New Pizza Deal Has One Big Hitch – And It’s Not The Sauce

3:31 pm, Thursday, February 6th, 2014 by Ed Harrison · 140 Comments

After a number of bad news stories over the last two weeks at Newcastle, at last some good news – well sort of – with Papa John’s becoming the Official Pizza Partner of Newcastle United.

papa john's

But the deal only lasts until the rest of the season, and gives Newcastle fans the chance to claim 50% off their pizza orders.

But there’s a catch – a big one – it’s only when Newcastle score two goals – so that’s a pity.

And news reports have pointed out that Newcastle have failed to score in their last three Premier League games at home, and in five of their last six league games.

Oh well the thought was good while it lasted. :D

Dale Aitchison, is of Partnerships for Newcastle United  and he had this to say:

“This is a really exciting partnership and one that I’m sure the supporters will enjoy. The fans play a big part in our performances at home and on the road and it’s great that Papa
John’s have shown their appreciation for the support they give our players.”

A really exciting partnership is probably overstating it quite a bit – it would have been really exciting if Papa John’s had agreed to put £10M into Newcastle’s coffers in each of the next three seasons – that would have been really exciting.

Andrew Gallagher is Papa John’s Marketing Director, and he was pleased the American Pizza company, who have been expanding their links with English football in the lower divisions, have an agreement with one of  “giants of English football.”

Is he talking about Newcastle?

These deals are all very well and good,  but where’s the (big) money in it for Newcastle?

Comments welcome.

Looking at some of the bellies in the crowds at home, I would interpret this as good news, on those rare occasions we score goals that is.

  • 2 JackButler // Feb 6, 2014 at 3:35 PM

Ed, the bad news just keeps on coming mate as Willie D has been suspended for striking a player.

    Never a dull moment

  • 3 ChicagoToon // Feb 6, 2014 at 3:35 PM

Too bad Papa Johns is gross

  • 4 lesh // Feb 6, 2014 at 3:36 PM

Ah well, that’s the post-match supper out the window.

    @5 previous post
welcome to the virtual world of social media

Their might have been much worst in years gone by but what was missing in them years was internet, instead it was all about a social night out with friends you knew and the if you disagreed with them you would soon get round it as the important thing was you remained friends.

Now you have all sorts of things from facebook, twitter to blogs, forums and all these have one thing in common they are available worldwide, so while before the chatting was a calm a relaxing on with friends, now it a very argumentative one with all sorts of people from the rude and selfish, to the overly soft and very polite.

the big thing about all of this is we don’t know the people we speak to so don’t put half as much thought into our options.

i’m not wanting it to sound offensive bloggers.
    sorry if it sounds offensive.

all i’m saying really is how things have changed now that the internet is so big.

@3, I have never tried one, but I have heard it’s the marmite pizza. People either love, or loathe them. Nobody says ‘they’re alright’

wolfs… well no we were not talking about Pardew out!

…I have called for Pardew to resign, not for Mike to fire him (it will have the wrong effect ;) )

To tell you, Catchy was saying:

    Off to learn Norwegian

    See ya!

    …and I replied:

    Have fun

    See ya!

  • 8 lesh // Feb 6, 2014 at 3:40 PM

ChicagoToon…… Some folk are never satisfied. It’s academic anyway, how many times we scored two or more?

On the upside though, might we be seeing some non SD advertising at SJP?

  • 9 lesh // Feb 6, 2014 at 3:43 PM

I was gonna ask what the club gets out of this partnership but if there’s free pizza kicking about we’re sure to see more of Ashley at matches.

They have got the publicity they want
for free and it wont cost them much

How many players have developed under
Willie D ? He is another weakness.

  • 20 mag // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:05 PM

Pardews use of “my focus is only on the next game” that’s an odd thing for him to say it sounds as if he’s heard a whisper off Kinnear that if Chelsea hammer us he’s off as well.

  • 21 Conaldo (The Wizard - Member of the Triangle of Intelligence) // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:10 PM

Can’t see us getting half price pepperoni anytime soon sadly…

    How’s everyone doing ?

  • 22 theartfuldodger // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:10 PM

Were you lucky enough that the annoying fan in front of was the one who have Pardew his season ticket?

  • 25 Rotonda heights // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:17 PM

So pardew is ”very sad” to see JFK go. I’m sure this guy couldn’t walk in a straight line!

So just to add to his superb man management where he freezes players out and plays his favourites saylor and Shola etc and orders a return to hoofball on the departure of a single player, Pardew’s ability to deflect any criticism or say what he really thinks shows no sign of abating any time soon.

  • 26 Conaldo (The Wizard - Member of the Triangle of Intelligence) // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:18 PM

    Why thankyou Jesper :)

How are you doing, it’s been a very long time haha.

Hopefully I’ll be on here a bit more over the next few weeks, but I just haven’t had the time to get on (or the energy to to argue with everyone haha)

  • 27 mag // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:20 PM

His walk will be straight enough if Chelsea hand out a humiliating defeat on Saturday.

  • 28 theartfuldodger // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:20 PM

This deal has been running since the start of the season, and it applies to the fans of every single club.

It is not a specific partnership with Newcastle.

  • 31 Conaldo (The Wizard - Member of the Triangle of Intelligence) // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:23 PM

Haha tads. As far as I am aware, the really irritating bloke is still up in level 7, so he would have had some difficulty getting down to the pitch haha. I’ve got lucky with my ticket in the gallowgate now, the people in my immediate area all seem canny. There’s a few very shouty angry people, but no worse than I can be at times haha. I still get terrible people sitting next to me in every cup game though – one benefit of being out of the cups!

    How have you been?

  • 32 Rotonda heights // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:24 PM

    Mag

stop building up my hopes, sadly I think with Ash he’s here for the long haul and 2 wrongs certainly don’t make a right.

Would like to think that Ash could appoint a good D.O.F and manager and negotiate with a creditable sponsor, someone like Virgin! Never going to happen so just pray for an Ambani type etc!

That pizza outfit are as safe as houses. With pardew’s ”containing” football we are on a run of 5 losses in 7 games (with / without Cabaye)and a measly 3 goals scored.

  • 33 Ancientcoptic // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:24 PM

Oh i forgot…. default mode again. If two things do not agree, Pardew is lying. Sorry to confront you like this but sometime you come accross so bitter.

  • 39 ErnestHemingway // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:31 PM

You can’t have a cabaye replacement but you can have a half price pizza if a team without a great deal of creativity or goal scorers can score two or more goals.

    That should placate the fans.

    Way aye, Mike. Way aye.

  • 44 Conaldo (The Wizard - Member of the Triangle of Intelligence) // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:39 PM

Jesper – yeah it’s been a while since I’ve been on, I’ve been very busy with Uni and stuff, and it’s still very difficult to comment on the blog from a mobile, so I can only really come on when I’m sat down for a few hours with the laptop, which hasn’t been very often for the last few months!

All is well though, sadly I’m no longer the persistent optimist I was before haha, last season really took a lot out of me. Even with us in 8th I think a lot needs to change.

  • 45 Conaldo (The Wizard - Member of the Triangle of Intelligence) // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:42 PM

I’ll give you a bit if credit as some of what you say occasionally make sense but there’s being naive and then there’s being in lala land. This is one of those times.

Did you not hear Pardew say if he had been in charge of transfers ” it would have been different” A real endorsement of someone you’re allegedly sad to see leave.

Pardew is look after number 1 and always has been. Why should I be bitter with someone who is breaking all time club records for all the wrong reasons. Can’t think…!

If people like you think he is doing a bang up job, ie losing at home 3-0, 2 year running against a bottom team whose only player Johnson would get in our squad let alone team, then frankly you are just perpetuating this acceptance of mediocrity. No you really are.

I think we should be looking at Diafra Sakho from Metz. Looks like another Remy..been banging them in for fun this season aswel. Same agent as Hatem, Moussa and Debs if thats a plus and contract runs out in 2015 could get for cheap in summer.

havent scanned through the comments. Been busy today. So sorry for repeating the joke. May i be disemboweled.

As for being in lala land, i did not say that either scenario was true. Maybe when pardew said that, he was having a dig at ashley, and ashley has deflected this by sacking Kinnear. You know as well as anyone that ANYTHING could be true at NUFC. Your opinions are never unfounded, i respect them for that. It just came across bitter on this occasion

  • 50 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:55 PM

I like Papa John’s pizzas. Had them from the Team Valley shop a few times. Really nice.

I won’t be getting 50% off though as Cabaye has gone so we won’t score as many free kicks and we’ll need a couple of sendings off from the opposition to rack up the three goals needed. Although of late, we’ll be lucky to get any at all.

Nice one, Alan. You’re even messing up the 50% off discount code as well as an offensive outlook to football. Cheers. Not.

  • 51 Markaccus // Feb 6, 2014 at 4:57 PM

I think Borini would get a game for us, as would their goaly. Possibly Alonso too as santon is not performing at LB at the moment.

  • 52 Markaccus // Feb 6, 2014 at 5:02 PM

Also, no manager is going to make a statement that reads “Joe was f#cking useless. I am pleased to see the back of the fat old c#nt”. Although i would personally buy Pardew his beer all weekend if he had!! :D

  • 53 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 5:03 PM

Asking us to score the three goals for the offer to be activated is like a tall kid holding a small kid’s packet of crips in the air which he has no chance of reaching.

He just looks pathetic for trying.

  • 54 Markaccus // Feb 6, 2014 at 5:05 PM

Wizard…do you use an android smartphone?

We have been discussing the redirects and malware one here alot lately. If you have an android smartphone try set your phone to allowing thirs part programs (basically apps you cannot download from goggle play) and download Adblock Plus :D

If you have an Iphone try using Adaway :)

  • 56 70TWO // Feb 6, 2014 at 5:10 PM

Regarding the match at the weekend, Chelsea stopped ManC playing straight onto goal, so we will have to play around the sides, getting crosses in and shooting from wide (which is what we do best). If AP only wants to replace Tiote from the same starting line up, he only has to bring in Mbiwa or Gosling. I personally don’t like seeing defenders pushed forwards, but it won’t make much difference with the number of players already used out of position. Some might say what ever team is put out the result will be the same.

  • 57 70TWO // Feb 6, 2014 at 5:14 PM

    Goal 1 = not concede
    Goal 2 = score
    Goal 3 = pizza

  • 58 Markaccus // Feb 6, 2014 at 5:18 PM

Sissoko as a winger is ‘ out of position’ although he seems comfortable there. Everyone else seems to have been used in a position that they are recognised in, whether it is their primary position or not. I would argue that only goofy (some say he is more a cf than a wide forward) and hba ( some say he is a winger and some say a no10) are the only others maybe not used in their primary/prefered position.

  • 59 p // Feb 6, 2014 at 5:19 PM

OK, you got me, a slight slip of exaggeration!
Would you ever see Santon playing on the right wing? I remember Beckham being introduced on at RB before he moved further forward. Santon is not the best at going forward on the left, but likes to chip balls in towards the forwards, should be able to adapt well?

I personally do not like santon at left back, he always cuts in on his strong foot, and seems to end up well out of position defensively as a result. So yes, trying him as a right winger ( he has done before, i am sure he was there when he scored v wigan last season) cant be a bad idea.

  • 72 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 6:34 PM

Is it true Tiote is out for a month? This doesn’t sound good at all. As for Donachie let’s wait and see but it doesn’t sound good. You should never strike a player in my view. You can have plenty to say to him but hands off! The reserves have been poor for a number of reasons which have been mentioned at NUFC.com. That said however it’s not clear to me that we have a very good organization for hiring quality people. Let’s see, we hired Joe again didn’t we? How well did that go? And we’ve had numerous other farces at the club including the poison dwarf Wise. I’m afraid incompetence begins at the top with us.

  • 73 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Feb 6, 2014 at 6:37 PM

A lot of you (well it’s actually just Tsunki moaning away) have asked me to step in with Markaccus. Apparently he’s been mistreating his budgies when we lose games. I want to keep this very quiet mates so don’t discuss it in public. We are arranging an intervention for Markaccus. This coming weekend after the game. And if anyone else is also planning an intervention for Markaccus could you please hold off until we’re finished with ours? I believe DokToon will want to get in on this as well. Ta everyone.

Doh!!! You had me excited for a minute there jesper mate. Who is going to take Tiote’s place then? I’m sure we must have another top DM stashed away somewhere? In the reserves? No? In the U-18 squad? No/ In the U-16′s?

  • 83 Reggie // Feb 6, 2014 at 6:48 PM

    Ed,

Please get JFK photo off this website, he makes me sick…next is MA to go!

TADS @ 74, agree mate, since when has a player been sent off become a crime? If this is the case every decision will be challenged in the courts with clubs, players and the FA being fined and eventually going out of business.

We will miss CT as probs the best in form player left at the club.

  • 84 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 6:51 PM

You see? We are tremendously deep in talent. We can choose between Bigi, and er Bigi to replace Tiote since Anita is already replacing Cabaye. No problem. Chelsea aren’t hard to beat at home under Mourinho so it should be a cake walk lads! :) As for Gosling jesper, he’ll definitely be exciting to watch sitting on the bench. I’m not sure what I’d do with Obertan tads mate except possibly hide him in a sack somewhere and pretend we’ve never heard of him.

Whilst I still think we have an outside chance of 6/7th and EL, now would be an ideal time to make these sorts of changes to improve players. I am not saying start Santon on the right wing this Saturday but he could be brought on as an impact sub after 60 mins if we are losing. Although he may do a very good job at marking Hazard out the game if he were to start.

  • 86 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 6, 2014 at 6:56 PM

The thing I’d like to know is when you fail in an appeal if the FA deem it frivolous then the FA can add an additional game ban
So if they take it this sports court and they seem it a red does he get additional games onto the ban?

  • 87 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 6, 2014 at 6:56 PM

Our squad is looking real thin these days, my team for Chelsea would be :

    —————————–Krul——————————-
    –Debuchy——–Willo———M’biwa——–Haidara–

    ————–Sissoko——————–Tiote—————-

    ——HBA————–Marveaux————Sammy——

    —————————–Cisse——————————

I would give Cisse another chance with Remy out and De Jong still not 100% (Although I would bring him on with 30 minutes left on the clock) as Cisse has good history at Stamford bridge .

  • 88 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Feb 6, 2014 at 6:58 PM

GT…it sure is an exciting bench to watch…just beautiful ;)

  • 89 toonking // Feb 6, 2014 at 6:58 PM

    BPC
2 players are missing tiote out for 3 games and cisse is still out.

  • 90 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 6:59 PM

Tiote is out for a month Big Pappa @85. More bad news I’m afraid.

  • 91 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:01 PM

Yes, yes it is jesper and it gets more exciting all the time. I rarely watch the game nowadays. The way our players perform the bench is far more exciting. :)

  • 92 70TWO // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:01 PM

    Big Pappa Cissé

Its either Mbiwa or Gosling in for Tiote, I think Brigi is also out but unconfirmed.

  • 93 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:03 PM

Oh god no Tiote :( . I seriously hope we don’t get turned over down there, that’s all we need .

    Revised team ;) :

    —————————–Krul——————————-

    –Debuchy——–Willo———M’biwa——–Haidara–

    ————–Sissoko——————–Anita—————-

    ——HBA————–Marveaux————Sammy——

    —————————–Cisse——————————

  • 94 Reggie // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:04 PM

    TADS,
they have appealed already and lost, I thought the same as you that the Independant appeal board could award an extra 1match suspension!

  • 95 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:05 PM

Cisse has a back problem and is out as well Big Pappa. Sorry to spoil your day mate. But don’t worry, we have a lot of very high quality depth on the bench.

  • 96 wolfshead@toon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:06 PM

two teams in different places since we beat them at home they are getting stronger while we have hit the self destruct button as per i have a sinking feeling they might rip us a new one

  • 97 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:06 PM

GT…about Markaccus and the intervention. Mark asked me a couple of days ago “whether you could punish a bird for being naughty?”

…of course I told him “you have to present yourself like you are the big bird on the block. No, spanking means nothing to a bird. Position means a lot, though. Until your bird accepts you as Big Bird, keep him below your eye level.” ;)

I hope that will help you with the intervention!

  • 98 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:07 PM

Yes our depth is truly awesome, as we are going to find out against Chelsea. Beautiful. It really pays to have a top quality DoF on the job. Oh wait…

  • 99 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:08 PM

Hibbit, I thought the club didn’t refer clients to the Jesmond Dene Hotel anymore?

I’m sure I remember reading this from someone.

Maybe, but maybe not. I don’t know. Again, just from reading what someone said a few months ago.

  • 100 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:09 PM

Some very good points there @95 jesper mate. I think that’s how we’ll handle the whole Markaccus thing. We’ll keep him below our eye level while convincing him we have his best interests at heart. No tea or crumpets for him until he breaks down and admits his crimes.

  • 101 Big Pappa Cissé // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:09 PM

    I give up :) .

Can’t see us getting 3 points anytime soon :( .

  • 102 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:09 PM

Probably due to the leaking of info which went on before via our mole.

  • 103 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:11 PM

I am sorry, but isn’t the Jesmond Dene Hotel in London?

  • 104 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:13 PM

GT…just make sure you are the Big Bird ;)

  • 105 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:15 PM

    Jesper, it’s local.

  • 106 wolfshead@toon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:15 PM

no its in jesmond dene haha

  • 107 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:16 PM

Don’t worry jesper mate. I’ll take immediate control of the situation. Assess the birds, make sure Tsunki and DokToon are in position (all with our best chest hair on of course), and set up the crumpets in tantalizing fashion just beyond Markaccus’s reach. Beautiful.

  • 108 wolfshead@toon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:16 PM

its a posh knocking shop jesper lol

  • 109 wolfshead@toon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:17 PM

    geordie

thats me out im a muffin man

  • 110 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:17 PM

Wolfie would you be able to attend the intervention for Markaccus as well mate? We need somebody to bring some ropes and tie downs in case Markaccus is grumpy.

  • 111 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:19 PM

Dohhh!!!! Don’t back out so quickly wolfie mate. It’s going to be a lot of fun! I’ll bring muffins as well then. How do you feel about Papa Johns pizza?

  • 112 Jeff from Benwell // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:20 PM

A point at Chelsea will feel like a win

  • 113 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:20 PM

    *what do I know ;)

  • 114 wolfshead@toon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:21 PM

    geordie

deffo mate il bring ropes i bought off joe he told me they were used on hms victory ;-)

  • 115 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:23 PM

I get the feeling that The Inflatable Man is gearing up for a sale, although it’s hard to tell as he may just be stepping up his money making instead.

Is it next year Rangers can get to the Scottish Premier or will it be the year after? I haven’t checked where they are.

My pal who likes Celtic said they’re revamping the league so it’ll not take as long to get back. Or something along those lines.

  • 116 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:23 PM

I’m beginning to sense that the whole Markaccus intervention may grow too big to hold in his flat. Perhaps we should hire a hall with catering?

  • 117 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:24 PM

GT…NO climbing up to a high perch, no shoulder sitting! That does amazing things to his head and to his thinking.

Something else you can do is what a mother bird or a mate would do. If he hurts you, bites or claws you in some way, and it’s not something you want him to do, very quickly growl at him, like they do to each other.

I really hope the intervention will be a success ;)

  • 118 wolfshead@toon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:25 PM

pope johns pizzas were the best 5 pepperonis and 2 garlic breads could feed 5000

  • 119 Ibizatoon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:26 PM

What are we having an intervention for? I personally don’t like to meddle with other peoples business….

    Funny right?

  • 120 toonking // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:26 PM

although i doubt it, maybe just maybe JFK was doing his job right and the culprit was truthfully ashley.

the reason i say this is based upon this quote from alan shearer
“But they can only get players in if there’s one man prepared to sign a chequebook.”

the is already stories saying that JFK was force out by ashley and if ashley can keep a manager when we were in a relegation battle then it certainly must take lots for him to force JFK out.

maybe JFK was giving ashley all the abuse himself behind the scenes and just didn’t want to let the media know.

what ever it was that caused him to get sacked, the truth is like the carroll transfer this too will never be known unless that fat ba**ard speaks, which he won’t.

  • 121 Ibizatoon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:27 PM

As for this new association of ours…some pride at last!

I’m off to Papa Johns to celebrate!

  • 122 Jeff from Benwell // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:27 PM

Anyone seen that kids stats on Sissoko ?
Could he be the hidden playmaker
C’mon AP give him a go at the Bridge it’s shit or bust anyway
we could have a diamond hiding in our dustbin

  • 123 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:31 PM

Ibiza mate you have to stay abreast of events. This is a secret intervention for Markaccus who has been accused (by Tsunki) of mistreating his budgies after each of our losses. The planning is well underway so if you want in on it you will have to stop off on your way back from holiday. Can you bring anything useful? We still haven’t had anyone volunteer to bring tasers for example.

  • 124 DokToon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:32 PM

    G2,

may i suggest an exile to the horrid colonials across the pond? weak beer, and bland food may teach him to appreciate his surroundings… i have a spare kennel in my backyard :)

  • 125 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:33 PM

    Laurent Robert

Haven’t Rangers just had another financial set back??
Could be an ideal time for him to ” swoop in and save the day”
Wouldn’t cost him much don’t think

  • 126 wolfshead@toon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:33 PM

    ibiza

do your speed flex exercises afterwards a moment on the lips…. haha

  • 127 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:33 PM

Jesper can you have a word with Ibiza mate? He just isn’t staying abreast (I find I like to say abreast) of events.

  • 128 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:35 PM

A bit harsh but it may prove necessary DokToon mate. Markaccus has always been a bit willful and strong headed. Still I am hoping to make progress at the intervention. Can you bring a few of those extendable rods the police use to whack people with by the way? :)

  • 129 toonking // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:36 PM

    mike cashley fat
    pizzas a fattening food

    mike ashley loves cash

newcastle score 2 goals and we get 50% off pizzas

this sponsor even more money for him to save on take aways

  • 130 wolfshead@toon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:38 PM

    geordie

large pink dildos should shock him into seeing the error of his ways

  • 131 jesperfuglsang - captain of the lemon crew // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:38 PM

GT…I have told Ibiza to stay out of the sun, but he just won’t listen mate ;)

…be abreast you say – Ibiza have not been abreast for the last two month (he has spend them sowing his royal oats in America) lol

  • 132 DokToon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:39 PM

    g2,

i think i have one of those embedded in my calf ( not saying what i did to deserve it, mind you)

  • 133 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:39 PM

Toonarmydownsouth, I think they have although that seems to be happening all the time.

Yeah, tubs might swoop in when they’re at their lowest. Easy pickings for him. Is that about now? Maybe he’s biding his time and is trying to be at the ready. Hence zero full signings (apart from the kid) in the last two windows. Trying to maximise his profits before he leaves.

  • 134 John Tudor // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:40 PM

count you have obviously spelt your name wrong imbecile

  • 135 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:42 PM

Good shock value there wolfie mate. I think this really has a chance to work with all of us working together. Markaccus is going to be so surprised! :)

  • 136 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:45 PM

    Laurent
He certainly seems to be trimming the running costs and minimising outgoing funds at the moment

Seem to remember Rangers players being told they need to take a pay cut (10%?) he’s a minor shareholder so would he be able to perhaps persuade the board to help get costs down ready for him to buy? (I have no idea probably illegal!)

  • 137 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:49 PM

Well now that we’re all fully abreast of recent happenings we can discuss footy again.

  • 138 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:53 PM

Pardew really is in a weak position but he continues to toe the line for MIke. His squad is actually quite poor and nothing has been done about that. No key decisions made since Joe came in. Surviving on loans and selling our best players. Setting it up for a big turnover this summer but we may end up with a much weaker starting 11 at the end of it. Now that Ashley sees that we can compete in mid table he won’t spend much unless he gets an absolute windfall in the summer.

  • 139 lochinvar // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:51 PM

Could have been worse – might have been Kinnears new business venture…”Papa Joe’s” !

  • 140 USAGEORDIE // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:57 PM

This is awesome! Papa John’s is probably the second largest Pizza chain in the US. The biggest athlete in the country is in their commercials for Pete sake! Peyton Manning that is. They definitely have the “dough” to sponsor a big club!
