Still Hope On Grenier – He’s Got Tremendous Creative Ability

4:14 pm, Thursday, January 30th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 127 Comments

Alan Pardew has given his press conference for the upcoming game against Sunderland early Saturday afternoon, and it was obvious he would be asked about 23 year-old Clement Grenier – and Alan still thinks Newcastle are in with a chance of getting the lad to Tyneside before Friday night.

alan pardew

Alan Pardew - still hopeful on Grenier

It’s fair to say that if Joe Kinnear and Mike Ashley are not able to get a replacement in – they will have again let the manager down, who does the very best with the players he has available – of course that’s also a good definition of the job he has at Newcastle.

This is what Alan said when asked about the possible  transfer of Grenier to Newcastle:

“Not in terms of if the deal is finalised or is finished, so it’s ongoing as far as I’m aware.”  “It’s two days left, we’ll have to wait and see. I’m obviously hopeful and that’s really where I sit today.”

“I think he has tremendous creative, technical ability.” “I think he is a player Newcastle fans would love to see at the football club but he’s still not our player so, until he is … I’ll wax lyrical about him then.”

“There’s no option, really, other than to do that (be patient), but we will have to see how we go in the next two days,”

Everything we’ve heard and seen about Grenier tells us he would be a terrific signing for Newcastle as a direct replacement for Cabaye.

So let’s hope we can get him on board before 11:00 pm tomorrow night – that’s a good 31 hours away – lots of time for Joe to get his first permanent signing for Newcastle. :D

What do you think?

I’ll repost this for you lads.

Lads got some substantial news here.

If we fail to get Clement Grenier we will go for Filip Duricic around €10million.

His agent: “It’s true about Newcastle,” his agent, Ulisses Santos, told One World Sports on Thursday. “I have been speaking with Alan Pardew this week so let’s see what has happened by the end of tomorrow.”

Player from Benfica acquiring an attacking midfielder role.

  • 5 p // Jan 30, 2014 at 4:20 PM

aye, have to say, it looks like the Grenier caper is going to one of those “we tried but could not get it over the line”.

They are obviously trying hard and are serious. The question remains as to whether Lyon and the toon can agree a fee.

The player seems ambivalent whether he stays or goes.

So you can put the blame on him.

    It’s game over Ed,

So sad to see what is happening now. No relegation but no Europa or CL either, no cups, no new players, a total drunken incompetent embarrassment of a D.O.F, an average, ok, nothing special manager and the most turgid owner in a generation sucking away the lifeblood of the cub I’ve followed for 43 years.

Cabaye defined it perfectly ” I came to PSG to win things”

For the word definition of mediocre look under NUFC

Won’t stop 50000 perpetuating the mediocrity every home game. Therein lies the real obstacle to ever achieving change.

Shepherd and hall were crooks and gangsters and the kindest thing you can say about Ashley is at least you can see him coming.

  • 37 p // Jan 30, 2014 at 4:46 PM

Grenier is not over until tomorrow night when the window closes.

You would expect Lyon to play hard ball, they think we have 20m burning a hole in our pockets (they might not know Mash), they know the window is closing and they have a player who seems ambivalent about a move (Cabella seemed much keener).

Does not mean a deal won’t be done, I expect this one to be taken to the brink by both clubs and they try to get the best deal for themselves. Depends who blinks first for me.

  • 38 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 30, 2014 at 4:46 PM

We need a replacement for Cabaye now, it’s as simple as that.

LDJ plugs the gap that we knew we had in the squad and we’ve already lost one squad player in midfield with Jonas going on loan.

Tiote, Sissoko and Anite is decent but what happens when one or two of them are out? I’m happy with the idea of shuffling things round a bit with the likes of MYM, Sammy or Ben Arfa to come in, but not after just one injury/suspension!

Grenier to replace Cabaye and I’ll say we’ve got a decent squad. Then if we get Cabella in the summer I’ll be very happy. Well…once we account for Remy and LDJ finishing their loans and Colo possibly going back to Argentina…

  • 39 p // Jan 30, 2014 at 4:48 PM

Vuckic is supposed signed until 6/16

  • 40 GeordieTwo // Jan 30, 2014 at 4:52 PM

Where is the Lambsarse of yesteryear? I miss him now. Such a lovely lad he was compared with Big Joe. :(

  • 41 Ketsbaia9 // Jan 30, 2014 at 4:52 PM

PSG players used to sign for us on a regular basis in the late 90′s/earlier 2000′s. We signed Alain Goma, Didier Domi, Robert, Ginola etc.

If we signed Grenier, Konoplyanka, Benteke, Zouma and Alderweireld, we could break into the top 4.

  • 42 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 30, 2014 at 4:53 PM

JFK said to judge him on his signings and he said that nobody would leave Newcastle this window. Well, he was wrong about the latter, but we can make sure we will do the former!

If his first two windows are picking up a poorly performing squad and having lost 3 fringe players (Harper, Perch and Simpson), then signing 2 strikers on loan and selling our playmaker and another fringe midfielder, then I say I will judge and execute (metaphorically speaking) him.

Please don’t ruin our season by failing to sign a replacement!

  • 43 Transfer Sage // Jan 30, 2014 at 4:55 PM

I think replacement or not we will still be around 8th place.

We need to replace and strengthen even more to kick on, I think grenier and cabella would have been good.

Otherwise, come the end of the season we will be worse of than the start of this season.

A €13m offer from Newcastle for Clément Grenier has been rejected by Lyon. #NUFC #Grenier #Ol #EPL

2hrs ago 13m euros is £10.7m ish – we should look at other options. gone are the days of the shearer and owen prices…quite rightly too (those prices these days would be well into the 20′s)

Can Pardew not pretend to be Joe (a few F words in the mix and sexist jokes) and get someone up for a medical before anyone up top realises whats going on.

  • 48 p // Jan 30, 2014 at 4:58 PM

TS, I agree, focus should be on the on-field performance, not transfer activity in isolation.

I think we need to strengthen but I do not personally judge anyone directly on transfer activity. It’s the outcome of that transfer activity as well as other factors.

  • 49 GeordieTwo // Jan 30, 2014 at 4:59 PM

A few more derisory bids from Joe and the window will be closed lads. Worry not. Mike has everything under control. And we remain fiscally solvent. :)

I just look at the team and think in the summer we will loose the 3 strikers we now have (2 end of loans and 1 out of contract)….so we need to then either buy 3 or loan 3 or some combination.

We needed more in midfield with cabaye, so he needs replaced and additions.

We have enough defenders, except a 2nd right back but need to upgrade one of the centre backs (taylor).

I think we have all given JFK plenty of time to make signings, he is in this with Ash and i have no doubt Ash gave him the job to deflect some of the grief us fans threw at him re lack of investment.
JFK immediately cancelled the Douglass move and others no doubt, Ash is building up his funds and once all his money is back plus 25% (imo) profit he will sell on.
The man is only interested in making money, JFK has a job (where else we he be employed) and we have to suffer.
We will never improve as long as these two have ownership/control. Keegan was spot on !

On 23 February 2013, it was confirmed that ?uri?i?, along with fellow national team player Miralem Sulejmani, passed medical tests and devoted to a five-year contract with Benfica from summer 2013, with the Portuguese club spending €6 million to secure his services.[4][5] A week later, Benfica revealed that the contract which ?uri?i? signed had a release clause which valued him at €40 million.[6]

Haha mate! Would’nt mind scouting and getting paid while are University. I would compile scout reports weekly of all the players and continue adding to each report untill another January transfer or summer window is upon us. With immediate effect, I would contact the players I want and get them to agree to join us until Mike Ashley pulls the plunge.

I would take him to court and this time I would sue him with a fee so huge that I will take over once I graduate and be the owner of Newcastle United, get very good sponsors the likes of Nike/Adidas and only get major ckothing brands as Armani, Hugo Boss. Ambitious!!

Out of excitement I have a couple of spelling mistakes made on the previous post. Look at what excitement and future ambitions can do to one. Lads wait will a real NUFC owner that has a blood of black & white takes over Newcastle United. I will sack the whole board with immediate effect as well. Hell, I will revamp the club bottom to top. Coaches, training ground, increase seat capacity, remove every sight of advertisements of that SportsDirect advertisements and have minimal adverts with the main one being SBR charity foundation and charity organisations.

I am getting a bit carried away, I am off to study more later lads!

And how about a name change to Newcastle Adequate, average since Fat Freddie.

  • 101 sparky55 // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:27 PM

transfer…anyone who can afford the price will be better than what we’ve got

  • 102 MrMojoRisin76 // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:28 PM

    Lol Tsunki.

  • 103 Bambams // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:28 PM

To be fair Pards should maybe not say anything about how good other players are until we sign them.

The other teams chairman will see this and know how much our manager wants his player, ups the price -probably.

  • 104 Young_Mag // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:28 PM

Johnson’s ban rescinded but Remy’s stands .. FA complete F**king joke!

  • 105 GeordieTwo // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:28 PM

No wait, rant not over. I hate your ugly, pussy face JFK. I hate your horrible accent. I hate your smug over confidence. And I hate your pissup partner Mike. There. Beautiful.

  • 106 SholaHeskey // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:30 PM

Turkish – youve got me vote mate, to all of that. we might even sign a player under you too.

Lol at Tsunki staring out of Velux looking for helicopters!

official site saying vuckic is staying at rotherham with tav until the end of the season. either pards still doesnt rate him, we have someone lined up or JFK called him Henry Vagazzle and he’s decided not to come back.

maybe we should just egg JFK’s austin allegro – he might get the message then

  • 107 BandB // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:31 PM

    Well, Right Said Fred,
    Give a shout to Mikey,
Up comes Mikey, from the floor below.
Tried to lift it, couldn’t even shift it,
    We wuz getting nowhere,
And so we, had a nice Chablis…….

  • 108 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:32 PM

You’re right, replacing Cabaye will still only leave us heading for 8th. I don’t have a problem with that though. Very few of our players are past their peak so they should just be getting better, hopefully a few of our youth players can become regular first team players and if we can add Cabella and sign LDJ and Remy on permanent deals then we should set top 8 as a minimum next season with top 6 as the target.

  • 109 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:32 PM

TS…Fulham has also signed Kvist. It seems they have no problems closing deals ;)

Tsunki…Velux are some fine Danish windows aren’t they

  • 110 Bambams // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:33 PM

I dont think we stood much chance of overturning the red card, not when Pards comes out and states the ref got it right….Shut up Alan !!! Put the man in front of a camera…..

He should of come out immediately on the offensive stating we would be appealing immediately and it was never a red.

Luuk, i hope the force is with you for the derby !

  • 111 Zebras4Life // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:33 PM

He would ne great to have amd I believe he would be a starter. However, if no one gets hurt we will be fine.
    I really like Anita :)

    Not all doom and gloom.

  • 113 Mister Tuff // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:34 PM

Toon supporters are so demanding -wanting strikers, midfield players, Colo replacement etc etc. Poor old Joe is trying his best -not his fault players won’t sign. To cap it all some are saying the seasons over. Well just hold ya hosses -we’ve still got the Wonga flags to look forward to. I’m sure you all forgot about this important item which was discussed at the Fans Forum. The Gallowgate end will look nice with them fluttering in the wind.

  • 114 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:35 PM

    What a crock of sh*t

  • 115 mag // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:36 PM

Now the Benfica midfielder is being touted more waffle. Only one more day of the propaganda then it’s back to the mundane.

  • 116 Mister Tuff // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:37 PM

Please do not start the Ashley batcopter sightings- had enough of that in the summer.

  • 117 SholaHeskey // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:37 PM

maybe fatty can get a payday loan and we can sign someone decent like like like anyone.

  • 118 Bambams // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:38 PM

Luuk and Benny as front two.. (benny just behind)

I am no football manager, be we need to have a go at the mackems and not sit back.

  • 120 SholaHeskey // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:40 PM

sammy should start i reckon – the defenders are so slow. he can run past them and let cattermole hack him down in the box – red card and krul can take our pen as we will be playing 4-6-0

  • 121 MrMojoRisin76 // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:40 PM

I have an idea to get even with Jabba The C@*t, when he finally secretes himself into another venture and leaves our club(i think we’ll have to burn the office furniture, and probably the office, the new chairman can not wait 200yrs before his vileness dissipates to a safe level),we should all chip in and erect a statue of him outside the ground, this statue will have a padded face and genital area so any fans who see fit can kick him in the sack and such.

  • 122 Bambams // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:40 PM

Just sighted JFK sitting in osbornes, happy hour with Shols and Gosling…..

They will be like two new signings!

  • 123 anthc // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:41 PM

A derby win is at least what we deserve we’ve lost the last two, last seasons defeat was a disgrace and the dross we watched against cardiff in the cup was a theft of our hard earned cash. Theres no reason we can’t go all out and get at them as we have nothing to lose or play for. The players need the fire in their belly and understand what it means to us. Hopefully clattermole and phil ‘loads of money’ bardsley might have been sold.

  • 124 GeordieTwo // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:43 PM

Please come back Lambsarse! Please! I won’t abuse you anymore. Scout’s Honour. :) This is important Dekka. We need you. We want you. Save us from puss face Joe.

  • 125 MrMojoRisin76 // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:44 PM

How fun would it be to hear in the pub before a game”It’s quarter to 3,we better get going,i want to try and kick Jabba’s sack off before kick off”

  • 126 GeordieTwo // Jan 30, 2014 at 5:50 PM

Lambykins? Lambykins are you out there reading this mate? Please come back. Even Tsunki wants you back. Mr. Puss Face has been good for a few laughs but now we need your firm hand on the tiller. At least Pards does. Come back and handle Alan’s tiller Dekka.
