Ben Arfa has been at Newcastle now for three and a half years, and come this summer he will have one year left on the four and a half year Newcastle contract he signed while still injured with that double leg fracture in early January of 2011, and Newcastle will have a decision to make on the player.
Hatem Ben Arfa – Newcastle have decision to make
Newcastle will not allow Ben Arfa to run his contract down and become a free agent in July of 2015, and so the club will have to decide whether to offer the 26 year-old French winger an extension to his contract, or else try to sell him in the summer, before his value in the transfer market starts to decline over the last year of his contract.
Ben Arfa is and will always will be a match winner, and if he is sold there will be an awful lot of Newcastle fans not happy – if indeed that decision is made.
Ben Arfa has a decent record on Tyneside, and he’s appeared 78 times for Newcastle with 14 goals and 19 assists – and he should be given a chance to fill that withdrawn striker role, now that Yohan Cabaye has left.
Certainly Ben Arfa has all the skill in the world, and you would expect that if he gets a chance in the middle, he will be able to hit the back of the net.
Newcastle fans love to have players like Ben Arfa in the side, and let’s tell the truth – it is players like Ben Arfa who get fans to go to the games.
And to his credit, Ben Arfa has matured a lot since he arrived on Tyneside, and it must have been frustrating for the 26 year-old to be on the sidelines most of the season.
We hope he gets his chance in the final 15 games of this season, and we’ll just have to wait until the summer to see what Newcastle will do.
