Newcastle Could Lose More Players Today

8:53 am, Friday, January 31st, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 62 Comments

Luuk de Jong has come in on loan to Newcastle to play games, and if you are Newcastle’s second striker at the moment – Papiss Cisse – the Senegal International has to be wondering how many game he’ll get through the end of the season, and we could even see Papiss leave today on loan to another club.

papiss cisse stoke penalty

Papiss Cisse – could leave today?

That would be a big mistake from Newcastle’s viewpoint, but there’s news that could happen today.

And fringe players like Sylvain Marveaux and Gabby Obertan could also leave, as it’s now obvious that neither Frenchman is in Alan Pardew’s plans for Newcastle’s future.

There are clubs interested in taking Papiss Cisse and Marveaux on loan, and some French clubs interested in Gabby Obertan.

Of those three players the only one we could keep today is Papiss Cisse, and that’s because our biggest weakness now that Cabaye has gone is scoring goals, and to let a striker leave today would be a little ludicrous.

And with Cabaye leaving and not being replaced – Dan Gosling will be staying on Tyneside until he becomes a free agent in the summer – and then he will leave the club.

But he could see some playing time through the end of the season.

We really have to hope for some good news on the transfer front today – but the truth is the outlook is not particularly good.

Comments welcome.

Gunna be pretty Toxic in ground tomoro if we get outplayed and lose to the Mackems again.

Not really looking forward to it.

  • 2 spitfire_ // Jan 31, 2014 at 8:58 AM

Only Newcastle see the transfer window as a opportunity for making money and weakening the team.

  • 3 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2014 at 8:58 AM

for those wanting tickets, viagogo is official partner of nufc for selling not wanted tickets

    some left for derby

  • 4 mindshaft // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:00 AM

I almost feel like giving up, we’re on the verge of the derby and all we get is depressing news from the club. Pards seems well pee’d off regarding signings although he surely knew nobody was coming in and knows JFK is unable to persuade anyone decent to join the toon.
Pards and the players must be moping round seeing our better players moving out with no replacements coming in, a general air of depression around the training ground whereas Scum are on a roll and out of the bottom 3 – doesn’t look good for tomorrows game

  • 5 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:00 AM

With Cabaye going, Pardew has lost the way of nicking a point or three from Cabaye’s individual ability. With Remy out we lose his individual ability.

I’d be very surprised if we win tomorrow.

Poyet is trying to get them playing football, even with a lot poorer players than we have and their form is improving all the time.

He could have done a lot more with our set of players if he’s showimg improvement with theirs.

It’s going to be containment tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to it at all.

I hope that wasn’t aimed at me mate, coz I’ll tell you right now I doubt you’ll find many people with a bigger passion for the club. If I was just interested in glory why would it hurt so bad. I have been an advocate for positivity on here as best I could be, I will follow the team til the day I die. Every window I say 1 more chance Ashley show us what you’ve got. It’s hard to stay so passionate when the owner repeatedly drops a dump on your chest. Only so much you can take. I have always praised the good the bloke has done, but fcuk me mate we are gluttons for punishment.

Feel free to refrain from calling us cnuts aswell you jumped up little torag

  • 8 Mr Funk // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:03 AM

I will probably repeat this over the course of today.

I think NUFC could buy (or loan) 3 midfielders today without breaking the bank:

Filip Djuricic – apparently available for 10 million euros or you could get on loan

Siem de Jong – wants to leave Ajax – could be available for 10 million euros. However, he is just about to return from injury, which could make a medical difficult.

Lewis Holtby – apparently available for loan from Spurs.

So, for the price of the supposed bids made for Grenier, we could have 2-3 midfielders of good quality.

Finally, it seems we are trying to get rid of older players, who are on high wages e.g. Marveaux, Cisse, Guiterrez, so we can bring in players on cheaper wages who are younger.

  • 9 check the toastie // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:03 AM

Robert – we should have appointed Poyet whilst we had the chance, he has performed a miracle at the scum, their squad is shite and he has them in a cup final and gradually climbing the league. Make no mistake I honestly believe, barely any of there players would make our first team.

  • 10 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:03 AM

Possibly the most hypocritical heap of sh*te ever posted on here

Every day you complain, and whinge about people thinking its a computer game
Then go on to complain and post crap about your fantasy league!!!

Stick to the other blogs if you hate this one so much fella, and get ready to dust of your “wait til the window shuts” speech for next window, you’ve already used it for last summer!

  • 11 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:05 AM

The confidence boost and belief they’ll have got be reaching the final will benefit them greatly.

It’s sad to say but I’m finding it extremely hard to be excited about this game.

Selling one of our best players knowing that he won’t be replaced is simply dreadful and highlights what Ashley running the club is all about.

    Constant lies.

Kevin told us this straight away, but a few still take the propaganda bait.

If that was true they would if been moved on in the summer or early in the window, not on the last day

If anybody else is allowed to leave the squad it would be criminal. But maybe thats the best word to describe ashley and his shady dealings. He has in the past left newcastle squads in more sh#t that a farmers wellies. #siberski #kuqi

You are as fickle as anyone. So now you ” rate” Pardew. Changed your tune a bit from the recent 4 straight losses, ”containing”’ football and 1 goal scored! Well tbf maybe I did too.

When Pardew finally worked out Cabaye’s best advanced position we did look better at West ham that’s true and even without Cabaye we still played very well and were extremely unlucky at Norwich. Albeit WHU and Norwich are 2 of the worst teams I’ve ever seen.

You can’t help but admire poyet going into Sunderland demanding he had a say in transfers and managing to get rid of their D.O.F.

Trouble is I really wouldn’t Pardew involved in transfers as it would man more obertans and Tomkins, bent and Noble standard players.

  • 18 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:08 AM

That’s the key word that some more concentrated on finance seem to miss
The season is a long haul, a new player can massively boost the confidence of the squad and the fans
IF it turns out we lose a couple more today it sends the wrong message to the squad the fans and the league

  • 19 Toon Tang // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:09 AM

Has anyone started judging joe on his signings yet ? Or are we to wait till tomorrow morn ? Any advice would be appreciated.

  • 20 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:09 AM

It was aimed at whomever believes it was aimed at them. If you don’t think it was aimed at you, it probably wasn’t.

I agree that things have been better and I agree that Ashley has made some big mistakes. But with the final day of the window still upon us, some really miserable fans are jumping the gun here.

If this wants to be the blog that everyone comes on to whinge, then so be it. Every time someone posts something positive amidst all the negativity they get ignored or shot down.

  • 21 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:10 AM

somebody just uploaded this to youtube, is it Kinnear talking to Grenier?

  • 22 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:11 AM

it’s not that bad, people on here to discuss the positives, but they are getting less and less and the things which are positive seem almost token gestures from the club at times which is a shame that people have started thinking that way.

  • 23 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:11 AM

A quick google of the numerous NUFC fanzines reveals that pretty much every single one is disenchanted or downright angry at goings on at the club at the minute, but obviously people who dedicate a lot of time to do these fanzines are probably all glory supporter like TDS says. Why else would they spend time, many of them doing it as well as a full time job, doing all that if they weren’t.

It is lucky TDS can show us the way as our only real supporter.

Anyone going on about how others aren’t proper fans because there opinions differ is probably the worst type of blogger you can get on here. I can put up with the WUMs and the trolls, even the occasional but to question other peoples support for the Toon because they don’t hold the same view as you is moronic. Each is entitled to their view, and no matter what their thoughts is no less of a fan than anyone else. Seriously, grow up.

  • 24 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:12 AM

Check, I have a few pals who are Sunderland supporters and they are impressed with what Poyet is trying to make them do with their play.

I said to them he’ll have them playing some good football when they weren’t sure. Sure enough they are agreeing with me, plus they’re going to a cup final.

We, on the other hand, drive the equivalent of a Ferrari with only 2 gears because Ashley and his ‘ambition’ with lack of signings and a sacked lower league manager in charge will never put in place those extra gears.

Why should we just be content with mediocrity at the expense of Ashley making more money?

    We shouldn’t be.

  • 25 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:13 AM

I was listening to total sport on wednesday night, they had a 10 year old kid phone up….they asked him about losing cabaye and he said…well we bought him for 5mil and sold for 20 so it’s good business.

It’s that what being a football fan is like for kids these days? they are told finances are more important than the team?

he did go on to say that we need somebody in to replace him, but it’s sad when kids worry about the money and not just excited by the football

  • 26 Belfast // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:13 AM

Today should be a non event, as per usual

  • 27 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:13 AM

Because there are a few people who post loads on here and constantly complain. There are a lot more people who post rarely and are actually balanced or positive.

It’s not that fans don’t have the right to be disappointed that Cabaye has left and we haven’t brought in a replacement, it’s the degree of negativity that is absolutely pathetic. We’re 8th in the PL FFS and we’ve still got a squad capable of staying there.

Some of us grasp the fact that we all want success but it takes time, others would seemingly want the impossible.

  • 28 check the toastie // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:13 AM

Wouldn’t be surprised if we get rid of Cisse and Marv today freeing some ‘wages’ up, and then go back in for Grenier with an increased bid or some other player who we will struggle to ‘get over the line’.

Its all just a farce, probably trying to sign 13 million pound players then offer them 30k a week, the whole thing just stinks.

Shola will play tomorrow and will be utter garbage shite and my head will explode, hopefully getting the match abandoned as we will already be a few goals down.

  • 29 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:15 AM

even the occasional mackem that should say

  • 30 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:15 AM

I question the support of any so called fan when they repeatedly publically threaten to stop supporting the team because of a poor transfer window. Especially when it could turn around over the next 14 hours or so.

It’s got nothing to do with opinions, it’s about actions.

  • 31 SholaHeskey // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:16 AM

compared to other windows/seasons this blog is far more positive…think of the negativity when carroll was sold.

  • 32 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:16 AM

I understand your point we should still have enough to remain 8th but look at norwich game, 1 player sold and 1 injured (cabs and gouff) and we have to go back to sammy ameobi, one more injury and it will be gosling….we need to be adding more depth, not losing it.

Nobody is saying go out and spend 100mil, but it’s almost the other extreme at the moment, 2 loan signings all year and we have let a few go as well (including our main man).

  • 33 Scottishmag1 // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:18 AM

    SSN latest, no surprise…..

Newcastle sources have told us that they are not looking to sign Benfica’s Filip Djuricic.

  • 34 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:18 AM

I’ve posted about twice on the fantasy football league! And considering that is actually based on real football stats then your argument is pretty weak. If I tell you that Ramsey has scored X goals and made X assists this season because I saw it in fantasy football, that’s actually true. Maybe you didn’t understand that point…

I say again to wait for the end of this window. If we don’t sign a replacement for Cabaye then every fan has the right to be disappointed, but they need some perspective here! It’s not a disaster!

  • 35 SholaHeskey // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:19 AM

TDS who threatened to stop supporting the toon if we didnt sign anyone in Jan? i must of missed that post.

  • 37 Himanshu Dhingra // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:20 AM

Anyone thinks this is a sign of Sale? we are safe and moving players out by the dozens

  • 38 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:21 AM

People threaten it often, you will notice that a lot who threaten this time also threatened last time. But they are still here. It isn’t anyone’s place to question another fans loyalties.

There are people on here who don’t think you are a proper fan because of your positivity. I think that is equally ridiculous as well. Just no need for it.

The blog is far better when people discuss points of view or argue their case rather than resorting to that kind of sniping, or the pointless insults that get thrown around. You are generally an interesting blogger to have a discussion with, but things like that just detract from whoever posts them mate.

  • 39 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:21 AM

Truly worrying if that’s how young supporters see football these days

Save your breathe on the strength in depth argument, tried having the same one the other night only for TDS to completely mis interpret the point and shoot it down as per

  • 40 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:21 AM

we may have improved the starting 11 the least couple years but we have just replaced first 11 with first 11 players

we still have the same dross, obertan, marv, gosling, shola, saylor as our backups

  • 41 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:23 AM

That’s not true and you know it. Before people spout off about strength in depth, can they just compare our squad to last season? And then the season before? Etc. Can they seriously still claim that our squad is getting weaker??

And how about comparing our players with the likes of Southampton or Swansea? Clearly better I’d say. With Everton? About the same. Are Everton fans complaining all of the time? I don’t know…but they have been in the PL since the beginning I believe and have had several top 10 finishes in recent season so they have earned the right to be up there and they are also a big club. Every club above us has the right to consider themselves a big club, I believe that every one of them has been in the CL since we have and every one of them has won a trophy since we last did.

We all want what’s good for our club, but that’s no reason to be overly negative and downright depressing.

  • 42 jordijohnty // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:24 AM

You lot on here are so goddammed miserable, you dont deserve to support the toon.We are 3 points behind man u who will probably get 4th spot. We will get 3 quality players in today who will make the difference as we fight for that champions spot. The way you lot react you would think we will get no-one and end up below mid table. Its in touching distance. Keep the faith!

  • 43 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:25 AM

We might sign someone, we might not. Pardew doesn’t seem overly optimistic, and I haven’t seen him like that in any transfer window to date. He normally says that he hopes to get one in. He has said here Grenier is our only target. Grenier has said he isn’t moving.

Granted he may be just saying that to protect any other ongoing talks, but even he seems, from his words, the most despondent I have seen him in his time here.

    It will be answered today…

Our fears will be rested with the final day of transfer business.. and it will be there for all to see if we have a tiny bit of respect for us as a club, or it will be proven for all eyes to see thats its time to ditch this boat called NUFC.

Why should we support our club if they are holding em up with a terror that is Ashley and CO….. a very sad sad sad period I just have had enough.

  • 46 check the toastie // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:26 AM

Robert – same here, work with loads of Mackems and it has to be said that Poyet has done a great job, Pardew in charge of the Mackems squad would be rock bottom, god knows how he would have coped with all the games they have played recently.

They should be more fatigued than any other team in the league, however not a peep out of Poyet in regards tiredness, they just seem to keep ticking over.

Hope we play the same team as Norwich tomorrow but LDJ takes Remy’s place up top, we should murder them. We wont though. Pardew will come out with how the squad has been affected by Cabaye going and how it affected his preparation, boring lying charlatan.

  • 47 catchy in norway // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:26 AM

    my fear

tomorrow, no one is really talking about tomorrow, in times gone by we would have had loads of banta about what we are going to do to them,

I think we all know we should win the game at home, we have the better team and a good crowd ,

I fear we only have HBA that will be the shining light, because of lack of a game plan, so should HBA not play, we will revert back to containing defensive football,

and hope to sneak a 1 nil,,

sad fact is , I know GP is sitting there in training all this week with pictures of every one of our players drumming it into his players telling them they can win,

pardew will put a speech on the dressing room wall from way back when that most of our players wont even grasp

  • 48 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:26 AM

Seeing Shola upfront as the focal point of an attack is enough to question what is going on.

With a lack of abundant chances created in the box anyway, plus a guy who very infrequently scores and our freekick/long range specialist gone, we are set for a very nervous derby day.

If you don’t set your team up with players who can get goals AND create a pattern of play which creates chances INSIDE the box, then over the course of a number of games those statistics will show. That’s just how it works. Nice one, Alan.

  • 51 Lilongwe Geordie // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:28 AM

I think we have the basis of a good 11 here, and I am looking forward to seeing a front three of Goofy/HBA, Remy and LDJ, with LDJ in the centre and 2 of the other 3 feeding off him. Sissoko Anita and Tiote are good enough to hold there own, and the back line while not spectacular is okay.

But you just have to look at the bench on Tuesday to see how thin we are in certain areas if we get any injuries.

  • 52 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:28 AM

My point of the 10 minutes wasted was that I trawled through every post this morning. Virtually every one was overly negative with the odd person popping up with some “perspective” who was usually just ignored. Many were the same people complaining to each other like a group of old housewives…

And yes, there have been several people saying they no longer love the club, are falling out of love with the club, will get rid of their season ticket or won’t go to SJP again. Sometimes they caveat with “until MA leaves” but I say MA is not NUFC and he might be around for a long time…

  • 53 Spoof // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:29 AM

as you say it is ok for people to have opinions as you say, as long as they accept that mine is always correct lol

Seriously though you are correct and well said, I do feel that there are a number of us who can and do banter in the correct manner, but it is a shame that we get the odd brainless mouth-piece who only wants to slag off and course problems, I do try to avoid them where I can but at times the blood just boils and I respond, and when I calm down I feel embarrassed for letting them irritate me.

  • 55 Rotonda heights // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:31 AM

Even you can not deny there seems to be a big ”disconnect” and a real sense of disillusionment going on between the fans and the club right now.

No relegation, but no CL, EL or any domestic cups either, best player sold, singing section closed, a foul mouthed drunk with vascular dementia as our D.O.F, an average but clearly limited and not topline manager, a super tacky cheap sponsor and the most classless owner, well since….Shepherd!!

It’s a Mexican stand off. We ‘re not in danger of anything good or really bad!! ”No ambition United” is a phrase seemingly gathering popularity and it’s not difficult to see why.

  • 56 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:32 AM

Check, good point about their extra number of games as well, yes.

If you are enjoying your football it’s amazing how much longer you can play for. The enjoyment of the game just keeps you going.

It’s tiring for me a lot of the time watching us contain apart from a good half every few games or so.

Have an attacking plan and be ruthless with it.

  • 57 Our Toon // Jan 31, 2014 at 9:40 AM

Mate whether we like it or not MA is currently NUFC, he’s an owner who just doesn’t care which in turn really annoys the fans. I’ve said this before but this season is the first time I didn’t renew my season ticket (in 15 years) the first time I haven’t traveled to away games (in 15 years)….the first time I missed a game in 15 years was the Citeh away game, all because of the owner.

This guy is killing the passion our city has for our football club. MA will be around for a long time because we continue to pay him through our teeth and turn up in droves, 3 consecutive home games next season with no more than 10k attendance should and a sharp decline is sales (especially around the NE) for SD goods would chase this cancer out of our club. The only way to bring back the happiness is by taking our club back. No one will do this for us we will have to do it ourselves

  • 59 stuart no9 // Jan 31, 2014 at 10:01 AM

there is one word on this blog that keeps popping up and that is ‘mistake’ Ashley has made a’ mistake’ selling him- Ashley has made a mistake not buying him , ashley made a mistake not buying in this window or that window. ashley has not made a mistake,Ashley has very rarely made a mistake when it comes to money.Ashley ‘KNOWS ‘ he hasnt made a mistake when it comes tobuying players or in our case ‘HASNT’.Ashley has been here since 2007. A man with his business knowledge dosnt make the SAME mistake after nearly 7 years, only a complete idiot would carry on making the same mistake after 7 years before realising he is doing something wrong. Ashley is not a complete idiot. Ashley knows exactley what he is doing. The complete idiots are us.We keep on thinking- this year we are going to finish 6th – this year we are going to do this – this year we are going to do that- this year we are going to build a team to go places – AFTER 7 YEARS WHY ARE WE STILL THINKING ITS GOI NG TO HAPPEN ‘THIS YEAR’ ? sorry but its not. never will.
All ashleys ‘ mistakes ‘ as some people call them , are carefully thought through’ mistakes ‘ to make him millions of pounds richer and put us fans firmly in their place . He is telling us that we are going to have a team to be proud of – over his dead body. Mistakes? not on your life. Fans are making the BIG mistake by turning out in their thousands and lining his pockets.
Looking back over the 7 years he has been here , all you ‘DO GOOD’ fans who rant on time and time again on how we all must support the team, where has it got you ? nowhere, thats where it has got you , after 7 years we are no better off than we were before he came , oops, sorry , i forgot , he has ‘balanced’ the books, a statement still used when needed.
I really believe, if fans have this club at heart, if they want to see nufc achieve what we should be achieving, if we want to bring back Newcastle ‘UNITED ‘ , we have to stop going . We have to show this man, he is not wanted, 50000 every week is not a sign that he is not wanted, but 50000 moan when he pulls stunts like he has this week.It is not down to ashley to make this club great, it is down to us . stop going and get him out.

I cant see us signing anyone today.Looking at pardwhos face yesterday in press conference his body language said it all.Even if we did sign someone they wouldn’t be available against the unwashed.Early reports saying Cisse and Gouffran not in squad.Oh dear I am not confident about the game tomorrow one bit. It’s all we have to play for now our pride and it doesn’t bare thinking about losing to them again.I haven’t seen so many makem shirts on the streets, god help us if they win tomorrow.:( 🙁
