Who Was Our Best Player In Stunning 2-1 Loss To Cardiff?

5:22 pm, Saturday, January 4th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 39 Comments

For the fourth FA Cup tie in the five that Alan Pardew has managed at Newcastle we lost – this time to Cardiff City, and that was after we had gone ahead with a goal from Papiss Cisse after 61 minutes, but we still managed to find a way to lose and we conceded two goals from Noone and Campbell to go down 2-1 – and that was our third defeat in a short six days – and to think we thought we had been doing well.

Ben Arfa in action this afternoon

This is a very bad defeat for Newcastle – make no mistake about that, and for the second game running we have lost to a side that had one win in their last 10 games. :(

And we’ll not win any trophy this season – for the 45th season in a row.

    Pardew’s FA cup record…
    P5 W1 D0 L4

    L Stevenege
    W Blackburn
    L Brighton
    L Brighton
    L Cardiff

All teams we should be beating, Pardew and this club do not treat the cup with the respect it deserves!!

I didn’t watch the game because was not on the TV so I’ll guess… Pardew was MOTM.

Well, at least it now allows us to concentrate on our only long-term goal this year – remaining in the top half of the League.

Thats our seasons mission pretty much accomplished now then.
    Whoopeedooo

Pardew talking about a striker. Well, Pardew is living in LALA land because we still need wingers as well as STRIKERS not A STRIKER. I feel for Pardew. Nobody in their right mind can work with such ltd resources.

wolfshead – come on stick your neck out -what’s your prediction for next weekend.

  • 13 theartfuldodger // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:28 PM

Alrite then, we are out of the cups.
Only the league left then and we dont look strong enough to finish in top 5.

We have been undone during the tight schedule. Few injuries too. ( as expected ?? )

So wats left ? The type of football !! Positive attacking football to watch

  • 14 yorkymag // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:29 PM

Calm down my dears who cares it’s only the cup we are better out of it.
    It’s a irritation

All negative souls will be silenced when we are in the champs league

    Come the toon

Lack of comments post-match is telling. Draining the will to care out the fanbase – hope is the last thing to die. The anaemic crowds match the on pitch performances and general expectation that we’re going nowhere fast.

My advice would be to give football up and concentrate on personal goals, of that which you have control over the outcome and put your energy into those and the happiness will come, for me that means going on another spree and collecting a few severed heads.

  • 16 Himanshu Dhingra // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:30 PM

Ted Bundy I fancy deein a Ted Bundy :)

  • 20 Slank // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:33 PM

Before the game I voted that we would lose.

This was based on our (last 60 years) of almost total failure in the FA and League Cup. I also thought fate was against us with Cardiff having a new manager.

  • 21 geordiemark // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:33 PM

meaning deein a ted bundy on the team

  • 22 toonking // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:33 PM

pardew today has did no better than kevin keegan and sir bobby robson did in their time at Newcastle and the one thing pardew didn’t have was world class forwards such as alan shearer.

getting knocked out the 3rd round is no worst than getting knock out of semi finals because at the end of the day it’s winners who get a trophy not 2nd or 3rd.

the biggest thing about being knocked out this now is what response we get the rest of the league games.

1.pardew again has played weaker players so that tells me that he is challenging for top 5 for sure and will do all he can to win them winnable games.

    2. Ashley can see that our team has so few forwards who are worthy euro challengers that he needs to stop sitting on his arse and start spending money on more attacking players.

3.if the crowd are really as ambitious as we say then our home games should be noisier than they are currently, without waiting for that goal. Instead the crowd should be singing to motivate the players.

    4. if the players really respect the crowd and are so good then they should all be putting full efforts into helping the team every match and just speak up if they want a rest. the only 3 that I would say have been outstanding all season was willo debuchy and tiote.

    very interesting

  • 25 Big Pappa Cissé // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:36 PM

Well Pardew will be pleased we are out of the cup, God forbid we had to play a couple more games to get to the final as our players would be to tired wouldn’t they Alan .

How anyone can simply not care that our last chance of any silverware has gone must be happy with 50 plus years of wining nothing .

Pardew isn’t a winner and will never be, we should got rid and brought in Martinez before Everton snatched him up . I know we have been good lately but that is now 3 defeats in a row to mediocre opposition (bar Arsenal) and it looks like it will 4 after the City game .

Pardews cup record alone should get him the sack . In the last 4 years we have went out the cup to :

    .Stevenage
    .Brighton
    .Brighton
    .Cardiff

Total Joke . Only good I can see coming from our dismal start to 2014 is that it may encourage Ashley to splash the cash .

  • 26 yorkymag // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:37 PM

    Graeme
    Iam a believer

I hate the fa and would not have gone to any games ,just to deprive them of my odd coppers I certainly would not be paying 80 quid for the semi and final
The comp is a joke unfortunately but true

  • 27 NUFCarter // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:37 PM

I agree with the comments saying our season is over. There’s nothing to play for, no cup runs almost definitely avoiding relegation and a european spot let alone a champions league spot is a distant possibility. Between 6th and 10th is where we will finish, nothing special or worth remembering.

Its a shame many fans don’t want European football because we know it will affect our Season negatively. Basically, because of the way the club is managed some fans dread the euro league because of the consequences. That’s not right. fans should dream of getting into the euro league, but this is Newcastle United. Unfortunately, we will never be prepared for a cup run.

  • 30 fatash // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:40 PM

Pardew is a third rate manager with a first rate team, sadly it is beyond him, he hit a lucky formation in November and December but sadly that is now broken. We should be top 5 we should be in both cups we should be giving value for money, young players should be improving with us but they don’t
He got his excuses in before todays match and reverted to type by trying to hold on to a 1-0 lead he is totally unsuitable as a premiership manager any average premier or championship manage would do as well if not better. I have held this view since he came to NUFC what does Ashley see in him?
Never mind the CL lets get the 7 or 8 points we need asap as things can go downhill very quickly for us although I think we will finish wit 53 points at the end of season but that is simply not good enough

  • 31 JaxtheMag // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:41 PM

why cant we get a manager that knows what he is doing.

  • 32 Shola Pure Legend // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:41 PM

Just got back from the game there. Just want to say to all the arm chair fans who sit on here slaggin off Pardew for not playin Ben Arfa, get real and actually go to the games and watch this waste of a shirt play. For a start hes a stone overweight, very selfish and hugely over rated and ineffective so please stop raving about him. Get 10mil for him this window thats the beat business we could do and bring in Tom Ince.

  • 33 Shola Pure Legend // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:47 PM

How many of you on here are real Toon fans. Fatash your talkin complete wet you muppet. Where having a good season and your makin on as though where relegation material. A think youve just never liked Pardew the Toon would be a far better place with out clowns like you, you prick how many games you actually been to at St James.

  • 34 yorkymag // Jan 4, 2014 at 5:49 PM

    Shola pure

    I agree 100per cent

Was not at the game today my personal objection against the Fa
But benny cost us a point against A renal and west brom with his pure greed
    Get rid asap

  • 35 JaxtheMag // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:00 PM

tom ince is not good enough, benny is played out of position.a good manager would sort him out. pardew is clueless.

  • 36 fatash // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:00 PM

    Shola Pure Legend
you are right I have never liked Pardew he is still a third rate manager, we are having a reasonable season but it would have been so much better with a proper manager, was bringing Obertan a decisive winning tactic today we were 1-0 up hardly convincing, I don’t rate Ben Arfa as a team player, he is individually brilliant at times but greedy and does not make the telling passes he should and doesn’t quite know where the goal is, he is better as an impact sub or better yet sold.
I have already said I expect us to finish on 53 points so hardly relegation material but we will never be safe till we get those points in the bag and that is how our management will see it

  • 37 lochinvar // Jan 4, 2014 at 6:53 PM

Pardew plays Ben Arfa square onto the goal and most times he predictably tries to make space by cutting across the edge of the box to attempt a left foot shot on the diagonal. Play him deeper and more central so that he is face onto defences and goal with space to run at and more shot and pass options. He’s actually trying too hard and is too tense – a more athletic approach ( think Jinky Smith ) would produce better results.

  • 38 moonraker // Jan 4, 2014 at 8:13 PM

    Ed
It really is annoying, when we have lost a game we should have won hands down, that you ask ” who was Toon’s best player”.

To me it’s irrelevant and maybe you should ask “who was worst player” !!!

  • 39 fatash // Jan 5, 2014 at 10:18 AM

Shola Pure Legend In answer to your question I have probably been to more games than you in the 57 years first match in 1957 I have supported the town, but no I was not on the match l live 120 miles away now so it is a bit difficult. I do however watch recorded matches and formed my opinion after watching them but sadly not this last match Note I think we have decent team, we have definitely the best supporters, if Ashley appointed decent executives, gave them a proper budget and let them get on with it we would be top 5
Unfortunately thats not the case, we have JFK and Pardew neither were great shakes as managers or players.
Finally I thought this was a forum for all fans to express their views, you do not revert to name calling because a view is different from yours it really does show you up.
