Alan Pardew was as upbeat as he could be in his press conference today, but he did say it’s been a tough week in training but the lads have done well on the training ground this week.
Alan Pardew – we’re back to work – building up our confidence
This is some of what Alan had to say today:
“We’re up against a very very good side and we have to make sure we have to defend well but we also have to offer a threat.”
“We’ve worked well on the training ground this week.” “It’s been a disappointing week as you can imagine, but still we’ve worked well this week.”
“We’re back to work and now and building our confidence up.” “It’s now about getting us and our position in the league more secure and my job is the next game, and that’s what I’m focusing on.”
Alan also said that a manager’s job these days is not on the financial side of transfers, and he hasn’t been involved on the financial side of transfers for at least seven years, and that’s probably the way it should be.
English football is now following the continental model, where the manager is basically the coach and his job is to get best out of the players he has available.
The Director of Football and higher-ups in the club deal with all the transfers into and out of the club.
Newcastle need to get their confidence up and try to win one of their next two games, either at Chelsea (impossible?) or at home to Tottenham, and that would help raise the spirits of the Newcastle fans, who are not too happy at the moment. 🙁
And we still cannot believe the incompetence shown by the club last week, but I’m sure we’ll get over it – but it may take a little time.

Comment #6Priority, defend. Be hopeful for a lucky shot from distance as the threat.
Depending on how adventurous Jose is, it could be a long afternoon.
They’ll be wanting to repay us for the result at St. James’.

Chelsea looked, well, they looked plain f**king scary vs citeh tbh
The only bit of hope I’m desperately clinging on too is they have made a bit of a habit of dropping points against teams they should easily beat
With Tiote out we’ve lost our only leader on the pitch atm and if he’s really out for a month I can see that 10 point gap we have closing quiet quickly

Comment #17We’ll park the bus mates. We have no choice now. Our starting 11 is decimated. It will be 4-5-1 all the way. Krul better have one of his best games to keep the score down. This is pathetic. Sack Joe (it seems Alan said the board did it) after the window closes! What is the point of that? They knew he was useless last fall.

Comment #20Willie Donachie is suspended for striking Remi Streete. You don’t want to hear that. That’s bad news no matter how you look at it. Ones a guy with a long and successful career in the game, the other many have said has the physical attributes to play at the highest level for Newcastle. Doesn’t look good or augur well.

Comment #22pardew is a fcuk nut
confidence comes from winning ,
he is setting his team up to defend , this we all know, the unknown qty in all this is will LDJ be up front all alone or will shola be there to flick the ball on
JM set his team up to counter against man c, he will set his team up to camp in our half
so I’m guessing that by the end of the weekend our confidence will be shot

Comment #27Hmm as much as i do defend Pardew-
(not on here this is my first post 🙂 )
-say they lose at Chelsea, Spurs, Villa? Then Pards out Laudrup in? It just seems all a bit scripted at the moment with no signings, Cab gone, derby loss, then the “board” decides that the Joke “resigns”?
Super pessimistic forecasting I know- I’ll still have a fiver on us turning up and sprinkling miracles on Saturday and hope none of this happens
Errm love this site keep it up!

Dear GOD, I hope Saylor or Ameobi are nowhere near the first team squad. Saylor that gutless idoit shouting at others in the derby game while his defending is nothing but performance from 5 a side astro-turf game.

I SECOND point number 14…. now that’s what a ‘club’ is all about.
we should all go ‘ASHLEY CLUBBING’
To the beat of Iggy Pop’s ‘Nightclubbing’
Ashley-clubbing we’re Ashley-clubbing
We’re what’s happening
Ashley-clubbing we’re Ashley-clubbing
We’re an ice machine
We see owners brand new owners
They’re something to see
Ashley-clubbing we’re Ashley-clubbing
Black-white clubbing
Oh isn’t it wild ?

Comment #31Yes it’s setting up to be quite a summer. How much will really get done though? Ashley always goes for the minimum. A striker if Remy leaves, a CB if Colo goes and possibly an ACM but only if we get plenty of dosh in. There is no such thing as enough money for Ashley. Obertan should be gone and if we lose Ben Arfa will we replace him properly? I doubt it. How can we strengthen the club with this much having been left undone?

gouffran out cisse out tiote out cabaye gone remy suspended
so the bench is going to be filled with rubbish or very young inexpeinced type as far as attack is concerned.

For me this January window was a huge huge window for us in terms of being proactive for once, looking at the squad and saying in all honesty he’s off in the summer, so is he, so let’s get there replacements in and up to PL pace
We failed massively now we have what is simply a hugely daunting task of practically a whole squad rebuild in the summer
Colo gone, Remy prob gone, HBA gone (confirmed as much by Pardew when talking about contracts) Cisse gone, Shola gone, Marv gone, Gosling gone
Regardless of ability or frequency they will all need replacing on top of the 2-3 players we needed anyway

That is the lineup I would take, we play with wingers who can’t deliver the goods when we are more dangerous through the middle and letting the strikers work the channels
