In Alan Pardew’s press conference on Friday, for the important league game against Manchester City on Sunday, the manager was asked about the January transfer market, and he said he would like some new recruits in January – kind of.
Alan Pardew – wants some transfer activity in January
This is what Alan said when asked about this month’s transfer window:
“I think the group is a good one and we have proved that, but you want to improve,” “Therefore, I think there has to be transfer activity at some stage.”
“I would not want it to go to the summer, but if that is the case, for sure, we have some work to do because we would have to look at two or three players I should think.”
“But we have got ourselves a good base and that is important. We don’t really have to be forceful with what we are doing because we are not in a position of negativity like last year.”
“We haven’t got that pressure on us, but having said that, I still want to bring a player in.” “Last year we had to do it with a team not doing very well, but this year is very different.”
“The squad is strong and that will make it easier. I would say it would be better now, but obviously the problem you have in this window is that clubs are very, very reluctant to sell.”
Newcastle need another striker or two in this month or in the summer, since we potentially will lose both Loic Remy and Shola Ameobi this summer, but for different reasons.
But with Newcastle nicely placed in the league table and in no danger of relegation, we don’t think Mike Ashley will have too much incentive to buy new players in January, unless he can get a really good deal for them.
But it’s very difficult to get good deals for players half-way through the season, and that’s we think this window could be a (another?) blank for Newcastle.
We hope we are wrong on that.
