:59 AM

Get Ba , Shane Long and Ince for prob under 10 million plus agent fees

Get rid of Cisse , Jonas, Obertan and Gosling for about the same

If we really dont want to break into our overdraft the club must be able to get rid of the deadwood and replace with better squad members its the only way to improve

  • 23 Transfer Sage // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:00 AM

Well all these links are starting….let’s hope some of them come off. We desperately need more forwards/wide men who can get goals. Could also do with a valbuena type in the centre of the park.

Time for Ashley to show if he means business or not. A slight dip in form the past 2 games and shakey against the 11 men if stoke. We just need a bit more quality and freshening up.

  • 24 Transfer Sage // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:01 AM

I don’t think we need to get rid of cisse now. That can wait til the summer if at all.

We are losing possibly remy (loan) and shola (out of contract) so getting rid of cisse could be dangerous knowing how slow we sometimes do business.

  • 25 croftus5678 // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:05 AM

hmm i’m kinda in two minds with reguards to marv/arfa tbh !!!

thing is marv prob makes more of a contribution to the team than arfa does with reguards to what they do for the team but arfa entertains me ! but they both annoy me and are selfish players and not that great for the team imo.

i’m thinking another goofy for example would be far more benefit to us that maybe both of them.

  • 26 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:08 AM

we have atm and not including youths

    x2 GK – Krull – Elliot
x 4 CB – Saylor, Willo, Collo, MYM
    x 2 RB – Debuchy, Santon
    x 2 LB – Haidara, Dummet
x 5 CM – Cabaye, Tiote, Anita, Sissoko, Jonas
    x 1 Winger – Obertan
    x 1 playmaker/Winger – Marv
    x 2 inside forwards – Remy, HBA
    x 1 poacher – Cisse
    x 2 advance forwards – Remy, Gouffran
    x 1 target man – Shola

our young lads who have hit the first team

    x 1 CM – Bigi
    x 1 Inside forward – Sammy
    x 1 St – Campbell

so to me we need Cabella and Ince to fill in the Wingers spot and BA to fill in the Striker/Advance forward role

  • 27 Harley // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:09 AM

That took me a few seconds to work out there lol!!

Yes, very short memories on here. Taylor suddey is the new Simpson/willo. If cabaye scored an own goal a lot on here would say it was Taylor’s fault. Even if he was on the bench!!!

  • 28 Jail for Ashley // Jan 3, 2014 at 10:19 AM

Does nobody think Loic Remys lack of form of late is linked to this rape case, the longer it keeps getting delayed the more likely it is he will be getting charged, Mister Tuff will be able to offer a more valid opinion on the case.

  • 29 geordiemark // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:16 AM

like I said yesturday id put sossisko up top with remy if hes still around ( arsenal sniffing about ) hes a moutain of a man we should get him to use his height more then we are at the moment

we need another striker and if ba is available then get him least he knows the score here and knows the set up id allow either shola or cissie to go out on loan or sold either way am not bothered

I know theres lots of people on this site love ben arfa yes hes brilliant and an excellent player but thats when he wants to be id sell him but not cheap thats for sure id be after cabella to take his place and I reckon theres still a question mark over krul as well I think if we can get another keeper in krul be on his way, with these stories about jagielka or his dutch mate first off they wont sell jagielka and ill be a better defender then the dutch player so no go there either

  • 30 Sav // Jan 3, 2014 at 11:41 AM

Good plan. But if Arsenal want him, that’s it.

  • 31 AmericanGeordie // Jan 3, 2014 at 6:46 PM

I would love to have Ba back (and if we could sign Remy permanently, we could sell Cisse to fund some of Ba’s fee).

However, the problem isn’t the transfer fee, or even Newcastle’s or Ba’s willingness to reunite and do the deal.

The issue that will prevent this deal from happening are the wages that Ba is on under his new Chelsea contract. I’m sure that they are outside our budget, and I’m even more sure that Ba will NOT be taking any paycuts.
