Ben Arfa Linked With Late Inter-Milan Move

12:21 pm, Friday, January 31st, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 73 Comments

The breaking news is that Inter-Milan are interested in taking Hatem Ben Arfa today, and the news is being reported on Italian site Tuttomercato.

ben arfa trapping ball

Ben Arfa – there’s an Inter link

We have to think this is one of those daft stories that get produced on the last day of the transfer window, and there’s just no way  Newcastle should be even thinking about selling Ben Arfa at the moment, since he could well fill that withdrawn striker role for the rest of the season, that Yohan Cabaye had.

Tuttomercato are reporting that Inter-Milan want the French winger in a late bid to get him to Italy.

Ben Arfa has been out of favor at Newcastle this season,  but whenever he does get a chance – like last Tuesday at Norwich – he was our best player.

And unless Newcastle want to see and hear the fury of their fans  - there should be no way the club are even thinking of letting Ben Arfa go – whatever fee Inter are willing to offer.

We cannot decimate our team just because top clubs come in with big money offers very late in the transfer window.

Mike Ashley has to understand  there’s more than just money in football – that keeping good players and building a top team is another thing that football is all about – especially at Newcastle United.

This has to be nonsense.

We hope. :(

Lets be realistic, we won’t sign anyone today, if were lucky we will get rid of obertan.

The powers that be have obviously settled for mid table mediocracy.

Now is the time (after tomorrow) for Pardew to bring our youngsters into the first team. Bigi,Armstrong,haidara/dummet and sammy

  • 6 valle // Jan 31, 2014 at 12:30 PM

Jepser… You are kinda arguing with youself while agreeing with me the same time. If we should have secured him BEFORE selling Cabaye as you say (Which is more or less what I said) Then we didnt offer Lyon enough to begin with. My point was that when we then finally agree with Lyon, we also offer the player peanuts instead of getting things done.

  • 7 SholaHeskey // Jan 31, 2014 at 12:30 PM

If we can get 20m for Ben Arfa he should go too. and if we use that 20m to pay someone to take Obertan it’s been a good window.

The approach for HBA is supposedly on loan, so won’t happen

However, with Pardews interview about the summer and players contracts being under 2 years (HBA will have 1 year left in the summer) if they came in with a bid of between £8-10 mil, I reckon he’d sell today

  • 10 BandB // Jan 31, 2014 at 12:37 PM

    TDS,

I agree that Ash has been very methodical, and is not simply “making mistakes.”
The club policy has been laid out for all to see, and it is being followed.
He has been far quicker, as you might expect, to grasp the true potential of the TV money.
It is the greatest incentive to inactivity since the inception of the Common Agricultural Policy.
All a club has to do to get a big fat subsidy at the end of every season is to stay in the division.
As you say, income from the paying fan is no longer critical. As you say, they are increasingly irrelevant. He can take as long a game-view as he likes, with no need for crowd-pleasing signings or cup runs.
As you say, the business case defies contradiction.

I am in no doubt tomorrow there will be trouble in the town nobody signed Sunderland playing well and I really can’t see us winning look at the Norwich game our end product is still terrible for the first time ever I am not looking forward to taking my seat in the stand for a derby game

headtheball – indeed JFK is a half wit. However, I really do not blame him -he should never have been appointed in the first place. Mr Tubbs is the man to blame. Why the hell employ old Joe – the bloke is medically unfit, and if rumours (lots of them I’ve heard personally) are correct in him getting pissed and giving it large in local hostelries are true -well were just storing up trouble and embarrassment for the future. He is not up to speed with modern football, can hardly string a couple of sentences together, has obviously been gagged by Tubbs, has the ignominy of having his notes published in the programme -when it’s clear to all he’s not the author.
in this day and age we should have got someone with the requisite skills -and it’s Mr Tubbs’ fault entirely.

There’s higher chances we will sell a key player then another player coming in.

Kinnear is probably having his beer right now in his room.

  • 17 pawl250 // Jan 31, 2014 at 12:45 PM

Worst case scenario no one leaves ….

    Krul
    Elliot
    Alnwick

Conclusion – Not bad, Elliot is a standard back up, great distribution, but lacks what class Krul has were it matters…. stopping goals.

    Debuchy
    RTaylor
    Williamson
    Mbiwa
    Coloccini
    STaylor
    Haidara
    Dummett
    Santon

Conculsion – Strongest defence we have had in years! And not bad back up. Perhaps abit short at right back if Debuchy is injured, or more likely suspended. Santon only cover, then your shifting natural centre backs out wide. Still enough to get by. I think the only one I would like to see leave is RTaylor, he is on 40k a week, which is way too much in my opinion.

    Tiote
    Anita
    Gosling
    Gouffran
    Sissoko
    Sammy
    Ben Arfa
    Bigirmana
    Marveaux
    Obertan

Conclusion – Without Cabaye we lack that class in the middle of the park, or should I say class that does it all. No argument that Ben Arfa has class, but he defensive ability is questionable at best. Feel we need another addition to the squad this window. Siem De Jong would be my choice. I now question the loan of Jonas, he is on high wages but doubt Norwich are paying them all. Gosling ending his contract in the summer would like to see another 2 additions made at that time. Obertan has to leave. For me Bigirmana needs to be on the fringe now, time to step up little man.

    Cisse
    Shola
    De Jong
    Remy

Cisse needs confidence, Shola is useless, De Jong and Remy on loan worries me slightly. Personally its arguably the strongest strike force we have had, maybe Ba being the exception. But lets be honest alot of fire power in that small group. Would like to see youngster Adam Armstrong brought into the fold alot more. Remy, Cisse out at this moment De Jong is for me the only striker worthy to play. Needs strengthened considerably in the summer, assuming De Jong and Remy do not come, Shola out of contract leaves Cisse the ONLY current first team striker at the club. Loans for me are no good as seen in Remys case, perhaps De Jong may prove otherwise.

No one should be surprised, everyone knows how Mash runs the club.
Next season we’ll be in a dog fight at the wrong end of the table after more players are sold or leave.
Strange club but fans still complain but are still willing to give Mash there money. I will always support Newcastle but he’s not getting my coin.
he’s taking the p..s but people still support him.

For me if we have everyone fit it would be

    ————————- Krul
    Debuchy – Williamson – Mbiwa – Santon
    ———– Sissoko – Tiote – Anita
Ben Arfa ———- De Jong —— Gouffran

Elliot, STaylor, Haidara, Gosling, Marveaux, Cisse, Shola

That in my opinion is our strongest 11 currently for tomorrow.

I am a little confused by the Grenier situation. We did not have a bid accepted by Lyon, so why did Grenier reject the chance to play for us? wouldn’t a bid need to be accepted, and terms offered before he could reject the chance to play for us.

Anyways, I do not blame him not wanting to come. Grenier’s agent would have told him that if he performed for NUFC, he would not be rewarded, which is what happened to Cabaye. Cabaye is a few million out of pocket by not moving sooner. We are not an exciting prospect for players with potential, they will not sign for a club that will not reward them for playing at a higher level to what they are being paid.

Why can’t something be done about teams like Chelsea?,buying young starlets then loaning them out straight away the latest d1ckhead is Kurt Zouma.Haven’t they got about 25 players out on loan at the minute?.I had a childhood friend, his parents owned their own business and they had a bit of money. After the World Cup in 1990 he bought a gold Mitre ball,it was cool as sh1t,the spoilt b@stard wouldn’t let us play with it incase it got scratched.Chelsea are that kid.

  • 58 Macas // Jan 31, 2014 at 1:30 PM

Ancientcoptic – That’s not entirely true, he would have received a higher wage than he is on now if he had signed for us, and the club have shown that if you play well you will get a new improved contract, as in the case of Tiote for example

piers – newcastle has lots of heroes – bobby robson, alan shearer, jimmy nail, steve bruce (did a great job at sunderland), paulo di canio, jackie milburn to name a few.

  • 65 Ancientcoptic // Jan 31, 2014 at 1:43 PM

Macas – This is not the point I made.

I am certain that Grenier would have got higher wages than he is on now, but if he comes and turns out be an exceptional player, he is unlikely to be offered improved terms… when did Cabaye has his terms improved? he was certainly better than what he was being paid.

As for Tiote, he was only on 8k per week, he got his terms improved to 40k a week, which was at a time when Chelsea were sniffing around. Those are around the wages that Cabaye started on… Tiote was given more parity with his team mates.

Grenier would probably be coming in on around 40+k a week, it is going above wages like that when we run into problems.

There is a big difference between improving the wages of a guy on 8k, and improving the wages of a guy on 40k… if a player is playing at the ability of a 100k per week player, they will not get paid what they are worth at our club.

We cannot afford to reward players that have potential to be top class; therefore why would a player that believes they has the potential to be playing top class football in 1/2 years want to sign for us, knowing we will not reward them, and run their contract down eventually selling them. This is to the detriment of the player.

  • 66 Ancientcoptic // Jan 31, 2014 at 1:44 PM

    Transfer Sage

Why would a club give another club permission to speak to one of their players, if they have not had an acceptable bid? Isn’t that giving the game away.

Why not follow Ed Harrison’s mantra
‘Support the team and not the regime’.
In a busy week I have been dipping in and out
of here to catch up on any transfer activity only
to have to plough through the pestilence and
war drivel analogies from t4c’s finest. The
latest to liken Ashley to Hitler!

Preying on short term fan vulnerabilities
as the close of the window approaches.
They just don’t get it- the vast majority of
fans want to win and enjoy football matches.
    Misleading comments on season tickets
and expecting fans not to recognise that
the team on the field now is a good deal
better and younger than the team when
Ashley first arrived. The so called action
group have run out of ideas- try changing
    those constantly peddling the message
it is not working and it’s driving fans off
    the blog. Persuade not bully.

At present they are like First World War
Generals( in their own pompous mindset)
Of Cavalry, struggling to come to terms
with poison gas, aeroplanes and tanks.
They are blundering about in a world
that they do not understand. They are
drawn from a narrow set of experience
that they do not understand what an
enormous part of our life is taken up
with being a toon fan. I ask you – one
of the self declared t4c leading lights
declared on here, that he was off to
Goodison Park to display his banner.
Only to sheepishly admit finally that
he had been refused entry, with his
banner. So much for a man on a
mission- you couldn’t make it up.
Talking of on a mission- You need a Mission Statement
    - even Ashley realised that.
