Newcastle Win Odds Fall From 72% To 45% Without Cabaye

12:25 pm, Tuesday, January 28th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 120 Comments

When we put our poll out yesterday, for the game at Norwich today,  about 400 votes were in before the news broke on a deal having been agreed with PSG for Yohan Cabaye, and  the Newcastle fans had been  confident of getting a win tonight, with 72% thinking we’ll win the game tonight at Carrow Road.

yohan cabaye99

We’ll never this player in Newcastle colors ever again
Where’s that handkerchief?

And then the news broke late last night, and once that news was out that Cabaye was leaving, the number of fans thinking we can win tonight has dropped dramatically.

In fact before the news broke 72% though we’d win, 14% thought we’d draw and only 14% expected a defeat.

Here are the current poll results:

How Will Newcastle Fare At Norwich?

View Results

Loading ... Loading ...

So once Cabaye was not playing, the win percentage went from 72%  to 45%, and those who think we’ll lose tonight went from 14% to 37%.

With those figures, anybody would think Yohan Cabaye was a world-class player. 😀

We can still win tonight.

Signing strikers is always going to be risky.
    These people dont want risks.
    Theyl never sign a striker.

    All free-bees, loans.

I think it’s time for the real Hatem Ben Arfa to stand up.

You did not have to talk about family related instances over the internet. What has my grandmother got to do with you at all? nothing.

You stay negative, say negative stuff you are most likely to expect negative stuff in your life and comments thrown back at you. Just because you are negative, does not give you any right to single out toon fans which are staying optimistic. I am sure you will forget this day we sold Cabaye when we strengthen and bring in better prospects that out-perform Cabaye by a mile.

It is not fantasy, fantasy is fans wanting Cabaye to stay and forget his Champions League dreams with a team that has ambition and that aims for cups. I am a fan that is set on reality, we will use the money from Cabaye, if not now then that money combined with what we will get at the end of the season. Mike Ashley is doing the correct thing to spend money that the club has itself as he does not want to throw in his own money as we have witnessed many times unless its an emergency case.

Brighten up and stop getting families linked into this, be mature.

Oh ok, mb. I cannot tell if fans are being sarcastic when they are raging as when one rages they sometimes do not realise what they have written lol.

  • 7 Markaccus // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:34 PM

    hope is all that remains.
which midfielder would you replace cabs with? A new one? Hba or sissoko maybe. Pardew has options here, lets hope he picks the right one.

  • 8 TurkishFan101 // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:35 PM

He starts the likes of Shola Ameobi in front of Ben Arfa. What makes you think he will start? but I bloody hope so he does cause Pardew is ruining him and changing his technical skills to be a defensive player, he is not sought out for that!

  • 9 mag // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:35 PM

We should be too much for Norwich so it’s a 3-1 win for the Mags.

  • 11 BandB // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:37 PM

Someone who only ever posts to have a go at Ruddy did just that a few moments ago.
I thought to myself: “Ian Toon won’t be long.”
Can I just point out, as Ibizatoon did on the day it happened, that Ed ONLY said you were not posting under different names NOW.
Not quite the all-clear you have spun it to be. I always thought it odd, after your huge faux-pas, that Carl and Pushy didn’t just post assurances in support of you.
When someone made just that point a couple of weeks ago, Carl (highly predictably) put in a very brief show.
So you pontificating on sorting the wheat from the chaff is a tough one to swallow.

  • 12 AaranD // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:37 PM

Against a team like Norwich I’d give HBA the free role which Cabaye has had these past few games.
With Luuk De Jong coming in why not have a pop for Siem, his brother, as well. Seems a similar player to Cabaye. Only problem is he has just recovered from a collapsed lung.

  • 13 mag // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:38 PM

Anita will play the Cabaye role and either Shola or Benny will play up front.

  • 14 cbtoon82 // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:39 PM

I think he will start because we have no one else to start ahead of him? Gouffran and obertan are out injured as is cisse, and cabaye is gone. I don’t think he has a choice but to start him.

  • 15 HullMag6 // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:39 PM

My team for tonight now: 433

    Santon or Haidara
    Ben Arfa

Cabs is gone, de jong ironically timed any more in I hope so but doubt it too.

  • 16 Ted Bundy // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:40 PM

Ruddy has zero impulse control. Can’t help himself insulting somebody, even when the line before he vows not to!

“….fight the good fight, the apologists are losing ground every day.”. What an infantile, facile person.

Small matter of a match tonight. Difficult one to predict the team, given Cabaye’s departure and the positive/negative effect that could have on certain players. Personally, I’d have a word with HBA and put the onus on him to fill Cabaye’s boots, emphasising this is his chance to seize his preferred position and come to the fore – hopefully the making of him. Debuchy is the worry, as we all know and he admitted, how perturbed he was by the uncertainty of his pal leaving 6 months after he himself had joined, contributing to his atrocious performance against Man City. Should be ok now. think he’s a lot more settled and will no doubt have been privy to Cabaye’s plans since.

What I think Pardew will go with, only uncertainty is HBA. Mbiwa unfortunately will have to yield to the pudding, Saylor.

  • 17 bills-son // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:40 PM

Kinnear keeps his mouth shut for the last few months and the first time he opens it to the press he says no player will be sold in January.

Less than a week later Cabaye is away.

His credibility score doesn’t hit zero.

  • 18 Jeff from Benwell // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:41 PM

I we get either Caballa or Grenier ( or hopefully both) this window or the next it will have been good business , both are much better prospects than Cabaye was when he was 23.

The contradictions on here are stunning.

Folk say Ashley is greedy and only interested in promoting SD.
Then they say he doesn’t want CL football – WHAT ?
The CL is the best advertising hoarding in the world !!

They say a player has been Pardewed in a sneering fashion yet Williamson is one of the most improved players in the Prem. And Pardew increased a French international midfielders value five fold over 30 months.

As me mate used to say as the polis were approaching “make sure you get your story right”

  • 19 Graeme // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:41 PM

We should be capable of beating Norwich, but, take the drive out of midfield, the creativity – anything could happen.

Who is going to supply the through-balls, the incisive passes? Who is going to make Remy look as good as Cabaye has done?? No doubt Hughton will have his team up for this to take “advantage” of the team being on a downer!!

Now is the time for Pardew to prove his ability!!!

  • 20 richyg01 // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:42 PM

    Its fine.

AP will play Gosling in Cabaye’s role.

  • 21 Ted Bundy // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:43 PM

    Oh yeah, Gouffran injured. Shite.

Well, our special weapon it is then – sure-footed Shola, baby!

  • 22 Rotonda heights // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:43 PM

It’s a difficult one. I’d like to keep the 433 as the first half v West ham was the best football we’ve played for a while.

I guess in that more advanced position Cabaye was finding himself lately it ‘s one of Benny or long shot Marveaux or even longer shot Bigirama.

Knowing Pardew’s cautious approach though I suspect it will be back to 442 with either Obertan or Shola or both coming back in.

  • 23 TurkishFan101 // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:43 PM

but getting in the champions league costs money, and even then there are still 7 clubs ahead of us for that sport.

It’s a lot to invest for a bit more advertising, the prem league is shown live in 200+ countries every week, we’d be lucky to get 6 games in the champions league compared with 38 in the prem.

It isn’t worth the risk as far as ashley is concerned….that’s just my opinion on the situation, not claiming it to be fact.

  • 27 TurkishFan101 // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:45 PM

I hope Marveaux gets a start today or comes on as sub on second half. He has more ability then Cabaye in that number 10 role and has proven it last season when he saved us from getting relegated.

  • 28 Ian Toon // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:45 PM

  • 29 Spoof // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:47 PM

I think the least we can do is to give de Jong a chance, he was great in the Dutch league and worth every penny of the £12m which Gladbach paid for him, however as you rightly say he was awful in Germany, of late he was not given a chance to show what he could do but he was given that chance last season but he blew it, so I can understand your reservations about him, but Dennis Bergkamp was great in the Dutch league but he was as awful in the Italian league as de Jong is in the German league, but look what he done when he went to the Arsenal, now de Jong will probably never hit the Bergkamp height’s but what Bergkamp proved was that failing in one particular league doesn’t mean that you won’t succeed in another, I think we should all be open minded, back the lad and give him a chance, it may just be a lack of confidence, but joining a new club gets the adrenalin pumping and all it takes is for a debut goal and the confidence could flood back through his viens, especially as a debut goal could well be a local derby as well.

  • 30 Spreadthetoon // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:47 PM

I have real concerns about Newcastle entering the summer window. As far as I see it so far…………..

    Shola Ameobi……contract ends
Loic Remy…………loan v. unlikely to stay
Papisse Cisse……..0% confidence / cannot even hold the line continually offside/ completely off form
Luke De Jong……….unknown quantity and if successful will command a large fee.

Loss of Jonas Guiterrez & Yohan Cabaye. Without seemingly any replacements.

JFK having potentially signed two loan players in 1 year. Irrespective of what has been said, actions speak louder than words. I see inaction and potentially the nucleus of the team slowly dismantling. Very sad indeed.

  • 31 Transfer Sage // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:47 PM

we did it often last year with campbell and he would barely get on the pitch, so can’t see him getting any part of the game…..good experience for the lad though.

The phrase about grandmother isn’t an insult, it’s a saying which basically means ifs and buts don’t mean anything…..they aren’t true…it’s like saying if shearer was still in his prime now we might get champions league…well he isn’t so its pointless to say it…that’s what it means.

    It’s not an insult.

It was a humorous attempt at ridiculing wild speculation – not a specific reference to anyone’s grandmother. Stop being so sensitive. Your grasp of the English language is sufficient enough to understand that – nothing ethical or cultural about it, but I am sure the PC brigade will be out in force so I will give you this much.

I apologise if your disposition is such that you turn a small turn of phrase into an ethical and cultural dilemma.

Ciaran and i have completely different opinions but i dont only post to go against him. Nowadays i rarely post but feel a desire to when,
    a) posters are going against some of the policies that are turning the club around (in my opinion)
    b) when poster are being ganged up or abused.

Ian does share a similar stance to me but i can guarantee we are not the same poster, if that is what you are referring to. In all honesty (sorry Ian) i lost a little respect for Ian when the accusations were flying around even though there was no hard evidence against Ian other than ‘ i have an email from Ed’..

Sorry to suggest that i was taken in by this. I hope i am mistaken. Thanks for the kind words, however.

  • 35 Rotonda heights // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:49 PM

Cabaye had a ridiculously low buy out clause at lille which was well spotted by carr and he had won everything in France. face it Cabaye was going to make it wherever he went.

Williamson was referred to as ” the other guy ” by pardew, till injury allowed him back in and he basically stuck 2 fingers up to say I’ll show you.

I am much more concerned by the dramatic decline of a deadly goalscorer in cisse and the equally depressing fall away of Ben Arfa, Marveaux and the too rare appearances of Anita, MYM and Bigirama,

  • 36 cbtoon82 // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:50 PM

Turkish – pardew clearly has a problem with or doesn’t rate marveaux. I don’t think he’ll play for us again.
I think Ben arfa will start in the no10 role, app Adam Armstrong can play there too, if we’re winning big he might give him a little cameo for 10-15 mins.

  • 37 MrMojoRisin76 // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:50 PM

There’s only 1 explanation why we have shambolically ambled our way through this transfer window and previous ones with no sense of purpose or urgency, the only other group of people to display these characteristics are The Undead, and i’m pretty sure you have to be alive to own a Football team.

  • 38 pawl250 // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:50 PM

Does anyone know how much Cabaye is going for?

I heard 19m initially then rising to 23m!

If 19m, then I would go for Luuk De Jong, Siem De Jong, Grenier, Gomis.

Luuk De Jong – Loan (guess 1m fee?)
    Siem De Jong – 8m
    Clement Grenier – 9m
    Baft Gomis – 3m

Then focus for Cabella (13m), Remy (10m) and Luuk (8m) if he does well in summer, whilst looking to move RTaylor, Shola, Gosling, Jonas, Obertan out of the club.

Seems logical and we will have a stronger team.

    As for tonight

    ————————— Krul
    Debuchy – Williamson – Mbiwa – Santon
    ————– Sissoko – Tiote – Anita
Ben Arfa ———— Remy ——– Gouffran

    For Mackems I would go

    ————————– Krul
    Debuchy – Williamson – Mbiwa – Santon
    ———— Sissoko – Tiote – Anita
Gouffran ———– De Jong ——– Remy

Well enough said about Cabaye, at the end of the day ,it was his choice to leave , as nobody has held a gun too his head and forced him out.
A good player , and both parties have scored.
He was unkown to myself before he arrived at the club, now he is a full international for France and now known world wide and playing for money bags PSG.
We as a club have scored for several millions of Euros.
Get Mr Carr into action ,and with the squad we already have ,my glass is half full.
Get Ben Arfa in the team for tonight and trounce them Canaries. Howay the lads.( Wish I was going )

  • 42 pawl250 // Jan 28, 2014 at 12:51 PM

    “Command a larger fee”

You cannot change a fee agreement in the loan should the player wish to leave.

Bottom line, he does well here they cannot ask for 12m if the Loan agreement says 8m

Ashley is sticking to the plan he unveiled through his then mouth-piece Lambias.

he said no more big signings, no more has beens, no more depreciating assets…his blue print was announced as being based on buying young talent, developing them, selling them, and using said profits to re-invest in more good young talent.

We all heard this, maybe we’re just choosing to ignore it because we didn’t like the selling bit…but he’s doing exactly what he said he’d do…a business plan based on good business principles rather than hopes and dreams of supporters (just for the record I don’t agree with it either1)

…so don’t quite understand why we’re all so shocked!

Yes he’s a Knob, no we don’t like him, no he’s not a fan, yes he’s a very shrewd businessman who likes the fact we hate him so much cos his a billionaire and we’re not and yes the coffee smells sh!te but hey…we’re still in the premiership where he wants us and some day lads he’ll sell the club!

lets just hope in two years after he sells the club we’re not all on here wishing he’d stayed! 🙂

  • 57 pawl250 // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:06 PM

Pjanic is 23 years old! Taller than Cabaye and probably in truth a better player with his best years ahead.

Cabaye is 28 in his best years, had a questionable season last year and is not exactly the boss in midfield i.e. like Toure, Vieira kind of player.

20m or if as you say 23 euro, translated into £ is 19,827,586 so basically £20m is alot of money, and arguably a fair deal for Cabaye.

Face the facts, he is a good player, but for those babbling yesterday I would snap Mata over Cabaye ANY day of the week.

In a whole different class! That is why Man Utd paid 37m aswell as Chelsea knowing they could squeeze it out of them with smell of desperation!

20m for Cabaye is a cracking deal, not I only hope the money is used to buy 2 equally promising players to replace him!

Spurs did this, as did Arsenal. We need to accept this is the way of modern football, however with smart investment we could strengthen opposed to weaken.

    Time will tell!

Luuk de Jong is a good buy. Loan albeit, but it has its risks!

  • 58 TheToonKing // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:07 PM

Really sad Cabaye is gone….he was a centerpiece.

but the fact is we’re getting good money.

If we get Grenier in for say 15mil I’d say we’re in a better spot then before. Problem is i don’t see us getting him in the winter.

Let’s hope now that our best player (statistically he is) , Debuchy, sticks around.

  • 59 Finnbad The Sailor // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:07 PM

On the bus down to Norwich now. Was quite confident last night when putting my bets on before the news of Cabs broke… didn’t think he’d be sold in the winter like which is a shame especially so close to the derby.

Still was confident of taking the 3 points on the way down until Gouffran (is it confirmed?) got injured.

Think I’ll wait till lineups are confirmed before I put any bets on which is a shame as yesterday afternoon / early evening all I could see was a win.

Also can people stop the petty sniping at each other I’m sick of reading the same sh!t from the exact same 3 posters. You know who you are and you’re making it a real pain scrolling through your arguments to find posts worth reading.

BandB is highly respected on here. Although she may have a point. I am anti some people because the way they conduct themselves. However the way they operate is their own downfall after seeing how today has panned out.

Ince is on the move but it is highly unlikely we will sign him.. A shame because he is a goal scoring winger, goals win games.

AA in the squad today. Expect his debut at home (but not vs Makems). That will get the crowd going!

Has anyone else given thought to how Cabaye transfer will effect Debuchy???
If he sulks then that is another one on his way.
I also think the transfer gives blabbermouth a god given excuse for any failings from now on unless of course we get a spate of signings now. Dream on

  • 70 cbtoon82 // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:13 PM

Turkish – I agree, Pardew has a habit of dropping in form players ie Anita and Mbiwa.
I just don’t think Marveaux will ever get another chance, for whatever reason. I’m not saying he shouldn’t.

  • 71 MrMojoRisin76 // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:13 PM

They have just reported on SSN that Lyon’s chairman has said Grenier can leave this month if a good offer comes in,he is valued at 10m,if he has not signed for us by Saturday it will be the biggest clue about Jabba’s ambition we will ever need,a normal club, ran by sane people with the club’s best interest at heart would NEVER sell their best player until they had brought a replacement in.So we will clearly see by Saturday what his intentions really are.If we do sign someone i will look a tit but i had to get that out there now.

  • 72 JDdubai // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:15 PM

Its all set for HbA to come in and play centrally behind Remy, he needs to step up and Pards needs to give him 3 or 4 games regardless of form to try to get up to speed.

When he is rusty and not playing frequently his touch isnt great and is off the pace, he needs games.

Ideally a goalscoring number 10 is Siem de Jong, perfect for our team and formation with tiote and anita behind him. Scores goals, creates, hope he is on the list for summer…

Just cant predict anything with our management team though, probably Shola will start tonight and HbA left out, tho with Gouffran possibly injured as well surely HbA is in the game.

  • 73 mag // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:16 PM

Marveuax isn’t getting a game because he called Pardew a cock-end.

Reading between the lies, thank you for reading my posts and no need to apologise!!

  • 75 pawl250 // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:17 PM

Yea, like how blabberface was quoted saying “no one will leave in this window” hardly pulls any blame away from him?

    Bottom line…..

This is a good move providing we invest it wisely back into youthful, cheap players i.e. Gernier, Cabella or players heading to the end of contracts.

De Jong is a good signing, even on loan. I am sure we can get him in the summer should he do well.

As for Remy I doubt we will get him.

Come summer if we managed to say sign Cabella, De Jong, Gernier and say Siem De Jong I would be over the moon.

Of course it is important to keep your better players, but when their valuation has been overpriced in this case, and Carrolls then we can hardly argue about it.

  • 76 Spreadthetoon // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:20 PM

Okay complete conspiracy theory but here goes……reckon they could make a v. short film of this one………….

Remember when APPARENTLY Cabaye did not want to play at the start of the season after the Arsenal offer?! Perhaps this was a STAGED ploy by MA & JFK to firmly put him in the shop window………
Anyone else notice the complete acceptance and unity of the team with Cabaye…..because perhaps they knew the truth. Besides if Cabaye was so unhappy why did he keep on going on about bringing his best mate Mathieu to the club just over 12 months ago. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE?! More smoke and mirrors and a new window is open. OPENING STATEMENT FRM JFK “No Newcastle Players will leave this window” – which means the polar opposite. Blanc’s interpretation…’s 70% discount sale at SD this month….let’s get ourselves a bargain! Who shall we have this month………
AP adds to the spin “well every player has their price you know, we’re not part of the Sport’s Direct chain yet but we’d like to be! That’s our primary target, that and the cups (cough, cough), sorry I mean the CL, no sorry I mean top 8, no I mean mid table. Thanks Mike for that prompt sheet I nearly forgot me lines!”
And so a bit more spin and leaks are given to the press and now Dreamboat 1 now flies back to France. Thanks for the memories Yohan.

    ——————-The End—————-

  • 77 Ultra Mag-ness // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:21 PM

I think that the sale of Cabaye is making the best out of a bad situation. He wouldn’t have signed a new contract and would have left for free in 2 years or would have bought out his contract so to get £20m now is the best scenario unfortunately as long as it is reinvested. People talk about about Ashley keeping the money from Carroll’s transfer but we effectively spent that on the team – if we were able to sign one or both of Grenier and Cabella with the £20m get De Jong for £1m loan and 3 million for Gomis I would think that was a really positive window.

We have to face facts we aren’t in the Champions League and we are unlikely to get there and remain there for a long long time if ever and PSG who are still in it and are French is a massive draw for a Frenchman. Ashley couldn’t do much more I don’t think but we need to invest it or I think another protest/ riot is likely

the person I feel most sorry for in all this is HBA,

he will get a chance, and rightly so, but im waiting for a lot of numpties coming on and say there, he had a chance and blow it,

these next 2 games are huge for different reasons,

IF the lad gets his chance, don’t judge him on these 2 games, let the lad have a run, get fully match fit( he is only used to playing 10 mins a game right now) , then judge him

ps I hope he get a run in the middle , he will be awsome

I was intrigued by this revelation and assumed Jose may have been a leader of a group or an organisation and that his words may be philosophical. However my online enquiries revealed something I was not expecting as I stumbled upon who Jose really was. I can only say well if it floats your boat. Link to Jose:-

If we really want to get someone then 48hrs is enough. If we dont then he whole week isnt.

    Interesting theory. Wish cabaye speaks.

  • 84 Toonfan8 // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:30 PM

ok, Cabaye off, so we have to bring Grenier ASAP…can be great player in future…De Jong will be good bussiness because he will want to prove himself…Grenier,De Jong in and in the summer Cabella and one promising CB and we are solved for good season…also sign Remy permanent…if we sign these four players and sold only Cabaye and Colo, we will be in much better shape than before this season

  • 85 theycallmeparv // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:30 PM

Why do you even bother commenting Ciaran? Go back to your own blog that does nothing but spout negative nonsense towards our club. You have NO IDEA what Mike Ashley has planned so as much as I am all for OPINIONS, stop telling people what is GOING to happen. You have no idea, just like the rest of us. So shut up insulting people and look up what the term ‘supporter’ actually means.

The only good I can see from selling Cabaye is if we manage to get De Jong and Grenier and then Cabella in the summer. As well as now giving HBA a much anticipated number 10 role.

I think our team is actually pretty good when it looks like this

    Debuchy Willo/Colo Mbiwa Santon

    Sissoko Goof

    Remy De Jong

  • 86 yo-yo // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:31 PM

We have Anita on form and able to step into fill some of Cabs role. However, we need a top free kick taker and Benny seems the best available. I suspect HBA will get a few games to prove himself with Tiote Sissoko and Anita as mids which may well mean a 4-3-1-2.

If we don’t get Grenier or Cabella then it’ll be down to some xcuse or other as they are both logical fits for our team.

  • 87 Sazzer // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:32 PM

  • 94 Greebol1892 // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:36 PM

    Strolla will start.
Marveaux is out of the picture now because his work-rate is anti-Pardew (same as HBA but HBA is a match winner.) Obertan will play some part because he’s quick – that’s it.
De Jong will be a bench-warmer cos Pardew has no balls to put him straight in. Ask MYM about that.
I just hope we see Anita play every game now because he is quality.

  • 103 Thump // Jan 28, 2014 at 1:54 PM

@Shadow Shearer: I reckon that was probably more to do with De Jong forcing the move. He’s hardly been quiet about wanting playing time.

As for the £20m – that includes wages and agent fees, and remember, those free agents aren’t “free” anymore! In fact, not buying any players is the only way forward if we want to keep making money (by not spending any of it).

  • 107 Transfer Sage // Jan 28, 2014 at 2:00 PM

I don’t think it was that bad, I think it was just more they didn’t want to risk him getting injured if another bid was expected so didn’t play him.

As for this window, clubs know how good he is and what he is all about. Him playing well does a million time more in terms of putting him in the window that whatever pardew says.

We only sell for silly money, and clear out the mediocre players!

Every player has his price – that’s anything other than the truth, until we get CL.

And I understand why MA won’t gamble his money on NUFC – that is, and always will be, a huge gamble.

Now that we’ve got our silly money for the season, we can grow much stronger than a CL-hungry 28 year old would’ve gotten us.

Get AC out of your heads lads – it’s getting old, so old..

  • 115 Big Pappa Cissé // Jan 28, 2014 at 2:09 PM

Am I the only one that doesn’t rate De Jong ? .

Scored for fun in the Dutch league and then couldn’t cut the mustard in a strong division . Just look at Altidore for the Mackems and how that turned out . We should have gone for Mitroglu.

Selling our best player and bringing in a striker that technically doesn’t belong to us is just a big middle finger from the fat puppet master.

I will make a wager that after De Jong on loan we sign no one else, any takers . I just hope I am proved wrong, I really do 🙁 .

  • 116 Spreadthetoon // Jan 28, 2014 at 2:09 PM

Agreed. I do not buy that Cabaye went on strike. Shame he’s gone and I think his best years are yet to come. I.e. the next two. I wish him well as he did well by us and clearly the vision that the board has is not quick enough in its time frame to retain Yohan. Really hope we fill the gap and quickly with quality and not quantity.

It will be interesting to see how we perform tonight and furthermore if any form of replacement is brought in this window. We still have the upcoming summer with a potential Striker crisis. Never a dull moment eh?!

  • 117 Transfer Sage // Jan 28, 2014 at 2:11 PM

with cabaye also preferring the deeper role he could play well into his 30’s just dropping deeper and dictating play more, like gerrard has this year.

Heres a reason for letting cabaye go..

Assume we had not let him go. Everyone knew Psg Arsenal and perhaps manu later were after him. We do not sell him and make him play out his entire 5 yr contract. He does so reluctantly.
What message does that send to potential transfer targets ?
They know NUFC arent in there for CL. They know we dont offer exhorbitant wages. If we do not give them a chance to follow their dreams and lock them up for 5 years with no ambition, then why would any1 join us ? Thats Ashleys plans out of the window.
What does he do ? Bargain hard. Keep him one window. Try to get as much as he can without being impossible.
