Confusing Reports On Cabaye And Cabella – What’s The Truth?

4:28 pm, Monday, January 20th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 186 Comments

There have been a number of reports coming out of France since Saturday on Yohan Cabaye possibly being on his way to Paris Saint-Germain,  and Montpellier’s Remy Cabella coming to Newcastle, and both deals will be completed in January – at least according to the reports.

remy cabella

Remy Cabella – Montpellier want to keep him until the summer

We’ve tracked down some of these reports – specifically in L’Equipe and lesport10.com, and this is what we’ve been able to find out.

Montpellier would like to keep their midfielder  Remy Cabella until the summer, so he could help them escape relegation, although after their great 2-0 win at Sochaux on Saturday, where Remy played for 80 minutes, they are now 5th bottom of the French league , and Sochaux are second bottom now and 10 points behind Montpellier.

The reports suggest that if Montpellier get a huge bid from a club for Cabella this month, and the fee they want is said the be €17M which translates to around £14M, then they would sell this month.

And £14M  is the fee Montpellier wanted for Cabella, when Manchester United were interested in the player last summer.

The news today is that Joe Kinnear will be trying to make a deal for Cabella, and is meeting with Montpelier officials.

As far as Cabaye is concerned, the reports in France are suggesting that Cabaye is just the classy and creative player that PSG want – and need – and they suggest PSG are readying a huge bid for the player – said to be something over £21M.

If that does happen,we think Mike Ashley will sell, although the owner may try to squeeze more money out of PSG – like he did when Liverpool came a calling for Andy Carroll, and initially bid £30M for the Gateshead born striker, and Ashley was able to get that fee up to £35M and paid out in cool cash by Liverpool.

Since Yohan is Mike Ashley’s favorite player, we wouldn’t be surprised if he tries to make another stellar deal – maybe for as much as £25M, if Cabaye is to leave the club

Given that we only paid just over £4M for Yohan, that’s a huge profit in 30 months – but most fans are only interested in who would come in and replace Cabaye – since we want to see Newcastle become a great side again.

Yes – I’m like a broken record on that one – but some of us are running out of time to see Newcastle in the top four again.

And we don’t think the two deals are related,  since Cabella would not be a direct replacement for Cabaye – and Newcastle would need to bring in another player if Cabaye was to leave – but we’d be hard pressed to get anybody in other than Cabella in January.

Bottom line seems to be that Newcastle will get Cabella if they bid big money – around £14M – and Cabaye will go to PSG, but only if Newcastle receive a bid something north of £20M for the French International.

Comments welcome.

    Hey guys!

Seems we are linked with more than a few players again with Ligue 1 again. Excluding Cabella we are interested in Zouma, Wagué, Djordjevic, Deaux. Now I dont know about Zouma as it seems it will not be possible when the likes of Chelsea are trying a get a deal in, but maybe we could offer him a guranteed bench place or the replacement for Coloccini?

These do look like possible recruits, as our scouts been out abroad, most importantly being Graham Carr, and its from a reliable source Julien Laurens reputable French journalist.

Looking to hear back from you lads!

  • 2 Dannyo // Jan 20, 2014 at 4:33 PM

    It’s really not.
Canal+ reported a €26M bid last night, which since has been denied by every other media outlet out there.
Also, both Sky and The Journal claims the deals on Cabaye & Cabella are not dependant on each other.

As for Cabella, his father is an agent. Let’s just let that sink in.
When you’ve let it do that, Montepellier has always denied everything and anything. Up to the day before MYM arrived at NUFC.

    I don’t think I’m twisting stats

I think that Gus has cam in and got them organised and playing football
please remember that he came into a team bottom of the league , with no confidence, he has had to pick them up and get them believing ,

couple that with the fact his team is crap, not many of them are top half players let alone prem std

    tads

he is new to management , he took a lower league team and did wonders with them, beating us in the prem 2 times,

it’s not twisting stats , stating facts is what it is

I can’t see Ashley letting Cabs go for anything less than £25 million, the same that i cannot see him buying Cabella for any more than £10 million.

I dont want to see Cabs go, he has been brilliant but the lad deserves CL and with Anita we do have some cover for CM. I am not saying anita is as good as Cabs but he is a great player himself. IMO

I read somewhere that we have accepted a bid from PSG for Cabaye, however this is the third transfer window in a row where we have allegedly accepted a bid from them for him, I think we should run a sweep for the summer for the first reported date where we reportedly accept a bid for him, I will go for July 9th.

Sad thing is ..IF HBA had better decision skills lad would be right up there…rather frustrating to watch and not consistent are his undoing…

To me he looks like he has lost a bit of pace, but I still like him… Think Pardew never really knows how to manage him.

I am just glad to see the back of Jonas and we should be back of Shola too.

Still pray we get Cabella, great little player, pace, trickery, he would cause havok.

Adding to my previous post, we have been interested in Kurt Zouma for a while. He’s chance of getting 1st team here is more then the likes of Chelsea and rotting away in the reserve league. Kevin De Bruyne was sold to Wolfsburg, they sold matic and then spend more money to bring him back. The likes of Josh Mceachran not reaching his potential, and they have 24 players out on loan! that’s whole 2 teams!!

    Catchy,
There’s no denying that a lot of my posts are to moan about Ashley, after all my username suggests I would like to see him eating porridge for crimes against humanity, but not every single post is about him, I think your obsession with Pardew is unhealthy and can’t be doing you any good.

Regarding HBA going to PSG I think I can remember reading somewhere that he had a falling out with Lauren Blanc. I think it may have been in the national side if thats the case he wont be going to PSG.

  • 14 wynsleap // Jan 20, 2014 at 4:47 PM

Cabaye out – Cabella and De Jong in..
Two years time Cabella goes for a big fee and two more players come in.
Is this the ‘two players in each year’ that Kinnear is talking about? Obviously the usual no expenditure which is right up Ashley’s street (he only makes money from the club but doesn’t spend it) and of course no real ambition either.

  • 15 TurkishFan101 // Jan 20, 2014 at 4:47 PM

    News regarding the Cabella deal;

“Montpellier Coach Rolland Courbis Wants Newcastle To Agree To Hatem Ben Arfa Loan”

lol, no way we be loaning a player like Ben Arfa, especially after the comments he said about our club.

  • 23 TurkishFan101 // Jan 20, 2014 at 4:56 PM

    gorgonzola

They dont even need that many players, they just buy young prospects so no one else does, then waste their potential. Chelsea must of ruined allot of players over the years. They just spend, spend and spend. Look where Lucas Piazon is (he is out on loan), Marco van Ginkel (on the stands) Andre Schurrle ( on the stands) ,Oril Romeu (loan), Nathaniel Chalaboah (loan + another 22 players out on loan.

Unbelievable, this gives no chance for teams like us at all, even though we got Graham Carr, he spots them first and since Mike Ashley wont bring his wallet out, other teams look at his scout report and jump on the bandwagon to get them!!

  • 24 Spoof // Jan 20, 2014 at 4:57 PM

Has anyone seen much of Cabella, I haven’t, but from the limited knowledge I have I get the impression that just like Ben Arfa, he is a match maverick with loads of tricks, but just like Ben Arfa he can be a bit lazy, if thats the case then it’s like for like and as with Hatem Remy will not get a game until his work-rate improves, which may never happen.

  • 25 Phatoon // Jan 20, 2014 at 4:58 PM

He’s on loan at Vitesse til the end of the season. He will then be into his last contract year with Chelsea.

If someone point blank refuses tho agree to differ, you might as well ignore them. Most of us can accept that people have different opinions to each other. It is the way of the world. It becomes so annoying when you get that one person who is CONSTANTLY battering on about the same thing over and over and over, using different sets of loaded stats to psudo-prove their point. Catchy is one of these people. I have come to the conclusion that he either over self opinionated and spiteful, or just PIG IGNORANT.

  • 27 Phatoon // Jan 20, 2014 at 4:59 PM

Mate for the hundredth time the lad is nothing like HBA
Much higher work rate, likes to drop deep has a great range of passing

    Catchy
No it’s not stating facts at all, for example you say he done wonders with a lower league team where as Brighton fans say he spent fortunes and stalled with squad progression and failed to get them promoted despite hyping himself up, he left and the fans and players were more than happy to see him go
The Mackems have a huge squad and have spent heavily, the players are bedding in and he has some of his senior players back

Like i said between him and Pardew there is less than a 1% career win rate taking into account he has less than 3 months at top flight whilst Pardew has 3 years what your saying isn’t fact at all it’s opinion

Deals are only related in the fact that we’ll only buy once Fat Ash knows he’ll will get cash for Cabaye in summer although if PSG offer 30 mil now he’ll order JFK to take it now
Cabaye will not be replaced until summer, we’re generally assurred of a top ten finish bar an almighty collapse and Ash is happy with that

  • 42 sparky55 // Jan 20, 2014 at 5:17 PM

Catchy’s understandable loathing and hatred of Pardew is both correct and founded on facts rather than opinion…it’s also provides balance as there seem to be a few too many sheep out there who think Pardew’s doing a great job despite losing to those Premiership giants Cardiff and West Brom and Hull and sunderland and Swansea, whilst only drawing with West Ham at home and having one shot on goal.

He’s a very poor manager and is the luckiest manager in the Premiership because who else in the premiership with such a poor managerial record is in charge of team so full of talent. He’s lucky because he doest deserve the gig and he’s lucky because he has a team who despite the tactics he forces upon them they somehow constantly get him and his dreadfully negative tactics out of trouble simply because the players are so good and hide how bad he actually is.

so good on you catchy…you might not put your point out there as well as you could sometimes but keep on putting them out there because 9 times out of ten you’re bang on the money

  • 43 Markaccus // Jan 20, 2014 at 5:19 PM

spoof — true-true. I think we have all learned our lesson where Ashley is involved, Kinnear may say something 1 minute , have a few sherbets tonight , and completely forget what he said tomorrow regarding cabs staying. if not this window , he will be gone summer .

  • 45 weg // Jan 20, 2014 at 5:21 PM

If we were to sell Cabaye, it would make so much more sense to sell him after the world cup. His value is going to rocket this summer! Cabella would be a very good addition to our squad, but as a replacement for Marveaux, rather than Cabaye. Increasing the quality of our second string will be far more beneficial than replacing first-teamers!
We have to keep hold of Cabaye this window, to keep up our momentum, and a possible push for europe!

  • 46 sparky55 // Jan 20, 2014 at 5:23 PM

I hope you are right, but as I say I am totally ignorant to the lads game, all I know is youtube, which I accept is a pathetic way of forming an opinion ( unless your Dennis Wise ), what I am guilty of is seeing the skill level of him which is immence but then thinking why is he not better known or at a better club than what he is at now, and I have put that down to being lazy and playing for himself rather than the team, which is pathetic from me so I apologise for being so judgemental.

I guess it depends on how desperate he is to leave. I doubt he wants to disrupt his own season by moving. Would he really want to fork out to buy his contract? Would he be guaranteed an extra big signing on fee elsewhere? It puts him in a strong position, but I’d like to see NUFC commit to him, and offer a contract extension. Then everyone’s intentions might be revealed and we could decide how to go on from there!

What if Cabaye invokes the Webster ruling.
    What if Cabaye gets injured.
What if Cabaye has a bad world cup, or sits on the bench.

Cabaye is fit and in form right now… the least risk way to sell him, would be to sell him now, if a good bid came in.

  • 69 Markaccus // Jan 20, 2014 at 5:45 PM

Facts are simply what people use to form their opinions around. Put forth your opinion, fine. State the facts behind your reasoning, fine. What you have to then remember, is that a person with a different opinion, will be looking at different facts for their reasoning. It DOES NOT make either party correct, as each side will claim their facts are more relevant. And if you see an opinion agreeing with your own, it does not make it any more valid.

Salah has a better end product and potential. Although he is very similar to HBA in a sense that they are both left footed right wingers. But if we get Salah we can play HBA in the no 10 role which might suit him more than rw.

    Ancientcoptic,
I don’t how likely invoking the Webster Ruling would be, but on your other points, about whether Cabaye could get injured, or lose his form, or lose his place – I guess its just a judgement call. Personally, I think he’s just going to get better and better and I think he’s likely to keep his international place. Getting injured can happen anytime, can’t it?
Ultimately, I’d like to see us resist offers for him and reinforce the squad.

How can you be so sure? especially when Dan Goslings future is in doubt and he is most likely to go back to Blackpool on permanent. With Cabaye nearly certainly going before next season, HBA in last year of contract, Coloccini always looking to argentina, Jonas going, Gosling and Shola out of contract , cisse possibly being moved our and Remys loan ending, constant speculation on krul and santon there will seemingly be a massive squad overhaul surely the club will have to spend

Hes no fan of the premier league though and especially of nufc! We ‘stole’ his jewell in the crown in MYM who really pushed through his transfer! Nicollin considered MYM a 20m player and the future of frances defense aswell as a personsl friend so to be forced to let him go for £5.75m because MYM forced the deal really pissed him off

none of us like JFK, but this is not him, it’s as clear as day that Montpellier will do whatever they can to scupper the deal, they were narked at losing their influential skipper Mapou Yanga Mbiwa and the thought of now losing their prize asset to a team who cannot off European football to them is painful, I can see why they are so hostile towards us, if we lose Cabaye to what we percieve as being a bigger and better club then we would say yes, he deserves that, but if he went to a like for like club then we would not like it, and Montpellier view us as like for like.

  • 174 JackButler // Jan 20, 2014 at 7:21 PM

The only reason that Montpelier Officials are trying to come across as hostile is simply to try to force the price up as much as possible. We took MYM off them and we could well do the same with Cabella, ultimately it will come down to how much we are willing to pay for the lad as all the bluster they are coming out with is simply BS.
