There are reports in the Mail today and other news sources, that Newcastle may be trying to do a permanent deal for Dutch International striker Luuk de Jong, and news this morning in the local press is that Newcastle hope to complete the deal for Luuk in the next few days, and certainly before the game at Norwich City on Tuesday night.
Luuk de Jong – close to joining Newcastle?
Luuk has not started a game in the Bundesliga all season, and he has hardly done well in Germany, so with that in mind surely Newcastle will want to take a look at the 23 year in the Premier League before agreeing to pay out £8.5M for the Dutch International, so a loan deal makes lots of sense.
£8.5M is the fee that’s rumored Newcastle would need to pay and not the £12M being touted in the Mail this morning – remember he was signed by the German club for £12.6M only eighteen months ago.
That’s when he preferred Germany to Newcastle, who had offered £10M for the striker, and at that time Luuk was still at FC Twente, and was Newcastle’s number one target in the summer of 2012.
This is what he has said to Goal today, and certainly he seems a bit fed up with not playing:
“I just want to play again. I would still love to play for Monchengladbach, but when that’s not possible I will look somewhere else.” “Against Bayern I had to warm up for the whole of the second half. It’s not funny anymore.”
“I still have fun during training sessions, but on match-days it’s hard for me. I spend more time warming up than actually playing.” “It’s hard for me to be important for the team. “I try to convince the coach, but I have been trying all season.”
“I played friendlies during the winter break, but everybody gets to play in those games.” “Monchengladbach knows that some clubs are interested in me. Those clubs have been informed, but there’s no offer for me yet.”
“Together with my dad and my agent, I spoke with the club in the last week of December.” “We have spoken several times now. I don’t know how big the chance is that I will leave this month. The Technical Director can probably say more about that.”
“I don’t know if the Premier League suits me more than the Bundesliga. I think I also showed I can compete in the Bundesliga.” “But the coach chooses other strikers at the moment. I understand it, because the team is doing very well. But it’s hard for me.”
Monchengladbach were beaten 2-0 at home by German Champions Bayern Munich last night, and Luuk didn’t even get on as a substitute in the game – and that’s what he’s referring to when he says he had to warm up for the whole of the second half – but didn’t get on.
And it’s interesting that Luuk says that Borussia Monchengladbach have not received any bid for him yet.
So what has Joe Kinnear been doing in Germany this week – we thought he was over there to clinch the loan signing of the Dutch International?

I would be among the happiest people on here if we signed, De Jong (with option to buy), Cabella and two first team surprises, but it’s got to a stage where if we manage to bring De Jong in on loan we’ll have people saying fair play to our Dof and it hasn’t been a bad window as Cabaye is still here, and if that French journalist on Total sport is to be believed that’s only because Cabaye doesn’t want to jeopardise his WC spot after a fee of £22M had been agreed (26M euros).

Comment #87Have you seen how stupid the Stevenage owners must be, they’ve put ” ADVERTISE YOUR BUSINESS HERE” signs up, they must have cost a few quid, I’m sure Mikey would have given them SD ones for free and local businesses would have been falling over themselves to buy the space.

For me it’s not even the failure to bring players in (yes there’s still some time)
He’s failing in every aspect of his role!
We’ve got fringe players like Talyor and Marv called upon purely during injury and suspension if at all, now yes from a fans perspective it’s good to have seasoned pros waiting in the wings, but we keep hearing about our strict financial parameters, 7th highest wage bill etc so surely part of his role is to ship out the dead wood who are earning higher wages and replace them with young players with potential that fall within our policy of low fee high future value?
And since he’s been here have we had player start discussing a new contract? Surely that’s also part of his role?
He’s failing in all aspects, this isn’t p*ssing Sunday league, this the PL when the hell is MA going to start making decisions worthy of a PL club ffs

I’m in no way shape or form defending JfK, but I think whoever is in that role is set up to fail as it is ultimately Ashley controlling the purse strings, Llambias was the fall guy before him and Ashley took the credit for the five signings last year, the only thing is even the loyal rat Llambias had enough in the end were as Joe knows exactly what’s expected of him and as he thinks us thick fuskers up here don’t know anything about football he doesn’t really care about what we think of his failings.

Comment #107Most of the time I see signs of decent defense and some kind of buildup in the midfield from us now. We still don’t create enough going forward and Remy is clearly finding it harder now as we have such a simple attack plan. Does Pardew have the smarts to change it up? It seems unlikely to me. We’ll end up with around 55 points this season which Ashley will be over the moon with as he’ll make lots of TV money and no Europa League to embarrass him.

Agree and Disagree
JFK was a woeful choice as a “trusted advisor” and think he’s spineless
Not a fan of Dekka at all but in all fairness he signed up most our current squad whilst getting a few of the lads signed to new contracts
JFK looks like he’d struggle to finalise a mobile phone contract at the moment!

I don’t think we’ll be able to off load Marv and Obertan as no mid table ligue one team will pay them anywhere near what they’re getting here, but even Llambias managed to get Xisco out on loan.

Comment #115lambias I was very anti towards when he was here at the time but now that the damage has already been done. I regret making all the bad remark about him, he might be a friend to Ashley but unlike this idiot we have now, lambias was determined to get the players through he would try his best to get an offer accepted, it was all down to Ashley allowing that money as to weather or not we would buy them.
Really the lambias out JFK in sums it up perfectly why I am always a pardew fan myself.
