Pardew Expects Players In During Last Week Of January

After Newcastle had lost 2-1 to Reading at St. James’ Park on 19th January last year, things were at a really low point for the club and the fans, and Newcastle were 5th bottom and just 2 points above the drop zone.

Moussa Sissoko – scored 3 goals in first two games for Newcastle

And with Newcastle being eliminated by Brighton in the 3rd round of the FA Cup we had the next weekend off, and by the time we played at Aston Villa on January 29th – a midweek game – we had brought in another four Frenchman to the club.

And lo and behold we won that game 2-1, and four days later we beat Chelsea at home 3-2 – in that amazing game, when Newcastle came surging back from 2-1 down late in the game, with two goals from newly-arrived Moussa Sissoko to get another valuable 3 points.

And we just survived and stayed in the Premier League – even though it was still in 5th bottom place – where we were after the Reading defeat.

There is much less pressure on Newcastle this January, but Alan Pardew still wants new players in during the January window to allow them to acclimatize to the Premier League, much like the five Frenchmen did last year, and they are much better this season because of that.

This is what Alan Pardew has told the local press:

“Ideally for a manager, I’d say it would be better to sign players now, but obviously the problem you have in this window is that clubs are very, very reluctant to sell.” “That is the big problem.”

“Everyone is feeling, ‘If we do that, are we able to replace?’ So you get a lot of miscommunication from other clubs. ‘Yes’, then ‘No’, then ‘Yes we are back on’, then ‘No’ again.”

“This happens all the way, and not just for us, but for all the clubs until the last week or so. It has been very quiet so far, not just for Newcastle, but right across the Premier League. But I do think there will be action in the last week.”

Last January it was late in the transfer window when we got the players in, and work had already been done on some of the transfers, and Mathieu Debuchy had joined in early January.

So it’s possible Newcastle can still get players in this month, but it seems they will come late in the transfer window, if they come at all.

We hope Joe Kinnear can make his first permanent signing before February rolls around, because if he doesn’t he will come under severe criticism again from some Newcastle fans.

His job is to bring good players into the club.

Lee Marshall does a lot of good work in the community. He frequently has accompanied toon players on visits to children in care. Only last month he organised and accompanied toon players on a lengthy visit to the Great North Children’s Hospital.

I have always found it hard to understand the thought process of those who send offensive messages. Twitter didn’t invent rude, offensive and stupid thoughts and comments. It does though frequently highlight and expose those lacking emotional intelligence and help me to appreciate how they think even though the discovery is not very edifying.

Yeah it happens to most clubs until the last week or so….but then most clubs bring players in wheras dear old Mike battens down the media hatches (and his purse strings) and we’re all left disappointed and annoyed at yet another opportunity missed!

Disappointed, annoyed…..but not surprised by any means! Excitement and entertainment is a non-starter these days at our club!

And JFK’S job isn’t to bring in players Ed. (Although Joe still probably thinks thats his job as well)

It’s simply to deflect (some) of the blame from Ashley. Nothing more than that.
