Alan Pardew has given his press conference for the upcoming game against Sunderland early Saturday afternoon, and it was obvious he would be asked about 23 year-old Clement Grenier – and Alan still thinks Newcastle are in with a chance of getting the lad to Tyneside before Friday night.
Alan Pardew – still hopeful on Grenier
It’s fair to say that if Joe Kinnear and Mike Ashley are not able to get a replacement in – they will have again let the manager down, who does the very best with the players he has available – of course that’s also a good definition of the job he has at Newcastle.
This is what Alan said when asked about the possible transfer of Grenier to Newcastle:
“Not in terms of if the deal is finalised or is finished, so it’s ongoing as far as I’m aware.” “It’s two days left, we’ll have to wait and see. I’m obviously hopeful and that’s really where I sit today.”
“I think he has tremendous creative, technical ability.” “I think he is a player Newcastle fans would love to see at the football club but he’s still not our player so, until he is … I’ll wax lyrical about him then.”
“There’s no option, really, other than to do that (be patient), but we will have to see how we go in the next two days,”
Everything we’ve heard and seen about Grenier tells us he would be a terrific signing for Newcastle as a direct replacement for Cabaye.
So let’s hope we can get him on board before 11:00 pm tomorrow night – that’s a good 31 hours away – lots of time for Joe to get his first permanent signing for Newcastle. 😀
What do you think?

Comment #1I’ll repost this for you lads.
Lads got some substantial news here.
If we fail to get Clement Grenier we will go for Filip Duricic around €10million.
His agent: “It’s true about Newcastle,” his agent, Ulisses Santos, told One World Sports on Thursday. “I have been speaking with Alan Pardew this week so let’s see what has happened by the end of tomorrow.”
Player from Benfica acquiring an attacking midfielder role.

Comment #5aye, have to say, it looks like the Grenier caper is going to one of those “we tried but could not get it over the line”.
They are obviously trying hard and are serious. The question remains as to whether Lyon and the toon can agree a fee.
The player seems ambivalent whether he stays or goes.

So sad to see what is happening now. No relegation but no Europa or CL either, no cups, no new players, a total drunken incompetent embarrassment of a D.O.F, an average, ok, nothing special manager and the most turgid owner in a generation sucking away the lifeblood of the cub I’ve followed for 43 years.
Cabaye defined it perfectly ” I came to PSG to win things”
For the word definition of mediocre look under NUFC
Won’t stop 50000 perpetuating the mediocrity every home game. Therein lies the real obstacle to ever achieving change.
Shepherd and hall were crooks and gangsters and the kindest thing you can say about Ashley is at least you can see him coming.

You could be right mate, Pardew clearly wants Grenier here. Maybe he is pulling a few strings to make Lyon president reconsider quicker and accept the deal before we end up looking for another target.

Comment #37Grenier is not over until tomorrow night when the window closes.
You would expect Lyon to play hard ball, they think we have 20m burning a hole in our pockets (they might not know Mash), they know the window is closing and they have a player who seems ambivalent about a move (Cabella seemed much keener).
Does not mean a deal won’t be done, I expect this one to be taken to the brink by both clubs and they try to get the best deal for themselves. Depends who blinks first for me.

Comment #38We need a replacement for Cabaye now, it’s as simple as that.
LDJ plugs the gap that we knew we had in the squad and we’ve already lost one squad player in midfield with Jonas going on loan.
Tiote, Sissoko and Anite is decent but what happens when one or two of them are out? I’m happy with the idea of shuffling things round a bit with the likes of MYM, Sammy or Ben Arfa to come in, but not after just one injury/suspension!
Grenier to replace Cabaye and I’ll say we’ve got a decent squad. Then if we get Cabella in the summer I’ll be very happy. Well…once we account for Remy and LDJ finishing their loans and Colo possibly going back to Argentina…
