There is news in the Mirror today that Yohan Cabaye met with Newcastle manager Alan Pardew yesterday, and told him that he wanted to leave Newcastle to get Champions League football at Paris club PSG.
Yohan Cabaye in his last game for Newcastle at West Ham
Yohan can play in the knockout rounds of the Champions League since Newcastle have not qualified for Europe this season, and so Cabaye is not cup tied.
Things happened quickly yesterday and it was a bad sign for Newcastle fans when PSG Football Director Olivier Letang traveled to Newcastle to negotiate the deal, because he wouldn’t have traveled if it wasn’t fairly certain a deal could be reached – or had already been agreed.
If this is true than it’s the second time in six months that Cabaye has asked to leave the club, after he went on strike in August, when an £11M bid came in from Arsenal for the Frenchman.
Newcastle have again showed they are willing to sell their very best players for top dollar halfway through the season.
And Alan Pardew said today before an agreement was reached to sell the Frenchman that the Newcastle team revolves around Cabaye.
We wonder how Alan Pardew is feeling about all of this today – he cannot be happy.

Yes, but no deal yet. If Gourcuff went to Arsenal, I doubt Lyon would sell Grenier.

Comment #84So.. it’s either Grenier or Gourcuff will be sold. It’s a race between Arsenal and NUFC. I doubt Lyon will sell both their playmakers, if Gourcuff goes, I would rather see him playing for us than Arse.

Comment #85how can anyone have any simpathy for a spineless idiot, who proves he is only here for the money , no matter how little he gets paid compared to most others, it’s still like a lottery win for him,
he showed us that he lacks balls to say anything, he has shown us that lacks ambition in the way he treats the cups,
winners want to win everything by nature ,
what an example to wake up to, you wake up in the morning to go and train, only your not training for anything other than raising your own value,
feel sorry for pardew all you like , but the guy deserves to be shit on if he lets it happen,
no one has a gun at his head forcing him to stay , but he will come out and say it was out of my hands, it’s them above me, playing the sympathy card,
with his contract , he has a very strong hand, use it

Comment #87I said at the start of the window that if he’s going anyway sell him now and get replacements in as EL and CL are all but gone, with four days of the window left why not just hang on till the summer, unless he had threatened to invoke that buy out thing, what would have been the problem in bringing in a few beford he left/or didn’t leave like Everton done with Fellani. Joe says nobody is leaving, Pards says Cabaye will play against Norwich, is the twisted fusker taking the pi$$ out of us !!!

Comment #88I think Pardew will walk. But not now. He has definately enhanced his resume since joining us. He will stay as long as it makes him look better.
Approx in his 5th year if we are around 12th-15th, he will walk.

Comment #89I can perfectly understand Cabaye wanting to leave for Champions league football, but not sure PSG is the best option for him. Lots of competition in the squad there and he may find himself in a similar position to Ba found at Chelsea – just as much time on the bench as on the pitch.
Personally, if it is to be PSG I’d be demanding their young midfielder Rabiot as a part ex on top of the 19million being paid. This signing will force him down the pecking order, and he may be willing to take a chance on first team football surrounded by other french players. Still, that would be far too straight forward for NUFC.
On a replacement, even if we got Grenier/Cabella now, there is no guarantee either will settle into the premier league straight away or even at all. I doubt we will see a direct replacement come in this window. With the club trying to sell Cisse, Remy only on loan, HBA coming to the final year of his contract, Shola and others contracts expiring this summer coming up is looking like a huge summer for the club and where it wants to be.

I’ve always found you one of the most rational cool headed posters on here, what do you mean that this is going to be a huge summer, we know where the club want to be, hiring mid table managers and, can’t even describe JfK, the club keeps making statements of intent of it’s true ambition, why do some still think theres a master plan for success.

Comment #92so sick of reading how Marv is our forgotten saviour. If he was THAT good he wouldve had his game in one of the cups for sure. But he didnt, so what does that tell you? I actually feel sorry for Pards this morning after reading this article, what he mustve done to get Cabs to play and then in the manner he did play just to get nothing but a slap in the face for a second time. The shame is definetely on you Cabs for the way you go about your business, all talk of a players ambition aside, this stinks of complete selfishness. Remember Andy Carroll anyone? He did the same thing. PSG probably got the call from Cabs himself.

Comment #93Does anyone else think that if we dont get someone in that we should stick Ben Arfa in the role that Cabaye was recently given. It’s his chance. If he does not take it we can get rid of him and know we tried our best to bring out his English game

Comment #95Assuming cabaye was going to buy out his contract for 6m. The difference then is just 13m.
Isnt the drop in league position going to cause an overall loss ? Am I missing something ?

Losing the players that are likely to not be here next season will take us away from the mid table unless we bring in replacements. If Remy doesn’t sign (which I think most will agree it is unlikely) HBA will be sold or we lose him for free, the club are actively trying to offload Cisse according to reports in local rags and with Cabaye gone there isn’t a goalscorer amongst the squad or any real creativity.
So, what I mean by a huge summer is that other clubs will know we are desperate for firepower and prices will be inflated accordingly. The wonderful scouting network that we allegedly have and the fantastic transfer policy that some say we have will be pushed to its limits to get us ‘value’ or Ashley will have to break policy and pay over the odds.
If neither of those happens, then come this time next year we may be praying for mid table! Either that or Campbell and Armstrong need to improve exponentially over the next 6 months to solve our problem.

Comment #98Really think people are overreacting predicting relegation and hoof-ball.
He want CL football, we’re getting a top price.
A replacement will be bought at some point. If it’s not this season we’re in a very comfortable position (12 points above 10th place). We can afford to try HBA in that role, or Anita with Bigi filling in his position.
We might even get De Jong in as well.
I hate Ashley but have no qualms at all over this bit of business.

Comment #99It is 19.45 CET Tuesday 18th Feb 2014
BayArena in Leverkusen NordRhein Westfalen
Yohan Cabaye is about to make his CL debut.
The manager of Bayer , the ex Liverpool Finnish thug
Sammi Hyppia has schooled his team well.
Halfway thru the 1st half YC is sandwiched between the 2 Bayer fullbacks Kostas Stafylidis & Stefan Reinartz
All that can be heard is a plaintive French squeak.
Sacre bleu can it be so ?
Cabaye with ligament damage out of the PSG squad for 8 months and of course no trip to Brazil !!!!
Nasty I know but that is always how I view ex maggies.

Comment #106I thought we were going to wait until the end of the season. Cabs seemed happy to play until then.
Ashley is a complete tosser. He has done really well in stabilising the club financially but why sell our best player. Makes no sense in football terms. 19 mil it’s ben reported, I think he’s worth 30 mil.
I’m so pleased I can’t make the Sunderland game as they are getting stronger and we are weaker.
On average with Cabs we get 1.8 points per game, without 0.8. If we played out a full season like that we’d get 30 points.

Comment #108Bye bye yo hand loved your time here best of luck to you. However I will never forget going on strike to engineer a move . Fans who are defending him are letting hatred of MA get in the way. You can’t defend a player who dropped us in the shit, last year the going got tough and depression the excuse. However World Cup year no depression and playing superb when all is rosey. He wants to go let him go.
We always have and always will sell players unfortunately, if shearer wasn’t a Geordie he would’ve left to. So dramatic on here.
Ashley has to replace him I get that, and if he doesn’t I’ll be fuming, but you will never tear me away from supporting the 11 lads on the pitch.
We have tried throwing money at things and where did it get us nowhere, so we are no different now , and don’t say it was ambition coz our squad has better players now than it has been for many years.
Chin up lads don’t give up hope and please don’t stop supporting

I’ll never stop supporting, but there isn’t really any point anymore. We don’ want to win any cups as our players get tired for the league games where we want to finish mid table.
Can’t wait for next season. As a Toon fan you can’t even dream of doing well in cups or challenging because our leader doesn’t want that. Look at all the other Prem clubs, there owners at least have some ambition for their club.

In relation to cabaye I find it really strange if they have let him travel with the squad late afternoon yesterday. I also think that as pardew was taking his press conference yesterday talks were taking place about this transfer at sjp and he knew. It wouldn’t surprise me if the de Jong is confirmed today before the Norwich game to try and take the heat away. I am going to the game to night am not looking forward to this now or Saturday as I think the atmosphere will be really bad among our fans rightly o wrongly so I think this will have a massive impact on our players. Comment #116Meanwhile Joe Kinnear, Newcastle’s director of football, has insisted that no players will be leaving in January.
Midfielder Yohan Cabaye has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and – more recently – Paris St Germain, but Kinnear said: “I will not let any player leave Newcastle United in this transfer window.”
Remy off in the summer, Shola out of contract, HBA in his last year so will prob be sold, Colo gone
Summer is going to be painful
Many have said with these possible players going on the summer this window was bigger than many have credit for, no one in, Grenier/Cabella hardly falling over themselves to get here and 2 players shipped out
Oh aye we’re ambitious like

Comment #119I always found Cabaye a little over hyped to be honest, don’t get me wrong, he is a clever player that has his moments either scoring or unlock defenses but lets not get too carried away, I would not put him in the £20 Million category ever, his corner record is abysmal, every time we get a corner I know it will come to nothing and he’s not the type of player to make runs into the box like a Lampard, these days I think you need to have a Midfielder that will be a constant threat to the opposition by either beating players 1 vs 1 or making tricky runs into the box to make space for either themselves or thier team mates… I believe Benny should be given Cabaye’s role but leashed in a little cause he can be very lax with the ball sometimes, with some nurturing and half a season playing consistently in this role he could be twice the player cabaye was, he takes better corners too…
