Newcastle Target Europa League – Good News Bad News

The stand-in Newcastle captain Cheick Tiote is having  a very good season, and Cheick is in Abu Dhabi with the rest of the squad, and we suppose they are expected back on Tyneside at the end of the week.

Cheick Tiote – we can make Europa League

Newcastle will then play at Norwich City next Tuesday night and then we play Sunderland at home, and we’;re hoping we can even get two wins out of those games.

This is what Tiote said in the local press today:

“At the moment we are in a good position.” “We are happy because last year it was not the same.” “Now we can try to win every game.”

“If we keep trying that we can gain a Europa League place or even a Champions League place.” “It is going to be tough because there are a lot of good teams in this league.”

“What happened against Man City was disappointing but we did not give up.” “We did not get that goal but that is football.”

“The referee was the only one on the pitch who thought it was not a goal.” “Since then we have focused on the pitch.”

“We had lost four games, but winning against West Ham was massive to win the game.” “Everybody is focused.” “We are doing the right things again. Everybody is happy.”

“Before the Hammers game we were talking together.” “We said we had to come back in the right way. We will try to win every game.

“Everybody is focused and at West Ham we saw that it made the difference.”

Newcastle must try to get maximum points out of the next two game before we are away at Stamford Bridge, and there cannot be too much hope of getting anything out of that game.

Although two years ago we came away with that 2-0 win in the third last game of the season, with two great goals from Papiss Cisse that ensured we would finish about the Blues in the league.

Newcastle were even pushing for a top four spot, but we lost our last two games at home to Manchester City and away at Everton.

Being in the Europa League is good news and bad news – good news because we are back n Europe – bad news because the extra games could again hurt us in the Premier League.

Comments welcome.

Agree on manure as it stands wouldn’t take there defence or midfield, well maybe carrick
But would defo have De Gea, he’s a much better all round keeper where beyond shot stopping Krul hasn’t improved, he’s dominant enough in commanding his area and his distribution is awful and never looks comfortable when the ball gets played back to him

Like I said great shot stopper, but for me De Gea is the better all round keeper, for me he’s the same as Santon, there are the two squad places I feel for the money we’d get we could get an equal or better replacement

The thing with Haidara is… for one reason or another… he always seems to draw in a hard and potentially injury inflicting tackle… it’s as if the BPL has it in for him…

THe amount of dangerous tackles he has been in, compared to the amount of games he has started is phenomenal.

fair enough, i’ll agree with degea, he has improved massively during his time there.

with carrick yes and no, i think he is good but would come in for anita (not as defensive or offensive as tiote and cabaye respectively) and i like anita, so not fussed.

I think everton are in a difficult place too, they have a lot of talent but key players lukaku and barry are on loan. It’s good for them this year as loans are better than nothing but can they match that next year? who knows.

    Don’t get me wrong.

    That side also had Obertan.

Yes we did keep those clean sheets but he was like sore thumb

He did score 2 good goals against Mackems and Toffees.

But as LB he was poor

REPOST DUE TO ED’S ANNOYING MULTI POSTING PHILOSOPHY

IMO the full backs only leave holes when we play 4-4-2 and HBA exposed Debuchy too many times earlier on in the year because HBA’s defensive work is not what it should be.

Someone higher up in this string mentioned santon flies up the wing like he’s playing for barcelona leaving gaps behind but barcelona don’t play 4-4-2…they play 5 in the middle so if one full back flies up the wing then the remaining midfield 4 all move across to cover the supposed gap.

This however is beyond comprehension for Pardew and it frustrates the hell out of me he can’t find a way to accommodate one of the most talented players in the Premiership in our team.

Flying full backs can be accommodated in any team if the coach knows how to set up the team. We’re all moaning about santon and debuchy leaving holes behind them but it’s easily solved…just watch the teams with decent coaches and they all do the same thing with a five man midfield.

If the only cover for Debuchy in a 4-4-2 system is HBA then yes you’re asking for trouble, if the cover for Debuchy is HBA or a n other midfielder then I don’t see the problem.

Gouffy is better cover for Santon than HBA is for Debuchy in a 4-4-2 but why should we be reigning in the runs of Santon and Debuchy simply because Pardew chooses to play an outdated system.

This is all down to coaching…every successful team of the last decade plays the same system and it ain’t 4-4-2.

The only reason HBA is not in our team terrorising defences all over the country is because Pardew is a dinosaur.

Santon is a good player and we’ll miss him if he goes for sure. He’ll simply be replaced by another full back who won’t be allowed to attack just in case he leaves a hole.

    PATHETIC

Doesn’t matter which player currently playing for the TOON wanting Europe it won’t happen because Fatty doesn’t want European footy as he has already stated he is happy with top 10 finish providing we don’t qualify for the Europa League, no cups because of the latter the man is a TOOL and until we are rid of this leach we will always be in the same position talking about the same thing season upon season if only he had some AMBITION OR DESIRE to fullfil the TOONS potential we could then make wor dreams turn to reality.

    ASHLEY OUT!!!!!

    On Europa
We heard nothing but complaints from the club about the fact it was physically draining on the squad and the financial rewards weren’t great so what’s changed?
Having said that we played a squad that generally had 5-6 changes from the league squad and still made a QF so perhaps with the new ruling about the winners qualifying for CL clubs are taking the comp more seriously?

As tequila mentioned City play a version of 442 and utd won the league with a version of 442
    Also
“The only reason HBA is not in our team terrorising defences all over the country is because Pardew is a dinosaur.”

Sorry don’t buy this at all, for me there is something going on with HBA, requesting a leave of absence whilst the rest of the squad is on a training camp to improve conditioning is strange especially when he is supposed to be busting a gut to get into the team

TS…so who Will you win the midfield and have more Players in and around the box if you want a flat four at the back?

…they are not at much use then going forward there neither are two midfielder sitting deep behind Cabs if you want him there!

For me this is how the trouble starts. See Sparky’s post back on the last thread. Makes very much sense I think 🙂

it’s not 4-4-2…it’s a 4-4-1-1 with rooney dropping deep with both full backs given license to maraud up the wings and everyone in the team knowing what to do when they do so.

you play a rigid 4-4-2 with flying fullbacks then you’re asking for trouble

225mil apparently. Messi is reported to always be talking to zabeleta, aguero and toure about life at man city, the club, the fans, etc etc.

Barca are also planning a huge redevelopment of the nou camp, so would welcome the money.

City have former barca technical directors in so can imagine they are using all the influence and connections they have.

FFP or not i’d love the lad in the prem league. And if they spread the payments over 5 years only need to account for 45mil year

    Sparky,

What about inter when they win the champions league with 2 flying full backs?

If you have the players to suit the system, then it’s the right system.

Takes a good manager to get that tho…and of course ergo the right players!

Maybe ” having a very good season ” is pushing it a tad. Certainly better than finishing 16th though.

Would not miss Santon at all. Just don’t get the hype one little bit.

I guess we can’t part ex Marveaux and Obertan with a French club as presumably both earn way more here even if not selected.

So Zouma, Salah and Cabella now not happening and a non-scoring Dutch striker is the only possibility. Way to go JFK

I love flying full backs…but as you say the rest of team need to know their job as soon as one or both them fly forward.

I’d personally love to see a 5-4-1 formation with flying full backs now and again and the remaining back four move across when required.

All variations on a theme that would keep the opposition guessing but everyone who plays newcastle know what they’ll up against…never any surprises up Pardews sleeve.

Santon is only 23? I thought he was 26. That’s good news lol He still has time to adapt his game and learn that if you run forward then you have to run back to your position and defend! That is my main concern with Davide. That and the fact that he relies too heavily on his right foot to put crosses in always cutting back and losing our attacking momentum.

I would say anita and tiote win the physcial battle in midfield, cabaye also can help but from further up the pitch, pressing their defence or deeper midfielder.

I just think midfielders generally have more quality on the ball than defenders so would rather have them playing higher up attacking than covering for full backs.

Never seen Bakambu play! Rarely watch Sochaux play as they are rarely chosen for TV! Their players tend to create big reputations that aren’t always justified though, maiga, boudebouz examples of this! Think corchia may go that way too! Maybe its easier to play there as theres no pressure! Like the manager though, hes pretty suarve
