Cabaye – If Newcastle Fans Are Happy – I Am Happy

8:02 am, Tuesday, January 21st, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 52 Comments

It seems that Yohan Cabaye has learned a lot from the events of last August, when he went on strike to try to force a move through to Arsenal,  after the top London club had bid £11M for the Frenchman.

yohan cabaye99

Yohan Cabaye – has supreme skills

And with PSG manager Laurent Blanc again doing his transfer business in the press, if the news in France is to be believed there will be a bid over £20M coming in for Cabaye from the Paris-based club this month.

But that could simply be paper-talk and may not happen – we hope it doesn’t happen .

And Yohan has now scored five goals in his last seven matches for Newcastle, as he has been given a free role in the Newcastle side by manager Alan Pardew.

But he’s generally playing as the withdrawn striker, and with Cabaye’s class when he sees an opportunity,  he doesn’t usually miss the chance and his two goals for Newcastle at West Ham on Saturday were simply magnificent, and showed the supreme skills the Frenchman possesses:

And it seems Yohan is happy at Newcastle, as he had this to say after the win at the Hammers:

“For me, the most important thing is to do my best for the team,” “If the manager or the staff are happy with my performance, and the fans who are supporting me are happy, I am happy.”

“My mentality hasn’t changed – even after what happened in the summer – and I will do my best for the team every day.”

“We are in a good position and we stay just behind the top six, top seven.  “We can work without pressure for the moment and its good for us.”

“Now we just have to focus on the next game, and we will see what is going to happen for maybe the last four or five games, where we are going to be.”

Those are good words from Yohan, who is with the Newcastle squad in Abu Dhabi at the moment, and we wonder if Newcastle are thinking of offering him a big new deal to stay on Tyneside?

If they’re not they should be.

And on Saturday the traveling Newcastle fans made no attempt to hide their feelings for the player – as they sang out “Don’t sell Cabaye,”

We’ll have to see if a huge bid comes in from PSG, but it’s hardly professional for the PSG manager to mention other clubs’ top players as targets – but Blanc did that constantly through the summer.

Comments welcome.

For those of you who don’t know, I have a friend working in the admin/business side of NUFC and every now and then he’ll give me some updates of what’s going on. He doesn’t deal with transfers himself but does take calls, see the odd person coming and going, does some expense claims and hears internal rumour as well……this is then coupled with paper talk/tv rumours and we try to see what are more likely than others. So none of this is 100%, just educated guessing with a little inside knowledge. So here goes….

We have been linked with a loan move for zaha with an option to buy, the lad is thinking of handing in a transfer request and moyes does not think he is a utd player for whatever reason, this news apparently has made us step up our interest.

The interest in Remy cabella is very real and the club hope to have him in during January which is what is holding up a deal as Montpellier don’t want to let him go now.

Luuk De Jong will arrive on loan, there is talk in the club that this is what’s needed to give Remy some support. This should be done towards the end of the window.

Not got any other strong links to other rumoured targets we have been linked to, these are the only ones.

Remember these are never guaranteed, just piecing together things as best we can.

So our cunning DOF is putting out misleading messages to put people of the scent…maybe there’s more to c@ntybollox than meets eye…that’s a cunning ploy I’ve never seen before and one that gives us a much better chance of 2 or 3 players…now why didn’t I think of that!

  • 3 Santon03 // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:15 AM

what about transfer out, any news?

  • 4 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:17 AM

All sounds very believable and sensible. I imagine the de Jong holdup is them getting a replacement

  • 5 sparky55 // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:17 AM

cabs doesn’t want to attract any more abuse from the fans so is on a charm offensive…he knows he’s going and he knows he’s going soon and wants the crowd behind him when we play norwich.

shame the game against the unwashed is one day outside the window!

  • 6 anthc // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:19 AM

Must be honest, I’ll be gutted when this lad moves on he’s a great player. Not sure about zaha but cabella and de jong could be good deals although come end of the season if remy and de jong go back where does that leave us?

  • 7 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:21 AM

He hears very little on outgoings, as they sort of deal more directly with the top brass. Other bits can be pieced from things like expenses/flight or hotel bookings around certain regions and what teams play there, coupling it with media stories and little bits inside.

As for sales he always says it’s the usual, if the offer is good enough we will sell, like any club, but we don’t tout the lads around as far as he knows.

yeh anything which kicks around the papers this long with actual quotes from payers/clubs is usually easier to confirm, the only one that caught me off guard was the zaha transfer not just as a loan.

hopefully they come off, especially the cabella and de jong deals.

  • 8 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:30 AM

cheers for the possible inside info, sage.

how long before the first numpty pops upand cuts you down? 😀

  • 9 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:31 AM

Well a loan with an option to buy for Zaha would be just fine. Would put HBA down the order a little if it works though.

Those 3 in the Jan would be awesome. Would be nice to get a defensive recruit too.

  • 10 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:32 AM

If we do sell cabs thia window, i think we should be allowed to keep him on a one month loan, to make sure he plays v sunderland and to ease another player into his role.

  • 11 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:33 AM

I don’t believe there will be any outgoings other than fringe players. Why would the internationals take a gamble when they’re doing well for us and set up to go to the WC? Plus, there’s n chance of them being tired with us as we don’t play any more cup matches!!

  • 12 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:33 AM

Does anyone think sissoko could play in that position? He was touted as a box to box midfielder when he first arrived?

  • 13 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:34 AM

I would not be a fan of a loan for zaha without a deal to buy, i don’t mind short term loans but need to be for players proven.

If it was just a loan with no buying would need to be a full season with him as he would take a month or two to settle so only really get a handful of games out of him.

  • 14 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:34 AM

    Tongue in cheek?

  • 15 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:35 AM

I would say cabaye going ,especially to PSG or man utd wouldn’t hard his chances as he has such a reputation in france even a bad couple months wouldn’t stop him going I don’t think.

But there is no reason I couldn’t see him running their midfields if he was to join.

  • 16 Santon03 // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:35 AM

one more question, about flights and hotels. Are we only scouting in france?

  • 17 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:37 AM

I don’t really want to see us loaning any players without an option to buy. But like we agreed yesterday, sometimes a loan should be the backup option when there’s a weakness and a permanent transfer is not possible.

Getting Zaha for a loan only would be a kick in the teeth for HBA, Sammy and Marv…

  • 18 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:37 AM

    kind of 😀

not a bad idea though. Id like him to destroy the mackems before he left

  • 19 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:39 AM

I wouldn’t risk losing momentum if I was him. And he’ll be fresh by staying with us. He should wait until the summer and if he does well in the WC then maybe a really top club will come in for him. Playing well in big matches against top opposition couldn’t hurt him…

  • 20 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:40 AM

Me too! I reckon he’ll stay though. I don’t think we’ll lose any top players this Jan.

  • 21 bills-son // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:41 AM

I can’t see us paying more than £7/8M for Zaha so ManU would have to take a big hit.

With Fellaini ManU’s last two signings have cost £42M and neither are getting a game.

But I guess they were ambitious signings 🙂

  • 22 SuperShearer // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:41 AM

Blanc has been doing what Redknapp used to do. Tapping people up in a public forum. It’s disgusting and unprofessional. There should be some kind of FIFA law against managers doing this. If you want to buy a player stop trying to get them to put in a transfer request and just make an offer.
@Transfer Sage thanks for the updates sir, always good to hear what might be happening even if it is speculation and conjecture, we all read rumour mills, it’s half the fun of being a fan in the transfer window.

  • 23 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:43 AM

Marv is totally out of favour so I’d just count him out realy, rightly or wrongly pardew doesn’t want him on the pitch so not too bothered if we put his nose out of joint. Same for sammy, don’t see him coming on at all, not going to be good enough I don’t think, he needs a full season on loan for regular games.

We had scouts in south america last season, never mentioned them this year but he says we have some scouting in holland, germany and belgium. Also Carr has a wide range of contacts and they naturally talk and share info…say carr finds a good player but not for us, he’ll maybe tell his contacts and they do likewise with him…then if our type of guy we’ll go look at him.

  • 24 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:45 AM

my point with cabaye is that although staying with us might be better for him I don’t think moving would be a big risk for his world cup place either….and really newcastle united will decide if he stays or goes depending on if his value is met.

  • 25 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:46 AM

Agreed. I’m not bothered about anyone’s nose being put out of joint. If they want to get back into the team, they need to up their game. If they can’t, they get shipped out with our thanks. But I’m really bothered about those who are in our 18.

  • 26 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:48 AM

Blanc and Floppy chops are two of the most odius characters in the sport. The governing bodies seem to like these corrupt entities, due to being corrupt themselves.

  • 27 Rotonda heights // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:49 AM

Would much rather get Salah than Zaha. Zaha always struck me as a headless chicken.

  • 28 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:54 AM

another case of an english player being over hyped and over priced. He is quick with good feet, but from the little i saw of him, i share your headless chicken impression.

  • 29 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:55 AM

I’m not a huge zaha fan, he did deliver for palace in big games though, took a lot on. But if man utd don’t rate him ahead of players like ashley young then i’m not sure how good he really is at this level.

yeh, look at willo, he was dropped last season and has clearly worked on his control, passing and removing the mistakes from his game and now he’s a solid 7 our of 10 every week at least. He is playing the ball out better and doing so much better

  • 30 ballerfan2 // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:59 AM

Any move for Zaha would be bad news for Ben Arfa as I see them as very similar players, similar skills and similar faults, trying to do too much with their heads down. Can’t see the point in having them both, particularly as HBA can’t get a game even now.
Regarding Cisse – why does it have to be Pardew’s fault that he has lost his confidence. Maybe you should blame Pardew for the misfiring of Torres, Jelavic, Benteke too – all hot shots a short time ago who have lost their way recently.

  • 31 bills-son // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:02 AM

    Good point.

Cisse’s loss of form is Pardew’s fault but the form of Willo, Debuchy, Cabaye, Tiote and Gouffran has nowt to do with him.

  • 32 Santon03 // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:03 AM

thanks for the info. I hope we can scout more in Spain, Italy, Serbia, croatia.

Regarding Zaha, it’s ok if we get him on loan with option to buy or without. It does smell like another Obertan imo. It’s good if he turned out to be a “Rossi”.

  • 33 Mister Tuff // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:03 AM

Tranfer – sounds decent info -possibly shows a bit of intent to have a real go to climb up the table during the remaining matches.
There is a bit of controversy surrounding Zaha at the moment with reports that if he is not allowed a loan deal he may ask for a transfer. He was supposed to be playing in the reserves last night -named in the team -but without explanation dropped to the bench -came on later though.
But if we get Cabella,de Jong and Zaha this window I don’t think there could be many complaints. Bit worried about Nicollin senior and junior coming out with conflicting statements though. I think old Joe must have convinced Mr Tubbs that we do need additional players now.

  • 34 Santon03 // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:06 AM

when we were linked with Zaha last season, so many people said we should buy him and we didn’t ,then so many saying “no ambition blablabla”.

  • 35 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:06 AM

Sage, thanks for sharing the info. Good work.

  • 36 Mister Tuff // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:08 AM

Further thought – I hope that in view of the”apparent” stories about Cabella not being available until June – that the Zaha rumour is not being considered to “tide us over” until the summer -when Cabella will be free. Three players this window in my opinion shows a bit of serious intent to have a go this season.

  • 37 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:13 AM

That Salah looks great on You Tube. To me, it’s a footballing crime having Ben Arfa on the bench.

In an attack minded team, other players would be pulling opposition players out of position, leaving Hatem an easier route and more options around him.

At the minute he gets his last 10 minutes or so to pacify the crowd and to hopefully nick Pardew a goal. His skills should be valued a lot higher than that.

  • 38 stuart no9 // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:14 AM

    MARKACCUS @ 8——————-
how long before the first numpty pops upand cuts you down? . Whats all that about ? stupid comment,!

  • 39 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:18 AM

In fairness to pardew ben arfa hasn’t been playing well in terms of decision making.

I think we need to try and give him more than 20mins a game, maybe even give him a full run against norwich, just rest gouff/sissoko before the derby match.

  • 40 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:19 AM

Ballerfan, Pardew played Cisse on the wing for half a season in order to cater to Ba’s demands, even though he left anyway. Cisse was a makeshift fullback more than he was a centre forward.

That can only degrade confidence for him to be out of position for so long, defending in a negative team and also deemed not good enough to play as a centre forward where he did really well the previous season.

From there the lad is trying to build up confidence. How can he do that when regular quality service is few and far inbetween.

    Containment football has consequences.

  • 41 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:20 AM

I think when ben arfa was playing ‘badly’ the team weren’t great either. In recent games we have been getting more people forward and attacking a bit better.

Hopefully if he comes back in he will be able to use the extra options we have had available in recent weeks,

  • 42 stuart no9 // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:21 AM

looking at the situatioin with cabs, i dont think it is a decision by ashley to appease the the fans, but more of a business call to his advantage , knowing that after the world cup – depending on his performences being top class as they are at present, ashley could name his price. At least we have him for another few months .

  • 43 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:24 AM

Transfer, he’s hardly playing though. Hatem was great at the start of the season.

I find it annoying that Pardew has any reason to take him out through a poor game or two, which can be the norm for flair players, yet he can keep Jonas and Tiote in all last year and they were so poor. It’s not right and is two faced.

Anita is the same. I really like him as he keeps the ball moving, links up the players around him and is quick. Yet, even after good games, he is dropped.

  • 44 catchy in norway // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:25 AM

I have a different take on how players should be treated

there is a saying , never step on people on your way up you might need them on your way down

I think pardew only has the players he trusts and the rest can go to hell

in other words, why should any of the players he has treated bad do anything for pardew when needed, this is just a job to them, most probably never heard of nufc before there agent told them,,

when pardew came , in his own words , he was a great man manager,,

    really ?

and no matter what we think, these players have value to the club, well under pardew most of the players value goes down,

  • 45 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:26 AM

    remember torq?
He used to post tip bits as to what he had heard through his work, and nearly always recieved abuse for being an itk et.c. so he stopped doing it. All because of numpties cutting him down for no good reason other than spite. So i am merely wondering how long it will be before some idiot comes on and accuse sage of spreading Sh!t.

Kindly ammend the tone of your post, you angry little man.

  • 46 Santon03 // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:29 AM

I think HBA need to work as a team, he tried to do everything himself, if it worked then it will be spectacular but it’s like 1 out of 20 times. He rarely pass or too slow to pass regardless how skillful he is, he will make it harder for the team to play well.
We love to see spectacular dribbling from our own half and doing those solo run and then scoring wonderful goal, but that will cost us. it’s very rarely work and he is trying to do it so many times because the fans hoping to see that all the time. HBA got great potential but he needs to play like Silva or Nasri which will benefit the team more.

  • 47 martoon // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:33 AM

Morning Markaccus – although you said it tounge in cheek it would maybe suit all parties if we sold Cabaye to PSG but then loaned him back until the end of the season. It would mean Cabaye gets game time before the WC, PSG get their man, we get the money to bring in replacements before he leaves – everybody is happy 🙂

  • 48 Jail for Ashley // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:33 AM

Ashley would be physically sick if Cabs stayed until his contract was up.

  • 49 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:36 AM

Which is why I never agree with those people wanting players shipped out. If they had their way then Willo would have gone to Norwich or somewhere like that and we’d be moaning about how Saylor was making silly mistakes while Willo was putting in solid performances for them.

I’d rather have HBA and Cisse on the bench than £20M in the bank and Sammy and Campbell on the bench…

  • 50 blew // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:37 AM

All we ever get from Man U is their
rubbish and I go back to Albert
Scanlon. I hope this Zaha rumour
    is false.

  • 51 ballerfan2 // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:42 AM

There seems to be a number of Ben Arfa fans who are keen on the Zaha link. We can’t afford more than one of them in the team at any one time. If Zaha came in on loan with no option to buy then he would also no doubt have a clause that he must play. Where does that leave HBA? It is just one deal that makes no sense to me.

  • 52 toonincheek // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:32 AM

One of the attractions of Cabaye to ManU
or PSG is that he is not cup-tied for the CL.
