Newcastle Could Miss Out On Striker Target

We had mentioned earlier today why everything had gone so quiet on the Bafe Gomis front this month,  after we bid around £9M for the Lyon striker in August, and he’s now six months older – still scoring goals in France this season, and available for about one third of that summer fee, and with his contract running out at the end of June.

Bafe Gomis – to visit Inter Milan

And there’s news today for Sport Direct News that Alan Pardew is interested in bidding again for the 28 year-old, but why we haven’t bid for him in January seems strange – at least to us it does,.

But the news is that the French striker will be visiting Italy for talks with Inter Milan tomorrow, and the top Italian club may just snap him up at a bargain basement price.

And the news is that Inter Milan President Erick Thohir recently changed his mind on a swap deal for Juventus forward Mirko Vucinic in exchange for 27 year-old Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin, and now he’s after Gomis.

So it seems that unless Newcastle get in there and make a quick bid to get Gomis to Newcastle, he could well be playing his football in Italy before the end of the month.

And with Loic Remy, Shola Ameobi and Papiss Cisse all potentially leaving the club in the summer, we would have thought that getting one or two strikers in this month would have been a priority.

But it seems that Newcastle with Joe Kinnear in the lead, have other plans this month.

Comments welcome.

I’m not sold on this guy but if we were willing to pay 8mil in the summer why have we not moved to get him now.

We always seem to bid just below, no matter what the asking price is, our value is always 100k below

Won’t be too bothered if we don’t get him. The summer was the time but now I’d rather we go in for others.

    Was never expecting Salah either.

January 23. No sign of a signing. No prospect being spotted in Toon for a medical.
Worrying. We could get people in now that would be give the spring to settle and then come out strong next year. Much like the batch of players we got last January. And for good prices as well.

    Mistake in my opinion.

I haven’t posted in a long time because the blog was just littered with arguments and articles regarding players that “my son thinks we should sign…and his value on transfermarkt is x amount but I think we can get him for y amount”.
It seems nothing has really changed, just articles one day saying, “Newcastle keen on transfer target” and the next saying “No official word on transfer target, does this mean we don’t want him?”
How about we wait until there are concrete stories or actually think of ways in that the team can improve under Pardew eg. Debuchy is great at attacking down the wing, but he can’t tackle and concedes needless fouls/penalties all too often.
Anyway, just throwing ideas out there, I just don’t really see this blog as the NUFC Holy Grail anymore that’s all.

I don’t believe the club have had any interest in Gomis this window. Better value targets out there now and he’s never been keen. No big loss.

From last thread – with all due respect I do think that this is an open forum which allows us to air our views. My view is that a lot of these articles are pointless, that is not being disrespectful, merely an observation.

Inter Milan or Toon, not a hard choice for someone like Gomis.

He is too old for us.

I think DeJong was above him in our wishlist in the Summer and now that DeJong is available, I think we are focused on him. Besides, they probably did not want to deal with those agents again.

Just been on the NUST website and they have announced that they are going to be having elections to the board in the next few weeks. Think it is a very positive step in the right direction as far as they are concerned.

We need a more visible and pro-active Trust, hopefully fresh blood on the board will see that come to fruition.

I think there’s been a huge mis understanding, we all assumed that the DOF role for JFK was Director of Football when perhaps he was actually bought in as Director of Food, you know getting mike his starburst making sure his snacks fridge is always stocked etc

Why haven’t we bid for Gomis? Why haven’t we got De Jong sighed up? Why haven’t we firmed up Cabella yet? Why does Saleh fancy Chelski?

Why does Ashley persist with Kinnear, our DoF who must spend half a day trying to get his idle arse out his pit?

If ever there’s a waste of space and money, it’s him and he should be to be sacked

I heard the ibra/motta issue was due to doubts on cabayes ability?
Any deal with PSG for any player should include Adrian Rabiot! Currently injured but is going to be a huge player!
Hopefully we are looking at Lyons Yassine Benzia! And Lacazette actually from Lyon! Really surprised we wrren’t linked with N”tep!
That familiar feeling of the transfer window drawing to a close without any toon business is coming on
