Newcastle United’s 22 year-old full-back James Tavernier has been on loan at Rotherham United since late November in England’s third tier, and so far he has played 12 games with two goals, and he has recently been nominated for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award.
James Tavernier – up for Player of the Month
James joined Rotherham on 28th November 2013 on an initial short-term emergency loan deal, but he has done so well that the loan deal has been extended until the end of the season, at which time James will have one year of his three-year contract remaining at Newcastle.
During his time at Newcastle James has been on loan at Gateshead, Carlisle United, Sheffield Wednesday, Milton Keynes Dons and Shrewsbury Town and has played 64 games with two goals while on loan, and he has 10 first team appearances so far for Newcastle.
James is on a four-man short-list of the League One’s top-performing players for last month, with the other three players being Nicky Ajose of Peterborough, Scott Cuthbert of Leyton Orient) and Marcello Trotta of Brentford.
This winner will be announced on Friday, and let’s hope the Newcastle man wins the award.
James will have a chance this pre-season to show how much he has progressed while being on loan at Rotherham for more than half a season, where he has been very impressive.
21 year-old Haris Vuckic is also on loan at Rotherham, and has played 11 times with one terrific goal for the Millers, and he has 18 first team appearances for Newcastle so far, with one goal.
Rotherham are currently 5th in League One, with 51 points from 29 games and are in a play-off position, and 10 points off an automatic promotion spot.
