There is news coming out of Germany that Newcastle’s Tim Krul is on the short-list of Borussia Monchengladbach, when their current 21 year-old goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen leaves the club in the summer to join Barcelona and replace the departing Victor Valdes.
Tim Krul – wanted by Borussia Monchengladbach
Marc-Andre ter Stegen has refused to sign a new contract at the German club, as he is being lined up by Spanish giants Barcelona, and this lad is a top up and coming goalkeeper in Germany.
He’s played for all the German youth sides from U16 through U21, and has three full caps for the full German National side, and is expected to challenge Germany number one goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for the goalkeeping position, and Manuel is probably the best goalkeeper in the world right now.
Borussia Monchengladbach Sporting Director Max Eberl has resigned himself to losing his top young goalkeeper in the summer, when his contract runs out:
“Marc has informed us that he won’t accept our offer and therefore will not extend his contract with us.” “It’s a great shame from our point of view and we must accept it.” “We suspect that he will join the club about which there has been a lot of speculation.”
That club around which there has been speculation is Barcelona.
Tim Krul is always being linked with other top clubs these days, so it;s not too surprising that Borussia would be interested, and AC Milan are also said to be keeping tabs on the 25 year-old Newcastle goalkeeper, since they will need a new number one in the summer also.
But we know the score at Newcastle – if a club comes in and meets Mike Ashley’s (high) valuation of any player at the club – they will be sold.
It’s really as simple as that, and maybe a £15M bid would be what would be required for Newcastle to sell Tim in the summer.
And maybe that’s why Newcastle are being linked with a number of goalkeepers over the last six months or so?
