Montpellier Chief Denies Contact With Newcastle On Target

6:44 pm, Saturday, January 4th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 55 Comments

Montpellier President Laurent Nicollin is certainly no friend of Newcastle United, and he was the one who said that his captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa had made a terrible choice when he joined Newcastle last January.

Remy Cabella Montpellier +Herault+SC+v+Toulouse+TiKjXZRmypXl

Remy Cabella – Montpellier midfielder targeted by Magpies

And the fact that out top target this January is Montpellier’s midfielder Remy Cabella may be some resistance from he Montpellier President.

This is what Nicollin said in L’Equipe last January after Mapou joined Newcastle:

“If he’s an ass, it’s not my fault, but I think his manager has a lot to do with it. Newcastle really isn’t a good choice.”

“He’ll get himself moved on next year, but it doesn’t bother me. He agreed with my son Laurent, that he could leave if he found a club he liked. We’re not going to cry.”

” His head was no longer at Montpellier, but it’s not a problem. He’s not irreplaceable. The important thing is that we get some money in.”

Thee have been reports in France that the deal for Remy Cabella may have already been completed – but it seems those reports are off the mark.

Louis Nicolli

70 year-old Montpellier President Laurent Nicollin

This is the latest pronouncement from the Montpellier President on the Newcastle target, and he reckons there has been no contact with Newcastle – which seems odd:

“He is at the club so far. It has not been forecasted that he would leave in January.” “There has been talk about a departure in June, there is an agreement in principle.”

“Agents have called me, but I am on holiday. We will see, on Monday. Anyway, there is absolutely no contact with the Newcastle club.”

“Remy is at the club and I hope he will remain until June. Of course, there are some offers you cannot refuse.”

Presumably that agreement in principle with some club is not with Newcastle.

Cabella is a very talented player and has scored six goals in 18 appearances for Montpellier this season, and those are goals from midfield for a side that has been struggling this season, after winning the French League for the very first time the season before last.

Cabella would be a very good signing for Newcastle,  and certainly Montpellier need the money – just like they did last January when we signed Yanga=Mbiwa.

What do you think?

cabella would be totally destroyed and ruined by pardew like Ben arfa, marveaux, MYM , Cisse, Anita etc

  • 2 NUFCarter // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:48 PM

My post from previous thread was to TDS not Himanshu regarding Rosicky :)

2morrow we will be linked with million players. like we r doing something. but at the end we ll sign nobody with exuces-we tried but couldnt, their price was 2 high for us etc

  • 4 Graeme // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:49 PM

    Douglas @ 107 previous post.

Since when did Pardew have any say in what happens at NUFC??
He is an employee, no more, no less.
The Illustrious Owner has stated what he expects and that is what Pardew will strive to deliver. The Owner does not want the distractions of a cup run as it is extra games for the players.
The Illustrious Owner wants the Club to Finish no lower than 10th and no higher than 6th. The Place money plus the TV money is THE ONLY THING that matters.

  • 5 NUFCarter // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:52 PM

Has anyone got a link to Pardews post match interview?

  • 6 Ted Bundy // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:53 PM

From now on, I support my legs as they support me, stuff this poxy club. Waste of time, energy and money going to watch that limp-wristed shite today – why did the straw break the camels back? Because of the million of other straws preceding it.

Look at all the old guys on here, bitter as out because they’ve supported the club for 50+ years for meagre return – not me, I’m getting out young!

  • 7 bills-son // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:54 PM

If we were 5th with 4/5 games to play what instructions do you think Ashley would give to Pardew?

Throw a few games to finish 6th or lower?

  • 8 Rotonda heights // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:54 PM

we don’t need a superstar manager just someone up and coming with some sort of pedigree who plays attacking creative football with some method.

There must be other Solksjaers, Laudrups, Pochettinos etc out there.
Berkgkamp could be an inspired choice, but with our set up (Jail) it would never happen.

  • 9 Thump // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:54 PM

Just got back in from work. My mate was updating me throughout, apparently we came out kicking and screaming in the second half and then, after scoring our goal, just went to sleep? What the f is happening at this club?

  • 10 NUFCarter // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:54 PM

    Walcott haha. 2-0 ;)

  • 11 Graeme // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:55 PM

Bills, we would no doubt find out – if and when it happens!!

  • 12 Toon1978 // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:55 PM

Lol what makes people think we will sign Cabella? We have no ambition. Any club with ambition targets the players they want and they get them by hook or by crook. Ashley constantly looking for cost cutting deals.

  • 13 WWSBRD // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:56 PM

Montpellier are 17th and have won 2 games in 19 this season…I dont think they are in a position to be spouting off especially considering the French league isnt the strongest and will soon be losing their stars due to the new tax rules

  • 14 WWSBRD // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:57 PM

Haha Walcott is brilliant but he will get fined for that

  • 15 NUFCarter // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:57 PM

We rarely push on for the second goal which only results in devastation. Has nothing been learned?

  • 16 Ted Bundy // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:58 PM

The Walcott that Ruddy once said is an awful player?

  • 17 bills-son // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:59 PM

Since he won the League Cup Laudrup has won 7 out of 30 Prem games. Thats relegation form.

He’s got plenty to prove as a Prem manager yet.

  • 18 Ciaran // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:59 PM

We won’t be 5th with 4/5 games to go, to be there we would need investment in January.

  • 19 NUFCarter // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:00 PM

Montpellier are also in a lot of financial trouble. But the question is, are we going to capitalise on Montpelliers misfortunes.

  • 20 Ciaran // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:00 PM

Walcott didn’t score today, in fact he was pretty rubbish. Are you even watching the game?

  • 21 jazzyp // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:01 PM

Good luck with you future endeavours-Mackems 9 mile down the road

  • 22 Jail for Ashley // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:02 PM

You’re not as charming as your deranged namesake !

  • 23 WWSBRD // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:04 PM

Theo is the reason for the first goal imo he tore the Spurs defence apart much like he has done all game

I would say he did nothing wrong today

  • 24 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:05 PM

The team lacked passion totally flat – Tiote only player that looked liked he wanted to win
Supporters lacked passion flat – only 30.000 turned up many of them don’t have season tickets – so was there 50% of season ticket holders there.
The whole place flat as if the FA Cup did not matter to NEWCASTLE UNITED.
and many who support NEWCASTLE UNITED.

  • 25 Toon1978 // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:05 PM

Ashley is more concerned with selling his prizes asset Cabaye. Ashley has probably not even heard of Cabella.

  • 26 WWSBRD // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:05 PM

The 14 mill price tag is muck imo they need money and hes the only real star they have come the summer hes off somewhere

I dont think we will get him like but someone will

  • 27 JaxtheMag // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:08 PM

pardew says we ran out of gas, he is clueless.

  • 28 Ciaran // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:09 PM

I don’t rate Walcott. His first touch is awful, decision making is rubbish for a supposed top flight footballer and the only thing he is good at is running.

Gnabry has been much more impressive, and actually, it was Gnabry who was responsible for the 1st goal, perfectly weighted pass into Cazorla.

  • 29 Big Pappa Cissé // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:11 PM

    @ Ciaran

Gnabry looks a talent and is the type of youngster we should be bringing to NUFC .

  • 30 WWSBRD // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:12 PM

Haha not for the first time mate we disagree, Id be over the moon to have Walcott at the toon. I think in the last few seasons he has matured a lot and makes a lot better decisions and his runs when hes playing up front are very good for me

Aye but he would of ran straight into a CB had Theo not dragged him away

  • 31 Jail for Ashley // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:13 PM

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the year before Mashley took over 41K turned up on Saturday January the seventh for a third round tie against Mansfield, that’s what publicly stating the cups aren’t priority.

  • 32 Toon1978 // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:13 PM

“Ran out of gas” OMG Pardew. There might come a time were fans will run out of money and patience by rubbish tactics and an owner who takes everything with very little in return.

  • 33 Jail for Ashley // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:14 PM

Does for the fans enthusiasm !

  • 34 70TWO // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:15 PM

Not in anyway promoting Steve McClaren but taking his statement about the need for patience being true, how is NUFC developing?
Taking the line that Ashley / Pardew are working perfectly towards a desirable aim, we also have to presume that the squad will go through a number of cycles to become convincing challengers. Indicators for these transitions will be the inward/outgoing transfers, League placing and Cup runs. Overall the picture is not very positive and the future projection is difficult to predict, hopefully some positive business will be done this month and our belief will be reinstated.

  • 35 Rotonda heights // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:16 PM

    bills son

You miss the point as well as always slagging off Anita you’re always having a dig at Laudrup.

Relegation form is finishing 16th, NOT winning a trophy and getting in to Europe in your first season as laudrup did.

The point you miss is that even with a recently promoted team laudrup plays great football, pardew doesn’t.

  • 37 Belfast // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:18 PM

Percys record in the fa cup is pathetic like.

Same crap every season. Although it’s usually a lower league team that puts us out.

This year it was just the crisis clubs reserves that put us out.

  • 38 Rotonda heights // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:19 PM

    ”Ran out of gas”

Why the hell didn’t MYM, Haidara, Cisse, Marveaux, Ben Arfa, Jonas etc start over the festive period?

  • 39 Belfast // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:19 PM

I would rather finish 17th and win the fa cup, than finish 5th to be honest

  • 41 jimiley // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:21 PM

we could sign a world 11 and pardew would turn them into a boring defensive mid table team. the problem is the owner and pardew is a symptom of that cancer. he wants mid table meiocrity and to spend as little as possible to achieve that aim. he will pocket all the profits. he may never sell this clb. why should he when he can make 20 or 30 million a year out of the club. i watched the club for 50 years but stopped a year ago. i refuse to put money in the guys pockets. it is pleasing that other fans are becoming of a similar opinion. the guy is just taking the piss out of us, making himself very rich at the same time.

  • 42 Belfast // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:22 PM

The Montpellier president looks like he sleeps on the park bench

  • 43 Rotonda heights // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:22 PM

we could have messi, bale and ronaldo and pardew would still play for a point.

Put pardew in charge of city or chelsea and they’d be out of the top 5, Moyes style.

  • 44 Santon03 // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:24 PM

so… no highlights of the game?

  • 45 Ciaran // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:24 PM

Mainly because Cisse, Jonas and Marveaux are useless? Haidara had been integrated into the team via substitutions, probably to get him up to speed.

Agree that M’biwa should have been in for Colo.

  • 46 Jail for Ashley // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:26 PM

    True American,
You had a very similar dig at me the other week, can you tell me where you have been the last six years and what is the point of you !

  • 47 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:27 PM

Mate I’d take Walcott over any of our attackers any day of the week tbh

  • 48 Ciaran // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:28 PM

Remy is a much more intelligent footballer than Walcott (though technically does not belong to us).

However, just because we have pathetic attacking options does not make Walcott a good player.

  • 49 jimiley // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:28 PM

Some fool reporter in the Times tipped the Toon to win the cup. Hahaha! Fire had not been invented the last time we won anything. The club is cursed with Ashley and cursed with a losing mentality. On the few occasions we have had to win something in the last SIXTY years, we have crumpled at the final hurdle. Even King Kev could not alter the mindset of the club. England will win a world cup before we win something. It is going to be a long wait and I will be under the sod. At least i am not paying Ashley for the privilege. Happy days indeed!!!

  • 50 Jail for Ashley // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:29 PM

What with their French bon homie do you think Wenger might take Obertan off our hands and send the hapless Walcott the other way.

  • 51 mag // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:34 PM

We won’t finish in the top eight under this imposter Pardew the whole setup smacks of third rate chancers from Kinnear and Pardew two out of their league blowhards who have been sacked from every club they’ve tampered with and the worst thing are the supposed football supporters who stick up for Pardew the guy is totally useless at this level.

  • 52 manxpie // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:34 PM

rotunda you miss the point that laudrop took over a team that already played good football and has done since they were in league 1
laudrops spent quite a bit of money and 7 wins in 30 prem games is certainly not a good record is it??
no matter wat football he plays

in pardews 1st full season he got us to 5th with a newly promoted team and got us into europe!!! does that sound familiar? but supposedly that was just luck!

  • 53 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:34 PM

Hmm not sure I’d be that happy, I’d want Walcott + cash tbh ;)

  • 54 bills-son // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:35 PM

    You crease me up.

You say I’m always having a dig at Anita and Laudrup yet you never stop slagging Pardew.

So its ok for you to pass an opinion but not me eh.

  • 55 Santon03 // Jan 4, 2014 at 7:40 PM

I’ve been reading the news about transfers. AC Milan is very active right now, they already signed Honda and Adil Rami, now they are going for Nainggolan and D’Ambrosio. They are willing to sell MAtri, Robinho, Mexes for transfer funds. Also rumors Milan put Balotelli on transfer list and Chelsea bidding for him, Milan looking to bid Dzeko.
