Newcastle Tracking Very Closely To Two Years Ago

We’ve taken a look at how we were doing two years ago after 22 games played, and this season Newcastle  are tracking very closely to two years ago,  when we finished in 5th place.

alan pardew

Alan Pardew – can he get Newcastle into top five again?

The following table has the home record first and then the away record – so HW is home win, HD is home draw etc – and HF and HA are home goals against and home goals for.

Here’s a comparison of this season with two seasons ago, and the records are surprisingly  similar.

SeasonPlayedHWHDHLHFHAAWADALAFAAGDPoints
2011-20122263216114341619+236
2013-20142253317126051516+436

We have six away wins this season, which is terrific and after 22  games played – the points are the same at 36, and the goal difference is very close – it’s now +4 compared to +2

It remains to be seen how well Newcastle can do after the full 38 games played, and we’ll track the results against how we did two years ago to get some idea of how we’re doing.

The total wins this season are  11 against 10 two years ago, the total draws are 3 against 6, and the total losses are 8 against 6 two years ago.

Total goals scored are 32, exactly the same as two years ago, and the goals against are 28 as against 30 – which accounts for the better goal difference of  +2.

It’s interesting – if nothing else. 😀

Comments welcome.

I have a different take on how players should be treated

there is a saying , never step on people on your way up you might need them on your way down

I think pardew only has the players he trusts and the rest can go to hell

in other words, why should any of the players he has treated bad do anything for pardew when needed, this is just a job to them, most probably never heard of nufc before there agent told them,,

when pardew came , in his own words , he was a great man manager,,

    really ?

and no matter what we think, these players have value to the club, well under pardew most of the players value goes down,

    remember torq?
He used to post tip bits as to what he had heard through his work, and nearly always recieved abuse for being an itk et.c. so he stopped doing it. All because of numpties cutting him down for no good reason other than spite. So i am merely wondering how long it will be before some idiot comes on and accuse sage of spreading Sh!t.

Kindly ammend the tone of your post, you angry little man.

seems to me we are doing worse this season than we did 2 years ago, we have a much better team now than 2 years ago and we still manage to scap wins against out of form teams.

i guess we will have to wait until end of season to truly show if we have improved

I think HBA need to work as a team, he tried to do everything himself, if it worked then it will be spectacular but it’s like 1 out of 20 times. He rarely pass or too slow to pass regardless how skillful he is, he will make it harder for the team to play well.
We love to see spectacular dribbling from our own half and doing those solo run and then scoring wonderful goal, but that will cost us. it’s very rarely work and he is trying to do it so many times because the fans hoping to see that all the time. HBA got great potential but he needs to play like Silva or Nasri which will benefit the team more.

i think the chances of equaling our position of 2 years ago are slim.
That year we didnt play that well to be honest – ask most people and they were suprised at how high up we were in the league. We did however grind results out with stubburn defending , great goalkeeping, free of injuries, and at times some dubious decisions going our way, all of which you need to win – leagues , cups , whatever , all contributed to that 5th placing. Can we have that kind of run in this season ? unlikely. 10th maybe 8th at best

The season we finished 5th we had Ba knocking goals in all over the place in the first part of the season then Cisse scoring for fun in the latter parts. Between them they almost got us into 5th although a few goals helped from others.

This season i feel we are playing better football, we have more players who i think can get us goals with the exception of our back 4.

I hope the chairman/manager/idiot (JFK) realise by bringing in 2/3 very good players we ‘could’ get European football and yes i also mean possibly CL.

The money generated would easily repay the outlay (if we got CL) but worse case scenario sell Cabs in the summer if we dont get CL to balance those ‘books’. IMO

Given that the league is a lot closer this year i think this bodes well. NUFC can take confidence from this.

I have come to accept that with ben arfa you will get mistakes, and mistakes that look worse than a simple misplaced pass as he looks greedy.

But if we want the special stuff he can do we need to accept his mistakes an faults. I guess we can ask him to improve (like tiote is still a good dm but cut out the daft yellow cards, or at least cut down a lot). So ben arfa needs to realise when to cross/pass and when the shot is the best option. He will never get it 100% right, nobody does, but he does need to get more of his decisions right.

Morning Markaccus – although you said it tounge in cheek it would maybe suit all parties if we sold Cabaye to PSG but then loaned him back until the end of the season. It would mean Cabaye gets game time before the WC, PSG get their man, we get the money to bring in replacements before he leaves – everybody is happy 🙂

    bills,
I noticed how you made light of our complete lack of ambition by pointing out Man U failures in Zaha and Fellani, maybe we should wallow in mid table mediocrity in case we buy a dud.

i think 9th would be lowest we can get this season but it’s a shame though because this means Pardew gets to keep his place at NUFC 🙁

    the season we finished fifth

    both Chelsea and Liverpool imploaded

    1 had AVB
    1had KD

    both did not work

we had huge amounts of luck

the only bad luck we had was pardew in charge

Regarding Cisse – why does it have to be Pardew’s fault that he has lost his confidence. Maybe you should blame Pardew for the misfiring of Torres, Jelavic, Benteke too – all hot shots a short time ago who have lost their way recently.
    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Bit of an odd comment as Pardew doesn’t manage Torres, Jelavic, Benteke but he did put Cisse as a winger for half a season and at West Ham played Tevez as a winger in a 13 game non-scoring run!

I dont think its a fair comparison to two years ago just because the first half of the season was good but it was the second half that was better. We won 7 games in a row or something in 2012

Mo Salah looks a very good player, we seem intent to tell the world that we haven’t completed a deal For Cabella!! Similarities are there Ed but no Cisse type of signing this window 14 games 13 goals will be tough to replicate

knows nothing about football, ask him who was up front along side cisse when he came, and he will tell you Jonas

how can you reason with with someone that has no idea what he is talking about

    its like ian toon,,

gets a lot of info from friends at the pub, rather than watching for himself

I don’t think it’s pardews fault cisse isn’t playing well, cisse needs to look at his own game? he runs off side 6/7 times a match when holding his run a split second would allow him to be through for a few more chances to bury.

I don’t think out style of playing deeper, which we go to a little often, helps him as he likes to be as close to goal as possible. If we play like we did against west ham in the first half I think he’d bang them in.

I posted a question on a WHU forum the other day after Catchy’s claim they would rather Sham over Pards got into a bit of a discussion and tbf none of them blamed Pardew over the Tevez/Mascherano thing and say it was heavily influenced by back room politics attitude and shady deals

We all accept that the fifth place finish was an over achievement however with the right sensible investment we could have capitalised on that and pushed on the same way we could have taken advantage of the five players been
bedded in and an upgrade on Shola brought in, unfortunately for us the current squad was deemed good enough for top ten so a line was drawn in the sand, just after next summers out goings Pardew will be given just enough ammo for that elusive top ten and the cycle will continue.

I think this analysis is interesting
Being a bit of a geek I have run a full set of results for the rest of the season for the top 8
The fourth and fifth spot in my humble opinion is wide open ,it’s a big ask but the season will now depend on how well teams in the top 8 do against each other
Iam not sure that ladrokes offering 80 to 1 on newcastle to finish top 4 have really understood how close the finish is going to be
Also the team finishing 4th is likley to have the lowest points total in the last ten years as the top 8 share points
It’s a long snot I accept but a good run in the next 5 games by any of the top 8 and it’s game on
