There is a report in CaughtOffside tonight that Newcastle are interested in 30 year-old Dutch International play-maker Rafael van der Vaart, but there seems no way that Newcastle will be bringing in a 30 year-old – well as long as Newcastle are owned by Mike Ashley.
Rafael van der Vaart - turns 31 next week
With Newcastle having failed to make a permanent signing in the last two transfer windows, and with a number of our players certain to be leaving the club this summer, Newcastle will need to bring in quite a few players over the summer months.
So we will see lots of different reports that we are after this player or that, but if the player is 30 years-old or older – then those reports probably have not much truth to them.
The player turns 31 next Tuesday, and he was good at Tottenham and has Premier League experience, and certainly has loads of skill, but one of his big weaknesses under Harry Redknapp was that he was never too eager to track back and help out in defense.
Monaco are one of the clubs after him, and with the French club being owned by a Billionaire who is very willing to spend lots of money on the team, he could well end up at the French club in the summer, and leave Hamburg, whom he joined after leaving Tottenham in the summer of 2012.
We doubt very much that Newcastle are after Rafael, or that if we were interested in him, he would want to come to Newcastle.
