There have been a number of reports coming out of France since Saturday on Yohan Cabaye possibly being on his way to Paris Saint-Germain, and Montpellier’s Remy Cabella coming to Newcastle, and both deals will be completed in January – at least according to the reports.
Remy Cabella – Montpellier want to keep him until the summer
We’ve tracked down some of these reports – specifically in L’Equipe and lesport10.com, and this is what we’ve been able to find out.
Montpellier would like to keep their midfielder Remy Cabella until the summer, so he could help them escape relegation, although after their great 2-0 win at Sochaux on Saturday, where Remy played for 80 minutes, they are now 5th bottom of the French league , and Sochaux are second bottom now and 10 points behind Montpellier.
The reports suggest that if Montpellier get a huge bid from a club for Cabella this month, and the fee they want is said the be €17M which translates to around £14M, then they would sell this month.
And £14M is the fee Montpellier wanted for Cabella, when Manchester United were interested in the player last summer.
The news today is that Joe Kinnear will be trying to make a deal for Cabella, and is meeting with Montpelier officials.
As far as Cabaye is concerned, the reports in France are suggesting that Cabaye is just the classy and creative player that PSG want – and need – and they suggest PSG are readying a huge bid for the player – said to be something over £21M.
If that does happen,we think Mike Ashley will sell, although the owner may try to squeeze more money out of PSG – like he did when Liverpool came a calling for Andy Carroll, and initially bid £30M for the Gateshead born striker, and Ashley was able to get that fee up to £35M and paid out in cool cash by Liverpool.
Since Yohan is Mike Ashley’s favorite player, we wouldn’t be surprised if he tries to make another stellar deal – maybe for as much as £25M, if Cabaye is to leave the club
Given that we only paid just over £4M for Yohan, that’s a huge profit in 30 months – but most fans are only interested in who would come in and replace Cabaye – since we want to see Newcastle become a great side again.
Yes – I’m like a broken record on that one – but some of us are running out of time to see Newcastle in the top four again.
And we don’t think the two deals are related, since Cabella would not be a direct replacement for Cabaye – and Newcastle would need to bring in another player if Cabaye was to leave – but we’d be hard pressed to get anybody in other than Cabella in January.
Bottom line seems to be that Newcastle will get Cabella if they bid big money – around £14M – and Cabaye will go to PSG, but only if Newcastle receive a bid something north of £20M for the French International.
Note: There is a special MJK Sports event coming up like we’d like to publicize. On May 9th there will be an evening with Kevin Keegan at the Lancastrian suite in Gateshead. You can get the details about the event and buy your tickers here.
