Davide Santon is fit, having recovered from his slight thigh strain, and he starts at right back in today’s tough game against Manchester City.
The Italian International was the only fitness doubt for today’s game but he starts, with Yanga-Mbiwa in at left back and local lad Steven Taylor gets another start in central defense, this time partnering Mike Williamson.
Tim Krul returns to goal after recovering form the shoulder injury he picked up at West Brom, and Yohan Cabaye also starts after missing last weeks’ FA Cup tie defeat to Cardiff City.
And Dan Gosling is on the bench with Shola Ameobi omitted from the squad, but his brother Sammy is a sub, along with Ben Arfa and Papiss Cisse, who had a £9M bid from a Qatar club rejected by Newcastle during the week.
For Manchester City former Newcastle winger James Milner is on the bench.
Teams:
Newcastle: Krul; Santon, S.Taylor, Williamson, Yanga-Mbiwa; Anita, Tiote (c), Cabaye; Sissoko, Remy, Gouffran
Subs: Elliot, Haidara, Gosling, Marveaux, Sammy Ameobi, Ben Arfa, Cisse
Manchester City (4-3-1-2): Joe Hart; Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis, Vincent Kompany (c), Aleksandar Kolarov; Samir Nasri, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure; David Silva; Alvaro Negredo, Edin Dzeko
Subs: Costel Pantilimon, Micah Richards, Gael Clichy, Joleon Lescott, James Milner, Javi Garcia, Jesus Navas
Referee: Mike Jones (Cheshire)

Comment #441Just Newcastle united, they never deserve anything should be bought by a rich billionaire, more attractive than Man city, what did they have? Nothing, we have a bigger fan base and bigger stadium.

Comment #442The best team lost. They usually do when they play against 13 men.

Comment #443Anyone who comes out with any negative views after today’s match, should take a running jump off the Tyne Bridge. We’ve played with style, passion and grit today against the richest club in the world who are full of world class players.
We were desperately unlucky with Tiote’s goal and also very unlucky with their 2nd goal.
We got stuffed by Spurs and won, today we matched probably the best team in the PL and have lost.
Lots to be proud of after today. Hopefully we can make a tweak or two to the squad this window and ensure we finish in the top 8 and then push on next season.
Excellent game.

Comment #444Very pleased with the performance, but absolutely gutted that the luck was on citys side. Anita, Tiote and Williamon played very well
too many sh1t refs in this league. we should be looking in the lower leagues for refs and swap them with the likes of Howard Webb, Mike Jones and Paul Mariner to name a few

You see people cheating every week like players diving and stuff they need to sort this sh*t out.
And I hope nasri is out for the season hope his leg is snapped.

Comment #448Games like this are why you shouldnt be dropping the ball vs. West Brom, Cardiff and Arsenal at the peak of your form.

Comment #449Cisse was unheard of when he came on, offers no presence at all and that’s a worry. Something we have to address in this transfer window.
Let’s now hope Stoke poke Liverfool on the ass and makes the lose points and does us a favour.

Comment #450If we would play like that most of the time (and we can play like that), we would be up there with the rest.
On the other hand, if all chances were goals, Man C would have won 6-2 or 7-3, something like that.

Comment #451Before the Pardew bashers start, Talk Sport saying it was a tremendous game, Toon can it with the best, were equal to citeh, went toe-to-toe with them, the officials were, well perhaps out of their depth.
Now let’s see what the neggers have to sat;

Sorry lads but Ben Arfa gives us far far too little,no end product far too often
———————————-
Who gives you more end product in 10 mins as a sub?
He does most of the time more in attack in 10 mins than the whole team in a game.
What end product did Cabaye, Tiote, Goofy, Sissoko, Remy etc gave you today? Some shots on target? Big woop.

Comment #459We played decent in the midfield and had some good exchanges but we also squandered alot of chances and carelessly gave away possession when we could have really mounted some pressure on City.
Yanga was probably lucky to not get a red.

Comment #461The problem with us is we play top stuff today and really give 100% and we usually end up looking not bothered against teams we should beat.
If we play like we did today against the Hammers,Norwich and the unwashed then all the points will be ours

Comment #464Yeah I feel HBA should start the next match. He is being frozen out of the team somehow. A tad unfair as in his cameos he does offer us another dimension and does enough to warrant a start.

First of all, thank you for the lovely nickname.
Tiote scored a great goal. how many of those he scores in all the minutes he gets? Hatem plays what, 5-10 times less than him, and he has more goals and assists. No comparison.

Comment #469The team worked hard, yes, but did any one player really stand out? Sissoko had moments, Cabaye, Tiote and Anita too, but everyone was unremarkable today.
We can’t move up the pitch as a unit. what was the last time we say a ball get put across goal from the byline with more than one player attacking? hell, when has it happened at all?
They deserve plaudits for working hard today, that’s it. But they are professional footballers. They still get paid when they do a sh** job. I expect so much more.
Moving on to Pardew, way to correct the mistake at LB 82 minutes into the match. And was it really necessary to bring Cisse on? He’s finished. The sooner he’s gone the better it is for everyone. Waste of a body. Waste of a minute him entering the field. Waste of someone who stood better chance at contributing in Anita.
Man of the Match:
The fans. they changed the dynamic of the match after the disallowed goal.

Comment #471before you neggers and pardew bashers start with you comments take some time to think about this FACT
our loss today was fully down to that stupid offside decision by the ref because fromk that minute onwards our team was so angered and that means mistakes are more likely.
also when sky sports decide to give tiote the MOTM when he is part of the loosing team that says it all we were the better team and city just sat back the minute they scored a goal.
