Santon Fit – Starts Against Manchester City

nufc emblemman city

Davide Santon is fit, having recovered from his slight thigh strain, and he starts at right back in today’s tough game against Manchester City.

The Italian International was the only fitness doubt for today’s game but he starts, with Yanga-Mbiwa in at left back and local lad Steven Taylor gets another start in central defense, this time partnering Mike Williamson.

Tim Krul returns to goal after recovering form the shoulder injury he picked up at West Brom, and Yohan Cabaye also starts after missing last weeks’ FA Cup tie defeat to Cardiff City.

And Dan Gosling is on the bench with Shola Ameobi omitted from the squad, but his brother Sammy is a sub, along with Ben Arfa and Papiss Cisse, who had a £9M bid from a Qatar club rejected by Newcastle during the week.

For Manchester City former Newcastle winger James Milner is on the bench.

Teams:

Newcastle: Krul; Santon, S.Taylor, Williamson, Yanga-Mbiwa; Anita, Tiote (c), Cabaye; Sissoko, Remy, Gouffran
Subs:
Elliot, Haidara, Gosling, Marveaux, Sammy Ameobi, Ben Arfa, Cisse

Manchester City (4-3-1-2): Joe Hart; Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis, Vincent Kompany (c), Aleksandar Kolarov; Samir Nasri, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure; David Silva; Alvaro Negredo, Edin Dzeko
Subs: Costel Pantilimon, Micah Richards, Gael Clichy, Joleon Lescott, James Milner, Javi Garcia, Jesus Navas

Referee: Mike Jones (Cheshire)

Square pegs in round holes at the back like.
Centre back playing full back, when there’s a fullback sitting on the bench.

    Strange…..

Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany (C), Demichelis, Kolarov, Nasri, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, Silva, Negredo, Dzeko

This Man City team will be vulnerable at set pieces.

Good team, although I would’ve had Haidara instead of Taylor.

Can’t take any credit for this but it was on twitter:
Dont sell Cisse, PapissCisse, i just dont think you understand. For if you sell Cisse, Papiss Cisse, we’ll only have Shola on our hands

Mbiwa at right back seems like a good call to me, there is no way Santon should be playing there.

Anita could be a good shackle for Silva, if shackling Silva is even possible… we can only do our best to stop him.

well at least this game will be the final nail in saylors coffin and he’ll be off to Norwich or QPR by the end of the month after embarrassing himself again today.

saylor is well out of his depth at this level…mbiwa should be in the middle with Williamson and Hiadara at left back.

    IMO

    Sparky

Bills backs what he states with facts. Pardew may not be a world beater but our owner is. It will be no coincidence that we will be competing for champions league within the next 5 years with or with out Pards.

Taylor’s terrible, but maybe just maybe he’ll have one of those games where he looks good by diving into last ditch tackles and making brave blocks and beating his chest like a warrior.

why play MYM at left back and Santon right back??????

    Makes no sense at all.

If Navas was playinfm i could kinda understand it but Pellegrini was never gonna drop Nasri or Silva

As somewhere said earlier, square pegs in round holes. Why over complicate it Pards

As a lot of the more discerning suggested before last weekend both Krul and Cabaye have recovered from their “injuries” – throwing some doubt that last weekends selection was the best.
Whilst I hope for a win -I just cannot see it -based on form -City to me appear to be getting stronger -and they score for fun. I’m therefore reluctantly going to suggest a walloping -4-0 to City. I just cannot see our defence coping with their forwards.

Why all the stick for Taylor he always gives 100% and yes he may not be the best but as fans we should back the players not slate them especially before a ball has been kicked today I hope he proves everyone wrong and has a MOTM performance today

Has it actually been confirmed Yanga Mbiwa’s starting at left back or it is just Ed presenting his guesses as fact?
There’s a big difference between this
    Santon….Taylor…Williamson…Yanga (doomed to fail)
    and this
    Saylor….Yanga…Williamson…Santon (may stand a chance)

Its ok chaps, the bookies have us at 4/1 while the draw is 14/5. Shitty are way out at 4/6 – what would they know eh!! lol. A nailed on draw then lol.

I guess they put those prices out before they saw Saylor at CB and Mbiwa at FB – I hope they change that once they are on the pitch

My back four would have been :

    –Santon——-Willo——-M’biwa——-Haidara–

Starting Taylor against the most dangerous team in the league is stupid IMO .

Same midfield and forward line every week makes us predictable. Only thing that should be kept the same every week is defence for stability. MYM playing left back is 2 keep up pace with nasri, which is not a bad tactic. Haidara wouldn’t be able 2 handle him. Santon and Willo are needed fair enough. My biggest worry apart from bein to predictable goin forward is Steven Taylor. He sells himself to often, and he’s not good enough. He’s got a massive challenge 2 prove himself.

    Santon
Taylor is a right sided CB you can’t play him next to willo it’s not a case of yeah he’s a CB, there specialised positions you can’t have a partnership of 2 CB’s who play the same position it just doesn’t work
