Newcastle Miss Their Chances In 0-0 Draw – Remy Sent Off

Newcastle had enough chances in this game to have won the game fairly easily, and even at half time Newcastle should have been at least two goals up – and when you miss your chances you have nobody  else to blame but yourselves, although we didn’t have any luck either,  and hit both posts and the cross-bar.

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Norwich City v Newcastle United - Carrow Road

Moussa Sissoko in action tonight

And just to make things a little bit worse Loic Remy was sent off with Bradley Johnson after 81 minutes, as the two of them had a go at each other – so now Loic Remy will miss the next three games including the derby game against Sunderland on Saturday.

And we’ve only just seen Mathieu Debuchy return to the side so Newcastle are starting to shoot themselves in the foot.

Wonder who is going to score our goals in that game – and Luuk de Jong may be given a very early debut.

It hasn’t been a good last few days for Newcastle United.

Has to be Sissoko for me. Santon a close second followed by Arfa in third. Chris Foy wins MotM for the neutrals.

    Three things
    1. We dropped points today precisely because we sold Cabaye . Cabaye is not only our most creative player he is arguably our most clinical finisher at this point in time!

    2. Good to see Sammy Ameobi shutting up dumb fans who at one point rated Adam Campbell and Armstrong over him.

    3. Pardumb is an utter moron. That is all

I think Sissoko led by example tonight. I think the players were really determined but, were just unlucky.

Very unfortunate with Remy as well, just was well DeJong should be in by the weekend. Let’s hope he is better in England than Germany.

toonbrother, you have been sniffing glue.

We had many chances, woodwork 3 times, Ben Arfa blasts over the bard, good saves from the keeper. We should have been 3-o up at half time.

@toon1707: I’d hope both Newcastle and Norwich contest it. There’s no way it was a red card for both. Yellow at most.

We played well that first half ran out of steam it will take us a while to get used to playing without Cabaye but we played some lovely stuff Arfa still needs to learn when to pass as he was guilty of running into trouble and he needs to work on his finishing especially that tap in he had first half

Sissoko and him need to swap with Sissoko staying on the wing he is so much more effective there

Cant believe Remy got sent off hope Gouffran is back if we play like the first half we would blow Sunderland away as they are terrible like Norwich but if you dont finish your chances thats what happens

THAT’S COMPLETELY WRONG. MARVEAUX IS OUR MOST CREATIVE PLAYER AND LAST SEASON PROVED IT. WE NEED TO RECALL ABEID AS WERE AREN’T GOING TO SIGN A CABAYE REPLACEMENT. GOSLING ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH.

You have to say probabilities were that cabaye would have finished one of those chances.

That was a good performance tonight, just very unlucky. Norwich were crap but, still, we battered them in the first half.

20 shots and only 3 on target is an absolute disgrace! looks like the boys need a bit of shooting practice before the derby! apart from that i thought all the lads played well and all looked like they were out to prove that the team is just as strong without cabaye, great to see that they didn’t let their heads drop because of it!! If you don’t know how to be incisive in the final third without just taking pot shots from long range, it is a waste of time.

Apart from the usual underwhelming chance creation in the box, we played well. The players are of a very good quality, so this is no surprise.

However, playing well and still getting nil om the board, is again highlighting the lack of regular quality service going in.

Thump, it was one of those days.

Does that includes blocks? You have to say, Norwich did get some decent blocks in.

Cabaye may have scored one of those but so might have I! Talk about pots and F%$^ing pans!

Whoever keeps refering to Shola Ameobi as a Striker, please stop it.
He is not a Striker, He has NEVER been a Striker, He never, ever will be a Striker.

He’s a nice bloke who sometimes gets a bit luky and the ball goes in the net. He IS NOT and NEVER, EVER, will be a Striker. We have defenders who have scored more goal than bambi ffs.

Get him out of SJP as soon as the season ends, thanks Shola, Goodbye.

I thought Sammy had a good game, but I don’t think he has proved anything yet.

He proved he has pace and can run down his channel, I think we already knew that about him.

I thought we missed that extra quality and finishing cabaye brings but others stepped up.

sissoko had his best game for a while, ben arfa looked very good and made much better decisions than he had before, we controlled the first half and better finishing and a bit of luck could have seen us with a good lead.

sammy did very well, same as early season which makes me wonder why overran suddenly got ahead of him in the pecking order.

De jong, cabella and grenier must be bought now, not the summer. we need some quality in to offer more threat and give us good options on the bench

22 shots, 3 on target we desperately need to work on our bloody finishing!
Should of been 3-0 up at half time, we ended up desperately clinging on with 10 men for a 0-0 against a woeful relegation candidate, go figure

    441toonarmydownsouth // Jan 28, 2014 at 9:58 PM

    JP
Agree losing Cabaye didn’t cost us the game but massively disagree that we didn’t or won’t miss him that much
22 shots, 16 in the first half, 2nd half we ran out of ideas, everyone started playing for themselves and not one of those lads out of Anita Sissoko Benny Sammy have the vision or that little bit of spark to see that one run and play that one ball
So aye it didn’t cost us the match, poor finishing did, but ffs if people seriously think we’ll be fine without replacing the lad there heeds need a damn good shake

Thump, I’ve been well aware of it for a very long time, don’t worry. You can see it happening and what is lacking. High shot counts dazzle people though, without digging deeper to the root cause to ask why.

Having loads of attempts with few on target, sounds like how Liverpool were when Brendan Rodgers was switching them to a more dominant style of football.

You have to start dominating before you become clinical, creating the chances is the first steps towards a good style of football.

Somewhat disappointing game. We had our opportunities but didn’t capitalize, namely Ben Arfa’s miss from Ameobi. Overall we outplayed them but showed some kinks in our defense at the same time. Our back four isn’t pacey enough for fast players, we got lucky they didn’t really have any until Redmond came on. We really missed Cabaye in the middle today, but I was pleased with Samma A nonetheless. Should’ve won the match, disappointed we didn’t.

    My thoughts on the match:

Not a result I’m happy with, but the performance was considerably better than I thought it would be, seeing as the mood isn’t very good with Cabaye gone.

Still amazed that we hadn’t scored a single goal after all those chances. The ratio of goal attempts to shots on target wasn’t very good this match.

Hopefully De Jong will help us finish those chances, but I won’t be holding my breath for a while as he’s been a long time without playing, let alone playing well.

Williamson did a solid job again. Some key blocks and tackles.

Glad Debuchy didn’t have a pissy fit with Cabaye not there.

And finally, we desperately need to appeal Remy’s red card. That was a woeful decision.

If we sell Cabaye and sign a replacement, Cabella, De Jong and start playing Sylvain Marveaux more, then that would be sufficient.

Pardew is afraid to drop Sissoko and Tiote because they are big.

Well, we’ve consolidated our detached 8th place. Get in!

Don’t understand the votes for Sissoko to be MOTM. He has all the attributes to power past people on the counter, but doesn’t believe in himself to get it done and freezes all too often.

Can only be from HBA or Sammy, in my opinion. Sammy was better 1st half, unstoppable in fact, which then meant he attracted more attention 2nd half and nearly disappeared as an offensive threat, then seemed to catch his brother’s drift when he came on and gave the ball away needlessly a couple of times. HBA had a good 1st half, picking his passes much quicker, but did blow our best chance, then really turned it on 2nd half and went on a mission, only for it to be aborted by injury.

Some great mazy dribbling from both.

    HBA – MOTM

22 shots 3 on target is not good enough, been a problem all season. Dominating the first half isn’t good enough if it’s 0-0!!
Our two best attacking players this season wont be playing in the derby game… at least we have Shola!!
