Newcastle Face Big Decision On Ben Arfa This Summer

3:53 pm, Friday, January 31st, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 451 Comments

Ben Arfa has been at Newcastle now for three and a half years, and come this summer he will have one year left on the four and a half year Newcastle contract he signed while still injured with that double leg fracture in early January of 2011, and Newcastle will have a decision to make on the player.

ben arfa

Hatem Ben Arfa – Newcastle have decision to make

Newcastle will not allow Ben Arfa to run his contract down and become a free agent in July of 2015, and so the club will have to decide whether to offer the 26 year-old French winger an extension to his contract, or else try to sell him in the summer, before his value in the transfer market starts to decline over the last year of his contract.

Ben Arfa is and will always will be a match winner, and if he is sold there will be an awful lot of Newcastle fans not happy – if indeed that decision is made.

Ben Arfa has a decent record on Tyneside, and he’s appeared 78 times for Newcastle with 14 goals and 19 assists – and he should be given a chance to fill that withdrawn striker role,  now that Yohan Cabaye has left.

Certainly Ben Arfa has all the skill in the world, and you would expect that if he gets a chance in the middle, he will be able to hit the back of the net.

Newcastle fans love to have players like Ben Arfa in the side, and let’s tell the truth – it is players like Ben Arfa who get fans to go to the games.

And to his credit, Ben Arfa has matured a lot since he arrived on Tyneside, and it must have been frustrating for the 26 year-old to be on the sidelines most of the season.

We hope he gets his chance in the final 15 games of this season, and we’ll just have to wait until the summer to see what Newcastle will do.

What do you think?

    No deadlines day news then?,…..surprising

Ed, you know Benny has a big decision to make as well. Surely he doesn’t want to sit on our bench.

…I don’t see this one ending well for (either)

  • 3 spitfire_ // Jan 31, 2014 at 3:59 PM

The next season will be very very difficult. There is no way in the summer to buy at least 2 first choise strikers and one youngster, Cabaye’s replacement, a proper winger and to sort out Benny’s contract… and also to “resist” to some bids…

  • 4 ilovetoon8788 // Jan 31, 2014 at 3:59 PM

I think a better manager may be able to fulfill Arfa potential. But he’s alrdy 26 and has very bad decision making. Doubt he’ll improve so much, which is why no top clubs want him.

I love Ben Arfa, always uplifting when his name is on the teamsheet, I think it is the fact that Pardew can be clueless but at least we have one individual who can produce a moment of magic by himself, he has his issues (fat) and needs to sort himself out before its too late and he has wasted his gift.

Pardew doesn’t help him for me, but hes maybe an absolute nightmare to manage and motivate.

He is an enigma Benny Boy, shame he cant work on his fitness he could be really special.

I hope you guys going to the game this weekend gives them all hell!

Ben3Arfa – that is some seriously poisonous shit you are coming out with, totally out of order.

you all think its bad for you? match is on here at 6am…. and my son has a friendly at 11… :)

    SholaHeskey

Thanks. I don’t trust what these sites would do to my laptop, and as I use it for work too, I won’t risk it. Not sure how many pubs around where I live would risk the dodgy satellite for this match either…and doubt there’s any easy way to fund out.

  • 13 SholaHeskey // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:07 PM

play him for the rest of the season and he will either win us games or lose us games but we will know where to go from there…make him play the whole 90 and in training make him run with 20kg on his back. job done

  • 14 check the toastie // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:08 PM

As far as im concerned Lee Charnley is pretty much the main man to get transfers in, its Carr, Joe and Parsnip to agree the players.

Its funny how Mike gets the plaudits last January for signing 5 players and pretty much Joe gets hammered for no signings in the summer and now. It all rests with the Fat Man, nobody else. Its his money.

  • 15 DokToon // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:10 PM

    shola,

also tell him croissaints are fattening, and ease up on the escargo…

  • 16 GeordieTwo // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:10 PM

We’re saved mates. Our savior Dekka has been spotted at the training ground. Latest quotes:
“What the f**k has Joe been up to then? Where is that pinhead anyway? Right, then I’ll put in a quick bid for Bryan Ruiz!”

  • 17 GeordieTwo // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:12 PM

    More exciting news from Llambykins:
“Right then I’ve just begun to sort things. I’ve got Shola signed to a 10 year extension, I’m renegotiating Obertan’s contract and Gosling is our AMF of the future. Everything is back under control.”

  • 18 SholaHeskey // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:13 PM

TDS, thats true with the hassle you had on here last thing you want is a virus on work equipment. just read the bbc commentary..not live as such but get to find out the action a with a minute or two delay (i did that for the norwich game)

normally pubs have it on blackboards but if you’re from/are down south i dont suppose its top priority to the locals (our game that is) and may not be on.

  • 19 check the toastie // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:13 PM

Joe is just the fall guy who bleeds the club of a salary for doing f#ck all.

He’s not that bad, I mean I don’t think I would turn that job down, sounds cool.

  • 20 GeordieTwo // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:15 PM

Does anybody have Messi’s private number? Joe is going to put in a quick derisory bid. But the helicopter is available. Talk about first class treatment.

  • 21 kevymartins // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:16 PM

To the last comment directed at me can’t rememebr who it was.

Yes he is 31 and probably an arse hole but he is a decent player and what other option do we have? I bet you slot hoolahan in behind De jong and Remy and he will be class..Time is running out and I hope wer’e signing him because we need a CAM and there is no chance were gona sign a Cabella or Griener so I hope we get him even on loan to the end of the season.

  • 22 SholaHeskey // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:16 PM

Dok, he’s been told – i think there is a language barrier and if you’re american you surely have a way to record tv – get the match recorded and watch it after juniors match – and get some beers in!

    :)

  • 23 kevymartins // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:17 PM

They just said a un named Premier League club has made a fourth bid for him. I duno I just have a gut feeling it’s us.

  • 24 lesh // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:18 PM

Might as well sell Ben Arfa as well and that along with the others who’ll be away’ll mean a near total rebuild. We all saw what happened when Sunderland brought in a boat load of new faces.

Will they have all the new faces lined up and ready to sign as soon as the summer window opens? Fat chance and Pardew’ll have a bloody difficult job on his hands.

Kinnear, Director of Football? I’m sure if Ashley were honest *harumph*, even he’d admit he bought a pup having been taken in by Kinnear’s flannel after a few pints.

Ashley really ought to persuade Kinnear now that his health or something’s suffering and go now for his own good. Kinnear’s performance may just (nay should) encourage him to get someone in who knows the ins and out of the business of football in 2014.

  • 25 GeordieTwo // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:18 PM

Some very welcome words from Joe to calm us in our hour of need:
“What the f**k are those Geordie wankers on about now? They couldn’t find their ****holes with a mirror and a set of binoculars. I’m out here working me fingers to the bone for them and all they can do is whinge.”

  • 26 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:19 PM

    SholaHeskey

Exactly. Not from down south but live in Surrey now so don’t fancy my chances of watching it sadly…maybe it will be on the radio though. Otherwise, yeah, it’s live text commentary. Not ideal but I’m still grateful to have it!

  • 28 toonicle // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:20 PM

He should have been playing in that withdrawn striker role this season even with Cabaye in the side.

  • 29 Tsunki // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:20 PM

Its a tricky thing to speculate on Hatem now though. It looks like he will start getting a run of games together. Pardew will also have to swap things a bitnow Cabs is no more and Remy is out for 3 games, and in truth De Jong needs to displace him anyway as his loan term is up in summer so building a team round him would be pointless. With an option on De Jong and you never know Benny Sissoko Anita and Gouffran gelling with him it could all be completely different in summer, on the other hand it may very well be worse tha we thought. Looks like we have no choice but to wait and see. Again. Thanks Fat Man.

as expected. which is why im going to bed now. i know how the club is run, and its guaranteed no replacement for cabaye.

Ashley wants to see if anyone else can step up the plate. giving a chance to the likes of Gosling till the end of this season.

It could save him 20 million quid. We are already almost guaranteed safety which is Ashley target.

No reason to rush a Cabaye replacement.

Roblee7 – just head to the gate, loads of pubs starting with Bar Beyond will defo have the match on, atmosphere is pretty good in there as well.

The nine bar under the ground is pretty good as it has live audio from the crowd and the TV’s are cool, will be probably packed mind so get there early.

Loads of pubs in Newcastle show the matches man….the Hotspur is my favourite. If you are anti Ashley, dont be a plum and go to number 9.

  • 57 Premiership Manager // Jan 31, 2014 at 4:34 PM

Personally I would sell him tomorrow as he has had too many chances and unbalances the team.

Before people jump on the bandwagon you need to ask yourselves why we have lost such a high percentage of games when Cabaye did not play – It’s because on the majority of occasions HBA played in his place.

Also ask yourself why Debuchy has come into his own this season and has been MoM. Again it’s because he hasn’t had to cover for HBA.

Why has Anita looked so good, one because he’s had first team football and two because he hasn’t had to cover and track back because HBA has lost possession.

It’s all about balance and HBA is a luxury not many teams can afford, hence the lack of bids and offers from other teams.

My guess is the AC Milan rumour is not true, they have secured Taarabt and he was always their first option.

I’m not convinced we’ll sign anybody else this window and I don’t think we’ll suffer too badly but we will miss Cabaye as his tackling was a key part of his game that gave us the balance we had in midfield. Personally I think we may see more of Santon more in midfield with Haidara at LB as they play well together buts not let forget Goufran who has been very good for us this season.

We may also see Remy out to the left with LDJ up front however we’ll have to se how it all comes together.

We’ve played some good passing football this year and the changes have come in gradually so lets just wait and see how it goes

seems to me ashleys business plan is like running a strip club… sure theres some lookers, a few ugly ones… but as long as you pay the door fee, and spend some coin, hes happy to have you…

only difference is, ashleys keeps the women til they get too long in the tooth, doesnt address the decrepit decor… and if you argue about the lass that was dancing for you, and her teeth fall out, you get tossed out of there… no worries, theres a long line just waiting to get in adn take your table…

Prem Manager, interesting analysis but have you considered we might have lost those games Cabaye hadnt played in because …Cabaye hadnt played in them?

Its stretching belief a bit far that an individual player sabotages an entre midfield and the defender behind him. At the same time we need to completely whitewash over the oportunities he creates in matches where we would struggle to penetrate the opposition defence at all. Using your reasoning, we could say we failed to win the Norwich game because HBA didnt score.

He came back from an injury a little overweight, which can sometimes happen with a player… that is going back quite a long time ago, and he got himself into shape within 2 weeks.

Where are the Ashley Apologistas gone ? Looks like Cabaye had us by the balls. How come we can sell our man early, but other clubs can tell us to get lost? Oh, I know the answer – mid table obscurity is acceptable – thats the reason its ok to sell your star mad mid season. Surely we could have easily convinced him to stay till the summer, settled in NUFC, so that he could slaim his world cup place without stress – and THEN sell him???

18 months ago, i mused that that summer’s spending would define the successful season prior, suggesting that the club might NOT build on that success.
Last January came from the management panicking, and come the following summer i sugested we again would not spend.
While on a run, I proposed we again would not buy this January, simply because…..there was “no need too” the club was safe and plenty of cover was on board…(that was how I saw the management thinking, not me)

So far ive been right, but I am still sitting here, p!ssed off, and praying I will be proved wrong.

Ben Arfa played the full 90 against Stoke, and actually saw more of the ball than against Norwich, he ran them ragged… are you saying that Ben Arfa is actually becoming more unfit?

He does not look overweight to me, his BMI looks about as lean as he can get it.

Why would he be fit to run Stoke all over the park, but be able to only manage 70 against Norwich in a game he was playing deeper?

Cramp happens to players all the time, I thought he looked happy to play on, but it was around the same time that Pardew likes to bring on a sub anyway, so Pardew hauled him off.

Benny will get cramp if he doesnt get match time then suddenly starts a whole game, spends it running around like an idiot trying to win the game. I dont know about the leg break theory either kevy – he still skins players and runs past the with a fair turn of speed, in fact thats exactly what I said out loud during the Norwich game.

I think the perception of Benny is he is profligate and too costly a player a luxury even to have in you side, my theory is this the popular way to explain away Pardews inability to sufficiently play him with adequate protection in midfield. He needs to be the way he is to create opportunitites and when the team rallies around him, it works.. OK Norwich are no CL side but we seemed to suddenly be able to accommodate Benny there with no threat at the back for the most part. It all went decidedly flate when he went off too.

Pardew probaby now has little chance but to start thinking of building the team with HBA in mind, something he has been trying to avoid for a long time. He’s been trying to fit this square peg into his round hole board without thinking how to change the biard a bit so he fits. Analogy over.

All fat and all professional footballers that I’ve seen live or on the telly. Ben Arfa was fat after his leg break but is unfit rather than fat now. This can happen to footballers though as the reserves tend to be youngsters and he hasn’t featured much for the first team but you’d have to question his diet as if he runs every day or every other day he shouldn’t get unfit IMO.

He is a fantastic player but should apply himself better, did you see the state of him when he turned up after his summer off, he must have been 3 stone overweight, he is only now getting the fat off. No excuse man, hes on 60k a week.

He cant be arsed through the week in training and as such has found himself on the bench. For sure he could be doing better.

Guys, Cisse is publicly put on the transfer list. Newcastle even agreed the fee for Trabzonspor untill Cisse rejected and opted to stay in a very good league to fight for his position. Is the club fu*king pissing about? selling another striker when Remy is out meaning we only have potentially Shola which is the only damn striker thats contracted until this summer. Seriously, I sense stupidity from Pardew because hes dropped the likes of Marveaux and Cisse untill he came out yesterday saying how important Marveaux is along with Ben Arfa. Is this guy retarded? No one should defend Pardew as well.

The puppet has the biggest guts going for lying around and claiming his wages while the constant lies to us in the media press about signing a replacement.

Stupid quotes about total profit from transfers yet again…why don’t you people accept that you don’t get it and just stop saying the same thing!

Put it this way…say Carroll was getting £20kpw, that’s £1M a year. So factor in a 5 year contract and we saved £40M by selling him over 5 years.

Then we signed Ba for free. Say we gave him a signing on fee of £2M, paid his agents another £2M and paid him £40kpw over a 5 year contract. That’s £14M of the £40M accounted for, not nothing!

Why are some people obsessed with how much a player costs?! We could have signed Cabaye for £12M, Tiote for £8M, Sissoko for £10M etc. Would that have made them better players? No. But it would have meant we had less money to sign other players like Debuchy, Goofy etc.

Transfer income is not to be spend solely on incoming transfer fees. It should go back into the squad, but it has to cover all elements of a transfer.

Cisse can’t act as a single front man. His many-goals beginning just give everyone a wrong impression that he could do things on his own.

Of course, the confidence thing is also important. Teammates are helping him to build that up though. Remember he’s given the chance to score a penalty even he’s not the assigned taker? I think that’s beautiful.

  • 201 Ibizatoon // Jan 31, 2014 at 5:50 PM

Turkish…Cisse has been given so many chances, hardly fair to criticise Pardew for dropping him.

The fact the club are trying to offload him speaks volumes…hardly going to be fetching top money for him…If he does get sold it will likely be at a loss…hardly the Ashley mantra.

My thoughts are more along the lines of, are we really in a position that we can’t afford to land our targets unless another player is offloaded? Even after Cabaye has been sold?

TDSarf…Why do we care how much a player costs or how the club spends its money? Because we seem to be one of the only clubs that can’t get players in out of all the top tier clubs…and usually finance is used as the reason.

Surely the wage implications are taken care of in our yearly accounts (you know, the ones we now show a profit on) and don’t need to be offset against transfer funds for the duration of their contract?

Let’s say having received circa £20 for Cabaye we get a player for £10m on a 4 year contract of £2.5m p.a (just for ease of maths), that would be the £20m spent? On that basis though, we would assume that our wage bill would decrease on a yearly basis?

I haven’t seen those adjustments made anywhere, but maybe I’m looking in the wrong places?

As horrible as this is, I know I’ll be watching Jim White doing his best When Harry Met Sally audition tonight in the desperate hope tha we really will get someone decent in.
It’s embarrassing, even the Mackems have done some business and they seem to have a decent coach who can get the best out of the players he has.
I really wonder how our players must be feeling, I just hope Pardew has blown smoke up their ar5es and told them that the midfield is good enough to not have to bring anyone else in.
I’m not so worried (or pee’d off) that Cabs hasn’t been replaced as I think Anita, Tiote and Sissoko is plenty good enough for the centre, but i’m just a bit puzzled as to why there’s no striker when we all know Remy is off at the end of the season then every club we approach will massively hike the prices up.

Oh yeah, and Fulham have signed Mitroglu! Why we werent in for him, or Tom Ince on loan, or even Zaha just to at least look like they’re not taking us for granted, taking the pi55 yet again.

Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse has turned down a £6.4million move to Turkish side Trabzonspor for “football reasons”. The Number 9, who is only a possibility for the bench tomorrow against Sunderland as he recovers from a back injury was not considered for sale by Newcastle. That said, the club have already said that if the price is right…..

  • 209 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 31, 2014 at 5:55 PM

    micktoon

Transfer revenue just goes into a pot. Obviously it’s not annual but like I said before, when a contract is signed, the total value of the contract is considered as a cost. A contract isn’t like someone hiring you or I to do a permanent job, it’s a commitment to pay the player for x years virtually regardless of performance or ability to do the job. So if we sign a player and he’s going to be paid £2M a year and on a 5 year contract, then they need to ensure they have £10M over the next 5 years. Sure, some of that can come from future revenue, but it can also come from the money that the club currently has in the bank.

  • 216 ToonDarnSarf // Jan 31, 2014 at 5:59 PM

    Ibizatoon

No. Because you forgot to offset Cabaye’s wage. But if we signed a player for £10M, paid £4M in other fees and paid this new player an extra £1.2M a year over a 5 year contract than Cabaye got, then that’s the £20M gone.

That doesn’t change the fact that we should have money to sign players and we should have done so, but that’s how it would work with replacing players.

We will have spent quite a few million on having Remy and LDJ on loan this season too. All of that money comes out of the club and all of that money could have been put towards signing a player if they had found the right one.

  • 217 theartfuldodger // Jan 31, 2014 at 5:59 PM

Atleast we will all stop with the “we are building up to something” or “theres a 5 year plan” .
Surely a 5th and 8th place is something to build on. Not a 16th place.

Ashleys in charge and he can do anything he feels like.
You want to fool yourself and give it a positive twist, yr choice.

  • 218 Ibizatoon // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:00 PM

TDS…”Sure, some of that can come from future revenue, but it can also come from the money that the club currently has in the bank.”

But not both future revenue and current funds?

So if we’re saying when we buy we take the contract duration from “transfer funds”, surely more wages money is available on a year by year basis? It appears they would like us to allow them to apply the figures twice?

For the record, I do understand that at the end of the day it’s one big pot…we have what we have. You asked why we care, the reason is the club have used finances as the reason and will twist and distort information as they see fit to try and make us understand our lack of activity….that and the idea that we’ve been scouting a replacement for Cabaye that doesn’t want to be a Cabaye replacement…well, at least that’s a new one.

Pardew has very little influence here. If you’re a top French player and you have PSG in their current state knocking on the door, you’re going to leave.

This is simply the consequence of not capitalizing on our exploits in 2011 and adopting a transfer policy that only ensures PL survival.

On a side note..Old Jose Mourinho sticking up for us..

No. Because you forgot to offset Cabaye’s wage. But if we signed a player for £10M, paid £4M in other fees and paid this new player an extra £1.2M a year over a 5 year contract than Cabaye got, then that’s the £20M gone.

Sorry is that suggesting we pay a five year contract in one hit or the club generates so little money each transfer fee gets tucked to the side to pay wages for the next 5 years?

  • 240 JackButler // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:11 PM

    TDS

It’s hard to blame Kinnear for not replacing Cabaye as for all we know there was no money made available for him to replace the lad.

But from now until at least the summer Ashley has saved around the 70kpw that Cabaye was reported to be on plus the 20+ million from the transfer…………………..while we have been left with the loss of the most important player in our squad and another loan signing that has been very, very poor over the past few seasons.

All in all, it’s another step backwards

  • 241 JP...from The Rock // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:12 PM

If Duricic is really on his way to play a match we can forget about signing the lad. He will be a star in no time I bet. He has all the makings of a World Class player already and is only 21 I think.

I am very disappointed by the club AGAIN that we will once again show NO AMBITION this window by waiting til the summer. The excuse then will be, it was too busy with the World Cup Tournament underway so we really struggled to get any ‘over the line’!!!!

I am sick of the waiting every bloody year! I bet I am going to reach my 40′s and we still haven’t replaced Strolla after the summer!

I said that getting in De Jong was good business and a good window IF ONLY we replace Cabaye this window.

So far it will be another bad window…gutted!

No doubt I live in hope as I will still check in the last hour or two of the window to see if ‘any’ further developments are coming our way, but I hate being so hopeful sometimes. I already know it will end in tears.

Gremier’s agent is obviously hoping we raise our bid, that bit about his clients value being half of what Cabaye’s was was the magic line right there. Gremier doesn’t give a toss if his value is less than Cabaye’s as lon as he plays, clearly greedy agents testing our patience again. Though this time I would pay the going price FFS!!!!

ASHLEY I HATE YOU AND SPORTS D**** SH*T!!!!

  • 243 Ibizatoon // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:14 PM

TDSarf…I’m not sure we’re having the same conversation :)

However, you are right on that last part.

If we really are in a position where we can’t afford the players we want, shouldn’t the plans have been made to target what we can afford?

I feel the bottom line is, we’re not trying to do better than 8th, the club don’t feel we’ll be in much danger of being dragged in to a relegation battle and we’ll likely be able to ride out the rest of the season.

It’s really got sod all to do with not having money imo. Much like last January, funds are available if needed.

Anyway, I’m going to try and not spend another transfer deadline day debating the clubs finances and lack of intent.

  • 244 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:15 PM

so after a few years of torturing, I think we should ask Ashley to sell the club as quickly as possible.

  • 245 Laurent Robert 32 // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:16 PM

Kevin Keegan told us about Ashley’s tricks, that he’ll bid for players that won’t even come. That’s being honest and transparent. That’s him telling the fans, for our benefit. Look at the Barton, Nolan, Harper group who tried to do the same. A different world to ol’ silver tongue, JFK and the obese one.

Pardew is the equivalent of the typical ‘bitch’ stereotype in jail. Like ‘Fish’ in Prison Break. Ashley is T-Bag awaiting his pocket being grabbed by Alan with inverted intelligence.

This set of liars and con-men are thick as thieves and need to be weeded out. It’s not fair on genuine fans of the club who just want an attempt of ambition and a positive approach to teamplay.

All because of that thing I hate, money. The root of all evil.

  • 246 BandB // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:17 PM

    JB,

“Obviously, the World Cup has inflated everything a little bit, and that’s had a knock-on effect, make no mistake. And there’s plenty of teams with a lot of money sloshing about, if I’m honest. We’re on a budget, and it might be hard to compete. On the downside of that, some of our players are later in their contracts and they are vulnerable, make no bones about that. We have to protect ourselves against that.”

Alan Pardew press conference, July 2014.

  • 247 toonarmydownsouth // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:18 PM

Arsenal, Ramsey injured thought it was shirt term turns out to be out for 6 weeks, go out and get Kallstrom on loan

  • 248 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:19 PM

@JP, even if we can’t replace Cabaye, it will now be up to Pardew to cope with that, and how he would do it.

For example, a 4-4-2 would work now with Anita and Tiote holding in the middle, Gouffran and BenArfa on the wings keeping putting balls in the middle or cut inside, Luuk and Cisse in the front with Luuk holding all the balls for Cisse to do the final strike. It may sound like Fifa 14, but a good manager should always have more tactics in his pocket.

  • 249 p // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:20 PM

My guess is that the extent to which excuses are tolerated is directly correlated to the result tomorrow.

If we lose – let’s face it those twats are in good form and Poyet has always been our bogey man – there will be hell to pay. Only softened by a blockbuster signing which will not happen.

If we win, then Newcastle City centre may not look like the aftermath of a tsunami

  • 250 mag // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:20 PM

Pizzicato- You may be right but I am too depressed right now to look at our light squad and think of the alternatives IF…better said WHEN no signings come in.

All this is smoke and mirrors it seems and the price is right for both Gremier and Duricic as Duricic only signed a 5 yr contract in February and Benfica will want to protect themselves a bit, after agent fees and all that.

We are mugs again for taking all this bullsh*t from Ashley.

Tbh it’s not Pardew’s fault, in fact I feel sorry for him as he has to rack his brain again in setting the team up differently. I know he is capable of it as was demonstrated against Norwich, he said we’d see a different style to our play for that match and we did. I was impressed considering we had just lost our best player in Cabaye. We looked pacey, and alive and willing to fight for every ball. We were a menace to the opposition and played really well down the flacks even with young Sammy Ameobi.

BUT..not replacing Cabaye is like chopping our balls off! Unthinkable!!

My take on this window is that we couldn’t refuse that offer for cabaye and they genuinely tried to replace him.

They don’t want to panic buy and just get anyone in so would rather wIt til summer when we can get our first choice targets.

    De Jong

    Remy, HBA, sissokho

    Tiote, Anita

This is still good enough to blow most teams away with cisse, goofy, sammy, mbiwa, colo, Haidara on the bench.

A bit thin for sure but I’d rather wait and get our first choice targets than cheap alternatives.

That may be naive of me but It’s my opinion.

Also gomis and ince would’ve been great signings this window IMO but for some reason we’ve shown no interest.

However the bloke knows he could get a higher paid job but sticks around with us as he clearly knows he wont get a bigger club with better first 11 (just my opinion, those above won’t take him but would get plenty more cash) so it could be seen he is putting up with all the crap to give himself a chance of getting europe or pushing higher in the league

Not liking this window at all.

    On player resources….

If you have a football club with a squad of 25 players with a total estimayted value of £150m then that is your working capital.
You then will get all the complications of capital depreciation etc. but that is another story. In footballers contract terms that will be due to age, injury and the length left on their contract as well as their form. Some values will go up and some down for a whole squad.

If the wage bill fo rthis squad is £50m then that is a revenue cost. It is not a deductible cost from your capital. nor would any business not separate the two – revenue and capital are quite different. I wish the apologists would actually understand this when making excuses for our useless DOF, undermined manager and peculiar owner

    JB,

I, and my family, were happy puppies until the summer after we finished finished fifth.
Then, with Optimism Valley marching behind the flag and claiming it would be all over by Christmas (a nod to Ian Toon and his bizarre post) ..Pardew said two things.
Firstly, “we got a bit ahead of ourselves this year.”
    What did that mean?
Had we exceeded expectations? Or had we got ideas above our station?
And then he said, “The target was eighth. IT STILL IS.”
At that point, I smelled a rat.

My point has never been that we haven’t signed some good players. It has not been that we play rubbish football.

It has been, that the long-term indicators point in one direction, and that will become clear and clearer.

So now Anita gets his chance and will get more playing time and hopefully HBA will too depending on what system Pardew wants to play.

This happens every year…they say we’re chasing people but it’s always just a smoke screen just like KK says.

The club leaks a load of bullshit , the fans get all excited like on this blog, then Patsy Pardew comes out with that tried and tested bullshIt statement…”we tried our best couldn’t quite get them over the line”

  • 308 Ibizatoon // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:58 PM

Jesper…What do you think will actually happen though if the Mackems beat us?

    Sacrifice for what?

    The way I see things:

Pardew – Does not even register as an actual problem for me. Granted he can be improved on, but I don’t think he will. As far as his boss is concerned, he’s doing a marvelous job. The only time Pardew is getting the can is to appease fans, but we all know we’ll get a Pardew 2.0…so what is the point?

JK – See above, with the exception that his shelf life will likely be shorter than Pardews. A bit like Derek, who was shipped out because Ashley was furious that he had to get involved with transfers last winter…supposedly. Easily changed person, whose job is to spend as little as possible and then take the flak when needed.

Ashley – I say we go back to the drawing board on this one. I know a lot of work has already been done and I am still keen to see what plans are in progress. The only way to get rid of Ashley, imo, is to be smart. He’s a businessman and will need a business exit strategy. Until then, we keep playing this game.

  • 309 Harley // Jan 31, 2014 at 6:59 PM

    TS

I do get your point about having a few candidates to go for but maybe grenier and his club and agent have told us the deal is on in the summer and we’ve decided to wait. I don’t suppose anyone will ever know but I just can’t buy in to all this theory that Ashley is just out to sell, sell, sell and not bothered about climbing the league.

I do however believe that he doesn’t want Europa due to how much it wrecked out season last.

jack@ 302…they were similar when Pardew had Cabaye playing as a deep defensive midfielder, but totally unlike each other when cabs was asked to play the No 10.

I think HBA will be given the No 10 in the coming weeks but who knows!

True, but it’s no surprise that Cabaye has been at his best when he’s pushed further up the pitch and not stuck deep in the midfield.

As for HBA taking the No# 10 role???

I still have massive reservations over the lad as he’s a show pony and we need a work horse with skill

    sparky…Football! Okay, I’m not being funny either…

As far as the club are concerned, the game of, we’re building for the future, next window will be different.

For the fans, the game of desperation and frustration and not knowing what to do.

My comment was in response to thinking that losing to the mackems will change anything.

What is it people actually want to change and what do they plan to do?

Getting wound up after a derby loss and punching a horse doesn’t seem to be much of a way forward to me…or the horses.

  • 320 scottoon // Jan 31, 2014 at 7:10 PM

There was a time when I really enjoyed transfer deadlines. Now I just squirm in my seat. Anxious about who else we are going to lose as the regime cashes in, instead of the excitement at the prospect of new signings. Crazy thing is, I would be fine with no signings if I felt comfortable that MA and JK had the team’s best interests in mind. But we know JK is a complete puppet fall guy(and we are judging him on his signings) and we know MA has no idea what “team’s best interests” even means.

Yeh possibly, but if they don’t want europa we either stay 8th or hope to get 4th. Why they can’t just get a bigger squad is beyond me, even in europe though we would make 7/8 changes a game so tiredness shouldn’t be an issue…more down to injuries and different match prep, something pardew hasn’t had to do before, hopefully he has learned from it for next time

    Jesper

All managers get payouts no matter why sacked, so pardew would get one even if relegated it seems as everyone does….whether we sack him rightly or wrongly he gets a pay out.

With his reputation fairly high at the moment now is the time to push his luck if ever as if he isn’t backed and we sack him he’d walk right into another job.

    Jack

Pardew might be art of the problem with lies etc but with Ashley in charge no matter which manager it is he will spin lies or be replaced.

  • 340 Ibizatoon // Jan 31, 2014 at 7:25 PM

    Jesper…I do sometimes wonder :)

Okay, maybe my point was made badly about Pardew not being part of the problem. Of course he is.

However, what is it you expect to happen? People get frustrated at Pardew and demand he is replaced (note I didn’t use the word upgraded…that’s probably key here)?

With what? A better manager? Like whom? Laurdup, Martinez, Poyet? All have been backed by their owners…I honestly can’t see them either accepting the job and even if they did, I can’t see them sticking around.

Part of this job, is to try and smooth over things between the owner and us fans. I just don’t see how that’s ever going to change with Ashley at the top.

So, again, what is it we hope to achieve by losing to the mackems tomorrow? Shouldn’t we be putting our brains to something a little more productive?

Pardew is a symptom of the problem, personally I think we’re best suited addressing the main issue or we’ll be back here again in no time.

  • 341 Transfer Sage // Jan 31, 2014 at 7:25 PM

    Jesper

Yeh, that’s what I think he should do now.

Was just trying to think of reasons before why he wouldn’t. We know he could get a better paid job as all prem clubs pay more, I was just suggesting he may go along with all the crap as he knows this will probably be the biggest team he gets and he wants to see if he can make it work…..just a theory, probably wrong.

  • 342 sparky55 // Jan 31, 2014 at 7:26 PM

Pardew is more than OK with what he’s doing and what he’s made to say because Ashley took him off the scrap heap…he was jobless and had gambling debts running to 100′s of thousands of pounds…

…so don’t worry about Pardew…he sleeps like a baby every night after having shagged some young blonde from the bigg market

    Ibiza @ 304

Ashe;ly already has an exit strategy – said as m,uch ion the Guradian intervoew. All he needs is a buyer who will meet his valuation. Bit like Cabaye and big Anduy. It’ll be a quesion opf m,ake me an offer I cannot refuse.

Ashley has made £50-60m in the last two months by trading in his holding in Debenhams for a futures option. It isn’t simply about the money with him at all – it’s more about his quirky ego. He bought a pup with the Toon, stupid business error to not do due diligence and we’ve been paying for it ever since. His ego will only be satisfied by him exiting with enough wonga to restore his damaged pride. Finishing 8th is the pinnacle of his ambition for us – B&B got it right picking up Pardew’s comment in thst interview…

How many Premiership football clubs sell their most important playing asset half way through a season and do not immediately replace them ? Which club has failed to sign any players in twelve months. (Borrowing other clubs’ players is ersatz) Andy, then Ba, and now Cabs – it isn’t a question of the side being Pardewed – what can he really do except damage limitiation ? but more the whole club being spiked on the sword of Ashley’s ego.

We must be the only club which has a strategy of deliberately weakening the playing side for a quick buck

  • 353 Harley // Jan 31, 2014 at 7:32 PM

Again ever the optimist I have a feeling we are having a big clear out this summer and investing in some real quality. Not sure why I think that as we are regularly let down but I just think its in the cards.

Cisse, Jonas, marveaux, obertan, gosling are all way bow par for me. Santon is overrated and I’d snap your hand off for 10miillion and obviously colo is away..

I believe we only need 3 players to replace those 7 and we are solid.

    Jack butler

You might be right but I’m dying to see him given a run there to see if he can do it. Obviously if he can’t then I agree, he needs to be replaced.

Could I just say one thing in frustration.

People who say we are lucky to have Ashley as he runs the club in a stable way. We keep selling important players and not reinvesting the money which leaves 2 options:
    1) We need the money from the players just to keep going.
    2) He is pocketing the money rather than interested in the team.

    I can’t see either of these being a positive….

  • 357 GeordieTwo // Jan 31, 2014 at 7:34 PM

Now that the real reason for Cabaye leaving us is known (Joe’s man love) I can safely release this last desperate plea from Joe to his Dreamboat:
When a Man Loves a Frenchie
When a man loves a Frenchie, he can’t keep his mind on nothing else
He’ll trade the world for the good thing he’s found
If Cabs is bad, he can’t see it, he can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend if he put Cabs down
Very moving Joe. Beautiful. No wonder he left.
    Kudos to Percy Sledge.

Pardew may have no balls but he has no say what so ever. He new that when he took the job. At the end of the day he still gets paid well.
as far as Ash goes with Newcastle it will come to the stage where he has to spend big in one window just to stand still. His whole life revolves around pound signs so for now he is very reluctant to spend.

As for the fans making Ashleys life a misery…I’m all for it, he’s making a certain part of my life a misery…seems only fair.

Truth is, I don’t think fan pressure alone is enough to make Ashley do anything. That’s not to say we should make it too easy for him though.

I just want them to be transparent. If he is going to pocket all the money and just keep us in the prem to bleed us dry then say it.

If not: Where does all the TV money, 50,000 weekly tickets, and reccurring last minute player sales (so we “just couldn’t get them over the line” in time) go?!?

This Serbian player from Benfica sounds like a total sham yet again. Purposely bidding too low to make it seem like we even try.

    We don’t even TRY.

archaemag…You’re not wrong. I just find it disheartening that the club wont look at the research we have done which proves, without doubt, that the bigger and crazier the hair, the better the footballer.

Lads what is this nonsense I am hearing!!

Newcastle United has Offered Cisse to Cardiff for a price to be valued from £8.5-10m. This late into the window, could this really mean Mike Ashley is trying to gain profit asap and fu*k off our club?

Or is this a nightmare that will not end..

  • 403 Ibizatoon // Jan 31, 2014 at 7:59 PM

    £5,018.19 / £5 installments equals a measly 1,003 payments, that’s only like 83 years!

    Reasons to be optimistic people!

  • 404 yorkymag // Jan 31, 2014 at 8:00 PM

I don’t think that grenier was the answer to all our problems by any means.
I have been broadly neutral on Ashley and his time at newcastle
But this window is the end for me.
We absolutley knew that cabayne was going ,not to have a replacement in the bag is indefensible .
I don’t know who cocked up or in fact was what has happened the plan.
What I do know is this is the worst show of a lack of ambition I could imagine .
Ashley needs to move on ,I have had enough he has sucked the energy out of one of those most likley to give him a chance
I am gutted I will go to the match tommorrow and will reflect on what could have been ,of course I hope we beat them but whatever the result I will reflect on a season that Ashley has prematurely brought to an end
    Simply unforgivable

Now don’t get upset but there are going to be a few more player sales and losses in the summer. Krul, Debuchy, and Tiote will be sold true enough. And Remy will leave us yes. The top 4 clubs in the Prem have scored 213 goals an average of 53 per club. Next 4 including Toon have scored 135 an average of 33. A difference of 20. Point ? Well We need goals from Hatem and midfield ( to replace Cabaye goals ) and an upgrade in goals scored by the front men in the same way that the scousers have Gerrard , Suarexz and Sturridge just for starters. Many bloggers are right – where is our ambition and for that matter where is JFK – does anyone actuall know ?

    Mac,

Sorry to pop off so abruptly…before.
    You know why.
Hold every public statement the f*****s make to account.
Take your time, and time it.
The Chron conducted its survey at the stupidest possible time, and then compounded it by writing copy that wasn’t supported by the statistics. I did warn you they weren’t the sharpest of pencils.
    Every idea has its time.
    “Ashley Out!”
Its an idea, the time for which hasn’t come. But it will have its time. Build towards it patiently.
Engaging is better than challenging. It does no harm to concede the odd point. It keeps folks listening.
    Don’t rail against apathy.
    Apathy is your best hope.

HBA is a good player and will always gives you an extra different kind of creatively on the field.

They will make space from a tight defence and dance their way through..

Attract two-three defenders/ players and make a big space for teammates.

Carry the ball from out of no-where to score a goal. You just don’t believe it.

With that kind of acute angle he just put the ball into the net..with that kind of distance he carry the ball from defence and run all the way and put it into the opposition net after escaping through so many sliding tackers.

If AP dnt use this kind of player then then what did he see in Obertan that is better?
