tsunki from the kick off of the 2nd half they were more attacking and used there wings more which created much more chances well before carroll came on!

Why do people say Shola has done well this season. All he has been is part of a team that has reasonably well 13Months since last goal

  • 3 theartfuldodger // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:26 PM

We could have easily been 3-2 down. The chances for Carroll and Cole were easier than those for remy and sissoko.

  • 4 toonking // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:29 PM

tsunki or should I say HBA addict

marvo last season started less games than HBA.

a question I want to ask you is how the F[_] CK can he get more assist than HBA when HBA started more games than marvo.

also what football player says he want to win the balloon dor yet shows no sign at all at getting into the starting team.

Great win should have been out of reach in the first half that goal just before HT was a real blow ! Norwich next and my first Toon away game as I’m only an hour away so looking forward to that a few beers and 3 points us on the menu

  • 6 ONLINE GUY // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:31 PM

Looks like Remy Cabella is on his way here next week

  • 7 Tsunki // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:31 PM

Manxpie, they did, but apart from Santon being all over the place (how he wasn’t subbed earlier I don’t know) it was still a game of 50/50. They wasted two good chances, but the real problems came when Carroll came on and every ball was banged up to the box from then on, it was only at that point I thought we would be doing well to draw.

  • 8 manxpie // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:31 PM

btw no point in saying anything to catchy because he’s pissed that we’ve won!!
hopefully we’ll go on a good run and you’ll see him disappear until our next loss!

  • 9 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:31 PM

    Cabs for me

What’s your point? We could of been 4 up by half time footballs about taking your chances they didn’t just as we didn’t

  • 10 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:34 PM

Toonking…Anita didn’t play well either – non of the subs did but that is not really their fault!

  • 11 stan anderson // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:35 PM

Well earned win today, excellent 1st half show, but we did,nt kill it off.
Shola should not be in contention ever for the team. Why does Pardew keep on using a donkey like he is.
Shows his total lack of abillity to us all.
Must be happy with a win in London AGAIN eh,

Football isn’t for you. Get another hobby you’re better at analysing.

  • 13 toonking // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:36 PM

the result itself could not have come at a better time because with next week being the FA cup we will not have a match so it is probably going to be a very long fortnight with nothing to talk about except transfers.

had we lost this match I dread to think how much squabbling their would be on this blog.

  • 14 stan anderson // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:36 PM

Carlton Cole is better than Strolla.

  • 15 manxpie // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:37 PM

yeah i see wat ya saying tsunki i just thought they were on the front foot straight from the kickoff (2nd half) and i also agree about the 1st sub should have been santon they was raping him down that side
and i seriously worried when caroll came on but over all with all things considered we deserved that win but could’ve n should’ve made it much easier

  • 16 JP...from The Rock // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:37 PM

Great win although nerve wracking towards the end. That scrappy and lucky goal they scored just before half-time gave them a life line and we should have scored 2 more before then that we missed. Luckily they missed two sitters also and then Cabaye with a beautiful free kick secured the three points for us in style. Good game although tense.

I can’t wait to see if Cabella will join us immanently, I wish, him and Cabaye in the team will be a handful for opposing defenders, similar names too :)

  • 17 Tsunki // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:38 PM

Toonking – no need to be obnoxious mate, I am not as far as I know a HBA addict, but I do detest when a player is singled out for extended criticism because he is a sub, like Obertan, Williamson, Saylor and a few others from time to time. It’s easy to watch a player and catalogue all his mistakes, but in this case, taking into account the function and tactical placement of the player in question, he didn’t do anything other than attempt to create problems for their defence, and if possible score, assist or create a goal opportunity. Today, he cleverly won a FK Which sewed up the game. Now, what damage did he do?

  • 18 JP...from The Rock // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:38 PM

Stan Anderson – ANYONE IS BETTER THAN STROLLA! Even Carlton Cole, even Shefti Kuqi! lol sad but true, we must get rid ASAP!

  • 19 WilliamsonsLeftPeg // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:39 PM

sorry them being at home typo, theres a couple but i had to get that of my chest….lets be supporters!!!!

  • 20 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:39 PM

First five minutes shite couldn’t get near the ball
rest of half absolute brilliant until 44th minute- best football I’ve seen for along time until Bollock Heed Taylor decided to be a clever dick and dribble out of the box – should of taken the sting out of the game by just passing back to Krul -
Let them back in the game – second half much of a much ness
MOM Cabaye followed by Anita and Williamson again.
See England boss was there = was he watching Williamson

  • 21 theartfuldodger // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:40 PM

Im simply pointing out that we could have been pegged back very easily. Had we lost people would be moaning their hearts out.

When we loose we point out small mistakes but when we win we forget about big big misses and strokes of luck.

Having said that we did very well first half mainly because of cabayes passes and goals.

  • 22 toonking // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:41 PM

while lots of people will think that bringing on dummett or hadaira for santon is just a defensive tactic, I’m thinking myself is that santon is a big weakness for our defence at the minute.

  • 23 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:41 PM

TB…I choose to assume you mean analyze!

…and thank you for the kind words

  • 24 NUFC FOR SALE // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:42 PM

Can’t wait for Cabrella to sign………maybe then some of these blind HBA fans will realise what a good player looks like.

I don’t even know why we debate it…..HBA record speaks for itself….simply not good enough….a one trick show pony

  • 25 Toon1978 // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:42 PM

I really hope for the sake of NUFC that IF Cabella comes in, it doesnt mean Cabs is on his way out. Lots of talk about Cab out Cabella in.

  • 26 JP...from The Rock // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:43 PM

Ben Arfa did nothing wrong when he came on, he wasn’t greedy as some were calling him a few days back. Played it safe, nearly scored and won us that deciding free kick.

PS. Strolla do us all a huge favour and get the hell out of our club ASAP!

  • 27 jordijohnty // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:43 PM

If fat sam and his media luvvies, think that having carroll back and hoofing the ball into the area is going to keep them up…well

  • 28 manxpie // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:43 PM

jesper “none of the subs played well”

how about dummets 2 brilliant interceptions
he played very well in my eyes and stopped alot of attacks that were comming from that side that santon wasn’t

plus amieobi won and controlled alot of balls that came to him
so can’t see how they didn’t play well!??

  • 29 BRABOT // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:43 PM

If it is Cabela, itis not bad, this Young player play
    like HBA,best defensive .
He is born in Ajaccio ,Corsica, like Napoleon Bonaparte . !

  • 30 keeganjr // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:44 PM

We could easily been up 4-5 nil in the 1th half also.. we where fantastic.. but west ham should have scored 2 i the second.. 2 sitters missed. bring in cabella and 2 strikers and a cb and happy new year.. HWTL TOON TOON

  • 31 BandB // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:44 PM

I agree with all of that. We are beginning to open up teams through the middle, which is something we didn’t seem to do before. Anita helps with that, I think, but he doesn’t seem to be much-fancied either.
We have, in Debuchy, a full-back for whom two defensive midfielders should be sufficient cover. The left-back situation isn’t quite the same. We have Sissoko, Cabaye, Tiote, and Anita who can all play as holding midfielders. Look at the way Citeh set up. Most of their midfielders are ball-players. We should have room for ONE with licence to attack. I’d rather Santon did his job, and the wide midfielder did his, instead of having two players cutting inside into dead-ends and losing the ball.

  • 32 JP...from The Rock // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:45 PM

NUFC FOR SALE – Ben Arfa a one trick pony?? lolol he has more tricks up his sleeve than Dynamo magician impossible! By fay our most gifted player, then comes Cabaye a long way away in second.

  • 33 Toon1978 // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:46 PM

No smoke without fire so this Cabella talk seems to have a ring of truth to it. Normally Nufc have come out and denied it by now OR the players club. Nothing as yet has been denied. Fingers crossed.

  • 34 Tsunki // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:46 PM

And on the other side of the coin, I have been critical of a blog darling who has been a regular starter for a very long time – Santon. Notice how he is being subbed of late more? Unless he is replaced by Haidara or the less industrious but more solidly dependable Dummet soon, Gouffran will fade like Jonas.

  • 35 Bambams // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:47 PM

I fully expected Cabaye to get mom but Tiote also had a cracking game. Brilliant first half, second was ugly.

It would be nice to see us reinforce now with a fleet footed footballer (midfielder ) and a pacey 6ft plus striker…..

I scratch my head whenever Shola comes on these days !

  • 36 Ted Bundy // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:57 PM

As I’m a Brit, commenting on a British clubs website, where the majority of contributors are British, I think I’ll stick to the British spelling, thanks. Don’t take etymology up as your new past-time.

Maybe something like Duplo Lego would be more your level.

  • 37 BandB // Jan 18, 2014 at 5:57 PM

The whole team is twisted out of shape to accommodate Santon and his predictable forays upfield and his leisurely jogs back. Gouffran was been a good signing. But Remy on the left and Ben Arfa on the right of a proper striker would get us goals. IF we sort out the striker. And Santon.

  • 38 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 18, 2014 at 6:00 PM

Manx…they played at the same level as rest (except for Cabaye) more or less and that goes for Benny as well.

…not easy being a sub in such a game. – feel for them honestly!
