Cisse Leaving Newcastle In January A Big Gamble

9:48 am, Sunday, January 26th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 137 Comments

The Chronicle is reporting today that Papiss Cisse could be leaving Newcastle this week – with a number of clubs interested in taking the striker immediately.

papiss cisse cardiff

Papiss Cisse – could leave this week :(

We had reported earlier today that a number of strikers could leave Newcastle in the summer, but we didn’t expect any to leave in January – because what would happen if for instance Loic Remy gets injured?

Newcastle turned down a £4M bid from Trabzonspor for Cisse a few days ago, but news reports in Turkey suggest the club are ready to increase their offer for the Newcastle striker.

The Chronicle is reporting that a fee of over £6M would be good enough to get the deal done, but apparently there is a release clause in his contract, and that fee would have to be met.

And since that release clause would have been inserted two years ago when Papiss was signed, we assume it’s at least the £9M we paid for him from SC Freiburg.

But we think it would be premature to let Cisse go this week, and he is suffering from a lack of confidence and we should probably wait until Newcastle know what will happen to Loic Remy, before we sell any strikers in January.

It would be a big gamble if Papiss Cisse is sold this week, and we hope it doesn’t happen.

For the record, Papiss has played 79 times for Newcastle over the last two years and scored 29 goals.

What do you think?

this post is once again absolute nonsense spouted by an absolute trout of a blog host.

“The Daily Star is reporting the striker has a buy-out clause in his Newcastle contract, which is likely for around £10M, and that could be triggered by a club this summer.”

yea lets include a buy-out clause for the same price he was purchased for

He’s not really doing it for us at the minute but a couple of injuries up top and he will have to play regardless of form, we can’t let him go unless we have somebody able to step up.

If we are looking to let players go it should be the likes of marv, obertan, and others like that who rarely play or when they do have no impact.

I’d rather an 18 year old kid come on and be given a go instead of obertan.

  • 3 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 26, 2014 at 9:52 AM

Maybe he’ll get proper service at other clubs. If that happens, I’m sure the goals will flow once more. No more playing as a second right back.

  • 4 Dannyo // Jan 26, 2014 at 9:52 AM

It’s only a risk if we don’t get a replacement. De Jong certainly wouldn’t be any worse.

you don’t need to read the blog if you don’t like it, if you’re just hear for the comments then the article doesn’t matter…either way we have a free forum to chat on and discuss everything to do with the club.

I think with some lads like obertan it’s best to cut losses nw and offer him to clubs on a free.

every year he sits here it costs us 1mil in wages, so best to just offload

Yeh I get your point, people learn other languages out of necessity most of the time, some learn for interest but in general it’s to compete in a global market which english dominates thanks to years of colonisation and USA being a huge world power the past 100 or so years.

I still think it could be taught so much better in schools if it wasn’t test based, a GCSE in german/french/spanish means little as all you learn are phrases to pass a test and not a working use of the language….be much better if it was taught in different way and engaged people more with it.

  • 12 Tsunki // Jan 26, 2014 at 9:59 AM

I know it’s old news but huzzah the bairns good win and a sign that the academy is getting a head of steam up. Perhaps in a couple of years we won’t need do many French fishing trips?

  • 13 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:00 AM

On football I fancy us down at norwich, we have more away than home wins so I have plenty of confidence in the side.

We just need to keep pressing the full 90, we won’t dominate the full 90, but we can’t just concede the whole of the second half. I also want to see anita given 90 mins, we always seem to struggle when he goes off.

  • 15 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:02 AM

    I can’t believe for a minute there’s a 9M buy out clause, shat if he was banging in 25 a season ????
I don’t think it’s a simple as just giving him away, I’m sure they would have paid Xisco to go, after Obertans disastrous time here I bet there’s not a club in the world willing to pay him even half what we are and he’s got every right to see out his contract and go somewhere on a free.

  • 16 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:04 AM

My uncle gets to a lot of 18s games, his grandson plays very young junior level for newcastle (he’s 8/9 year old), left sunderland to go to the toon…but he was telling me only a foreign midfielder (people here told me kemen) was a stand out, the rest looked good just nothing special.

Hopefully that;s just because kemen was so good he made the other good lads look average. Either way it will be good if we can start bringing them into the fold like southampton do so we don’t need poor players to be back up, we can rely on the kids to step in and fill gaps.

  • 17 sparky55 // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:04 AM

not much of a gamble in my book but well done again ED…you don’t care if your headlines are complete bollox or not…you just want to provoke responses which is what you do best.

Anyway…back to the purpose of the thread…where’s the gamble in getting 60k off your books for a player who isn’t playing and is obviously very unhappy.

You know when a footballer is unhappy because the girlfriend always get the brunt of the players frustration. You don’t kick out out a bird like Cisse’s ex unless you’re really unhappy and in a really bad place.

It’s been going on for so long now even if he got back in the team it wouldn’t be the same for the lad so he’s off for sure and he’ll be off this week at some point IMO.

    And no gamble whatsoever

  • 18 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:05 AM

    shat !!! What

  • 19 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:07 AM

yeh i know it’s difficult, why would obertan take a wage cut somewhere, but maybe he just wants to play, you never know. Some players do take pay cuts, not many though.

I think the club just worry they don’t have any kids who can take the spot, so until better players come in the likes of obertan are needed as back up.

  • 20 bishopblaize // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:07 AM

I personally think it’s time for him to move on, as we as a club cant be gambling with time anymore when results are given requirement!

I have to replace staff in my work when targets and general job descriptions ain’t being met.

It’s a shame but can be costly in many areas (and for NUFC it’s more about the goals and points)

We need to be making all right moves with little error if we to compete at the level we did in the Nineties.

  • 21 Blofal // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:08 AM

At this rate it wouldn’t surprise me if we have to recall Campbell.

We haven’t got the talent to play a false 9… we need strikers.. sign some FFS! And not just one either!

  • 22 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:09 AM

I’d get rid if the offer came in even close to 6mil. The problem is I’d rather have cisse than nobody and an injury or two could mean he’d be needed to start games for us.

  • 25 Blofal // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:10 AM

If Cisse starts regularly I think he will start scoring again. We just have to play a style that suits him.

He could have had a couple of goals this season but Remy wouldn’t pass.

  • 26 sparky55 // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:12 AM

we don’t need cover…we’re safe in the league, we have no aspirations to win anything so Ashleys plan working a treat. We have til next August to get 2 replacements for Remy and Cisse and looks like De jong is coming soon anyway.

There is no inherent risk in getting rid of Cisse without a replacement before the summer…none at all

  • 27 bollance // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:14 AM

Lads, Jeff does not realise that he unites the blog in support our legendary host.

  • 28 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:14 AM

the problem is do we change the set up just for a guy who may or may not start scoring?

For me, the way we played at west ham, with cabaye advanced and sissoko running in behind the fullbacks, getting to the byline and crossing, cisse would have chances to score, it would then be up to him to take them.

I think in the past cisse’s runs (which usually end up offside) have been a lot more successful when cabaye was right behind him (or marv), when deeper it just takes that split second longer to pick the pass.

  • 29 Jeff from Benwell // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:16 AM

I now see why Cabayes price has gone up to 35m.
If we can. get Clement Grenier ,Remy Caballa ,and Luuk de Jong in exchange for him it will be a brilliant piece of business , almost on a par with the Carroll coup

  • 30 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:16 AM

there is a risk as the club don’t seem to rush and buying, only if deal is right, so could end up losing cisse now, remy not staying, shola going and us just having gouff in the summer and needing to buy 2/3 forwards in the summer which will never happen.

  • 31 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:18 AM

I think Cisse asked for a new deal after finishing top scorer last season, the hierarchy said he didn’t deserve one on last seasons return, he said well if you didn’t play me on the wing and had of bought some decent players at the start of the season I would have bagged twenty, JfK laughed at him after a conversation wigh Mikey and started calling him Cissy every time he saw him, hence his trying to force a move.

  • 32 bollance // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:23 AM

ST is the hardest position for us to buy. Bigger transfer fee = bigger risk. I think cisse despite being on fire when he came has represent a mistake, a costly mistake. We are now cautious and rightly so. Remy on-loan and wanting De Jong on loan show we don’t want to make that mistake again. Try before you buy. Another innovative policy from the club.

  • 33 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:25 AM

If we were in the same position as last year Gomis and De Jong would be here by now.

  • 35 Ian Toon // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:27 AM

Transfer- Dan Barlaser has been with the toon since he was nine.
He’s just 17 and not yet a regular starter with the under 18′s but
he’s one to watch. Tall, rangy 6′ full of running and tricky, right
sided midfielder/ winger. He went to Charles Thorp and they
    rate him highly.

  • 36 bollance // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:27 AM

Do u mean having lots of injuries?

I know u don’t but this time last year it was a massive factor and big difference to this year.

  • 37 1949BH PROUDTOBEAGEORDIE // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:27 AM

nice to read a match report on man u official site saying we adapted to conditions better ,played freeflowing football, and deserved to win, especially after last years 1-7 and 3-0 defeats to them. last season we put out very young sides in u 18 as players were required for u21 side . this year we are benifiting from the players being older and more experienced. hope we keep up the french scouting trips at youth level as kemen seems a good buy.think armstrong who is in the eng u17 squad for two games this week must be the best prospect as a striker since i have followed reserves and juniors,50 years plus.

  • 38 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:28 AM

I’m not sure if Cisse was a costly mistske he’s a proven goalscorer everywhere he’s been, I just think he’s been managed poorly, Pardew alliwing himself to be manipulated by Ba last season was pure weakness.

  • 39 bollance // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:28 AM

    He barely gets a game??

  • 40 Jeff from Benwell // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:28 AM

    Does Cissy = Muslim Hypocrite
Refusing to wear the WONGA logo and being spotted late night in Casinos – seems it is not just the offside rule that he constantly breaks.

  • 41 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:31 AM

A massive factor last season was going into a European campaign five players short of a capable squad.

  • 42 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:31 AM

I beg to differ, I think striker is the lowest risk place to fill. Cisse cost us 9mil, had a good 14 games and then the past 18 months his goals have been few and far between. We still got offered 9mil of a middle eastern club for him a couple weeks ago.

Strikers do cost more, but like classic cars hold their value very well for the most part (same with jelevic at everton, same story as cisse).

Unless you go stupid like liverpool did with carroll, you are unlikely to come undone. They also have the potential to make you the most money too, either from sale or getting goals.

look how much suarez is going for liverpool, cost 20mil and lifting the team 2/3 places in the league alone

  • 43 bollance // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:32 AM

Don’t count your chickens. We have had many eng youth international strikers who have not made it. Not even close to making it in the team.

You have a point. Ba was all about playing for a move to a bigger club. You probably notice that when they played up top together Ba never passed it to Cisse.

  • 44 bollance // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:33 AM

    Risk = transfer fee

  • 45 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:35 AM

You will know about the kids more than I do, have read and heard good things on armstrong. He is better than campbell was at that age? Campbell got the goals and was touted as a big star for the future, but not seen him play much senior football, only kids stuff.

  • 46 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:36 AM

it’s not a risk though….you usually get most of that fee back even if the player struggles. Everton made a 1.5mil profit on jelevic.

Providing you don’t pay carroll money for an average guy who has had a good 6months, and you buy somebody who has done it for 2/3/4 years then you nearly always have people who will take him if he struggles as they know he has done it in the past.

  • 47 bollance // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:38 AM

The way I think we are operating is building a squad which appreciates in value. Therefore the fact that we will only claw back his transfer fee is as good as a loss for us.

  • 48 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:45 AM

It well be considered a loss by the lunatics running the club but if we get our money back on Cisse, on current form and his personal situation I’d call it very good business.

  • 49 Ian Toon // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:45 AM

He was 17 this month and has 10 appearances and 3 sub.
Nothing’s certain but he could be a player.

  • 50 1949BH PROUDTOBEAGEORDIE // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:46 AM

bollance at 43 please name any ncle youth international who scored more goals for his country than games played .also name one who was top scorer for the reserves at 16. i think the answer apart from armstrong is none.although nothing is guaranteed he has abetter chance of making the grade than anyone previous.

  • 51 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:47 AM

    I never knew that.

  • 52 bollance // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:47 AM

Young players were expect to come through. They didn’t and that is reflected in us only having one player in the championship on loan who is now struggling to get in their team.

  • 53 Harley // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:47 AM

I’m of the opinion that if we move out cisse, Jonas, obertan and marveaux this window and replace them with de Jong, gomis and cabella, we’ll be massively stronger.

Also shouldn’t cost too much and probably cut the wage bill.

I know not everyone agreed on cisse but I honestly think he’s had it here. He’s been awful for a long time now. Sometimes it’s better just to move on.

  • 54 bollance // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:49 AM

Agreed, his chances of making are better than most. There is little more which will make me happier then see him come through. Good luck to the lad

  • 55 thepict // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:49 AM

Only NUFC would sell a player without having his replacement in situ.

  • 56 bobby mango // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:49 AM

If Remy was injured if rather have Shola or Gouffran aging through the middle.
Cisse was great when he arrived but even then all he did was stick the ball in the net. Great but nothing else.
    Now he doesn’t do that.

I’d probably even have young Campbell ahead of him if needed.

Bottom line is I don’t think it’s a gamble to let him go.

  • 57 Ian Toon // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:52 AM

A Young academy players stats prove nothing. A players development and the dedication and desire to do well count far more.

    13 from 14 excuse me!

  • 58 sparky55 // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:54 AM

I agree completely…last year was a knee jerk reaction to the possibility of going down…no such fear this year so no such urgency.

I don’t think anything will happen this year unless they receive a bid for cabs that they’re happy with. if not, nothing changes and no-one goes unless of course someone fancies Obertan!

  • 59 bollance // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:54 AM

  • 60 theartfuldodger // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:54 AM

Even if we sell cabaye for 35m and debuchy for 15m and Krul for 20m we will still be after bargain deals targetting clubs in a financial mess and making low offers.

  • 61 toonbrother // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:54 AM

Cisse has been scoring goals all his career. No doubt in my mind he’ll be back to his prolific self if he gets a good run of games. The problem is his lack of versatility. Cisse only fits certain systems and I dont think he is a great enough player to dictate the system we play.

  • 62 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2014 at 10:55 AM

ts at 45 imo at the same age i would rate armstrong very slightly ahead as he is more experienced. campbell does not score as many but is more bellamy style. armstrong scores more hits the ball quick and hard and is quite good tecknically.

This might mean hba is next. As i mentioned last week my mate who i believe, saw jfk at jesmond dene house ladt weekend where he mentioned that none of the players like hba or cisse, and both he and pards wanted rid of the pair. I assume because they are lazy and knowing jfk’s track record i do wonder if the sissy comment was a mistake. Since i posted that rumours have grown that both might exit. He also mentioned de jong coming but thats hardly news. To be honest i could see why both could annoy teammates in a team where you try and work as an efficient unit so seems to fit and if thats the case then maybe for the best. Cisse not a loss imo if can be replaced. HBA would be a shame but its a miracle pards has kept him sweet this long really as he clearly has an ego and is a selfish, if wonderful talent.

  • 67 yo-yo // Jan 26, 2014 at 11:17 AM

    Jeff Still trolling then ?

Leaving Luuk out of the equation….If we sold Cabaye for £23m and got Cabella and Grenier from the funds we’d be up on the deal once both players had settled in – and in terms of future values.

That we are looking at such players means we are clearly intending into a more ball playing / passing side.

All it needs now is courage and belief from the club owner instead of lack of commitment and vacillation… oh and Joke doing the negotiations..

  • 68 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 11:17 AM

cheers, i only see the odd game for the kids, not many as not in the city and a good 40min drive.

I’d say that until we see them in senior football we don’t know, but the signs do look good, campbell is doing quite well up scotland and surely with 3months hard training over the summer he can really increase his strength for even more pace and bit more presence on the ball.

  • 69 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 11:18 AM

Also campbell would benefit from a few sessions with ben arfa, knowing how to position his body to shield the ball or draw the foul if his pace can’t get him away.

  • 70 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 11:20 AM

players liek shearer and rooney who do that are very very special though….very few like that and usually get a chance through not just their ability but the situation at the club they are at.

some managers like chucking kids in, other’s prefer them to develop their game more before putting them in.

  • 71 jasper // Jan 26, 2014 at 11:21 AM

We seem to be cursed with greedy strikers who are interested only in getting their own name on the scoresheet in order to increase the likelihood of a better contract at another team,
Ba did it to Cisse last season and Remy has been doing it to Gouffran this.
Interesting to note that Suarez and Sturridge were both regarded as selfish at one stage but are now playing for each other and are all the more effective for it.
Despite the current fashion fir a single striker and flood the midfield many of the successful teams have employed such pairings, Shearer with Sutton at Blackburn, and then with Sir Les at NUFC, MU with Cole and Yorke, etc.
Having said this I don’t think that Cisse has it in him to look for a partner rather than go for goal himself. So if get is to be effective he needs a partner who feeds him, as Beardsley did with both Shearer and Linker. Can’t see any of our current squad doing ths.

  • 72 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 11:25 AM

all striker work better with a partner, whether it’s another forward or a midfielder just behind them….we don’t always get that, but we are currently with cabaye and remy.

    you have ozil-giroud, rooney-rvp, aguero-negredo, adebeyor-soldado, lukaku-barkley

always need two up top whether tradition two forwards or an attacking mid, just offers other options and players who run for each other to make space

If they manage to get rid of Cisse they’ll probably move for De Jong. It’s a farce really.

A striker with a couple of AMs feeding them and playing off passes is as good a partnership as two strikers. Be interested to see Cabella and Grenier playing behind a quick striker – any decent Toon striker will do who is not too greedy.

I’m sure Mata will work out a great parnership with Shrek and that is part of Moyes thinking

Think It was always very unlikely that we would sign anybody in this window Jail. The target was top ten and we’re there already. Even though two-three signings could push us on a bit. The great leader couldn’t be arsed with finishing in the europa league spots.

Next season should be fun though. Remy back to Qpr, Strollers contract up and Cisse likely to leave. Can anybody honestly see us signing three strikers ? nope me neither.

Hey dint let Shola leave. Thers no chance theyl let cisse go.

  • 102 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 12:24 PM

I was thinking the other day about our players and the building process going on. This is the line up and bench from our last game and pardew’s first game.

    first last

    krul krul
    enrique santon
    campbell willo
    taylor taylor
    simpson mbiwa
    nolan anita
    barton sissoko
    jonas gouff
    tiote tiote
    carroll cabaye
    shola remy

definite improvement there for me, we missing debuchy, colo from there too…not sure who was missing from that first game for pardew though, colo is missing for one.

when he bought the club we had a pretty poor squad too, either poor players or people past their best…..given, carr, solano, emre, luque, dyer, martins, owen, duff, harper, n’zogbia, onyewu, milner, parker, moore, bramble, sibierski, clark, butt, shola, srnicek, ramage, taylor, edgar, huntington, babayaro, bernard, pattison, o’brien, carroll, krul, troisi, forster

So I think in term of the team, if anything we are better, he has bought better players, but i guess the standard of players across the board in the prem league has gone up with most teams, especially those outside your usual top 4 so hard to say exatctly.

I’m still not sure if we are building as if we were we should be bringing in 1/2 a window minimum really to take us forward and moving on the dead wood or letting their contracts run down.

  • 103 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 12:29 PM

I think if ashley was serious about taking the club forward on a budget there is a lot more he could and should be doing.

I’d say we need to expand out scouting network outside of france and holland (cisse and now de jong from germany were originally spotted in france and holland).

We need to spend a lot more time and effort in looking around eastern european clubs like the germans do, look around spanish leagues, even south america (although work permits are hard for uncapped players who’d be cheap).

We need to make sure the kids get the very best set up possible and get academy 1 status.

We also need to start taking a bit more of a gamble, not spend 100mil but maybe do what spurs did with bale or arsenal with walcott, 10 mil for good kid.

We also need to be prepared to sometimes but the team before the balance sheet, especially when looking at such small figures that hold up deals in some cases.

  • 104 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2014 at 12:30 PM

I think your missing my point, without a doubt we keep find cheap quality players but as for pushing the squad on, since finising fifth it seems that how we’re doing at the time dictates our transfer policy, finish fifth we buy Anita, almost relegated buy five good players, on course for top ten finish doesn’t look like we’ll buy anyone, as I said earlier if we were on the wrong side of that massive gap under the top ten I don’t doubt Gomis and De Jong would already be here.

  • 105 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 12:38 PM

Yeh fair enough, it does appear to be that way. I’ve said that myself this past couple weeks.

I know it’s good to be a prem side and have decent players and play some decent stuff at times, it’s just a shame to have almost reach our plateau and we don’t want to kick on up the next hill.

i’m sure tons of clubs would love to be in out situation but for a club as big as ours and with such loyal support, home and away, it’s not good to see us not pushing for cup or to try and continue progression.

  • 106 theartfuldodger // Jan 26, 2014 at 12:42 PM

Nolan,Barton and Jonas in their prime are comparable to , if not better than, Anita,Sissoko and Gouffran.
As players age they need to be replaced. Thers no option.

  • 107 Graeme // Jan 26, 2014 at 12:44 PM

Jail, I think you are spot on there mate. We are comfortable in the league and only need a few points to ensure security in the League which is Priority One. Anything above 11th is icing on the cake.

They (MA) don’t see any reason why we need to spend to have a good season – IN THEIR OPINION. We have met the targets and they are happy. If they slide a few places, say 11th or 12th it wont cost them very much in the grand scheme of things and they will save on the “Bonus Scheme” to alleviate some of their pain!!

Oh what a joy it is supporting NUFC with these idjits in charge!!

I’me fully of the opinion that we should do some business now. I even thought in the summer maybe we were waiting for january as we got so many bargains last year that might be the new window we do business in then just add 1 or 2 in the summer on loan/free.

But come this summer, if we don’t spend, and not just 5 mil or a loan, some serious money as we will have an extra 20/30 to play with then I have no interest in ever getting onside with Ashley.

A few good buys now would maybe make me re think.

  • 119 Himanshu Dhingra // Jan 26, 2014 at 1:10 PM

That should be the case but I cannot see it.

Pardew said it could be till the last week of the window before we buy anyone. That bought him time.

Now He thinks other clubs will get desperate. he is a fool

If we don’t get de Jong this window, you think Stoke or Norwich will not go for him. of course we can’t compete with them.

  • 120 Oleg G // Jan 26, 2014 at 1:12 PM

Looking at our next 9 games. 20-22 points will be great! Even 18 points will be good in my opinion.

Under 16 is bad. We will be playing the likes of Fulham, C. Palace, Sunderland, Norwich. Also A. Vila and Hull are there.

The difficult games are Everton, Chelsea And Spurs. In these games between 1 to 3 points will be ok if we will get all points against the other teams. So it is like 6 wins, 1 draw, 2 loses. Or 5 wins, 3 draws, 1 lose.
Or another option is, we win At home against Everton and the other teams, which will be a massive 15 points at home, and get another 6 on the road.

But anything lower than 5 wins out of those 9 games, will be bad.

My prediction is, and no surprised here I think:

    Norwich – W
    Sunderland – W
    Chelsea – L
    Spurs – D
    Villa – W
    Hull – D
    Everton – D
    Fullham – W
    C. Palace – W

    18 points.

From the other 7 games of the season, I think it will be less % of points out of the possible 21. Maybe 10-12 points. Man U will be in form, Liverpool too. Arsenal. Cardiff, Swansea, Stoke and S’ton are the teams to beat. 10-12 points there.

Of course I expect us to win every time. But this is a realistic look from what I think we have in this team.

28-30 points in the 16 games left. Puts us to 64-66 points. Too optimistic even?

We have a rate of 54% success this season.
The 28-30 points is a bit above that.
54% out of 16 games would be 26 points actually. So I guess I am a bit optimistic than :)

I don’t get all the Cisse bashers. The guy has proven he can score goals in this league,in a team that plays to his strength. We don’t now so that’s not his fault. Then people praise no.23 who couldn’t hit a coo’s arse with a banjo.Who has not scored in the league for over a year.Never scored 10 in the premier league in a season. Then saying let’s get De Jong who has not played in this league yet,and who hasn’t scored many in Germany either.23 gives more fouls away than any forward we have, nothing mentioned about that.Ok he isn’t offside much now as he has no pace.Cisse makes runs and the ball never gets played to him.Surely that would sicken many on here.Remy doesn’t want to sign so we need to get it sorted now.To me Cisse had a falling out with chuckle brothers and hence benching him.I honestly can’t see De Jong scoring many for us the way we now play.

  • 129 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 1:24 PM

why do you refer to shola by his number?

whether it’s cisse’s fault or not he doesn’t play well in this system, why change it just for him. He has an awful touch, can’t see a pass, can’t time a run…..he’s no longer up to it in my opinion.

Yes we don’t suit him, but he should be able to adapt and at least be more of a threat than he currently is.

  • 131 Transfer Sage // Jan 26, 2014 at 1:31 PM

For me cisse is an average striker and a terrible footballer. The premier league requires all players to do more than one thing now, if they want to be successful.

All cisse offers is goals, he doesn’t hold the ball, doesn’t run the channels, can’t pick a pass, other than finish he has nothing else to give.

I think playing to his strengths would get us goals, but why change the team for him.

  • 132 jazzyp // Jan 26, 2014 at 1:33 PM

Cisse-Remy-Shola-Cabs-Colo ?? all gone for the summer and yet no replacements even looking like they are coming in. Things are not looking so rosy now gentlemen are they !!

  • 133 laurits90 // Jan 26, 2014 at 1:39 PM

what about getting Campbell back from loan, and drill him in a delivery role alongside cisse?

  • 134 Tsunki // Jan 26, 2014 at 1:40 PM

Lets just get our heads straight on the issue of those like jeff and count (who are probably the same person anyway) they arent actually Toon fans, as they would not bother even visiting a site they didnt like, there are many other Toon blog sites to go to. They are just bored fans from other clubs who are trolling. Jeff, for instance is actually a Manure fan, as he inadvertently let slip a couple fo weeks ago. Its not a question of free speech, they are just unwelcome nuisance makers.

It seems that Cisse has had every ounce of fans patience used up on him, also I expect Remy will get the same treatment as he angles inevitably for a better payoff and especially if his goal haul continues in mediocre vein. I personally think he is one in a steady line of players who will succumb to being Pardewed, in the sense that Alan builds a team accordng to a simple anad unyielding construct, a predominantly defensive one even in attack, where the midfielders are suppoed to have one eye on defense and consequently provide little chances for conventional strikers to feed off. Opportunist poachers like Cisse have nothing to feed off, technical players are frowned upon (like HBA) because their risk-taking and attacking instinctive play have no ‘failsafe’ built in when an inevitable percentage of their attempts to break through and change the game fail. They are square pegs in Alans round-holed board. A change of manager and a change of style. I would prefer he got some tech advice but he’s not that sort of guy. We’ve got what we paid for.

  • 135 hadthetshirt // Jan 26, 2014 at 1:42 PM

    What do goals do?Win matches.
Cisse cannot score on the bench or be up to it.Why keep playing Remy when he’s leaving, unless Cisse is off too.
He has a good goal scoring record here, and 7 goals wrongly chalked off for offside,so should be better. It seems he is really disliked here for some strange reason.A toon number 9 scores goals and gets blasted.
Lukaku up for sale in summer, would be a better option than De Jong. Are we going to change style to suit De Jong??

  • 136 Ian Toon // Jan 26, 2014 at 1:45 PM

bollance- Sorry I bowed out earlier because of the tight finish in the cricket.
    The kids/academy /under21′s:
The Europa was the acid test for the declared aim for self sufficiency within 5 years. The additional games together with a horrendous number of injuries gave those aspiring to increase their profile a real opportunity. Regrettably the kids were largely found wanting!

Consequently, Ashley had little option but to enter the transfer market in a meaningful way. I can only think of Dummett and fleetingly Bigirimana who really made tangible progress. Although it did confirm that Elliot is a good reserve keeper. Ferguson and Sami A have found their level below that of the PL. Gosling this season at Blackpool was in a rich vein of form in the Championship.

I personally feel we tend to big up the Geordie talent. Classic example is Saylor – there are still fans questioning why he isn’t an automatic on the team sheet. Armstrong does look a real prospect as he has pace and good technique.
