When we put our poll out yesterday, for the game at Norwich today, about 400 votes were in before the news broke on a deal having been agreed with PSG for Yohan Cabaye, and the Newcastle fans had been confident of getting a win tonight, with 72% thinking we’ll win the game tonight at Carrow Road.
We’ll never this player in Newcastle colors ever again
Where’s that handkerchief? 🙁
And then the news broke late last night, and once that news was out that Cabaye was leaving, the number of fans thinking we can win tonight has dropped dramatically.
In fact before the news broke 72% though we’d win, 14% thought we’d draw and only 14% expected a defeat.
Here are the current poll results:
So once Cabaye was not playing, the win percentage went from 72% to 45%, and those who think we’ll lose tonight went from 14% to 37%.
With those figures, anybody would think Yohan Cabaye was a world-class player. 😀
We can still win tonight.

You did not have to talk about family related instances over the internet. What has my grandmother got to do with you at all? nothing.
You stay negative, say negative stuff you are most likely to expect negative stuff in your life and comments thrown back at you. Just because you are negative, does not give you any right to single out toon fans which are staying optimistic. I am sure you will forget this day we sold Cabaye when we strengthen and bring in better prospects that out-perform Cabaye by a mile.
It is not fantasy, fantasy is fans wanting Cabaye to stay and forget his Champions League dreams with a team that has ambition and that aims for cups. I am a fan that is set on reality, we will use the money from Cabaye, if not now then that money combined with what we will get at the end of the season. Mike Ashley is doing the correct thing to spend money that the club has itself as he does not want to throw in his own money as we have witnessed many times unless its an emergency case.
Brighten up and stop getting families linked into this, be mature.

Oh ok, mb. I cannot tell if fans are being sarcastic when they are raging as when one rages they sometimes do not realise what they have written lol.

which midfielder would you replace cabs with? A new one? Hba or sissoko maybe. Pardew has options here, lets hope he picks the right one.

He starts the likes of Shola Ameobi in front of Ben Arfa. What makes you think he will start? but I bloody hope so he does cause Pardew is ruining him and changing his technical skills to be a defensive player, he is not sought out for that!

Someone who only ever posts to have a go at Ruddy did just that a few moments ago.
I thought to myself: “Ian Toon won’t be long.”
Can I just point out, as Ibizatoon did on the day it happened, that Ed ONLY said you were not posting under different names NOW.
Not quite the all-clear you have spun it to be. I always thought it odd, after your huge faux-pas, that Carl and Pushy didn’t just post assurances in support of you.
When someone made just that point a couple of weeks ago, Carl (highly predictably) put in a very brief show.
So you pontificating on sorting the wheat from the chaff is a tough one to swallow.

Comment #12Against a team like Norwich I’d give HBA the free role which Cabaye has had these past few games.
With Luuk De Jong coming in why not have a pop for Siem, his brother, as well. Seems a similar player to Cabaye. Only problem is he has just recovered from a collapsed lung.

Ruddy has zero impulse control. Can’t help himself insulting somebody, even when the line before he vows not to!
“….fight the good fight, the apologists are losing ground every day.”. What an infantile, facile person.
Small matter of a match tonight. Difficult one to predict the team, given Cabaye’s departure and the positive/negative effect that could have on certain players. Personally, I’d have a word with HBA and put the onus on him to fill Cabaye’s boots, emphasising this is his chance to seize his preferred position and come to the fore – hopefully the making of him. Debuchy is the worry, as we all know and he admitted, how perturbed he was by the uncertainty of his pal leaving 6 months after he himself had joined, contributing to his atrocious performance against Man City. Should be ok now. think he’s a lot more settled and will no doubt have been privy to Cabaye’s plans since.
_______________Krul_______________
Debuchy____Willo___Saylor____Santon
____________Anita__Tiote
Sissoko_________HBA__________Gouffran
_______________Remy
What I think Pardew will go with, only uncertainty is HBA. Mbiwa unfortunately will have to yield to the pudding, Saylor.

Comment #18I we get either Caballa or Grenier ( or hopefully both) this window or the next it will have been good business , both are much better prospects than Cabaye was when he was 23.
The contradictions on here are stunning.
Folk say Ashley is greedy and only interested in promoting SD.
Then they say he doesn’t want CL football – WHAT ?
The CL is the best advertising hoarding in the world !!
They say a player has been Pardewed in a sneering fashion yet Williamson is one of the most improved players in the Prem. And Pardew increased a French international midfielders value five fold over 30 months.
As me mate used to say as the polis were approaching “make sure you get your story right”

Comment #19We should be capable of beating Norwich, but, take the drive out of midfield, the creativity – anything could happen.
Who is going to supply the through-balls, the incisive passes? Who is going to make Remy look as good as Cabaye has done?? No doubt Hughton will have his team up for this to take “advantage” of the team being on a downer!!
Now is the time for Pardew to prove his ability!!!

It’s a difficult one. I’d like to keep the 433 as the first half v West ham was the best football we’ve played for a while.
I guess in that more advanced position Cabaye was finding himself lately it ‘s one of Benny or long shot Marveaux or even longer shot Bigirama.
Knowing Pardew’s cautious approach though I suspect it will be back to 442 with either Obertan or Shola or both coming back in.

but getting in the champions league costs money, and even then there are still 7 clubs ahead of us for that sport.
It’s a lot to invest for a bit more advertising, the prem league is shown live in 200+ countries every week, we’d be lucky to get 6 games in the champions league compared with 38 in the prem.
It isn’t worth the risk as far as ashley is concerned….that’s just my opinion on the situation, not claiming it to be fact.

I think the least we can do is to give de Jong a chance, he was great in the Dutch league and worth every penny of the £12m which Gladbach paid for him, however as you rightly say he was awful in Germany, of late he was not given a chance to show what he could do but he was given that chance last season but he blew it, so I can understand your reservations about him, but Dennis Bergkamp was great in the Dutch league but he was as awful in the Italian league as de Jong is in the German league, but look what he done when he went to the Arsenal, now de Jong will probably never hit the Bergkamp height’s but what Bergkamp proved was that failing in one particular league doesn’t mean that you won’t succeed in another, I think we should all be open minded, back the lad and give him a chance, it may just be a lack of confidence, but joining a new club gets the adrenalin pumping and all it takes is for a debut goal and the confidence could flood back through his viens, especially as a debut goal could well be a local derby as well.

Comment #30I have real concerns about Newcastle entering the summer window. As far as I see it so far…………..
Shola Ameobi……contract ends
Loic Remy…………loan v. unlikely to stay
Papisse Cisse……..0% confidence / cannot even hold the line continually offside/ completely off form
Luke De Jong……..loan….unknown quantity and if successful will command a large fee.
Loss of Jonas Guiterrez & Yohan Cabaye. Without seemingly any replacements.
JFK having potentially signed two loan players in 1 year. Irrespective of what has been said, actions speak louder than words. I see inaction and potentially the nucleus of the team slowly dismantling. Very sad indeed.

The phrase about grandmother isn’t an insult, it’s a saying which basically means ifs and buts don’t mean anything…..they aren’t true…it’s like saying if shearer was still in his prime now we might get champions league…well he isn’t so its pointless to say it…that’s what it means.
It’s not an insult.

It was a humorous attempt at ridiculing wild speculation – not a specific reference to anyone’s grandmother. Stop being so sensitive. Your grasp of the English language is sufficient enough to understand that – nothing ethical or cultural about it, but I am sure the PC brigade will be out in force so I will give you this much.
I apologise if your disposition is such that you turn a small turn of phrase into an ethical and cultural dilemma.

Ciaran and i have completely different opinions but i dont only post to go against him. Nowadays i rarely post but feel a desire to when,
a) posters are going against some of the policies that are turning the club around (in my opinion)
b) when poster are being ganged up or abused.
Ian does share a similar stance to me but i can guarantee we are not the same poster, if that is what you are referring to. In all honesty (sorry Ian) i lost a little respect for Ian when the accusations were flying around even though there was no hard evidence against Ian other than ‘ i have an email from Ed’..

Sorry to suggest that i was taken in by this. I hope i am mistaken. Thanks for the kind words, however.

Comment #35Cabaye had a ridiculously low buy out clause at lille which was well spotted by carr and he had won everything in France. face it Cabaye was going to make it wherever he went.
Williamson was referred to as ” the other guy ” by pardew, till injury allowed him back in and he basically stuck 2 fingers up to say I’ll show you.
I am much more concerned by the dramatic decline of a deadly goalscorer in cisse and the equally depressing fall away of Ben Arfa, Marveaux and the too rare appearances of Anita, MYM and Bigirama,

Comment #36Turkish – pardew clearly has a problem with or doesn’t rate marveaux. I don’t think he’ll play for us again.
I think Ben arfa will start in the no10 role, app Adam Armstrong can play there too, if we’re winning big he might give him a little cameo for 10-15 mins.

Comment #38Does anyone know how much Cabaye is going for?
I heard 19m initially then rising to 23m!
If 19m, then I would go for Luuk De Jong, Siem De Jong, Grenier, Gomis.
Luuk De Jong – Loan (guess 1m fee?)
Siem De Jong – 8m
Clement Grenier – 9m
Baft Gomis – 3m
21m
Then focus for Cabella (13m), Remy (10m) and Luuk (8m) if he does well in summer, whilst looking to move RTaylor, Shola, Gosling, Jonas, Obertan out of the club.
Seems logical and we will have a stronger team.
As for tonight
————————— Krul
Debuchy – Williamson – Mbiwa – Santon
————– Sissoko – Tiote – Anita
Ben Arfa ———— Remy ——– Gouffran
For Mackems I would go
————————– Krul
Debuchy – Williamson – Mbiwa – Santon
———— Sissoko – Tiote – Anita
Gouffran ———– De Jong ——– Remy
