We’re Building Our Confidence Up – Pardew

7:40 pm, Thursday, February 6th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 336 Comments

Alan Pardew was as upbeat as he could be in his press conference today, but he did say it’s been a tough week in training but the lads have done well on the training ground this week.

alan pardew clsoe-up

Alan Pardew – we’re back to work – building up our confidence

This is some of what Alan had to say today:

“We’re up against a very very good side and we have to make sure we have to defend well but we also have to offer a threat.”

“We’ve worked well on the training ground this week.” “It’s been a disappointing week as you can imagine, but still we’ve worked well this week.”

“We’re back to work and now and building our confidence up.” “It’s now about getting us and our position in the league more secure and my job is the next game, and that’s what I’m focusing on.”

Alan also said that a manager’s job these days is not on the financial side of transfers, and he hasn’t been involved on the financial side of transfers for at least seven years, and that’s probably the way it should be.

English football is now following the continental model,  where the manager is basically the coach and his job is to get best out of the players he has available.

The Director of Football and higher-ups in the club deal with all the transfers into and out of the club.

Newcastle need to get their confidence up and try to win one of their next two games, either at Chelsea (impossible?) or at home to Tottenham, and that would help raise the spirits of the Newcastle fans, who are not too happy at the moment. :(

And we still cannot believe the incompetence shown by the club last week, but I’m sure we’ll get over it – but it may take a little time.

Comments welcome.

their is absolutely no chance we win this weekend.

we are 16-1 with bookies to win.
    even a draw is 4.5-1

  • 6 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:50 PM

Priority, defend. Be hopeful for a lucky shot from distance as the threat.

Depending on how adventurous Jose is, it could be a long afternoon.

They’ll be wanting to repay us for the result at St. James’.

we could get a draw if pards adopts fat shams football from the 19th century tactics ;-)

  • 9 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:52 PM

Can’t the squad just move no:14 up to say no:1?

  • 10 toonking // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:52 PM

team i predict starts this weekend

    _________shola/maybe dejong

  • 11 wolfshead@toon // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:53 PM

re no 14 just get geordie two to drop into ashleys house on his way to see markaccus :-)

  • 12 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:55 PM

Chelsea looked, well, they looked plain f**king scary vs citeh tbh

The only bit of hope I’m desperately clinging on too is they have made a bit of a habit of dropping points against teams they should easily beat

With Tiote out we’ve lost our only leader on the pitch atm and if he’s really out for a month I can see that 10 point gap we have closing quiet quickly

  • 13 John Tudor // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:55 PM

    hit them on the break
they will be having their h/time cuppa

  • 14 TurkishFan101 // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:56 PM

Last few days have been chaotic, what else are win in for the at the weekend?

Cheer up, Cisse finally reveals why Pardew will never be a good manager or even average at best at all.

  • 15 TurkishFan101 // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:56 PM

    win?? we*** damn this keyboard!

  • 16 damma99 // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:57 PM

It will soon be smashed to pieces on saturday you muppet.

  • 17 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:57 PM

We’ll park the bus mates. We have no choice now. Our starting 11 is decimated. It will be 4-5-1 all the way. Krul better have one of his best games to keep the score down. This is pathetic. Sack Joe (it seems Alan said the board did it) after the window closes! What is the point of that? They knew he was useless last fall.

  • 18 toonking // Feb 6, 2014 at 7:57 PM

divert all the water from storms to his shops.

  • 19 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:00 PM

Yes I could drop in on Ashley wolfie mate. Give him the supporters’ perspective with a little help from the intervention tools. Yes that sounds good. I’ll put that on my to do list.

  • 20 jimmysmith // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:01 PM

Willie Donachie is suspended for striking Remi Streete. You don’t want to hear that. That’s bad news no matter how you look at it. Ones a guy with a long and successful career in the game, the other many have said has the physical attributes to play at the highest level for Newcastle. Doesn’t look good or augur well.

  • 21 DokToon // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:01 PM

sorry all, i was building to the crescendo… if id have put #14 as #1… youd have not bothered to read the whole list :)

  • 22 catchy in norway // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:01 PM

    pardew is a fcuk nut

    confidence comes from winning ,

he is setting his team up to defend , this we all know, the unknown qty in all this is will LDJ be up front all alone or will shola be there to flick the ball on

JM set his team up to counter against man c, he will set his team up to camp in our half

so I’m guessing that by the end of the weekend our confidence will be shot

  • 23 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:05 PM

“And we still cannot believe the incompetence shown by the club last week, but I’m sure we’ll get over it – but it may take a little time.”

Last week? Try the last 18 months mate!

  • 24 TurkishFan101 // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:06 PM

18 months?? more like the last 6 years with this fat cockney b@tard in charge!

  • 25 Themesh // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:09 PM

  • 26 catchy in norway // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:09 PM

live the banter on this site , but ED gets a lot wrong , I’m guessing in a week ED is gona start up with the list of players we are linked with in the summer

Ed I wish you would come back to being a fan, and not a journo looking in at us from the outside

  • 27 Wrong side of the Cam Toon Fan // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:11 PM

Hmm as much as i do defend Pardew-
(not on here this is my first post :) )
-say they lose at Chelsea, Spurs, Villa? Then Pards out Laudrup in? It just seems all a bit scripted at the moment with no signings, Cab gone, derby loss, then the “board” decides that the Joke “resigns”?

Super pessimistic forecasting I know- I’ll still have a fiver on us turning up and sprinkling miracles on Saturday and hope none of this happens

Errm love this site keep it up!

  • 28 TurkishFan101 // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:12 PM

Dear GOD, I hope Saylor or Ameobi are nowhere near the first team squad. Saylor that gutless idoit shouting at others in the derby game while his defending is nothing but performance from 5 a side astro-turf game.

  • 29 tequilamag // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:13 PM

Catchy in full pomp again, nothing like a defeat against Sunderland to put a spring in your step again. And you have the cheek to slate Ed for not being a real fan!!
Show me a post Ed has made where he says he wants us to lose like yo did last season.
    Real fan my arse

  • 30 Krul To Be Kind // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:15 PM

    Dok @7

I SECOND point number 14…. now that’s what a ‘club’ is all about.

we should all go ‘ASHLEY CLUBBING’

To the beat of Iggy Pop’s ‘Nightclubbing’

    Ashley-clubbing we’re Ashley-clubbing
    We’re what’s happening
    Ashley-clubbing we’re Ashley-clubbing
    We’re an ice machine
We see owners brand new owners
    They’re something to see
    Ashley-clubbing we’re Ashley-clubbing
    Black-white clubbing
    Oh isn’t it wild ?
    Ashley-clubbing we’re Ashley-clubbing
    We’re walking through toon
    Ashley-clubbing we’re Ashley-clubbing

  • 31 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:16 PM

Yes it’s setting up to be quite a summer. How much will really get done though? Ashley always goes for the minimum. A striker if Remy leaves, a CB if Colo goes and possibly an ACM but only if we get plenty of dosh in. There is no such thing as enough money for Ashley. Obertan should be gone and if we lose Ben Arfa will we replace him properly? I doubt it. How can we strengthen the club with this much having been left undone?

  • 32 Themesh // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:16 PM

Yh i agree, our best CB pairing at any point this season has been yanga and williamson yet taylor is getting ahead of yanga, criminal

  • 33 catchy in norway // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:18 PM

tequila I have no problems with what I said , and I would say it again,

you can make it sound which ever way you want , but you know I would not mind losing a game if it ment bird brain would be sacked

I could put you in the deluded fan section , everything is ok ,

Ed used to write as a fan, now he writes for hits, there is no passion in it anymore from him, but I guess you have not been on here since he first stated

  • 34 croftus5678 // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:19 PM

i say no pressure as we expect to lose and play with the team to see how it works with marv (am) sissoko (dm) and cisse with luuk up front.

  • 35 toonking // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:20 PM

what ever happens shola is certain to get game time because if he doesn’t start then he will get subbed

gouffran out cisse out tiote out cabaye gone remy suspended

so the bench is going to be filled with rubbish or very young inexpeinced type as far as attack is concerned.

  • 36 Krul To Be Kind // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:20 PM

‘to do list’??? Why leave until tomorrow, when it could be done now…

Man-Up or step aside… I’m thinking your losing all your truculent manliness! ;-)

  • 37 toonking // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:21 PM

i do agree with the stupidity of playing saylor over mbiwa mind.

  • 38 tequilamag // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:21 PM

Catchy, you don`t have a problem with wanting us to lose.
If you can`t see the stupidity in that then there is no hope for you. Enjoy your misery.

  • 39 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:23 PM

    Geordie Two
For me this January window was a huge huge window for us in terms of being proactive for once, looking at the squad and saying in all honesty he’s off in the summer, so is he, so let’s get there replacements in and up to PL pace

We failed massively now we have what is simply a hugely daunting task of practically a whole squad rebuild in the summer

Colo gone, Remy prob gone, HBA gone (confirmed as much by Pardew when talking about contracts) Cisse gone, Shola gone, Marv gone, Gosling gone

Regardless of ability or frequency they will all need replacing on top of the 2-3 players we needed anyway

  • 40 Krul To Be Kind // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:24 PM

    Croftus @ 33

That is the lineup I would take, we play with wingers who can’t deliver the goods when we are more dangerous through the middle and letting the strikers work the channels

  • 41 toonking // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:26 PM

what tequila says is true and i don’t even think you have followed this club since the blog started because earlier today you said ashley was here when we bought michel owen when infact his contract had almost ran out.

  • 42 Krul To Be Kind // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:29 PM

    BTW guys

I noticed earlier there was a Mackem poster and he only got slightly ribbed which made me sick into my own mouth a little bit when I seen Mackems getting into mixed squad opinions:-(

I jest… it was a nice touch fellow Toon fans, done the right thing and extremely civil for fierce rivals

  • 43 toonking // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:30 PM

  • 45 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:32 PM

Spot on @38 tads mate. I just can’t see Ashley being able to pull this one off. We are going to be a weaker team going into next season. As for you Krul to be Kind @35, harrumph! My manliness is intact. I stride forward with nostrils flared. Ashley beware my wrath.

I mistook your current guise as a ‘putter-offer’ genuine, I see you may have a cunning plan to rid our evil nemesis.

    I extend my deepest apologisies.

In all honestly lads I’m hurting at whats happening inexplicably at our club… I’m not normally defeatist but I can’t see a way out of this unless the big guy has a helicopter moment ala Matthew Harding (pardon the severity)

  • 49 John Tudor // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:43 PM

i fear its the latter, will he spend in the summer, i don’t think so

  • 50 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:45 PM

I wonder what Benny is worth now with just over a year left on his contract, the lack of playing time, and some inconsistent play when he is on the pitch? I would have to think he’s not worth much but what about the cost of re-signing him? What kind of wage will he want? And is he worth it? Can we get the best out of him or Cisse? I have my doubts. I’m just worried the club has no real plan going forward.

  • 51 Krul To Be Kind // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:46 PM

I can’t see him leaving whilst the club continues to line his pockets… SD is his legacy, NUFC is his advertising vehicle and his pocket money unfortunately

  • 52 John Tudor // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:48 PM

well all the outs expected very few ins whats your guess at position next season

  • 54 John Tudor // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:51 PM

  • 55 Markaccus // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:52 PM

It depends on what type of monumental f#ck up the fat man manages to do. Somwhere between 11th and 15th.

  • 56 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:52 PM

Krul @47 apology accepted mate. Harrumph. My plans are always cunning. In fact I have plans within plans. There, now you’re abreast (God I love that word) of the situation.

  • 59 Krul To Be Kind // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:54 PM

You would think we were just beat by Sunderland AGAIN or something…

I’m off hopefully Chelsea can bring everyone together again and keep us looking up… after all it’s the black and white we follow not the boardroom

  • 60 Belfast // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:54 PM

Well squad overhaul and Mike Ashley do not belong in the same sentence. Squad overhaul to me, means an influx of new players, and spending some dosh.

I fear our squad next season will probably end up a lot weaker than this season.

  • 61 GeordieTwo // Feb 6, 2014 at 8:55 PM

  • 65 Black and White with an army lol // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:02 PM

we are simply going to get destroyed by Chelsea on the weekend.

1 – we have no strikers
2 – we have only 3 remaining midfielder’s with Tiote out injured.
3 – Pardew is the manager
4 – Taylor once again will start ahead of MYM

get ready guys because i think this will be the most massive result going against us even bigger than last seasons Liverpool result

  • 66 Transfer Sage // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:02 PM

    tads – if still around

The articles you posted on the last page are perfect examples of why people want ashley out.

Nobody is expecting big money signings, we’d like them but we are fairly realistic, we want to see the club have passion and a connection with the fans again.

Constant lies, silence on big issues, nobody allowed to speak out, ‘souless tours’ as the fan said….it’s just a the atmosphere that Ashley creates.

Everything is done on a budget, thats fine for a lot, but sometimes you need to do that little extra every now and then to lift everyone.

  • 67 Shot Bru // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:03 PM

  • 83 Transfer Sage // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:17 PM

saylor has dropped off a lot the last couple seasons i think…i’d rather play mbiwa, he looked good with willo.

it’s just shame it’s come to this, i’m not delighted with us now running a paper thin squad but i can accept that, i could even accept a lot of the crap we get if somebody came out and gave a decent explanation for why something was happening

  • 84 tequilamag // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:24 PM

Markaccus, it is a miseryfest on here at the moment.
We probably will get beat atChelsea even if we had Cabaye and a full squad to play with. It proves nothing, Chelsea will beat most teams. But mostl thought we would get beat when we had them at home so why write your chances off before a ball has even been kicked.

  • 85 Transfer Sage // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:27 PM

i said earlier, even if we had cabaye, signed cabella and grenier we’d still struggle to a team that just beat man city at home for first time in 3 years.

i think it’s a game to right off almost, anything is a bonus, the bigger test will be can pardew motivate himself and the team to fight against all the team at the bottom we soon play who are desperate for points when we have little to play for,

  • 86 Ciaran // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:30 PM

You’re right, we should be positive, if anything we’re in a much better position playing Chelsea this time than we were last time.

We’ve got 20 million extra in the bank this time! Hooray!

  • 87 Himanshu Dhingra // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:32 PM

An article I wrote on pardew.

  • 88 tequilamag // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:33 PM

TS, no offence but I always find it weird that people think professional players need motivating. The majority of people in the world are doing crap jobs often poorly paid but still manage to drag themselves out of bed because they have to. Contrast that with vastly wealthy players who get to do what they have always loved doing from childhood and in a sport they excel at..

  • 89 tequilamag // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:35 PM

Ciaran, the money in the bank is irrelevant. You have set your stall out to criticise virtually everything about the club including the supporters who attend games.
Spare me your weak attempt at sarcasm

  • 90 sparky55 // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:38 PM

With tiote out it gives Pardew a rare opportunity to play some players in their proper positions for once.

Sissoko defensive midfielder alongside Anita, HBA on the right wing, Marveaux on the left wing, and Gouffy in just behind De jong.

Drop Santon…simply out of form at the minute, play williamson along side Mbiwa, Debuchy right back and Dummet left back

  • 91 Transfer Sage // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:39 PM

i find it odd myself, but it’s like anything i guess, you need to be motivated to perform well. Self motivation is easier for some than others, guess the same goes for sportsmen (although i guess a higher % can self motivate than your average guy).

It must be true though or else there wouldn’t be so much talk of it, there wouldn’t be sports psychologists, etc etc

I think the players took a big hit when they hear we sell our best man and for whatever reason (genuine or not) didn’t get a replacement in. They will naturally think we are safe in top 9, would need to win near enough every game to push top 6 so natural they could subconsciously ease off.

  • 92 Transfer Sage // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:41 PM

and also with you everyday person, i know from experience with myself and colleagues you can sometimes just do the minimum to get by if you think you have no chance of progression in a company.

in football terms that might be ok sometimes, but when up against teams fighting tooth and nail for something it might make you task impossible

  • 93 Transfer Sage // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:42 PM

i posted the same team you have done, except i had gouffy left and marv behind the forward

  • 94 Ciaran // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:45 PM

I don’t criticise people who go to games at all. Also, my sarcasm was pretty spot on. I think what you mean to say is that did not find it humorous – therein lies the difference.

  • 95 stuart no9 // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:45 PM

my guess is – if pards decides to park up, i’m afraid he will get everything he deserves. You cant go to places like Chelsea- defend – and hope to come away with anything . We still have 11 pro footballers who. should be able to play anybody in this league without fear of a damm good tonking. At this level, there is of course a difference in technical ability but are they REALLY that much better than some of the players we have ?? I don’t think so. Put Anita in their team , he would be brilliant , put tiote ,santon debuchy benny In that Chelsea team they would be great players in a great side. put hazard in black and white shirt, would he be as good? doubt it- would Oscar , would cahill, ramires, ivanovic ? don’t think so. iMO its not the players we have, its the way we will be set up to play. The Managers win and lose football matches , it will be jose v pards, yeah we all know who the winner will be , no prizes for that , cos you are only as good as the manager you have and that goes for any footballer in the world. If that is the way pards is going to set his stall out , then expect another SPURS type game where we defended for our lives and got a 1-0 win , but this time don’t expect another Krul masterclass in goalkeeping, those games are very few and far between, We need to come out and give them a game of football. We have the players , sadly however we havnt got the manager. 4-0

  • 96 Harley // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:48 PM

Not the team I think will start but the one I’d play (not that I know anything).

    Deb, willo, mbiwa, Haidara

    Sissokho, Anita

    Santon, HBA, sammy

    De Jong

Bench – Elliot, dummet , Taylor, bigi, marveaux, obertan, shola.

I’d play sammy and santon over marveaux as I think they’ll work more for the team. Mbiwa over Taylor as Taylor has looked very shaky lately and de Jong over shola, well I don’t feel the need to explain that one.

  • 97 Transfer Sage // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:48 PM

i think that’s harsh, i don’t think many match chelsea in terms of manager or talent on the pitch.

I’d say we should go there and park the bus but try and offer some counter attacking threat, we can’t just go head on or they will play us off the park.

We need to get the balance between being a threat and being tight at the back, not an easy task for anyone.

  • 98 Ciaran // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:51 PM

In all honesty, our lads would have to bust a gut against Chelsea, AND Chelsea have an absolute stinker for us to come away with anything less than a spanking on Saturday.

Tiote out for a month, as well as the fact that without Colo, and with Santon at LB we are very VERY likely to concede at least once – do we have the firepower to score if/when we concede? I don’t think so.

Best to write this game off and look to the next one – Spurs at home.

Also, none of this really matters. Our season is over.

  • 99 tequilamag // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:54 PM

TS, I think the best managers lead by example, Mourinho has huge self-confidence which rubs off on the players and SBR was great at making players believe they were perhaps better than they actually were but really it has to come from within.
Ciaran you think everything you write is golddust . The majority of people think your a pompous windbag.

  • 100 Ciaran // Feb 6, 2014 at 9:56 PM

transfer – the point I am trying to make is – give mourino 4 weeks as Newcastle manager , now put pards in charge of that Chelsea side , hypothetical I know , but my point is , after 4 weeks let the 2 teams play each other. ok , how many victories would mourino get with Newcastle and how many would pards get with Chelsea ???? my bet is , we wouldn’t be worried about playing Chelsea like we are now that’s for sure . WITH the same players.

  • 103 tequilamag // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:02 PM

Ciaran, the only person on this blog you never fell out with was Ibiza who rarely has a bad word to say about anyone.
I have lost count of the times you have flounced off in a huff and said you were done with the blog. If more people agreed with you, your own blog would be full of people clapping you on the back, the reality is if you get double figure posts it is only because you are arguing with someone. So yes I am fairly sure most would agree that you are indeed a pompous windbag.

    Stuart, good post for #94

I believe that as well, that if a number our players were in their side, they wouldn’t look out of place at all and their value and reputation would increase considerably.

  • 106 jimmysmith // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:04 PM

Couldn’t Mbiwa deputise forTiote at Chelsea, and Sissoko playing as the attacking mid supporting Shola, and later De Jong. Benny, I suppose one side and……good grief, were actually in real trouble aren’t we.

  • 107 Ciaran // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:07 PM

You’re talking about most people in general? Ridiculous.

I have not fallen out with a great number of people on this blog, and my opinionated style of writing is more susceptible to criticism than it is to praise, but alas you fail to recognise context.

I make my points in an assertive fashion, and yes I do stand by my opinions. If your response to that is to hurl insults than you have already lost the debate and ceased engaging in an adult discussion.

How about conduct a poll and see how many people think I am a “pompous windbag” and then show me the empirical evidence before you go about claiming to represent the majority.

If you do not wish to/are incapable of doing that then I think you should reduce the grand opinions you make sweepingly, to your own piddling little opinion.

  • 108 stuart no9 // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:10 PM

Ciaran, you are the least self-aware person I have come across. You genuinely don`t think yo have fallen out with a great number of people on the blog ? You live for your petty little feuds.
Can I also point out you chose to throw out your sarcastic post to me in response to a post I had made which was nothing to do with you.. As usual you love to throw it out but cry foul when you have it given back to you..

  • 112 noladonna // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:17 PM

tell you what scares me it’s that santon is taking set-pieces for 60 mins before he gets subbed, am i missing something?! pardew just leaves me speechless sometimes honestly our club makes NO SENSE ANY MORE

so pissed off was hoping for a big summer(as always) but with no dof being appointed till end of the season add to that its a world cup year don’t leave much time to line up some deals

  • 113 Ciaran // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:17 PM

How am I crying foul? And how is one small sarcastic comment deemed an insult/criticism? Sensitive are we?

I am merely stating that your claims to represent the majority of people’s opinions of me is an untruth and as such you shouldn’t make claims that you cannot support with evidence.

I could name many posters on this blog whom I have never fallen out with, all of whom could corroborate that. I don’t “live” for petty disputes on an internet forum, what sort of sad, pathetic, unfulfilled life would one have to lead for them to “live” for that.

I engage in disputes with people I disagree with. 1 side poses their side of the argument, the other side poses their side of the argument until we eventually decide that I was right all along. Simple.

  • 114 jimmysmith // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:21 PM

I like Sammy. I have a hope and an affection for him as well as recognizing he has a quite unique skill set, and so of course want him to do well, but he appeared to be almost non existent in the derby. Like driving on with a flat tyre for lack of a spare. All of a sudden our wide options outside of Sissoko, Gouffran, and Remy seem boys playing a mans game. Worrisome.

  • 115 tequilamag // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:21 PM

In unrelated news, just pulled this from the Mike Ashley Out Facebook page,

“Attention fellow Maoists; it is time to turn a pressure group into a movement.

We will have a presence at SJP before Spurs and are looking for committed volunteers to get involved in peaceful and legal activism in forthcoming ‘events’, send a private message at or e-mail

We are especially interested in volunteers who still attend home games”

Will be interesting to see what they have planned.

I’m sure they will have some use for me.

Also, interesting grammatical mistake you made there. I know a number of people make the exact same one, and they usually come from accounts of people whom don’t like me.

Just an observation, not an accusation of course.

  • 124 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:33 PM

I’ve read a lot of views from posters on here who don’t like Santon.

I like him. I think he is comfortable on the ball, has good pace and has a valuable asset is that he can glide past people, albeit outside then cutting in.

He’s had a number of very good games in his time with us, although he has been caught out of position a lot, but that has a lot to do with a lack of cover for him by our defensive midfielders as well. Coaching, Alan.

He has got skills which can be used in an effective team and more specifically, in an attacking team. Although he needs to work on his crossing quite a bit more.

He is still only fairly young though, so has a lot more developing to go.

He also has a Champions League medal, which is more than the rest of the team.

Again, I like him and that hasn’t wavered, even amongst poor form here and there. I’m sure he could be a valuable asset in a more positive way of playing.

  • 125 tequilamag // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:35 PM

If your going to get all grammar Nazi you may want to throw a question mark on the end of that sentence

  • 131 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:49 PM

Ronjohno, he’s brainwashing fans again, who maybe haven’t watched all the games. Plus, against his usual career struggle, it’s going a bit better than usual for him.

The players are covering for his own ability cracks through individual skill.

We’ve kept the ball on the floor more this year, but that has been due to a tremendous amount of pressure on him to do so or to take a further battering.

Attempting to keep the ball on the floor doesn’t mean that he’s cracked attractive football though.

We play better football when Anita has been in and I was wanting him and Gouffran in last year instead of the very poor Jonas and Tiote. They have been in this year through injuries to others initially.

In my opinion we’ve played well in patches or 45 minutes at best, in the first and second thirds, which is bound to happen if we have that many players back containing.

Final third teamwork still is clueless, even in those ‘better’ performances on the whole, in my opinion. Hence the shooting from range pot shots which we take, because Pardew is unable to come up with drills in and around the box and generally in the business end of the pitch. Even the passing and moving could be far better.

It’s also why Cisse hardly gets any service, and without his solo goals, Remy recently went on his longest goal drought in football I think a commentator described it.

Pardew’s underwhelming talent for lowering expectation means that his targets look somewhat achievable.

  • 132 sparky55 // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:49 PM

Transfer…my apologies…you’re right…I didn’t read all the way through the thread so sorry bout that!

…but interesting you also think he’s playing half the team out of position.

really don’t understand why Pardew decided to Play Sissoko in a position he’d very rarely played before…he played most his life in France as a defensive midfielder…he comes here and all of a sudden he’s YAYA box to box…then all of sudden he’s a right winger WTF.

With Cabaye gone and Tiote going, why doesn’t he just play Sissoko as a defensive midfielder for the rest of the season alongside Tiote with Anita providing the flair, then once Tiote has gone and Cabaye replaced, Anita and Sissoko play together as the rear guard defensive midfielder.

  • 133 Ciaran // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:51 PM

  • 138 Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 11:00 PM

Sparky, as you know, Sissoko is wasted on the right as he can’t cross the ball like a natural winger.

He’s in for his ability to track back with a possibility of what might come off going forward. Clueless hope. I’d prefer to see a proper winger or inside forward in there, with Sissoko in centre midfield.

Then you get Sissoko making his transporting runs with the ball forward now and then, but laying it off to the real flair players to provide a final product into the box and/or shoot. Rather than him generally fizzling out the attack due to lack of crossing ability.

I like Sissoko, but not in the way the Prince of footballing darkness plays him.

Isnt this weekend the perfect time to part ways with Alan? We’re not going to win or lose anything now this season, so after Pards has been handed his ass on a pizza by the Special One, perhaps Mike could give him a p45 to go with it, Get a new manager in and he’s got a nice spring and summer to do something less daft with our squad.

The way I see it, all is not well in the state of NUFC when frustration rears up in the form of an experienced pro (good defender was Willie in his day athough I do seem to remember one howler in a home internatonal once, someone will probably refresh my ageing brain) coach takes to bashing his charges for their continued lack of diligence. I sense that our extended squad can see neither rhyme nor reason in Alan P’s selections, tactics and oddball favouritism.

The longer we keep Pardew, the more pissed off the players will be and let’s face it…the first team 11 are under no threat from the bench whatsoever so no-one is going to be busting a gut as we’re safe and the players know that.

If a new manager comes in now we really could push on…but with Pardew everything will simply stagnate

  • 169 Ibizatoon // Feb 6, 2014 at 11:19 PM

Belfast…Thanks for the heads up, not that it’s of any interest to me…

Chelsea are hitting their stride, Jose rarely loses at Stamford Bridge, toon are without Remy, Tiote, Gouffy

I believe in Santa Claus but a toon win at Chelsea this weekend is a step to far

  • 173 Ibizatoon // Feb 6, 2014 at 11:24 PM

p…Are you saying I am wrong? You’re not a fan of this club…you’re simply a letter from the alphabet!

If I say we have a chance, then we have a chance and you shall believe!

Oh well, I suppose we somewhat discussed football there!

Joking aside, I hear you, but never ever say never (Except when using it that way…of course).

Do I expect a win? Not really, no. But hey, it’s not going to hurt me to get smashed Saturday morning and see what happens. Well, maybe it’ll hurt a little.

  • 174 Belfast // Feb 6, 2014 at 11:25 PM

Your lack of perception is astounding. I was employing what is called a paradox.

Jeez, loses its humour when it has to be explained.

  • 176 Ibizatoon // Feb 6, 2014 at 11:28 PM

Can I ask why people are all of a sudden half expecting Pardew to be fired and perhaps more interestingly, replaced with someone better?

Just hope or is their a thought process behind it?

I love a good conspiracy theory just for the interest of how others perceive things mostly.
Read this blog for the last couple years mainly looking for clues as to what Ashley could have planned. I’ve loved reading most peoples posts positive or negative as there was always good points..

Now if there’s any fellow conspiracy theorists or even people who like puzzles is there anyone who has any idea what’s going on?

Was Ashley mis quoted and club policy should be “the 5minute plan”

Because to me that’s what it looks like from the outside but I just can’t believe someone like Ashley could make all these mistakes by accident.

So if anyone can put all the pieces together and make me have a bit more hope it would be much appreciated.

There are a few who seem to fly off into jealous rage at anyone professing to know some inside info .. that jealousy thing is frightning to witness in some ..its a bad disease to have ..I can’t understand it, It has always puzzled me ..Im amazed at the way some ITK folk are attacked .

  • 217 lesh // Feb 7, 2014 at 12:05 AM

    catchy in norway @22…….

I don’t see how you’ve concluded that Pardew’s setting the team up to lose.

Unless you’ve been present at training or know an ITK, you must’ve based your statement on Pardew’s press conference – as reported (unless you were there and had a private word with him).

If your view’s based on extracts from the press conference, have you ever thought who he was addressing and for whose consumption his comments are meant for.
The players? Hardly. The public? And indirectly, Mourinho perhaps, trying to beat him at mind games?
Fat chance of that though, Mouinho’s a master at them.

What’s said at training and what’s said in public are generally different.

he’s told ya he doesn’t wanna say owt to ya so move on and btw how is pointing out that you said for no reason at all wat race your relation is? how does that “upset” you?

anyways back to todays points who is it nowadays that excepts these resignations?
there can’t be anyone left can there!?

    and laurent on santon …
    …..Laurent Robert 32 // Feb 6, 2014 at 10:33 PM

I’ve read a lot of views from posters on here who don’t like Santon.

I like him. I think he is comfortable on the ball, has good pace and has a valuable asset is that he can glide past people, albeit outside then cutting in.

“He’s had a number of very good games in his time with us, although he has been caught out of position a lot, but that has a lot to do with a lack of cover for him by our defensive midfielders as well. Coaching, Alan”

isn’t it strange he’s looked alot worse without guti involved?

my beef with him this season is not just the getting caught out but the fact he doesn’t bust a gut to get back in position

now my player of the last year has been goof and he does work hard and get back but also does very good things going forward where as guti (when santon was showing very good form) always covered him

for me he needs to learn a hell of alot from debuchy!

and someone said before that players are played out of position

well sisko plays wide right quite alot for france and the stats say he’s doing very very well there
infact can you point out a great tackle the guy has made since he’s been here? i cant remember one

and arfa on the right is always a danger and tbf always has been take a look at gary nevilles comments recently (and thats to you jesper aswell ;) )

now who do we play on the left?
goof who has done well there but again not his right position so why is he there??
or marv oh that player that decides when he wants to be in the game or when he can be bothered and if thats out wide then its been extremely far and few between!
so who else is there for these wide positions
sammi? great on his day but gets slauted after 1 bad touch!

as i have said for years now how is this our best squad “ever”
when we don’t even have 1 proper winger at the club
and when “our” striker is suspended we have shola or another striker who played against sunderland pretty much more than he has all season who isn’t ours either!!

and now the injuries are starting to hit we are actually showing how woefully short this “best squad ever” really is

but hey lets blame pardew for everything much much easier

Ibiza I’m a big lass, put on a couple pounds since that picture was taken so im.a lot closer to everyone now ;(

Joke in here the first time was bad enough the second coming was was was I don’t really know what to say except if there’s a third coming maybe he’ll be lucky ;(

Im from the toon used to be in forces and moved back, really used to love the match win lose or draw but last three years have been a chore to be honest. Don’t get the same feeling going to my church (SJP) anymore :( still love them watch tv but only been to three matches this year. I gave my ticket up when we finished fith I’m lucky as my brother in law works offshore so I can go when ever but a lot of the time I can’t bring myself to go as no one talks about football anymore it’s what ever Ashley’s do e to screw us over that week…

It’s a really strange feeling going into SJP I’ve went since 84 one way or another seen good bad and a lot of change but it feels alien to me now. The club will always be there I just hope he leaves or has a massive change on how he runs club otherwise I’ll be watching from a pub.

  • 244 Rebbeca from 7 miles away // Feb 7, 2014 at 12:55 AM

Manx that’s my biggest problem with Santon, we don’t play Benny because he doesn’t track back but we have a left back who’s a defender that doesn’t track back, he ambles like he’s on a cat walk boils my sis..

  • 245 Ibizatoon // Feb 7, 2014 at 12:58 AM

Rebecca…You may or may not know, that I was a “supporter” of the Ashley model for a fair while.

I gave up trying to understand his intentions basically because it became an irrelevant point for me.

Whatever his intentions, his actions (mainly without explanation) have all but completely destroyed this once fanatical fan base. It’s disgusting.

I completely agree with you about how he’s changed how we perceive and discuss the club, it’s rarely actually about football these days.

However, he has and continues to spur people in to action and my biggest hope is that as fans, we can find a way to help sort this problem out. It’s certainly not going to be done by whinging on a blog…but you have to start somewhere.

    Expat…Wriggle or struggle? :) Enjoy!

Manx…Did you see the length of that post? You can see why people opt to simply blame Pardew…saves a lot of typing!

The truth usually lies somewhere in the middle, Pardew is not as bad as many make out, however, he certainly has his faults and a better manager could do better. But there is no getting away from the fact he has had a fair few obstacles to deal with along the way – but I guess that’s management for ya!

  • 250 Rebbeca from 7 miles away // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:07 AM

Like you i championed the model but it’s a bit like communism looks great on paper.

But for me I believe it’s always been about the free advertising people say we get the most coverage out the top four, I reckon we could give them a run for their money to. I really think the only way he’ll leave is if the press round the club is so bad share holders at SD don’t want to be associated with the club. The downside there is what sort of shape will he leave the club in.

I said yesterday and have thought for a year now everything Ashley’s done has been planned! None of it mistakes is it coincidence every time it looks rosy he throws a spanner in the works and were on TV again?

Manxpie I see your back I been waiting for you, read this

When you and I were having a natter and I was laughing about you being an International footballer with the Isle of man youth team it was only in jest, you know?

Last night joined in with a bit of slagging came over as the type that hides behind others and needs a gang with him before he utters any shite towards anyone he’s scared of .. now I’m willing to have a laugh over It and give you a second chance ..but this is your only chance with me so watch your mouth and no more cheek . The sheep dipper comment was only in jest you know but last night you repeated it as though it wasn’t a joke at the time .I thought we were on good terms ?

No hard feelings , malice or grudges towards you ..

Would you like some vaseline ? Free Gratis

haha ibiza i honestly typed me last post before i seen yours
i was shocked by the length of it meself (insert actress, bishop, the,to,said!! in order)

i agree its in the middle but the constant “mood” on here is to blame the manager for not using the options he doesn’t even have!
it really annoys me we haven’t had an out n out LW since duff ffs need i say more?
but we’ve got a teams worth of cm’s!
    and he gets the blame
we buy arfa as a RW but he doesn’t assist enough or score enough but also leaves us wide open because he doesn’t track back (babysit jesper)

our attacking options are shocking anyways without injuries!

so all in all the squad needs massive investment that ashley hasen’t seen for feckon 2 windows!

  • 253 Rebbeca from 7 miles away // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:16 AM

Ibiza don’t want you to get too excited but I have two sisters..

Manx I’d also put Remy on left now we have de Jon, Santon wouldn’t get anywhere near the team.

Online…. I’ve read for a while now and I also liked Torqs posts even without the tit bits he was always upbeat and had a reasonable head. Which some don’t. I’d put my vote in for Torq back..

    What happened to Beattie?

  • 254 Ibizatoon // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:16 AM

Rebecca…I struggle to buy in to this poor old naive Mike doesn’t understand football stuff. The guy has a lot of money involved and if he was naive at first, you can bet by now he’s up to speed and has a plan.

What we have seen from him so far is panic at being too close to relegation and then a complete lack of interest at keeping up with European places, so I think it is fair to assume he is happiest when we’re mid-table. It suits his agenda, whatever that may be beyond not having to spend anymore of his money.

All any fan can do is ask themselves are they prepared for things to get worse before they get better or are they happy enough with things as they are?

One thing I’m fairly sure about is that if he isn’t given a reason to sell up, why would he? Football riches are just about to get real interesting…something that couldn’t have factored in his decision making when he first arrived (could have speculated I guess, but this is some deal from SKY).

He is a stubborn character though, so any successful plan should try and incorporate a way for him to save face…if that’s at all possible.

I really have given up on the idea of him changing his ways. The amount of times I’ve read this week that the club will be making no further comment has further backed that up.

  • 257 ONLINE GUY // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:25 AM

    Manxpie are you thick

I think his comment that I was Xenophobic was below the belt why ?

Because it means intense dislike of foreigners

so I mentioned my family had mixed race member’s… can you see why I mentioned my family now ?

It was below the belt and if you cannot see that then you are f**king thick

and just because that person says he does not want to talk about it does not mean I should not ask him for a retraction of what he called me

And you repeating it for him shows you are just full of other peoples opinions with your silly F**ing PLATITUDES. Who’s arse are you going to lick next ..?

  • 258 Ibizatoon // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:27 AM

Manx… Yeah yeah, of course you did! :)

We are woefully short of an actual winger, agreed.

I’ve gotten so bored of the Pardew argument, I barely even bother anymore. There is no right or wrong, just opinions. The guy is average, simple as (yeah, I’m saying that even after saying it was all just opinions :) ).

Anytime I question Pardew, I go straight to Ashley though. Maybe I have it backward, but it just seems completely pointless to drive yourself insane about replacing Pardew as from what I can gather, he’s doing a top job as far as his boss is concerned.

  • 259 manxpie // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:28 AM

ibiza and rebbeca i was also on the side that ashley was doing very good things and building up to great things but the last 2 windows certainly broke the camels back with me

and now i want him gone i acknowledge the good things he’s done and hope he takes the last 2 seasons profits and sells up with the club in a better financial position its in but at the same time he’s pissed off pretty much every fan atleast once which takes some doing!!!

and btw for a highly successful businessman who must have to delegate a hell of alot of work he’s done sum utter utter shite delegation at this club my god!!!!!!!

  • 260 Rebbeca from 7 miles away // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:30 AM

The no further comment line is like spitting on the fans.

Mis table is best we’ll get for two reasons.
1, The club thinks the Europa league isn’t worth the effort and out lay of cash to warrant being involved.
2, There’s no point pushing for CL because there’s no advertising allowed for SD.

Your right about the fans need to decide enoughs enough I kinda though Cabaye saying he knew he was leaving the nightmare last sat would unite more fans but it doesn’t seem to have.
I can’t see him being bothered by the loss of season tickets the tv money will easily compensate.

Online…I still haven’t seen the original posts, but I think I somewhat remember them and have to say I think a lot on here gets blown completely out of proportion.

I also find that when you’re debating an issue with more than one person, we sometimes lose track of what points we’re making.

Tads more than likely had already been having that debate with someone, then you came in with the too many foreigners in the league comment, which he took as you being Xenophobic, instead of calmly dealing with it, you’ve been the big girl that you are and gone in to one….I hope you get that parts of this are seriously tongue in cheek…and no Manx, that’s no invite to lick my arse next!

  • 263 Rebbeca from 7 miles away // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:34 AM

I’ve never liked Pardew at all, I just hate his style and he only has one tactic. But as Ibiza says he’s doing a top job for his gaffer.

  • 264 Ibizatoon // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:35 AM

Rebecca…Is that second part true? Haven’t heard anything about advertising being any different for CL…do you have any more info? Very interesting…..

….obviously not as interesting as Online and Manx’s “I know you are, but what am I” discussion.

  • 265 Rebbeca from 7 miles away // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:38 AM

It’s been a pleasure chaps but I need to make a shilling to pay for gin and me bed..

Just imagine if the next line out of the club is

“Mike Ashley has sold the club, no further comment”

Exciting or nerve racking? I’ll sleep on it…

  • 266 p // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:38 AM

Just heard something interesting on the guardian podcast…

A financual journalist had written somewhere that ashley has this kind of chaos theory in business where he does not want anyone in his organisation to feel safe and jfk was all part of that.

That is, he thought pards was getting a bit too comfortable and complacent.

That would certainly be one way to explain the madness that was jfk’s tenure at the club. Pards was obviously too politically astute for it all.

  • 267 ONLINE GUY // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:39 AM

you need to do your home work .Go back and read my question to Toonarmydownsouth ..he knows my nephew played for Chelsea and became an international and played in the world cup, .and is now aware he is mixed race .

He called me Xenophobic because I repeated what Glenn Hoddle said ..the England team was suffering because of the percentage of overseas players in the prem ..

And Toonarmydoonsouth called me Xenophobic and .. it actually means an intense hatred of Foreigners ! Check it out ..Oxford English dictionary ..I already knew what it meant when he said it and it hurt me ..

I just want him to retract it. it was below the belt

And Manxpie you best not get any more involved than you already are.

i see your stance on the pardew debate no doubt ibiza and i’m at the same stage but i feel this blog certainly needs an injection of reality sometimes especially when the scadinavians are on :)

  • 270 lesh // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:43 AM

It’s late and I’ve been skimming comments and what’s noticeable is your name.

Apart from the fact that it’s a highlighted link, it’s there again and again and again.

Why is it there so often? After all, it’s not as though your posts add anything constructive or remotely numerous to the blog You’re quite simply being provocative and irritating. People do try to discuss points with you but no, that’s not enough; you seem to want to provoke and antagonise folk.

In fact you remind me of a mosquito and I whilst I believe that everything on this earth’s got a purpose, I can’t see the point of such an irritating parasite. Neither can I see the point of mosquitos.

Ciaran, give it a rest and stop being a pain in the arse and grow up while you’ve got the chance.

Rebecca…The pleasure has been all mine, but if you’re willing to make the 7 mile trip, it could be yours.

    Until next time x

P.S. Never sleep on an Ashley thought…

p…I’ve seen something similar mentioned before, basically JK was there to make Pardew shape up or ship out. May well have been a factor, but it once again proves to me that Ashley shouldn’t own a football club. He should know what he wants and do it. If he doesn’t feel Pardew is right for the job, then fire him and hire the right person. Enough of the charades and second guessing…no one is coming out a winner..except maybe financially…hmmm…I’m back to square one again – he knows exactly what he’s doing.

oh and online btw its boring as fusk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 279 Ibizatoon // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:54 AM

Online…Sorry, I perhaps wrongly assumed that using Hoddles “high percent of foreigners in the league” to mean too many foreigners.

Ties in with what I was saying about misunderstandings online. We can all chose to react too easily to what someone says on here, when usually something has been lost in translation. Not always, but a fair old whack of the time.

I find it all a bit odd as you’re arguing with people I’ve been chatting with for years now and would never think of them as you portray them. For sure there are some right oddballs on here, but most are fairly decent with what appear good intentions.

Anyway, I’m boring myself now and that takes a lot :)

  • 280 p // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:54 AM

Yes i agree ibiza, sometimes people assume because someone is rich they are astute etc.

I believe some people have a talent (and some good fortune, perhaps some courage) to make oney in one specific way.

Mash seems to be one of those kind of guys though i can not say for sure.

I wonder how much attention newcastle gets from him but he really neeeds to appoint a professional – not a drinking buddy, not some local hero – to come in and run the couple professionally. no doubt it has been run worse but at the same time it could be ru a million times better.

I wonder if he has figured that out yet and is going to get it done?

  • 281 Ibizatoon // Feb 7, 2014 at 1:56 AM

p….The longer he goes without figuring it out, the more I tend to think he has it figured out and it’s going almost perfectly to plan.

Some think that is mad from a business perspective, however, for me it is more than plausible albeit cynical.

The blog has been very abrasive recently

  • 326 Schwefelberg // Feb 7, 2014 at 4:27 AM

Another strange development with Donachie. If there had been a beating at the training Ground why were the Police not called?

  • 327 p // Feb 7, 2014 at 5:58 AM

The police should have been called out to that place a long time ago

just been told what happened to get willie suspended

I am totally discussed , willie said to street , I need you to be like Williamson, we will punt long balls up to you from free kicks , close your eyes and get a head on it,

street answered back , I want to be more like terry or vidic , I want to attack the ball and score goals ,

willie then lost it on the boy

    so sad

Just going back to a comment made through the night regarding Champions League and advertising, can’t remember who by, maybe Rebecca.

The poster was spot on with the point that even if NUFC made the Champions league, it would provide no further exposure for Sports Direct as UEFA uses their own physical advertising boards with their own Champions league sponsors. All non UEFA affiliated sponsors must be hidden/removed during the game.

The only way for Ashley to get round it would be for Sports Direct to agree a shirt sponsorship deal with NUFC for European competition. So taking that into account, it makes even less sense to spend fortunes to push us into the Champs league. It also completely destroys the theory he would buy Rangers to use their potential Champions league presence to market his tat.

Wherd you get the info on that discussion…

  • 332 Lilongwe Geordie // Feb 7, 2014 at 6:40 AM

If anyone is the same as me, and likes to check those things FIFA have a downloadable rules and regulations for the Champions league stating that they own all commercial rights to Champions league, and clubs must provide an advertising free stadium.

“In particular the home club must provide a “clean stadium” by at least the morning of two days before a match, meaning that no advertising except that officially authorised by UEFA may be located within the exclusive area.
UEFA, or a third party acting on its behalf, will provide the advertising boards (at least 90cm high) and be responsible for their installation and dismantling within two days of the match. The club is responsible for ensuring that the advertising boards are within the unimpaired range of view of the main camera.”

Ashley has nothing to say, cause the stuff he will say (like your point on CL footie) will get the fans more angry.

Its in his best interests not to speak. And let the fans conjure up hope

  • 334 Lilongwe Geordie // Feb 7, 2014 at 6:41 AM

I guess that is tongue in cheek. Most sources have it as a dressing room scuffle at half time because of Streete’s tackle conceding a penalty against the mackems.

I wonder whether Pards or Carver gave Anita a shoeing as well?

  • 335 Lilongwe Geordie // Feb 7, 2014 at 6:44 AM

I don’t know what would happen if Ashley came out and spoke. I think feelings would be somewhere between anger, disillusionment, or despondency, with it most likely confirming what many fans already feel.

Or, alternatively it may leave us in wondrous admiration as he has a grand master plan after all, but we just can’t see it.

    UEFA, obviously, not FIFA
