Joe Kinnear is negotiating with Montpellier for a deal involving Montpellier’s midfielder Remy Cabella, who has been a target of Newcastle’s for a few months now.
Remy Cabella – reports that an agreement reached with Newcastle
And tonight the Montpellier Vice-President Laurent Nicollin, who is the son of Montpellier President Louis, told the French site Midi Libre, that an agreement has been reached:
“We have an agreement with the leaders of Newcastle that I will not reveal,” ”But it does not include a departure for Remy before June, it is a certainty.”
But Newcastle have quickly denied a deal has been made, and it could be the deal is very close but not yet signed, and it makes sense for Newcastle to deny that a deal has been completed, until everything is tied up and Remy Cabella’s signature is on the bottom line.
Sky Sports were first to report the deal, and the above quote, but on the Midi Libre web-site right now, Laurent Nicollin is saying other clubs are still in the bidding.
This is the quote on Midi Libre at the moment, from the Montpellier Vice-President:
“Discussions with leaders of Newcastle, as with other clubs, are open. We are ready to discuss. But for Rémy, he is not expected to leave before June, it is a certainty”
Those two statements say different things.
We’ll just have to wait and see in the day or so what transpires, but if we were take a guess, the deal must be very close with Newcastle.
And with Newcastle also being linked with top 21 year-old top Egyptian International Mohamed Salah, who usually plays out on the right wing, and is currently at Basel in Switzerland, it could be that Newcastle are trying to sign two players, before PSG make their move for Yohan Cabaye, which the French press are forecasting will happen before the end of January.
If Newcastle can get these two signings set up, it will maybe be a little bit easier for Newcastle to let Cabaye go for something over £20M.
But Joe Kinnear has also said he will not let any top player leave Newcastle this month – however if PSG do come in with say a £21M bid, it will be very hard for owner Mike Ashley to turn that down, for a player we paid just over £4M for a short 30 months ago.
