In his press conference yesterday, Alan Pardew did talk about what Newcastle have done in the transfer market since he has been in charge at Newcastle for just over three years now.
Alan Pardew – we’ve done absolutely terrific
Alan was talking about what he needs to do as he is essentially the coach at Newcastle these days, rather than have the duties of former managers in England, and he had this to say when mentioning how the club had done in the transfer market:
“When you look at our record (in the transfer market) you have to say it’s terrific, absolutely terrific what we’ve spent, and when you look at what the other clubs in this division and what they’ve spent, we have done very very well and will continue to do so.”
The truth is Newcastle have done well with some of the players they have brought in for the money spent – and most of that is due to Chief Scout Graham Carr.
But the transfers in of players like Cheick Tiote (£3.5M), Yohan Cabaye (£4.2M), Demba Ba (free), Sylvain Marveaux (free), and Davide Santon (£5M) have all been good buys, and we’ve made around £23M in profit on the sale of Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye in the last two January transfer windows.
But there’s the trouble at Newcastle under Mike Ashley, because with so little ambition the club, our top players will always want to leave, and it’s been true with Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye, and will be true of Loic Remy this summer.
And the other thing – as we again proved last week – is that Ashley refuses to pay even one or two million over the odds to get a good player into the club, and that has cost Newcastle some good players in the last few years, and it also was responsible last week for Yohan Cabaye not being replaced.
That’s the really sad part for the fans of Newcastle United these days.

I’m of to walk the dog past the training ground, first teams away but I’ll keep a ear to the ground and see who’s being sacked next..

Comment #162I don’t mean the whole squad of over 30s, maybe just 2 or 3 but not in shola calibre. I know re-sell value is 0, but you could get them cheap even for free to help the squad play better to achieve more TV money. If with 2 or 3 over 30’s cost like 2 or 3 million can help us get 20 or 40million from where we finish in the league, I’ll say that is good return.

you’d think that, it makes sense…but for some reason we don’t do it.

Comment #166Tevez did not refuse to come off the bench. He refused tk warm up because he had literally just finnished doing so. Mankini took as much of a strop at him.
Having said that, the guy does not exactly have a sparkling attitude. I think some of it may stem from his life before football stardom. That scar round his neck is not from wearing his bow tie too tight!

I’m not into hallucinagenice these days, those days are gone. I like a gin and a spliff though.
I admire you optimistic outlook but I can’t see anything other than another howking. Chelsea are playing pretty damn well, our recent record at the bridge is woeful, injuries, suspensiond etc.
Dead wood at Chelsea? Are we talking about the same team who pretty much out spend everyone else year upon year?
