Le Parisien French football commentator Julien Laurens has been talking to talkSPORT, and he has talked about Remy Cabella whom he describes as one of France’s best young players, and that Newcastle fans would just love him.
Remy Cabella – hasn’t got an agent
This is what he said to talkSPORT yesterday about the situation with Cabella:
“Newcastle are very keen on getting Remy Cabella, who is a young promising French player, very skillful and pacey and the Newcastle fans will love him, and he’s really keen on going there.”
“But the problem is he doesn’t really have an agent and a number of people have tried to jump in on the deal and it’s been annoying to both Montpellier and Newcastle and to the player himself.
“So Negotiations at the moment are at a standstill because so many people are trying to get in on the deal, but I still think it could happen, not now, he will stay at Montpellier for the season, but they could strike a deal for him now for a summer transfer.”
Laurens also talked about the bad mouthing of both Montpellier manager Rolland Courbis and President Louis Nicollin about Newcastle, but it doesn’t seem to have had much effect on the 23 year-old who seems keen, even very keen, to join Newcastle.
It seems from that interview with Laurens, that the chances of Joe Kinnear signing a deal now, for a summer transfer of the 23 year-old are good.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

I seem to remember similar inflated figures and disparaging remarks made a year ago from Montpellier when we were in the process of signing Yanga Mbiwa so I suppose you come to expect the ridiculous from them.

I’m really angry that a bunch of hearsay has turned out to not be fact. I’m also going to spout the most ridiculous conjecture and fantastical projections. Perhaps then bitch about stuff that was never going to happen not happening. Basically just talk shite and live in a world of make believe.

it’s not hearsay though, it is confirmed offers from clubs and players themselves.
Regardless of these players or others, the club should be doing more to get players in

Comment #86expatmag…I am just not really sure what the problem is here? We have contacted Montpellier about the availability of Cabella and they have let us talk to his agent(s)
You usually cannot talk to a player before the club have given you permission and we seem to have gone about this properly!
If they are hoping other clubs will come along and top the amount we have offered then fair enough, but then there problem is not with us as far as I am concerned 🙂

I’m merely speculating, perhaps they weren’t happy with the way we tracked M’biwa, and are not happy with the way we’ve dealt with the Cabella ‘transfer’. Like I said, speculation, but the over-riding point I am making is that if we keep playing hard-ball with clubs, and keep playing this cloak and dagger method in the market then we will find the list of people who do not want to do business with us ever growing.

We we’re told 30M had been spent which had us sixth highest spenders of last season, because we made the rules up for this particular table, only we are allowed to use wages and agents fees.
And people still defend them, they think we’re fuskin stupid.

Comment #90Ruddy…I am merely asking because I am not sure what we are doing wrong?
…the problems we seem to have are with agent and inflated egos – it seems clubs like Montpellier and Lille cannot grasp what their players/agents sees in Newcastle!

I believe the club president mentioned something along the lines that if they sold him prior to 30th June, they would be up for a lot of tax payments to the French government

Comment #102Montpellier will have employed agents to hawk Cabella around Europe. All of the tub thumping by them is to try a stoke up interest from other clubs. The agents that Montpellier have employed will be saying that clubs; X,Y&Z are interested. On top of that Montpellier are trying to get into Cabella’s head.
Newcastle have made an offer, Montpellier need to sell but want more and are using agents to try and get more.
Cabella is in the middle.

The last two windows, Pardew has been continually saying how nervous he is about losing Cabaye and as Ashley is a tough negotiator and his policy is to make a decent profit as shown by the summer scenario, I tend to think they want to cash in now, especially as Cabaye is now 28 with only 2 years left on his contract.

Comment #112Putting two & two together, De Jong is Remy’s replacement…………….nah just messing. Hope that’s not the case mind as everyone knows Shola is out of contract in the summer, so if De Jong comes in & Remy does off we are left with Cisse & De Jong. (By all means count Campbell if you like but he’s totally unproven) so I’d still like to see another striker come in.

I am a fan of The Mag. I know a number of the contributors and frequently bump into them at away games. Particularly one individual who provides amongst the best post match analysis around and I look out for.
I don’t suffer fools easily and have questioned the fact that it’s supposed to be a toon fanzine. Raising the football: politics and finance balance on an increasing number of occasions. Given that a number of the contributors I know agree with me then it was a point well received. As I reported the editor has confirmed to a number of the toon army that it is his intention that the emphasis be on football coverage going forward.
Rest assured I do not doubt your intentions – your a football man.
I hope your information last night proves to be correct as we need an addition of a few attacking players.

Not defending Ashley but don’t you think he deserves to take some of the money back considering he is owed 130 million quid and has saved the club millions in interest payments to the bank?

I don’t know writers or editors as you do, I just merely read and have friends who read, not every issue or article mind, just when I get chance.
Is anything being done to address this issue then? surely it must be if the editor agrees?
Either way, anything to read about our club is good for me, happy to see all angles, good or bad, pro or anti.

Obviously, if you are being genuine you would have no issue providing the name of the person/people whom you know. They would gladly confirm that they know you and your integrity would be restored.
However, given how you suggested that you were somehow in the know about Mark Jensen’s views on articles in The Mag/True Faith going forward – views which I personally know to be false – then it is obvious that you are talking nonsense.
You do realise that if further articles do not demonstrate a marked shift from ‘politics’ to football in upcoming editions of both fanzines, you will have once more been shown up for the charlatan you are.
