Newcastle Target Will Reject Move To Tyneside

7:36 pm, Tuesday, January 21st, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 146 Comments

There’s news in le10sport.com in France today that if Newcastle approach Saint. Etienne for their 19 year-old young center-back Kurt Zouma, the player himself will reject the move.

kurt zouma

Kurt Zouma - top young French defender

That’s because  there are bigger clubs than Newcastle after him, and those clubs include Chelsea and Inter Milan, and both can offer the youngster Champions League football every season, and that’s something Newcastle cannot do for the foreseeable future.

That’s a fact – unfortunately.

Newcastle were interested in the top young French defender last summer, and if we had moved quickly at that time, there was probably a decent chance we could have signed the lad.

But with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho  said to be very keen on the youngster, this report in France should not be too big a surprise to Geordie fans.

Until Newcastle are in the top four in the Premier League most seasons, or make that a top goal for the club, the very best players will not come to Tyneside – because they want Champions League football, and you cannot blame them for  that.

And the news in le10sport.com is that Saint Etienne have already received bids from both Inter-Milan and AS Monaco in the region of £10M for their top youngster.

Chelsea are aggressively pursuing the player, and look to be the club best positioned to get the Frenchman, as Kurt has already said he’d love to join the London club, and a deal could even be completed by the end of the week.

The only thing Newcastle could offer Kurt would be a much better chance of playing first team football than at Chelsea (or Inter), but it seems he is not too worried about being on the bench at Chelsea.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Ok. No point even trying. Next!

  • 2 santonthenewmaldini // Jan 21, 2014 at 7:45 PM

Problem is he would go to Chelsea and most likely rot on the bench or go back out on loan silly move by him !!

Plenty of good young centre backs in the Championship that would be worth a shout surely ?

  • 3 G // Jan 21, 2014 at 7:46 PM

I never thought we were really in for him anyway. Will be a future star, no doubt. If we were ever in for him, we were in for him in the same way that we were in for Wayne Rooney from Everton. Publicity more than anything concrete.

Lol I’m watching at home, sky phoned and said for an extra £5 a month I could sign up to the hammers package where they come round and fit a telly on the ceiling so you don’t miss any of the action!

Inter Milan dont offer champions league football every year, this year they arent there, and they wont be next year as simply Juventus, Napol, Roma, Fiorentina are better this year…and there is only 3 places for Italian teams….

  • 11 JP...from The Rock // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:02 PM

If Chelsea don’t go in for him I think we stand a chance even without CL. Maybe we could offer him the EL? Who knows but he could use us as a stepping stone and then we sell him on a huge profit, I would be happy with that, for this player, seeing we aren’t his fancy atm.

  • 12 JP...from The Rock // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:03 PM

*stepping stone to a EPL club that can offer him CL footie I meant to say.

Must admit fair play to the WHU fans who have turned up to watch this sh*te!
WHU have put arguably there strongest team out and were 2-0 down after 20 mins in which citeh hadn’t even really started playing, in fact they still haven’t there just having a training exercise!

Fat Sam should be on a loud speaker at half time apologising to every fan there and offering his resignation!!!
What was it catchy said about FSA setting his team up to do a job? I’m assuming that job is to get routed week in

I am not sure many 19 year olds have got a game in the middle of defence at Inter or Chelsea.

If he had a brain he would be looking for a stepping stone club as people have said.

Yeah but how many leagues does he want them drop!
They’d be in trouble in the fizzy pop if they were playing like this!
I know someone who works not for WHU but directly for David Gold, there’s a serious question whether they are willing to bankroll another campaign in the lower leagues and are seriously looking at flogging the boyeln ground at the end of the season and selling up

  • 44 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:38 PM

So. Both nufc and whu have recently played citeh at our respective homes. Buth us and whu have put out strongest available sides. Man citeh have a weaker midfeild tonight than against us. We lost 2-0, but had more posession and could easily and deservedly got something out of the game. We actually looked threatening at times.
Whu on the other hand are 2 down at half time, defending horrifically, playing hoofage and generally looking like amateurs. Amateur tiddlywink ppayers at that.

I’m hoping adding a player like Cabella with another option up front like De Jong will add that depth to the squad and extra options to the team that we will hopefully crack the consistency issue and get us playing those fantastic triangles we’ve been playing over 90 minutes

  • 48 breno95 // Jan 21, 2014 at 8:43 PM

another example of a young player having his head filled of rubbish by so called agents who claim to have the players interest at heart which we all know is untrue.
a good agency would be encouraging the young lad to stay put a get another season or 2 under his belt or set hus sights in a move to the likes if us or everton / southampton where he would gain valuable EPL experience and demonstrate he can cut the mustard so to speak.
however the green stuff talks and he will be sold a duff move, hardly play, waste a full year in bench and reserves then be moved on to football scrapheap.
shame but thats the reality of the game today.
hope WHU are going to refund match tickets for both semi final games.

Getting Zouma to NUFC was even unrealistic last summer IMO. For quite a while he`s been seen as one of the most promising up-and-coming defenders out there.
In reality I would say it`s as unlikely as it would be for us to sign Eden Hazard a year and a half ago – as they are/were both as promising in their respective position as a youngster can be.

Also referring to our first league game when we went down to 10 men. He basically shut Navas out of the game.
Was the only positive I could draw that match.

  • 108 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:47 PM

    HD/dantoon
Must be thinking of some one else then!

  • 109 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:47 PM

seen the man city goal stats?

106 goals, 92 from inside the box….they create so many good chances

  • 110 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:50 PM

    Dannyo

Dummett looks like he will make it in the big time. Some of our other kids might, but dummet looks the most promising for me….. Bale started life as a left back…. i just wonder :D

  • 111 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:50 PM

    Sage
Because they have natural direct wide men

  • 112 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:53 PM

    tads

half the time the play aguero and nasri, not that naturally wide

they basically just have so much quality they can play through the middle or wide (with navas, kolorov)…so much quality all over the pitch.

they’ve broken so many records for goals

  • 113 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:53 PM

…..and toure, and negredo and aguero and dzeko and…….et.c lol

  • 114 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:54 PM

Seriously i know commentators are supposed to remain neutral but how the hell can Tony Cottee say WHU can take positives from that, tried to win the game? Behave aimless pints up field!
In all fairness i thought the game opened up a bit when a) city got to 8-0 on aggregate and thought that’ll do and b) taking Andy Carroll off

  • 115 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:54 PM

    i meant silva and nasri

  • 116 jimiley // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:55 PM

Lots of transfer gossip on the basis of Cabaye being sold for 26 million. It is all rubbish. Cabaye is staying. Lots of friends in the team. Why would he want to leave the Toon? Media bollocks again to cook up a story. we are not a selling club.

  • 117 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:56 PM

    Sage
They don’t play him wide that much mate they normally have 2 up front with Silva wide, Nasri, also disagree played huge chunks of his career to the right of a 3 man midfield

  • 118 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:56 PM

Often looks like citeh play a sensible soccer style 4-2-4!

Navas-negredo-aguero-nasri.(sometimes) or sometimes aguero will play wider and dzeko comes in. They are the most all-out attack side i have seen since keegans entertainers

  • 119 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:57 PM

Oh aye, forgot aboot Silva :D

  • 120 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:59 PM

    tads

sorry, i corrected myself with aguero, meant to say silva.

i just think silva and nasri aren’t genuine wide players don’t hug the touchline. What they do offer though is amazing movement and quick passing, as well as the option to go wide. They often have both of the forwards running the channels, taking turns and doing it well to set up chances.

they also dominate possession and the game so much they can afford to commit a lot of people forward into the box

  • 121 Markaccus // Jan 21, 2014 at 9:59 PM

    Silva-aguero-negredo-navas
    ————-toure–nasri

for example. They have so many options its unreal

  • 122 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:02 PM

    markaccus

i’d say their best side is

    ——–toure-fernandinho——-
    nasri————————-silva
    ——–aguero—negrado———

  • 123 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:05 PM

I actually fancy man city to do a bayern munich to barcelona

  • 124 Ancientcoptic // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:09 PM

    Silva, Cazorla & Mata.

    vrs

    Alonso, Bale & Modric?

Not even close, is it? (The Premier League trio)

  • 125 Transfer Sage // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:10 PM

    seen the stats on mata

involved in 49 goals (scored or assisted) with only 5 player having more since he joined.

only 5 have more, rvp, rooney, suarez, aguero, walcott (who has 27 goals, 22 assists)

  • 126 HTT // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:15 PM

like I can’t see any point in it beeping? Other than to annoy a few people each day who forget to mute their computers.

  • 127 Ancientcoptic // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:16 PM

I believe Mourinho uses a level of psychology, to get the best out of his team… this normally involves cutting one of the best squad players from the side, to get his team playing a higher tempo. (Keep them on their toes)

Pardew has said in the past, that he styles/emulates his football on Mourinho, hence the long diagonal balls, and cutting a player like Ben Arfa from the side.

We all know that Pardew is no Mourinho, but it is strange, how he has such a good record against the special one.

That reporter who said June’s when Csbelle may sign sounds much like my cynical view, based on Nicollin’s statement yesterday, that we have not or are not guaranteed to get Cabelle at all but have first opportunity to bid for him.

If that’s so a d that’s the best Kinnear can do then he really should be sacked, out, finished, gone, kaput!!!

  • 134 Shot Bru // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:35 PM

Zouma would rot in our reserves like all the other ‘promising youngsters’ we have…there doesn’t seem to be any real development plan for any of them…

We rarely give our young players a fair go…hence the reason they never fulfill their talent..

Zouma would be better off joining Southampton if he wants regular 1st team football in the EPL

  • 135 shearer and the duchess // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:35 PM

Can’t blame the chap when there are bigger clubs than Newcastle United after him.

Shame really, because we have bigger attendances than Chelsea & Inter.

If only Mr Ashley could unleash the full potential of our club.

He’s a slime ball and is holding us back.

Does anyone believe that young chappie Andy Carroll missed that sitter on Saturday on purpose. ?

That’s the third sitter in 3 years he’s missed against us.

  • 139 bobby mango // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:41 PM

Probably seen what’s happened to every other youngster we’ve signed and thought it’s not worth it… We seem to wreck promising youngsters.

  • 140 shearer and the duchess // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:45 PM

    @Mr Mango

My goodness young chap. How do you come to that conclusion? We’ve done wonders for many a young player.

That’s one of the reasons I changed allegiances from Chelsea to NUFC.

Chelsea have destroyed many a player. Unlike the Toon.

Shame on you for casting such aspersions.

  • 141 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:50 PM

Highly doubt it mate, he blazed a header from 8 yards out about 10 ft high and 10 ft wide tonight!

In Carroll which club got most screwed on the transfer Liverpool or WHU

  • 142 shearer and the duchess // Jan 21, 2014 at 10:57 PM

    @TADS

I don’t think so myself fellow. It was just some of my crew mates views that he did.

I don’t believe he would do such a thing.

Both Liverpool and WHU have been stung by the transfers but Liverpool more so.
There’s still a chance he can do it for WHU before the end of the season. I still rate him as being one of the best CF’s I’ve seen at the toon.

He looks like he’s joined a bloody hippy commune with that dastardly beard.

  • 143 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 21, 2014 at 11:07 PM

    SATD
I actually think WHU have done the worst
Liverpool realistically didn’t lose any money, Chelsea handed them £50 mil for Torres so at the end of transfer day they had £15 mil and a replacement they then made £15 mil flogging him
WHU however never really had that £15 mil and had to offer him more wages than Liverpool to get the lad there

  • 144 jimmysmith // Jan 21, 2014 at 11:12 PM

Players rarely make the career decisions do they, there’s always agents, family and hangers on involved, often motivated by self interest, you’d think, whether they’d even admit that to themselves.

Newcastle just might be the perfect club for Zouma, but his people seemingly don’t even want to know. Makes you wonder who’s driving his bus.

Then again, just as it occurs to me, who wouldn’t be wary of signing the bottom line of a contract alongside Mike friggen Ashley.

    YIKES!!!!

So what are ya gonna do.

  • 145 Shot Bru // Jan 21, 2014 at 11:31 PM

Jimmysmith…that’s the other side of the coin…agents, greed etc…

However putting that aside…the whole coaching setup and track record of developing youth players who become successful in the 1st team is piss poor..

Overly cautious approach from the coaches and ultimately Pardew in the fact that youth rarely gets a chance…It seemsThe stakes are too high in the EPL for a lot of coaches to give young players a chance..

  • 146 Sav // Jan 22, 2014 at 1:16 AM

If an 18 year old gets games for Chelsea at centre-half in the Champions League it will be a surprise. And if the moon is made of cream cheese. They’d almost certainly look to loan him out in the despicable loaning system.
