New Pizza Deal Has One Big Hitch – And It’s Not The Sauce

After a number of bad news stories over the last two weeks at Newcastle, at last some good news – well sort of – with Papa John’s becoming the Official Pizza Partner of Newcastle United.

papa john's

But the deal only lasts until the rest of the season, and gives Newcastle fans the chance to claim 50% off their pizza orders.

But there’s a catch – a big one – it’s only when Newcastle score two goals – so that’s a pity.

And news reports have pointed out that Newcastle have failed to score in their last three Premier League games at home, and in five of their last six league games.

Oh well the thought was good while it lasted. 😀

Dale Aitchison, is of Partnerships for Newcastle United  and he had this to say:

“This is a really exciting partnership and one that I’m sure the supporters will enjoy. The fans play a big part in our performances at home and on the road and it’s great that Papa
John’s have shown their appreciation for the support they give our players.”

A really exciting partnership is probably overstating it quite a bit – it would have been really exciting if Papa John’s had agreed to put £10M into Newcastle’s coffers in each of the next three seasons – that would have been really exciting.

Andrew Gallagher is Papa John’s Marketing Director, and he was pleased the American Pizza company, who have been expanding their links with English football in the lower divisions, have an agreement with one of  “giants of English football.”

Is he talking about Newcastle?

These deals are all very well and good,  but where’s the (big) money in it for Newcastle?

Comments welcome.

Looking at some of the bellies in the crowds at home, I would interpret this as good news, on those rare occasions we score goals that is.

    @5 previous post
welcome to the virtual world of social media

Their might have been much worst in years gone by but what was missing in them years was internet, instead it was all about a social night out with friends you knew and the if you disagreed with them you would soon get round it as the important thing was you remained friends.

Now you have all sorts of things from facebook, twitter to blogs, forums and all these have one thing in common they are available worldwide, so while before the chatting was a calm a relaxing on with friends, now it a very argumentative one with all sorts of people from the rude and selfish, to the overly soft and very polite.

the big thing about all of this is we don’t know the people we speak to so don’t put half as much thought into our options.

i’m not wanting it to sound offensive bloggers.
    sorry if it sounds offensive.

all i’m saying really is how things have changed now that the internet is so big.

@3, I have never tried one, but I have heard it’s the marmite pizza. People either love, or loathe them. Nobody says ‘they’re alright’

wolfs… well no we were not talking about Pardew out!

…I have called for Pardew to resign, not for Mike to fire him (it will have the wrong effect 😉 )

To tell you, Catchy was saying:

    Off to learn Norwegian

    See ya!

    …and I replied:

    Have fun

    See ya!

ChicagoToon…… Some folk are never satisfied. It’s academic anyway, how many times we scored two or more?

On the upside though, might we be seeing some non SD advertising at SJP?

I was gonna ask what the club gets out of this partnership but if there’s free pizza kicking about we’re sure to see more of Ashley at matches.

Pardew has stated his sadness at Kinnears sacking. Reading between the lines he seems resigned to following Kinnear out of the club.

They have got the publicity they want
for free and it wont cost them much
in the future at the rate goals scored.

How many players have developed under
Willie D ? He is another weakness.

Pardews use of “my focus is only on the next game” that’s an odd thing for him to say it sounds as if he’s heard a whisper off Kinnear that if Chelsea hammer us he’s off as well.

So pardew is ”very sad” to see JFK go. I’m sure this guy couldn’t walk in a straight line!

So just to add to his superb man management where he freezes players out and plays his favourites saylor and Shola etc and orders a return to hoofball on the departure of a single player, Pardew’s ability to deflect any criticism or say what he really thinks shows no sign of abating any time soon.

This deal has been running since the start of the season, and it applies to the fans of every single club.

It is not a specific partnership with Newcastle.

Haha tads. As far as I am aware, the really irritating bloke is still up in level 7, so he would have had some difficulty getting down to the pitch haha. I’ve got lucky with my ticket in the gallowgate now, the people in my immediate area all seem canny. There’s a few very shouty angry people, but no worse than I can be at times haha. I still get terrible people sitting next to me in every cup game though – one benefit of being out of the cups!

    How have you been?

stop building up my hopes, sadly I think with Ash he’s here for the long haul and 2 wrongs certainly don’t make a right.

Would like to think that Ash could appoint a good D.O.F and manager and negotiate with a creditable sponsor, someone like Virgin! Never going to happen so just pray for an Ambani type etc!

That pizza outfit are as safe as houses. With pardew’s ”containing” football we are on a run of 5 losses in 7 games (with / without Cabaye)and a measly 3 goals scored.

How do you know how someone really feels? How do you know that yesterdays two seperate reports were not true, and kinnear was sacked due to his uselessness and nowt to do with pardew?

Oh i forgot…. default mode again. If two things do not agree, Pardew is lying. Sorry to confront you like this but sometime you come accross so bitter.

You can’t have a cabaye replacement but you can have a half price pizza if a team without a great deal of creativity or goal scorers can score two or more goals.

    That should placate the fans.

    Way aye, Mike. Way aye.
