Confusion Over Newcastle’s Cabella Deal

Joe Kinnear is negotiating with Montpellier for a deal involving Montpellier’s midfielder Remy Cabella, who has been a target of Newcastle’s for a few months now.

remy cabella 98
Remy Cabella – reports that an agreement reached with Newcastle

And tonight the Montpellier Vice-President Laurent Nicollin, who is the son of Montpellier President Louis,  told the French site Midi Libre, that an agreement has been reached:

“We have an agreement with the leaders of Newcastle that I will not reveal,” ”But it does not include a departure for Remy before June, it is a certainty.”

But Newcastle have quickly denied a deal has been made, and it could be the deal is very close but not yet signed, and it  makes sense for Newcastle to deny that a deal has been completed, until everything is tied up and Remy Cabella’s signature is on the bottom line.

Sky Sports were first to report the deal, and the above quote, but on the Midi Libre web-site right now, Laurent Nicollin is saying other clubs are still in the bidding. 🙁

This is the quote on Midi Libre at the moment, from the Montpellier Vice-President:

“Discussions with leaders of Newcastle, as with other clubs, are open. We are ready to discuss. But for Rémy, he is not expected to leave before June, it is a certainty”

Those two statements say different things.

We’ll just have to wait and see in the day or so what transpires, but if we were take a guess, the deal must be very close with Newcastle.

And with Newcastle also being linked with top 21 year-old top Egyptian International Mohamed Salah,  who usually plays out on the right wing, and is currently at Basel in Switzerland, it could be that Newcastle are trying to sign two players, before PSG make their move for Yohan Cabaye, which the French press are forecasting will happen before the end of January.

If Newcastle can get these two signings set up, it will maybe be a little bit easier for Newcastle to let Cabaye go for something over £20M.

But Joe Kinnear has also said he will not let any top player  leave Newcastle this month – however if PSG do come in with say a £21M bid, it will be very hard for owner Mike Ashley to turn that down, for a player we paid just over £4M for a short 30 months ago.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Ok…I found your post as it was one of the last on last night’s last blog as you said. I don’t get it though. Of course I’d take Europe, even Europa League, but I’m not sure what you’re suggesting I was saying is a pipe dream? CL? This season, yes. I can’t see us overtaking 4 clubs to get it.

oh, it would be dream come true if we sign Cabella and Salah…but if this will happen, HBA is out in the summer…never mind I am very happy that we are after these top young players, Salah is great winger…..we should go for Gomis too, especially for this low price….that would be excellent window…..
    Debuchy,Willo,MYM,Santon
    ………Tiote………..Cabaye……….
    Salah……..Sissoko……..Cabella
    ……………….Remy…………………..
    great bench with Haidara,Collo,Saylor,Anita,Goofy,Shola,HBA….

    Toon Darn Sarf,

Thank you for explaining. I may have misunderstood what you meant by: “fourth is a pipe-dream.”

    Or:

“We fans may wish the excitement of a European push but unless we build up properly, it only ends up being a flash in the pan.”

It’s just that you sometimes seem to espouse different points of view, depending on who you are debating.
You told me you’d take Europe in a flash.
Other times you argue it is possible, but only on some very elastic timescale, counselling the patience of Job.
And frequently you have argued that Newcastle will never be able to compete with the teams who regularly claim those places, because football has changed so much that our traditional claim to “big-clubness” (our gate) is obsolete and irrelevant.
What sort of timescale is the one you imagine?
Is it now, whenever, or never?

TF8 – If that was to happen, Collo would be on his way home; Saylor would throw his toys out the pram and seek first team footy elsewhere; Shola, who should have been released years ago, should be away at end of season.
The actual team doesn’t look bad – if only lol

We now do appear to be on the cusp of putting together a quite formidable side, hopefully that pans out, but it has been a bit of a painful and painstaking process to have endured and now more than ever I think those who pay at the turnstiles are deserving of a top team to support.

Losing Cabaye though and not strengthening well with the proceeds would be a bitter pill to say the least, and certainly not beyond the realms of possibility. Cabaye would seem to have developed into a playmaker of the highest quality and will be by no means easy to replace.

Please don’t confuse what I want as a NUFC fan with what I believe will happen as a football fan, businessman and a realist.

I want to see the club build up slowly so we can close the gap on the likes of Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool. I’d rather invest well in that way and be a top 6 club in 3 years than fluke it into the Europa League this year, then struggle to 10th next season.

For the foreseeable future we can’t regularly compete with Man
Utd, Chelski and City because they have huge revenues to strengthen. Arsenal and Liverpool are very wealthy too. Spurs are still some distance ahead but are the ones we need to target. For us to catch them on more than a one-off basis, we need to make consistently better decisions than them.

This is becoming a major drag. It’s enough that Newcastle es a roller-coaster ride on the pitch, but to have another with each transfer we try is too much to deal with.

I build up hopes, then have them dented by contradicting stories, then I am lifted again by positive news regarding the transfer only to hear other negative quotes the next day.

It’s ridiculous! Thank God I am still young or else I would have serious issues with my health with all of this shite!

has anyone seen that the next possible fifa president is more of a rugby fan!!!
and wants the same kinda rules in football?
i.e an extra card for sin bins?

wat a joke like! who actually votes these people in and where do they come from?

he said the refs are under so much scrutiny!
so why bring an extra rule in, that will be under much much more scrutiny! bonkers like!

Hope Mbiwa starts at the back next game as Debuchy is making his way back to RB. If Mbiwa is dropped for Saylor… This will halt any progress and development for Mbiwa. Just like we halted Anita’s progress when we benched him for the past nearly 2 seasons. Now look, he should of been playing the day we got him, Graham Carr doesn’t spot “Gems” so they sit on the bench to spectate.

But then again, look what Pardew has done to Ben Arfa, he’s put his confidence down by benching him every but 1 game this season, made him change his playing philosophy and only gets 5-8 min a game which he expects him to change the game while they play defensive containing football which has happened every single game in second half.

Looks like Ben Arfa has been Pardewed along with Marveaux, Cisse. Then you got fans saying sell Cisse hes sh!t, cash on him!! Two opinionated biased fans. When he starts magically banging them in another team, who you going to blame then? hes track record proves hes a natural goal scorer and consistent.

As stats show this season, we are the team that shoot most “OUTSIDE OF THE BOX” rather then in on the oppositions half. What does this mean for Cisse? Let me explain to you fans that dont understand. Cisse is a Poacher, he always play in between the last 2 defenders, now that Pardew doesnt play for attacking final ball football, he plays attack Around the box and shoot from far to catch out the oppositions GK. Any fan can see this.

Another thing I absolutely hate is Pardew constantly parking the bus after second half talks. We are 1-0 or 2-1 up and he just tells the lads to sit back contain, this will only invite upon more pressure. The second half against West Ham crushed me, we got dominated by a very, very, very poor team that has Lowest points..
    Lowest Points: per Game
0.82 West Ham United, Sunderland, Cardiff City.

    Opinions appreciated!

Shola is usefull in some matches, especially in the end, when we are leading, to hold up ball and help in defensive set pieces…Collo and Saylor for me are worse than Mbiwa and Willo…they are our best CB pairing…maybee Haidara should start for Santon too, but it wont happen under Pardew….but if these players come, we will have plenty of options…for me Cisse is deadwood, Obertan too…Jonas too, i am glad he is out, i like him as a person, but as a footballer is not good enough for NUFC…if we can bring Salah and Cabella we will be very good, killing from counters 😀

i haven’t heard of this Mohamed Salah but i checked FM 14 and he’s an quick little bugger with great flair he plays on both wings and is left footed so in terms he’s an natural winger on the left but an inside forward on the right and he’s young.

    looks promising

Not a lot to disagree with there to b honest. But u could say cisse hasnt had much of a chance since he was dropped all the way back when we played everton. Besides last couple of games ive seen cisse play cardiff, stoke. Hes scored nd played well. But pardew still picks shola? Who goal record is nothing short of pathetic if im honest

The deal on cabella seems confusing. Lots of media speculation. I havent seen the kid play but id rather we payed 13 to 15 million on a striker who will score 20 goals a season without fail.

I no its a week away but heres my team for norwich (if we dont sign no1. Which seem likley)

    ——————–krul————————-
    Debuchy——saylor———willo—–mbiwa—

    Sissoko——-cabaye——tiote——–gouff—
    ————cisse———remy————-

I no i might get critisised for no santon but he got blown away by west hams right side. Carroll nd cole missed there sitters both being crosses from that side.

Kebabs need to be given a new contract.
We need a striker to replace strolla as hes rubbish.
Cisse needs selling even if we dont get anyone in to replace.
Willo is our best CH whoever suits him is his partner.
Collo we go in the summer probs dont need a replacement.
We need to play Tiote and Anita in the same team.

With a quick number 10 you need a partner who is good in the air and can hold up the ball.

Do you think AC has a clause which means he can move if WH are religated?
