Reports Newcastle Agree Cabella Deal – For Summer Transfer

7:36 pm, Monday, January 20th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 27 Comments

There is news coming through from France that Montpellier have confirmed an agreement has been reached with Newcastle United for the transfer of their midfielder Remy Cabella, but the midfielder will move in the summer and not this month.

Remy Cabella - will become Newcastle player in the summer

We assume this means that a contract agreement has been reached with both Montpellier on the fee, and with Remy Cabella on his wages and the deal will be completed at the end of the season, and that Cabella will become a Newcastle player on July 1st.

This is what  Montpellier Chairman Laurent Nicollin has told the French site Midi Libre:

“We have an agreement with the leaders of Newcastle that I will not reveal,” “But it does not include a departure for Remy before June, it is a certainty.”

We had mentioned last week that if Cabella couldn’t move in January,  there was nothing stopping Newcastle from agreeing the deal now, and have it be completed in the summer.

And this is what seems to have happened, and it’s Joe Kinnear’s first signing for Newcastle United.

No word on the fee, but it’s probably between £12M and £14M, and this looks like a good deal for Newcastle United, and well done Joe Kinnear, and it’s good that Mike Ashley has come up with the money.

And with the deal now agree, it seems the news that Remy wanted to join Newcastle was indeed true, and now we need to get a striker in this month, and keep Yohan Cabaye at the club.

Now keep hold hold of Cabaye, add more quality in this window and next and we should be challenging for the top 4 come next season

So Ibiza…what are you actually doing over there besides drinking Lite beer and entertaining the golden ladies? ;)

  • 5 JackButler // Jan 20, 2014 at 7:47 PM

Jesper…As if there is anymore time in my day to accomplish more than drinking lite beer and entertain the lovely zimmer frame folk of California…

To be honest, I’m probably making JK look proactive. Very chilled.

I hope he stays and helps us push for CL spot, if we by some miracle make it, he stays otherwise we can sell him after the WC for a hefty profit and “reinvest” in summer. I still believe our season will be defined in this window. Who we sell and buy. Hoping another CB and ST is part of the plan

On a separate note, can anybody tell me why the team is jetting out to Aberdaby. Surely it’s perfectly easy to take the coach to Wales?

Still in Palms or have you moved on?

Great inititive shown by Newcastle to wrap things up in advance. It’s a shame though that we’ll probably be left wanting to see both Cabaye and Cabella play together in the same team. It’s still possible that Cabaye stays after summer but looks very unlikely.

Either way great piece of business by Newcastle.

Now get us that striker for this month and we will be stronger for the last push of this season.

I am a bit skeptical about this deal.

Is this a deal in principle? Or we buying him now and reloaning him?

I hope its the latter, because if its the former….well

Jesper…Mainly in PS, but have been popping up to LA every now and then.

Have started working again, which is a right pain with the time difference. Oh well, I’ll just have to go sit in the sun for a bit and sulk ;)

I think the lad wants out if a champions League club come in for him and who can blame him. If PSG are seriously offering anywhere near the 26 million euros thats being quoted then you’d have to think that Ashley will take the money sooner rather than later.

The chance of warm weather training down here in Wales are absolutely zero

Get French Football are now reporting that Laurent Nicollin the chairman has now denied that any deal has been done with Newcastle.

i wonder if this is true, so many, “hes coming, hes not coming” stories…

i am a hundred-aire… and ive made just as many signings as NUFC…. zero…

at least i have ambition, to sign my tab before stumbling home…

  • 20 stretchintoon // Jan 20, 2014 at 8:07 PM

If its true weve got Cabella,if its true were trying to snatch Salah from under the noses of liverfool and were also still trying to negoitiate a deal for Remy then i should imagine Cabayes off to PSG.

  • 21 Big Pappa Cissé // Jan 20, 2014 at 8:08 PM

I have now belatedly accepted Cabaye leaving :( (although not till the summer) , but think if we invest the money received for Yohan and bring in:

    Remy permanent

Then we will still have a brilliant team:

Although we are dealing with Mike Ashley here and I doubt he would spend the money received for Cabaye if he was sold on immediate replacements .

Thoughts of a chant for Cabella ? .

Best I can come up with is:

    “We have got Remy Cabella-ella-ella–eh–eh–eh”

    To the tune of Rihanna’s umbrella :) . Anyone else ? .

Not taking this as gospel till someone at NUFC says something! Nicollin wastes words like a fool and craves the spotlight! Hope its not the case but the way nicollin does things I wouldn’t be surprised if we either had signed him already or not even made contact! Man will do anything to keep himself infront of journalists! Be good when they are relegated and the french press forget him! Hes worse than dave bloody whelan! Thank heavens he didn’t break his leg in an fa cup final…..

  • 25 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 20, 2014 at 8:12 PM

At 28, Cabaye is about at his peak. We’ll get plenty of money from a club that wants a complete player who can play at that level for realistically at least the next 4 years. I think the only way that he’ll stay is if we convince him that we’re going to strengthen to realistically challenge the top 4. Otherwise, I can understand him wanting to play CL football again.

  • 26 lesh // Jan 20, 2014 at 8:30 PM

There’s absolutely nothing in Nicollin’s words (We have an agreement with the leaders of Newcastle that I will not reveal,” ”But it does not include a departure for Remy before June, it is a certainty.”). Which says that Cabella will join Newcastle United at all.

The agreement could have been something along the lines of Ashley agrees to keep Kinnear as far away from Montpellier as possible otherwise…….!

Could be an agreement that we’ll be the first to be invited to put an offer in for him. Could be anything and to be honest, with Kinnear on the case, I won’t believe it until we see Cabella holding the shirt!!

Just had a look at this lad on youtube.
A vey exciting and skilful player, but to me he seems a lot like Ben Arfa.
Does anybody knows anything about this player , as I m a little unsure,
