There is news in France that Sochaux are ready to sell their young striker Cedric Bakambu, who has been linked with Newcastle in the past, but with Luuk de Jong looking likely to arrive on Tyneside in a loan deal for the rest of the season, it would be surprising to us if Newcastle go after Bakambu, even if he is now available.
Cedric Bakambu – Sochaux 22 year-old striker
Sochaux lost 2-0 at home to Montpellier last weekend, and are in desperate trouble of being relegated – they are second bottom of the league and 10 points from safety, so why they would be wanting to sell their best players in January is not known.
The French daily L’Equipe is reporting they want to sell Bakambu to raise the money to strengthen the side in other positions – all before the January transfer window closes in a short 9 days time.
For that to be possible Sochaux would have to have their incoming transfer targets all lined up and sell Bakambu quickly, which seems unlikely.
But on the other hand things do start to move quickly at the end of any transfer window, with clubs forced into making decisions on their transfer targets, one way or the other, before time runs out.
It had been expected that the Sochaux striker would move to Rennes, but they have linked up with Swedish International striker Ola Toivonen, who was also a potential Newcastle target this month.
We would be very surprised if Newcastle go after the 22 year France U20 striker this month, even though he would be made available for a low €3M (£2.5M).
What do you think?

Have you seen the development to the academy and the plans? It’s just to increase medical facilities, fitness suite and some other building work.
All pitches and coaches all stay the same, so it is good, but can’t see it having a massive improvement to the squad or team. Even with better medical facilities w won’t see much benefit as surely players would currently just go to private hospitals for treatment before this was built, so everything will be the same.
I’d glad it’s being done, it is a good thing, but can expect to see a lot of difference on the pitch for it.

Comment #2Would be another gamble on a young player, but if we still loan de jong, then it can’t hurt to habe another attacking option.

Comment #3I see there are rumours about bust ups at swansea. Supposedly Laudrups training sessions under fire from players. Also concerns he is prioritising the wrong things at the cost of sliding down the table. He might leave in summer. Interesting

what do you think to buying a 20mil striker come the summer? It makes sense to me, they usually don’t drop in value much (look at cisse, still 9 mil after a bad 18months).
Surely, as goals win games, it’s worth the gamble.

Would love to see a 20 mil goal machine. Did you have a name or two in mind?

Comment #7We would need a couple of wingers though. Cisse WAS able to score without genuine wide players, but seems to have lost that ability now, and struggles to time his runs for the central passes.

in all honesty I think it’s Mike Ashley who you should be telling and not Markaccus.
I accept that Pardew splits opinion with ourselves on different sides of that opinion, but I do believe that most would agree that we have a side which is not far away from challenging the top 4 and with just a little bit of investment we could be serious challenger’s for the holy grail of that top 4, but whoever the managers is will need some help from Ashley, but sadly I can’t see that happening which is a great shame, so near yet so far away !

Well I think player for player we aren’t that much off liverpool with the exception of suarez…..his volume of goals, and the fact he gets them out of nothing at times is the level we need to push us up the table that extra 2/3 places.
Markaccus
I honestly don’t know. I didn’t know much of suarez before he came to liverpool, somebody like that. Negredo was 20 mil, saurez around 20 mil….just got for somebody like that, our coaches/scouts must be aware of these types around europe.

Comment #13With the Laudrup bust up at swansea maybe a lot of TOON fans can’t see the wood for trees and that we have a decent manager who the players like and work for and a decent set up – just have to be patient.

Comment #14Laudrup had a similar problem in his final seaon of Getafe!
Swansea fans seem to think his signings are poor and that last season they were riding high still on Rodgers systems for the first half of the season and than when laudrup had made his mark in the second half of last season they stopped winning! Footballs decent tho!
Personally would take pardew over laudrup or pocchetino! I did think poyet would be a fine manager though

Comment #15I firmly believe and really do hope Pardew is the man for the job.
Jay .. I too have always thought Poyet would be good in post as would Di Mateo
On that note lets get behind the lads we have .. We looking good out there and the air is better in the top half .. Proud to be a Northerner!
