Newcastle Manager Wants New Recruits In January

11:54 pm, Friday, January 10th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 32 Comments

In Alan Pardew’s press conference on Friday, for the important league game against Manchester City on Sunday, the manager was asked about the January transfer market, and he said he would like some new recruits in January – kind of.

Alan Pardew – wants some transfer activity in January

This is what Alan said when asked about this  month’s transfer window:

“I think the group is a good one and we have proved that, but you want to improve,” “Therefore, I think there has to be transfer activity at some stage.”

“I would not want it to go to the summer, but if that is the case, for sure, we have some work to do because we would have to look at two or three players I should think.”

“But we have got ourselves a good base and that is important. We don’t really have to be forceful with what we are doing because we are not in a position of negativity like last year.”

“We haven’t got that pressure on us, but having said that, I still want to bring a player in.” “Last year we had to do it with a team not doing very well, but this year is very different.”

“The squad is strong and that will make it easier. I would say it would be better now, but obviously the problem you have in this window is that clubs are very, very reluctant to sell.”

Newcastle need another striker or two in this month or in the summer, since we potentially will lose both Loic Remy and Shola Ameobi this summer, but for different reasons.

But with Newcastle nicely placed in the league table and in no danger of relegation, we don’t think Mike Ashley will have too much incentive to buy new players in January, unless he can get a really good deal for them.

But it’s very difficult to get good deals for players half-way through the season, and that’s we think this window could be a (another?) blank for Newcastle.

We hope we are wrong on that.

What do you think?

I’m giddy with anticipation to see if anyone can find fault in Pardews words here.

For Pardews position,. I think that is a spot on answer.

Big Pappa…When in doubt, blame Kinnear and grab a drink.

  • 2 jayphoto // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:03 AM

Pardew being quite clever here! Shifting the pressure onto kinnear here a little! Possibly means we’re close to deal or 2 as its more likely pards would make these comments if he was confident some were incoming

there’s no way we will buy anyone in January, we are out of all the cups and there’s no way we can get into Europe, a couple more wins and we are safe in the league so why would Ashley want to spend money on any players, a player on loan is the very best we can hope for then muddle through till the end of the season

  • 4 toon22 // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:13 AM

Would settle for a new owner and manager.

  • 5 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:14 AM

do MA & JFK realize how important it is to get players now rather than this summer?

no doubt Cabaye will go followed by Collo and then Santon And then maybe Debuchy and at that time Remy would of gone back to QPR and getting ready to go to a bigger club and then Shola will be out of contract ( thank god ) also Gosling will be out of contract and maybe Krull will be sold too

    players out when summer approaches

    Remy
    Shola
    Gosling
    Cabaye
    Collo
    Krull
    Debuchy

    + Marv & Jonas

that could be 9 players gone so you work it out!

  • 6 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:14 AM

sh!t i forgot Santon in the list

  • 7 Blofal // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:15 AM

Last winters influx of players showed how long it takes to adapt to the EPL.

If we sign now they should be firing by the start of next season.

If we wait we are going to have teething problems again for the first half of next season

  • 8 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:21 AM

that means 10 players or maybe 11 with Saylor, but seriously though i’m dreading the summer no doubt we will be relaying on reserve players leaving us with

    Cisse
    Campbell
    HBA
    Gouffran
    Anita
    Sissoko
    Obertan
    Abied
    Amilfitano
    Freguson
    Dummet
    Haidara
    Willo
    MYM
    Elliot
    Alnwick
    Tiote
    Sammy
    Street

    doesn’t look good does it?

  • 9 Black and White with an army lol // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:24 AM

relegation for certain if this happens and with dipstick Pardew in charge we will be lucky to get a point from any game

  • 10 shearer and the duchess // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:39 AM

That chap Mr Pardew is at again. He has a silver bloody tongue. He spins better than Mr Blair’s spin doctor, Mr Alistair Campbell.

He’s a bloody rotter that Mr Pardew. He knows jolly well we won’t buy anyone but makes it sound like Me Kinnear tried his bloody damnedest!

Good on him for having some real spunk!

Been a superb evening conversing with you chaps tonight and I look forward to tomorrow. I found some new friends and a great place to hang out.

I bet that rotter Mr Pardew is hanging out of Miss Downey as we speak whilst Mrs Pardew is ironing his Armani suit. What a rotter.
Bloody good manager though. Bloody good.

    Night chaps.

  • 11 lesh // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:41 AM

Ibizatoon @ 1…… You’re right in picking up that Pardew’s very tactfullly making a point here. Now,will Kinnear be able to persuade the Ubergruppenfurher to release the funds to bring in the one that Pardew wants (Messi?) or maybe it’s a ploy to give the two of them credit for having persuaded Ashley to fund two I comers?

Might we expect Cabella and ….. Any suggestions?

  • 12 lesh // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:42 AM

    • correction- having persuaded Ashley to fund two I comers? = incomers

  • 13 Graeme // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:46 AM

Ibiza, greetings mate – “Giddy”!!!! WOW, you lucky man lol

  • 14 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:53 AM

I remember last January they made it sound like January was the window to do deals because some could be leaving on free in the summer – now January is not the window to do deals in!

    …now which is it?

  • 15 Harley // Jan 11, 2014 at 12:54 AM

    Black and white

I’m struggling to see if you’re being sarcastic or not?

  • 16 Ibizatoon // Jan 11, 2014 at 1:01 AM

Lesh…Or maybe it’s just Pardew half saying what he wants but knows he can’t say much :)

    Graeme…Absolutely!

Jesper…But do you really remember last January or did someone remind you? ;)

I think the reason is last year was an odd number and everyone knows it is hard to do deals in January when it’s an even year. Yeah, that’ll do.

  • 17 Crawfordladd17 // Jan 11, 2014 at 1:11 AM

Black and White with an army lol
You are so negative like 90% of Newcastle fans. I think Cabaye and Coloccini will go. Krul, Debuchy and Santon won’t. Also Shola, Jonas, Marveaux, Obertan and Gosling I am not bothered. I think Luuk De Jong, Cabella and possibly one other will join now.
And then 2 or 3 in the summer

  • 18 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 11, 2014 at 1:15 AM

    Back after a few drinks…

    Another obvious article really.
    1. Pardew wants players but won’t go against his boss in public (unlike Mackay)
    2. Ashley’s job as far as signings go is to present the parameters in which we can sign someone
    3. JFK’s job is to negotiate players that Pardew will want that fit into those parameters

The idea is that everyone works together…but of course they are also pulling in different directions. I’m sure Pardew would love a £100M spending spree!

  • 19 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 11, 2014 at 1:20 AM

    Crawford

90% of Newcastle fans are not negative, but we are, on the whole, a passionate bunch.

There is a small percentage who are so passionate that their views oscillate between great negativity and great positivity, there is no middle ground. That group also seems to shout about it a lot. Right now, they are negative, but when we finished 5th, the same bunch were talking up Saylor for England and speculating about the Champions League…

  • 20 Graeme // Jan 11, 2014 at 1:23 AM

    Pardew wouldn’t know what to do with £100 million – it would be the first team in history with a 2 keeper’s, 4 FB’s, 4 CB’s, 4 DM’s.

Attackers? why do we need them, if we dont let the other team score a goal?? A frightening thought.

  • 21 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 11, 2014 at 1:26 AM

    Graeme

So Pardew wasn’t at the helm when we signed Ben Arfa, Cisse, Remy, Goofy etc. forgive me, I must have got confused…

  • 22 lesh // Jan 11, 2014 at 1:29 AM

    Ibiza, nay Zeus @17.

Ordinarily you’d be right in saying that last year was an odd number and everyone knows it is hard to do deals in January when it’s an even year.

There are exceptons. The Montpelier chairman seems like an awkward sort and he might just be the exception to your rule.

Cabella and who else to come in?

This has all the makings of a Kinnear/ Pardew win situation which’ll do them no harm at all.

Well, maybe or then again, maybe not.

  • 23 Graeme // Jan 11, 2014 at 1:34 AM

TDS – and what, exactly has he achieved with the players you mention? He didn’t choose them, Mr Carr did all that; He didn’t buy them – he has no say in buying players.

Being at the helm you say!!! He does what he’s told, when he’s told. Yes, he has the title of ‘manager’ I agree.

  • 24 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 11, 2014 at 1:43 AM

    Graeme

Boring argument. I say 5th and 8th this season, you counter with last season and say 8th is the least he should do with this squad and 5th was down to the players, not him.

Fergie hey…he’s overrated. Just lucky to get a bunch of top youth players at the same time…

  • 25 Ciaran // Jan 11, 2014 at 2:52 AM

    Mark

You’re an arsehole. That is all.

  • 26 ilovetoon8788 // Jan 11, 2014 at 4:01 AM

If avoiding relegation is Ashley number 1 priority, there is no reason to sell anyone nor buy anyone this window.

I doubt we are sigining anyone though.

  • 27 TorqToon // Jan 11, 2014 at 6:39 AM

I’d take Cabella and Dekoke this window.

  • 28 lesh // Jan 11, 2014 at 6:51 AM

shearer and the duchess @ 10
Not only is Pardew a Ritter, he’s a cad and a bounder sir!

Phew, I feel so much better now I’ve got that off my chest.

  • 29 jackostoon // Jan 11, 2014 at 7:15 AM

    Morning folks,
Torq, please excuse my ignorance, but I had never heard of either up until a few days ago, in your opinion, and it’s only your opinion, are they any good.

  • 30 SeanNufc87 // Jan 11, 2014 at 7:16 AM

    Long time no see all!

Had to leave as I couldn’t stand the pathetic negativity that had became 9/10ths of the blog.

Scrolling up though, I see pointless presumptuous posts pandering to people, pontificating in the hope Newcastle do poorly so they can point and laugh saying “I told you so!” … alliteration, om nom nom.

I think we may get remy and A young player, more than likely at the cost of oba, gosling and amalfitano.

    Graeme.

I suppose he didn’t buy or any influence in arfa, cisse, cabs or debuchy right?

But he went out and drove obertan, gosling, amalfitano, marvaux etc, back to the club himself?

No, no, no, it wouldn’t do to blame carr for ANY bad player, much like it wouldn’t do to put praise on pardew for anything.

  • 31 jasper // Jan 11, 2014 at 7:25 AM

    Good morning Torq,
Perked me up to see that you’re still contributing. Please don’t let the egoist put you off.
As you say one for the present Cabella) and one for the future (Dekoke) would be good.
As for those who say that we should be splashing out perhaps they should listen to what Moyes has to say. Players of the necessary quality are just not available at present.
Improvement of the squad means signing players better than we have now. So where is the strong centre forward to replace Shola? Gomis seems to be all that is available. Is he really going to boost the team? Similarly things look thin so far as a dominant CF goes.
So it would be wrong to condemn the management if signings are few this window. If we’d really can’t find the players to give us a shot at CL – which seems to be the case – it may be better to keep our hands in our pockets until the summer.

    Morning chaps.
Great to back hanging out with you’s.
I wonder what time that rotter Mr Pardew stopped hanging out of Miss Downey last night.
I’ve a good mind to phone up Mrs Pardew and spill the beans.
