Pardew Refuses To Talk About Cabaye – But Why Should He?

6:12 pm, Saturday, February 1st, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 212 Comments

You can criticize Alan Pardew all you like about his coaching, and for being completely out-coached by Gus Poyet today, for the fourth successive time, but let’s not go after Pardew for Yohan Cabaye’s departure - that was all the doing of owner Mike Ashley and his Director of Football Joe Kinnear – and Mike pulls all the strings on transfers into and out of the club.

mike ashley joe kinnear

Ashley and Kinnear – Ashley makes all transfer decisions

So after the game today why should the Newcastle manager answer questions on Yohan Cabaye, when the last thing Pardew wanted was to lose his very best player.

It’s done now, and there’s no going back – and Newcastle have to move on – and really the only person who should be answering questions about this is the owner – maybe through his cohort and conduit – Joe Kinnear.

This is what Alan Pardew said after the game:

“Listen, when you lose a player of Cabaye’s class, you want a replacement. But he didn’t arrive and I have to accept what was in my kitty today and going forward.”

“I have to try to get the best out of the group I have got. Loic Remy was a big loss today because we created chances, but there was a lack of conviction in our finishing today which he certainly doesn’t lack, and he was a big loss today.”

“For me standing on the sideline today with a team where we were, it would have been nice to have had a player to give us a boost for the second half of the season, but he didn’t arrive.

“What else can I say? You can keep asking the question and re-phrasing it, and I have answered it.

Newcastle fans are rightly furious with the events in the transfer market of last week, and even more upset now with the pathetic performance of the side today agisnt Sunderland – maybe the worst ever humiliation against Sunderland.

It was Mike Ashley who decided to sell Cabaye for a decent price, and then wouldn’t pay out the money to get Clement Grenier from Lyon through the door.

And it seems Newcastle could have difficulty getting him in during the summer, because we think he was more than miffed at Newcastle’s low offer for him.

Mike Ashley is really the only person responsible for selling Yohan Cabaye, and the person who wouldn’t pay the going rate to get in Clement Grenier, who would have been an excellent replacement for Yohan.

Let’s not blame Pardew for the Cabaye deal and not wanting to even talk about it – because he had absolutely nothing to do with it.

We need to hear from Mike Ashley – but we all know there’s a fat chance of that happening.

    Good for you Morocco.

Ashley had access to the same statistics that show our Win rate without Cabaye. But he is happy let the fans pay up to see Crap and channel funds out of the club with Carr’s expertise and our work.

You have the power of VETO Use it !!!

  • 3 toonking // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:16 PM

when reading what has been quoted their you can see quite clearly that pardew is really angered himself.

  • 4 JackButler // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:16 PM

Ed, we should go after Pardew as well as he’s simply accepting whats happening and has never once voiced his frustration or anger at what Ashley is doing.

He’d have the respect of the fans if he actually said something for once

  • 5 ilovetoon8788 // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:16 PM

No top player in their sane mind would join our club.

Forget about Grenier Cabella. They are all not coming.

you can see your being forced out, but you want to make us suffer

dick lameass give a stupid contract that Ashley does not want to pay up

Agreed mate, does himself no favours.
Einstein Definition of insanity – keep repeating same thing and expect different outcome.
I don’t feel sorry for him because he must be fully complicit in all the shenannigins otherwise he would not be there.
I would feel sorry for him if he was actually a decent manager, but alas, he is gash!
Can’t listen to his patter anymore either as it appears he’s thinking of an educated answer to a question posed and then spouts utter pish!
Make a good politician with his blameless, self preservation mentality tho!

“…I have to accept what was in my kitty today and going forward”.

It sound honorable to the general football fan but it’s not. It’s spineless regurgitation!

  • 9 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:18 PM

Can anyone really blame Remy & Cabaye wanting to jump ship ? .

  • 10 toonking // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:18 PM

why hasn’t anyone called carr a fool for not walking out of the club himself?

  • 11 Ancientcoptic // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:19 PM

LOL @ Ed… the blog must be getting quite bad when Ed is coming (partially) out in defence of Pardew.

I do not blame the hierarchy for the Cabaye deal, I do take exception to no replacements being signed.

I would not mind if we got players agreed to come in the summer, but to have nothing in the pipeline is bad for the club… we all know this isn’t Pardew’s fault.

We should be able to beat Sunderland at home without Cabaye… I think it was Remy that we missed more.

One inexcusable thing from today was Ameobi playing the full 90 minutes… he offered nothing, and has a track record of offering nothing. How come the whole of the North East could see that Ameobi needed to come off the pitch, but the manager of the club couldn’t?

It begs a lot of questions.

  • 14 JackButler // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:20 PM

    Uncertain Toon

He’s done the exact same thing his entire career and has always been called on it except here under Ashley.

I don’t know what is going on with him, but 99.9% of managers would have walked a long time ago for being made to look like a mug but Pardew just laps it up and even has the gall to offer excuses for the pathetic way we are being run

  • 15 GeordieTwo // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:20 PM

Cabaye is a huge loss no doubt about it. And not replacing him is typical of Ashley. But there are other obvious problems. Why was Santon taking set pieces and corners again. He was absolutely dross at it against Norwich. And why has Willo still been the target man often? It’s complete madness. He absolutely hopeless for that job and always has been. He has become a steady defender most of the time but that’s all. I just don’t think Pardew is capable of lifting us at all. But with Ashley the toad sitting at the top nothing will change. No kit for me until he’s gone. No money in Ashley’s pocket. He must go.

  • 16 Belfast // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:20 PM

His record in the derbies is woeful like.

When you look at their side and then look at ours it’s a joke.

That’s the fourth time he’s been tactically raped by Poyet now.

Every man and their dog knows Poyets teams like to play out from the back. Yet every time Pardew comes up against him, he lets them play out from the back ?

Nope I don’t know why either.

  • 17 north of the border // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:21 PM

if pardew had any balls he would knock down ashleys door and demand a team worthy of the fans or he will resign,
there are not many managers that would put up with this crap

  • 18 kilcline // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:22 PM

Pardrew constantly gets out coached, we looked clueless today/

Following people need to leave the club:
De Jong (he will be sh1t)

We should have been looking to bring in Ince, Bridcutt, Hughes at Derby and get back to our English routes.

  • 19 Himanshu Dhingra // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:22 PM

Don’t know if this has been siad?

Why were we the 2nd best team in passion, in both derbies?

  • 20 mag // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:22 PM

Pardew we need to take stock he should have done a stock check earlier, he might have realised he was a playmaker and a striker short the dozy twat!

  • 21 Belfast // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:23 PM

No pressure on their back four at all.
We just let them pop it about, while we move around like slugs.

  • 23 Blackley and Brownlie // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:23 PM

Pardew’s whining that we didn’t get a player in to give us a boost. What about the lanky kid who they’ve been chasing for years – since when he was good? Is he not a boost? Did Pardew sanction that purchase? Why do we want a kid on a half season loan when he’s got less confidence than Cisse, and he’s not fit enough to start a game? He looked like a scared rabbit and if he ever finds form, the season will be almost over.

  • 24 manxpie // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:23 PM

seriously wat is wrong with that statement?
he’s said wat we all want him to

“For me standing on the sideline today with a team where we were, it would have been nice to have had a player to give us a boost for the second half of the season, but he didn’t arrive.

“What else can I say? You can keep asking the question and re-phrasing it, and I have answered it.

he’s firmly pointing the blame at the people who should take all the blame in this situation!!

but anyways when he’s sacked i can’t wait to see all of u either wanting the next 1 sacked or then blaming ashley!!

I said the other day pardew has the strong card right now, but the guy is folding
he could force a them v us , and make it look like he is being pooped on, instead he is going along with it

cabaye said , they honored the agreement from the summer, so why is it surprise he went, it’s like he buried his head and hoped it would go away

  • 28 GeordieTwo // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:26 PM

It sickens me to see the club flounder like this and we are humiliated after the windows. One decent window when Ashley was panicking about relegation. It’s all about the TV money for him, not the club. I hate to say it but this man is a complete weasel.

  • 29 HullMag6 // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:26 PM

The eleven on the pitch also let pards and us down. The thing this club had throughout until now was a sense of pride win draw or lose.

Ashleys nearly killed it. Lets see how long before T4c reappears and the like. By fair means or foul Ashley should go but can’t see it happening or is his plan now to cash in, survive(just) and sell up.

  • 30 gorgonzola ( former Pecorino former to gorgonzola) // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:26 PM

    Geordie 2

sorry mate but what other problems?

Arsenal sold RVP and bought players
Spuds sold Bale and bought half of Europe.
Manure know they have a cm problem buy Mata.

This was a massive blow but the real reason was departure and the non replacement of Cabaye and no real intention to do so.

We needed a winger, a ST or TWO , and a CM replacement all of which haven’t been fulfilled realy as DJ is a loan

  • 31 JackButler // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:27 PM

You are defending a man that is a culpable as both Ashley and Kinnear.

He’s not firmly pointing any finger at anyone, he’s meekly accepting his lot.

do i want shot of Pardew?

Yes I do, but I want rid of Ashley more, but either way I cannot and will not offer a defence for any of them as they are all as bad as each other

but the way we lost was shit the worst ever
Man of the match = no one – sorry the lads on the bench who did not get on – cos they did not do nowt wrong
    absolute shambles

wouldn’t say Poyet out tactic Pardew us – cos we were to bad to be out tacticked if such a word.-
GUTLESS CLUELESS and the rest. Cannot play two nancy boys in HBA and Sammi against the scum cannot tackle do not close down and Shola bloody waste of space. so thats us down to.
We could not even pass to each other went back to HOOFball.

Good job we have 37 points as if we play like that week in week out cannot see where the next point is coming from.

  • 37 sweendog // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:31 PM

Positive note is the team will look a lot better when Remy and goufran are back .. Goufrans defensive traits were missed.. Never mind Remy’s attacking instincts .. Still think we should try either marveax or arfa as cabayes role .. Also we need to press higher as a team and use yanga .. Not only is he better than Taylor but when you press higher you need a cb with pace to catch the runners or balls over defence .. Pardew there’s simple tactics for you

  • 38 GAZ09 // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:31 PM

The only way solution for the club is to get relegated forcing the fat man to lose money and have to sell up.

  • 39 Blackley and Brownlie // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:31 PM

For all you fans who watch on your pc or down the pub, I have to tell you that I sit 25 yards or so behind Pardew and watch his performance throughout. You could see from the first minutes that we were not up for it, and tactical changes needed to be made, but Pardew stands like a dummy. He should have been apoplectic with rage, as I was, but he stands mute like Windy f*^%ing Miller. He takes his hands out of his pockets occasionally only to scribble a note in his little book? FFS, what can you be writing in your book that you don’t need to bark at the players? “Order two bags corn from Farmer Bell”?

As far as our squad goes, I love the fact we don’t have the likes of Geremi, Viduka, Owen, Luque, Butt, Gutierrez, Simpson, etc.

Our team is far superior to what it was. That is all I am thankful for to Fat Mike Ashley. It ends there. Apart from that he has pissed on our parade every time, disrupted the harmony within the group and our progress haulted by no further sanctoning of players when needed most. Some sales like Carroll for £35M is a no brainer but apart from that he has killed the soul of the club as demonstrated with the ridiculous decision to change the stadium name to favour his tatty retail stores.

He is the cancer of this club and the pathetic appointment of the washed up loon of Kinnear to spearhead our transfers is nothing short of an embarrassment and an attempt to demoralize the fans and impose his authority on the club.

He has kicked us in the teeth for far too long, it has to end!

    ASHLEY OUT!!!!!

  • 46 magpie6699 // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:36 PM

I’m totally gutted like every other Toon fan at the game but I’m not going to start with the rubbish about us not getting any more goals / points etc. With almost the same team ( minus Remy- out for 2 more games), we should have murdered Norwich. What really P***es me off are the so-called fans who go on the rampage because they are big cry-babies. My 17 year-old daughter was coming back from College and got caught up in it even though there were hoards of police about Two grown men, drunks, started fighting and one careered into her. Fortunately a copper came to her rescue and escorted her away to a safe route to her bus home. Sorry but NO EXCUSE for that sort of stuff – I am fizzing!

  • 51 GeordieTwo // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:38 PM

I agree with you gorgonzola on all your points @30 mate. But I have also questioned Pardew’s tactics for a long time. We have never had decent corners under him. Our only decent set piece taker was Cabaye and he’s gone. Benny has been disappointing mainly for this whole season. We never seem to address our shortcomings when they happen. It always takes years and by that time new problems have cropped up. But the main problem is and always has been Ashley. His attitude, his lies, his cowardly hiding. Was he at the match today? I doubt it with Cabaye gone.

  • 52 Edd Case // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:39 PM

Why didn’t we take a gamble on Ince?
Why didn’t we take a gamble on Holtby?

Why are we seemingly always looking to buy in French players?

I keep saying it but there is real quality on our own shores in the Championship and in the Prem that won’t cost multi-millions.

Our team has no proper balance to it and we suffer because plan B is always to smash it up field.

It’s such a shame really but in reality, the entire squad needs an overhaul.
Santon, Anita, Shola, Jonas, Debuchy, Colo, Taylor, Krul, Cisse, HBA, Obertan, Marv, this list goes on and on.
Very few seem pedigree players that play with passion, determination and have real quality.

In our squad right now, very few I’d keep,
MYM, Sissoko, Remy (if he’ll stay), Gouffran, Haidara and one or two others but really, the rest can leave…as can the manager…and the owner…and for the love of God, the DoF.

Can’t really knock him for saying that, sounds as gutted as the rest of us that they flogged Cabaye pocketed the cash and gave us all the middle finger

Well a few hours since the game thought is give meself a chance to calm down but that just hasn’t happened
    Today was simply appualing

JFK and the Fat man to f**king gutless to face there paying public after a truly disgusting window in which they shafted the club and the fans
Pardews tactics had us starting far to negative, but except Marv and De Jong on the bench we really do have f**k all attacking options, btw TDS today is exactly what i was trying to get across to you with the arguement that our squad really has no strength in depth

    As for the players
F**king hell hang your heads in shame, absolutely disgusting display, I don’t care how we were set up there’s no tactical excuse for not being able to beat the first man on set pieces, running in to each other, playing for themselves, not being able to make 5-6 yards passes and generally being able to play the most basic of football, that’s one part if Pardews interview i did agree with, they need to get back to basics

Apart from Willo Tiote Marv Sammy (who was quiet but done better than most when he did get on the ball) maybe Taylor the rest were abysmal every single one of them

Krul, he flapped, he came out on corners and missed, his distribution was awful and his saves were parried weakly back into our own box

Anita was awful, tackling, positioning, passing all of it woeful

Santon, did he even train this week? Worst display ever seen from that lad

Debuchy looked unbelievably frustrated was offered no cover and when he did get to go forward he had absolutely no support or options, no one showing for the ball and then just lost his head and started putting in rash challenges

Sissoko terrible ran himself into trouble all day, dithered on the ball, poor passing awful shooting and probably blocked more of our shots than O’Shea and Brown combined

HBA, if this is the man to fill Cabayes shoes were f**ked, indecisive, poor passing, couldn’t beat a man and when he shifted left Bardsley had him in his pocket for the rest of the game

Shola, did he even move today? Awful stuff, poor weak shots and missed a sitter of a header

Every single person involved in our transfer dealings and today’s game should be f**king disgusted with themselves

  • 57 Blackley and Brownlie // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:41 PM

magpie6699 – I hope your daughter has recovered. I totally agree about those muppets. I don’t know why some people can’t take defeat like men, even in the face of the most extreme ridicule.

  • 58 Oleg G // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:43 PM

    I agree with 100%.

Pardew isn’t the one buying and selling players. He didn’t get players in and we lack 2-3 players plus today we had players out for injuries and red card.

What people expect him to do? Call ashley names?
That is unprofessional. I wouldn’t call my boss a fat c#@t. Why do people think pardew van and should? He is saying between the lunes that he isn’t happy.

The other option is to resign? Ok. And then qhat? You lot think that ashley will bring fergy? Or guardiola? He will put an even worse guy.

Until some weeks ago we were fine. 22 games, 36 points, was above what we expected.

He is not getting the support and funds he needs from the board but still did a good job so far.

He isn’t my first choice (and not 2nd, 3rd….) but we can do worse.

Ashley is to blame. You can be sure that Pardew wouldn’t mind to spend more money. But he can’t. Yes, he makes mistakes as a manager and a coach, but he isn’t the worse and again. If he goes, even then, as long as ashley is here, nothing positive will happen.

  • 59 Uncertain Toon // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:43 PM

    Spot on mate.
He might have been promised a replacement for Cabaye and we know it didn’t happen.
He needs to pick his lip up and get on with it. His sulking has obviously got through to the players, but he’s their manager and it’s a massive part of his job to get their heads ready.

three things come to mind . aere the players not good enough that pardew agreed to buy, or can he not motivate players for the most important game of the season, or has he absolutly no idea on how to play the good players he has just coz ONE MAN has left the club ?????? PARDEW F..K OFF YOU USELESS WASTE OF SPACE.

  • 66 JackButler // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:48 PM

Who trains the players? Who sets the formation? Who decides the tactics? Who decides who are the eleven to start?

Why is Santon still starting every game? Why is Saylor back in the starting 11 when he doesn’t deserve or has not earned the right to play? Who allowed Colo to keep the captaincy when he went all out to force a move away from the club. Who gave the captaincy to a player who went on strike at the start of the season, when Colo was out injured?

The list of his failings goes on and on and on.

He accepts everything that Ashley throws at him and then moans and groans while never actually coming out and truly addressing the real issues at the club.

Ashley, Kinnear and Pardew were all made for each other and not one of them deserves the honour of being associated with this once great club

  • 67 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:48 PM

Cisse Marveaux and Haidara were offered to clubs this window, we have no idea why but I’d imagine none if them are in a great frame of mind
Might be the reason we’ve seen so little of them

  • 68 ONLINE GUY // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:50 PM

DRiving past the central station on my way west there was a lot of so called Newcastle fans marauding around banging cars letting of firecrackers..rowdy more than violent.

It looked like a fairly scruffy bunch that don’t attend the match, decked in black and white ..

plenty of photographers hanging around in the hope of a pic or two of trouble ..

Kids were all around 10 to 17 years old just a bunch of stupid kids that get the club a bad name and don’t even attend the game …

The agitation of the Sunder*and fans who insist on coming by train instead of free bus from wearyside is a pain in the arse for the City and the Police.

Its a deliberate ploy by the Mackems . they Know it causes maximum hell for the Northumbria force.

  • 69 Ancientcoptic // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:50 PM

toonarmydownsouth – from what I recall, it was Ben Arfa played the most incisive passing out of our side.

He switched to the Left for 5 or so minutes, but Sunderland doubled up on him, so he came central again. I do not remember Ben Arfa putting a foot wrong from his deeper central position… including a stunning through ball to Shola, who received the ball 3 yards out from goal, but was too clumsy to spin on a six pence and finish it.

Ben Arfa played out best through balls against Norwich too. Out of the last 2 games, I would say the only success has been Ben Arfa’s promise playing in a central role, where he can mix it up between through balls, and running at players.

  • 70 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:50 PM

I’m not sure he does have a say in the line ups
We’ve seen Haidara make a sub appearance every game from about 3 weeks before the window opened and in the last week of the window the club start offering Haidara around to ligue 1 clubs

Reckon JFK is a poison that runs right through the training ground

  • 75 GeordieTwo // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:52 PM

With JFK and Ashley at the top we stand no chance. They haven’t got a clue how to improve the club. Ashley is in love with the TV money. That is it. His attempts at bringing in commercial revenue have been worse than useless. And he calls himself a businessman? Back stabbing weasel yes. Lying coward yes.

  • 76 Blackley and Brownlie // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:53 PM

manxpie – It’s well seen you’re watching through a little glass window from hundreds of miles away. The players needed a rocket up their arses from the opening minutes, the sort of rocket that Poyet launched when they were 3 nil up. How can you bawl at your players with your hands in your pockets? FFS, he only takes his hands out of his pockets to scribble notes. He’s so laid back, he’s horizontal. It was blatantly obvious from the first five minutes that he needed to move players around tactically, but he did nothing, absolutely nothing. I’ve seen more action from a street statue performer and that’s no exaggeration.

  • 77 Ancientcoptic // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:54 PM

toonarmydownsouth – when was Haidara offered out? I would have trouble believing that out of our young defenders, the one with the biggest potential would be offered out. (Then again, we did sell Forster so….)

  • 84 JackButler // Feb 1, 2014 at 6:59 PM

I dont personally blame Pardew at all, i think hes done an ok job considering what he has to put up with, JK said “Judge me on my transfers”, well signing noone certainly lets him off the hook with that. And lets not forget the king of not giving a ****, MA.

Stick a decent owner in with a clear goal of champion league football and willing to spend money in the sense that Pards can actually start at the beginning of a window, to get players in instead of relying on JK to wait till the last minute and get nothing.

Alan Pardew takes a lot of shit for basically working with what he is provided and vaguely any input, hes not the enemy here, no manager likes losing games, and no decent chairman that is actually football orientated lets there best player go with no intent of increasing a squads potential.

  • 109 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 1, 2014 at 7:10 PM

I posted yesterday we would get ripped apart, there’s a number of reasons we could do with a better manager, he would just replaced by another yes man. Mashley just thinks of money not the club, jfk is like my ars. But there’s one MASSIVE problem and that’s the foolish fans paying MA to watch shit they complain how the club is being run but they feed the problem by turning up in their thousands. Mash could get kids off the street and people would pay him to watch them.
I understand we all support our club but unless people keep away MA is here to stay, and if he does I really fear for Newcastle in the long term.

  • 114 Shadow_Shearer // Feb 1, 2014 at 7:12 PM

Pardew should really take some serious consideration on walking out, as fat boy is taking da piss, not only out of him, but also out of all the newcastle fans.
If he was 2 finish in a good position by end of season like anywhere in top 8, and play decent football, he won’t have a problem finding another job. Ppl will understand he walked out cause ashley treated him like crap. Were as if he left end of last season in 16th, nobody would take him on. He should walk while he’s at the top of his game. It’s only gonna get harder for Pardew as we’re a selling club with no ambition.

  • 115 Taking the Papiss // Feb 1, 2014 at 7:12 PM

Just got back from my 600 mile round trip to see the game.

There was only one good thing about today and that is that with some match practice I think de Jong will be a success. He fluffed a couple today but he just didn’t take the shot early enough. He tried and had some good movement and touches. When he is up front with remy instead of shola I think he will be dangerous.

In terms of assigning blame, pards got it wrong today but he was badly let down by the team and the board. You could see yesterday how much he wanted grenier and the board did not deliver. That’s why all those that are clamouring for pardew to go need to get real, we are 8 and he is working under totally ridiculous restrictions. Today he had no choice but to start with both ameobis, no disrespect to th but it isn’t good enough. Ben arfa was also a total disgrace and I hope those that were saying that he just needed a full 90 to influence a game now realise why he is on the bench. He went missing he didn’t release the ball when he did have it and when he tried to his passing was sloppy. He was also directly responsible for the third goal.

As much as people whinge about him, I would much rather have sissoko shifted inside and have hutierrez on the wing at least he gives it his all. Marveaux didn’t have a huge punt of time but he has the exact same problems as Ben arfa but with far less talent.

  • 116 GeordieTwo // Feb 1, 2014 at 7:13 PM

“Here’s another stat: in four games when they faced each other in the dugout, it’s Poyet 4 Pardew 0. Sadly lacking in tactical prowess, the United boss again demonstrated that his motivational qualities are as poor for derby matches as for cup ties. God alone knows what those next to him on the bench bring to the party.”
Another little tidbit from the same source.

Big Pappa Cisse.. what on God’s green earth are you on about? He gets constant stick from every angle on every thread without reprieve. Keep punching your easy targets mate it might make you help you release some testosterone, but it comes across as ranting angry jibberish.

Shola did well earlier in the season in a target role, plus there was no Gouffran, Remy or Cisse and De Jong has barley kicked a ball this calendar year. Shola wasn’t going to score but he gives us an outball – with a supporting midfield that’s worked this season. But given Anita, Tiote and Sissoko’s complete lack of potency in the opposition half it was left to Arfa – who as usual tried to win the game on his own.

All sorts of subliterate vitriol as per usual on here aimed at Pardew and other easy targets. I can’t see what he could have done differently today in picking the best team from what he had. He also made the point when Cabaye left in no uncertain terms that he needed to be replaced this window.

Can’t believe people think that Pardew isn’t to blame.

Just put the whole Kinner Ashley thing to one side for now.

The players Pardew had at his disposal today should have been good enough to get a result.

If he had motivated them properly and gave them a game plan we were well capable of beating them.

His style of football in all the time he has been here has been total garbage.

We turn it on 1 game in 20 and people forget about the dull, disjointed football that is being played for 90% of the season.

The club is rotten to the core now.

Mid table mediocrity maybe good enough for some clubs, some fans will accept that but not here.

If the clubs only ambition is to make money and just stay in the PL then I cant understand why people would stay pay to go and watch them?

Its only the fact we’re sitting above sunderland in the league that is not making this 1000 times worse.

Manxpie – You ask who makes Anita make a silly challenge in the box? That is a reasonable question from someone who is viewing a stream of little snippets of the game through a glass window. If you’d been there, you would have seen that goal building long before it came about. You would also see that Anita was in completely the wrong place, as were others, in the time leading up to it. Anita had a major problem long before it got in the box, and that stemmed from tactical inadequacies. The same inadequacies plus the lack of motivation were never addressed.

Accept it the season was over when 7 changes were made for the Cardiff FA Cup tie which we went on to lose. Today we were without the spine of the team Colo, Cabs & Remy. Also Papiss & Gouffy injured. We have no depth (nobody good enough to bring in). Look at the bench Obertan & Gosling (hardly good enough for Gateshead). Ashley was never going to spend so we could consolidate 8th place!

No bloody investment doesn’t help, but I think it was down to team selection and performance today. Starting shola instead of Luuk de jong baffled me especially as he had a shocker. Reviewing De jong, he looks as if he needs some work on finishing as he had some good chances when he came on. I think for the next game either haidara or dummett should start instead of santon. worst player on the pitch today. A positive today though was to see marveux have a go. needs more playing time. Anyone with me?

  • 140 Ancientcoptic // Feb 1, 2014 at 7:20 PM

    Taking the Papiss

Firstly, Kudos to you for making such a long trip to see the team play. I respect that.

I feel that your assessment of Benny is unfair though, he is an attacking midfielder, he created the most chances (5) in this game… his job description is to do exactly that.

When you have Sissoko, Anita and Tiote in the team, surely Ben Arfa creating the most chances for the side is about as close to a player doing his job today as you can get.

I don’t understand why the player tasked with creating opportunities, who created those chances has been singled out.

Our defence leaked 3 goals, with 3 defensive midfielders supposedly out there to help them… and Shola as the main goal getter, helped Sunderland more than he helped us.

  • 153 GeordieTwo // Feb 1, 2014 at 7:27 PM

There will probably be huge player unrest. Benny has been mostly poor and looks fat to me but he’ll want to leave to resurrect his career. Remy will go anywhere for better money. Cisse is like a ghost now. Santon is hopeless and has been for most of this season. Colo wants out. Most of the time we have nothing on the bench. Kinnear is useless. Ashley is probably our worst enemy of all. Hard to stand it now. I think I’ll go back to humour. What does Shearer have to say? I probably don’t want to hear it.

  • 158 Taking the Papiss // Feb 1, 2014 at 7:29 PM

Ancient whilst I see your point, just because he created 5 chances doesn’t justify his presence on the pitch over the course of 90 minutes. He was a passenger. He loses the bll and doesn’t get anywhere. I really want him to step up but the fact is that he doesn’t contribute enough. Cabaye was 10 times the player he is and I can see why Pardew wanted to replace cabaye with someone who is technical and can pass the ball…unfortunately Pardew wasn’t backed and is obviously sick of it.

The summer is now going to be hugely interesting – lots of people will be moving out, I hope Pardew gets the backing to replace them with the players he and carr wants – I am starting to feel like that is extremely unlikely…

Please explain why Pardew selects Shola when his goal scoring record, especially in recent years, is abysmal?

Please explain why Pardew sanctioned the signing of an out of form, low on confidence, forward when we’re already well covered in that department?

the fat mans 5 year plan will never work until they sort out a balanced squad so that our so called kids can go out get games and have a proper structured development, we don’t we paper over the weaknesses of lack of first teamers by holding our kids back where they di nothing till were in the sh1t and pards is forced to play them they then perform poorly and we claim they aint good enough,

while I doe feel sorry for pards in some ways like having no control of incoming and out goings but he knew this when he took the job so get on with it

what pards can be blamed for shockin subs in matches most of them are baffling at times his persitance with tactics and players that don’t work,

he keeps bringing on haidara yet the poor lad never gets a start he did with dummett a few months before he bigs them up gives them new deals then we don’t see them again

fergie last season 3 assists in 3 games from of the bench still couldn’t get a game infront of Jonas

  • 169 West Lancs Geordie // Feb 1, 2014 at 7:38 PM

HBA is a talented footballer but too greedy & not a team player. He is too much of a luxury for me but now Cabs has gone he must step up to the plate especially if he is serious about playing for France in the World Cup. Even when Cabs was with us we still need at least two centre backs as Colo is coming to an end & Saylor & Willo are just not good enough. However at present the only decent CB in the Premiership is Kompany. We also need cover at Full Back & a lively pacy forward. Tom Ince would have been just the job. Our best two young prospects Campbell & Ferguson are both out on loan & when Remy indcated he wouldn’t be staying we should have terminated the loan deal & sent him back to Harry. We don’t need greedy carpetbaggers. & Yes we will get a “replacement” of sorts for Cabs but don’t expect a world beater.

    A little food for thought.

Cabaye averaged 2.2 chances created per game. Ben Arfa created 5 against Sunderland.

Prior to this game, Ben Arfa was MOTM in his last 2 starts.

So we have Ben Arfa with 2 MOTM displays in 2 starts, and the following game with him creating more than double the chances that Cabaye is known for. (Not bad for playing in a team with rock bottom morale)

Sadly i think the fat mans 5 year plan is working exactly as he planned it to.
We were the perfect club for him to exploit. No one screaming blue murder for a trophy because there hasn’t been one for close on 50 Years.
Using our stadium to freely promote SD.
Get a manager in who is not only his mate, but also was no where near getting a jog of this magnitude any where on this planet, and then there is the constant rumour and its strong rumour here down south, that par dew owed him a an awful lot of money.
Why does everyone wonder why Pardew does not comment on this farce or that farce. Well i tell you why, he has known from day one what is going on, and its like it or lump it, if you don’t like it your not getting the job.
Im not saying he does not care at all, because I’m sure he does, but I’m afraid he got the job in the knowledge off all that was going on and this 5 year plan that is now starting to reap rewards – for our bar-steward of an owner

  • 197 solano38 // Feb 1, 2014 at 7:52 PM

This shambles is just proof yet again that we are at best a very average club and on days like today a right mess.

We’ve been riding our luck for some time and now the crunch has come. No points today, a probable slaughter at Chelsea and a drubbing by Spurs. We’re going to fall in the bottom half of the league, and by the end of the season we’ll be thanking our lucky stars that we got some points on the board before Christmas.

Pardew has no idea what he’s doing. If there had been any other owner at Newcastle, he’d have been fired a long time ago.

And he can’t blame Cabaye’s departure – it was predictable. When Arsenal lose their good players, it’s hardly noticeable, becasue Wenger is a good manager. We lose one good player and it’s disaster all round.

No decent player would want to come and play for Newcastle : once again we’ve been made the laughing stock of the football community, and who can blame them?

    A) I haven’t watched them in training. I’ve watched them in matches where it counts. Never mind taking set pieces, Santon can’t even shoot or cross in open play! He chokes both. Are you blind?
    B) Even if Marv was never yours or Pardew’s first choice, he should never have been ostracised when he’s now being called upon to perform in our biggest game of the season. Pardew once ostracised Willo the same way and was forced to bring him back.
    C) Pardew will tell you that he has the final say on signings. Where have you got your information that the club would buy someone that he doesn’t want?

Ben Arfa created 5 chances, which for an attacking midfielder, is what he is supposed to do. In fact creating 5 goal scoring opportunities is above average for an attacking midfielder… who by the way, does not have defensive duties in his job description.

Would anybody like to have a small wager?

I would bet than Ben Arfa was in our top 3 players for pass completion, if he isn’t, I would lose the wager.

Well that was an utter disaster, I feel sick and gut wrenched but unlike last season, I’m not surprised, I could not see us winning today and would’ve happily taken a draw. For me the most distressing thing is that when it comes to playing our dear neighbours it’s actually started to become a mental thing, they have become our bogey team.
Since the 5-1 game we have won one out of 7 derbies and yet we have finished above them the last two seasons and could well do again, on paper I still maintain that we are a better team.
With regards to Pardew I can understand why some people want him out but I’m not so sure, if you take out the two derby defeats and losing to Cardiff in the cup and Hull at home it has actually been a relatively good season, winning away at Man Utd, Tottenham and beating Chelsea spring to mind, although Pardew can often be a naive manager and a bit simplistic in his tactics I think the major problems are above him.
What really astounds me about fat Ash is, what is the mindset of someone who buys a huge, very proud club with distinct traditions and almost seems to make decisions to deliberately get the supporters against him. He is a joke and his transfer policy is disgraceful. You don’t sell your best player and replace him with no one and as for Kinnear there are no words.
In the summer get the check book out and buy either Remy or de Jong or both, we must keep Hatem and Marveaux. Pardew’s selection today was wrong as Sammy and Shola should not have started, where was Gouff?
I still think that we can make this a good season and finish in the top half but for the long term future we need to get either fat Ash or Kinnear out, hopefully both.
We will bounce back from this, we are too big a club with too good a squad not to.

can someone who was at the game today please tell me how much abuse the FCB ( presumably he turned up?) and co were getting today after that complete shambles? I am voting with my feet , first derby missed for 40 years and I wont be back until the fat thieving bastard is removed

I agree to an extent and I like hba it gets me on my feet but he doesn’t work hard enough to be playing in the middle of the park for 90 minutes that’s the difference between him and cabaye.

im not saying his shite but sometimes he needs to do more and improve his all round game.

    Why does Pardew ask Santon to take free-kicks? Becasue he’s got nobody else : this is called clutching at straws. Bad coaching;

HBA seems often to be at a loss, and therefore ends up making bad decisions. Bad coaching.

Sissoko is good 1 match out of every 5 – perhaps i’m being a bit generous there. Not good enough. Why use a player who is so inconsistent? Bad coaching

I wonder what a really good manager would make of this lot……

    I’m with tads on this.

Catchy you’re talking absolute shit about walkng out of a job. You’re so blinded by your hatred of pardew you’re actually starting to invent faults.

Todays result was absolutelt horrendous. No passion, no fight, no tactics, the 2 chuckle brothers starting (however Sammy was half decent on Tues). The season was effectively over after Cardiff playing for pride and nothing else. Players clearly don’t get that.

De Jong when he came on got in some decent positions so the service was there for him at least. I found a lot during the game that players (and not just for toon also in Man U game) when trailing would opt for over running and trying to do it all themselves hunting for the derby glory, instead of passing to people in better positions.

I honestly didn’t expect a 3-0 reverse today but was over it pretty much as soon as I was out of the ground. Sign of the times maybe?

I was determined not to comment on todays result but have given in.

First I am not going to give any of NUFC hierarchy the honour of using Mr in front of there names, as that means they are honourable people. and that cannot be said about Ashley, Kinnear or Pardew, neither of the first two were at the game today, so that is where they place the club, players and fans, we are a means to lining there pockets that all. As for Pardew, he is every bit as bad as them, and everything he spouts forth with I would think has been OK’d with Ashley etc first, but its sounds cool to say it. He gets am awful lot of press time, but who sold the idea on Cabaye been available if the right money was offered, then moans on about him going. Hell he’s the manager (so they say), Tim Sherwood tell levy at Spurs if you wanna buy Berbatov go get him but I am not going to play him – that’s standing up to the owner, has Pardew ever done that, has he hell.

As for his ability to organise a team to get the best out of them well that’s another story but 0 – 3 sort of answers it.

They are all guilty, and ably supported by all those employed in management positions at NUFC.

That was a return to the disjointed side of last season and early this season that couldn’t pass and move in unison. I think Pardew should either attempt to adapt the side to Benny’s strengths or just drop him. It’s a appalling situation because Benny is such a different type of player, the whole system would need to change and not at all likely to provide consistent winning football.

We might have been able to build a team around Benny if we had Cabaye to pass and move and cover behind him, but now he’s gone we have a real problem.

Ed what planet are you on?? How can you judge games from where you are?? I agree with a comment earlier In the week. You are just using this to make money. Cos u do put.
