Newcastle Beaten Again – By Eden Hazard Hat-Trick

5:15 pm, Saturday, February 8th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 51 Comments

Newcastle were beaten by three goals from Eden Hazard this afternoon at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea go top of the Premier League after Arsenal were hammered 5-1 at Liverpool earlier today, with Liverpool 4-0 up after only 20 minutes, and Manchester City could only draw 0-0 at Norwich City.

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Chelsea v Newcastle United - Stamford Bridge

Luuk de Jong – in action this afternoon

The 23 year-old Belgian International scored in the 27th and 34th minutes before slotting home a second half penalty to get his hat-trick and Newcastle’s second 3-0 defeat on the trot.

And now Newcastle’s goal difference is quickly worsening and it’s now -2, and we have just 4 points from the last seven league games, and five of them have been defeats when we haven’t even scored.

Newcastle tried hard and put in a lot of work today, and played quite well until Chelsea went ahead, but the top London side Chelsea were simply too good for a patched together Newcastle side.

And just to make things worse Mathieu Debuchy had to leave the field after 40 minutes with a thigh problem, and will likely miss the home game against Tottenham on Wednesday night.

And we suppose the only joy was that Sunderland lost 2-0 at home to Hull – but that further shows how pathetic Newcastle were last Saturday.

We’re just pleased we already have 37 points and probably need three more for safety, but our season has simply collapsed over the last six weeks. :(

Let us know who you think Newcastle’s best player was today.

im going sameobi, purely for the fact he actually looked like he was going to do something when he got the ball. If he could consistently keep up the good performances for a whole match at a time he should be a regular on the left wing definitely.

  • 2 Tinman // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:18 PM

I think Luuk looks like he can be a great player for us. Some nice link up play. Decent touches. Got into some decent positions. All in his 1st start, in a struggling team and against the EPL’s best defence.
Obviously he wasn’t brilliant, but showed glimors of hope.
Marv and HBA both showed they belong in a different league.

  • 3 MrMojoRisin76 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:19 PM

    Rotonda
Today was predictable and forwards must be licking their lips when they see Willo and Saylor starting.

If you watch the game with somebody who knows about football they’ll tell you that our centre halves had a decent game today. It was our full backs that were the problem

  • 4 DENIro // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:20 PM

    this is the team….
    krul
    willo collo
    debucy santon
    sisoko anita
    gouff sammy
    de jong

or, ben arfa rw, and gouffran st…
remy is not nufc player, and never will be..

  • 5 Macas // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:21 PM

Rotonda – Mbiwa hardly covered himself in glory when he came on. Taylor can be rash at times but Mbiwa seems even more prone to daft errors than him.

  • 6 theartfuldodger // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:21 PM

Ashley has implicitly declared the rest of the season as PRE SEASON FRIENDLIES..

jesper there is 1 thing that i can not stand and thats a hypocrite!
and you have been one on many occasions
and btw it was you who started on me fella again it shows your hypocrisy

so how about you start your own site without your points being questioned in an open blog ffs!!!

and once you’ve gathered your toys and put them back in your pram maybe we could actually have a debate!!

but i wouldn’t bet on it because your hypocrisy is unbelievable!

  • 8 Dojo Shaolin // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:22 PM

0 confidence from our side. only Santon & Sameobi were playing. Sissoko – never liked him. losses ball too much. ben arfa need to work on his fitness. de jong is good. all he need is confidence!

  • 9 toonking // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:25 PM

sammy ameobi is the best player by a mile.

all the stick and criticism he gets, i don’t know where that comes from when players like HBA and marvo aree considered world class to these fools.

  • 10 martoon // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:25 PM

Mojo – Nice to see somebody talking a bit of sense. I only listened to the BBC Newcastle commentary but it sounded like we worked hard but were outclassed by a £32m striker. Santon in midfield was a strange one but it could have worked.

  • 11 manxpie // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:26 PM

a big shout to luuk tho played very well got in good positions worked hard and very good hold up play
considering that was his 1st 90 minutes in about a year!

sammi for me tho just looks like he’s got that natural talent in him he needs to want the ball more tho imo

so what if morineo is doing well at chelsea the fact is this team is a french league team not a premier league team.

No it isn`t Krul,De Jong,Taylor,Dummet,Sammy,Santon and Gosling arn`t french and they were in side that finished the game

  • 13 Dennis Twice // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:28 PM

    Attack Toon attack attack!

  • 14 toon1707 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:28 PM

Lots of people calling for mbiwa to start ahead of Taylor well for me Taylor was much better than him today also am I the only person that thinks Anita is totally hopeless I don’t see what anybody rates about him he can’t tackle can’t shoot and his passing is absolutely woeful on the performance no complaints didn’t expect anything today but a few moments for some encouragement

  • 15 Ketsbaia9 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:28 PM

Sissoko has been poor in every game apart from the Chelsea and Villa games last season. Santon would’ve wanted to play well in front of Mourinho. I wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea snap him up in the summer. Sammi should’ve passed to Sissoko at the end there. Santon was highly impressive.

  • 16 Nufc-83 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:28 PM

Voted for sammi who was easily best player on pitch for us. Tin man sums up de Jong performance perfectly.

  • 17 Ketsbaia9 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:29 PM

Mbiwa is worser than I thought. Keeps conceding fouls and appears poor. We need 4 centre backs .

  • 18 Nufc-83 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:30 PM

Toon1707 Anita is a good player but needs to play in a very technical team. Would look outstanding for a team like Swansea. The problem with us is the lack of movement off the ball and that basically kills Anita’s game

  • 19 MrMojoRisin76 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:31 PM

    Martoon
My opinion on Santon is Pardew thinks he has the technical ability to play higher up the pitch,we have plenty of cover at full back so he put Santon DM,maybe he was thinking of putting Moussa there but if he put Santon there he could use Moussa’s energy higher up the pitch, and Santon is a defender so he would be ok with his defensive responsibilities at DM,he put in a great through ball for Moussa, switched off on the goal and let Hazard run off him but got better as the game went on.

saylor dummett sammy gosling and dejong are NOT players anti pardews like you use as excuse for pardew being the worst manager around you use players like HYA marvo mbiwa sissoko and remy which are from the french league.

  • 21 toonluvva // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:32 PM

Personally I didn’t think we were going to beat Chelski today, so the result was not in the least unexpected.

I followed the match on the radio and felt Sammi put in a good shift and could be one for the future.

Our attention should be focused on Spuds match, but I think we have lost it already with players out injured, suspended or simply just not up for it.

It’s going to be a long long end to the season and it’ll be interesting to watch the dwindling crowds at SJP. A$h£ey will notable for his absences.

Thankfully it is unlikely that we will be relegated, that will keep A$h£ey happy, more SportsDirect adverts being paid for by Sky next season.

  • 22 LeedsMag // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:32 PM

Well done to all the lads who went to the game andd the optimism about nicking a result – but surely this was entirely predictable against a far superior side – even though Mourinho was up against the master tactician AP .
Following the example of the Hull owner changing their name,I hear Ahley is renaming us Newcastle Nil
Is it possible to introduce the fit and proper person test for an established owner?

  • 23 Nufc-83 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:33 PM

We need some proven prem players for me. Would have spent all cabaye money on llalana. Long would have done a good job and certainly would have taken a loan of Tom ince

On a lighter note, i am looking forward to watching this south wales derby, the last one was a corker

  • 25 BandB // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:38 PM

I have been having a go at the Premier League Predictor.
Last year I started a month later, and had us escaping without much to spare.
I made predictions based on the current form table over the last six matches.
I then inputted more optimistic and more pessimistic forecasts.
What you see is the actual Premier League table changing very slowly. On nearly all the models, Southampton come past us soon and pull away.
Below them, current form shows teams out-performing us, but not at a sufficient rate to cause serious alarm.

So even in relegation form (we are second bottom of the table) ninth looks a reasonable bet.
And how can they sack Pardew for that? Even if, as I expect, we are awful.
Either way, the management team may consider themselves justified, and conclude a squad of similar ability could achieve the same next season.

  • 26 manxpie // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:39 PM

as for marveaux that 1 time he lost the ball and he literally stood still says everything you need to know about why he ain’t in the team!

when you compare that to every player in chelsea’s team that are always moving and covering and WORKING HARD!!!

thats wat mourinho does with his teams 1st and foremost gets them working as a team in attack and defense and ok he has far far better players and resources but he still makes these players work as a team no matter who they are or how much there on!

but pardew gets criticised for trying to do the same
arfa n marv great on the ball at times but of the ball the whole team suffers!

  • 27 daztoon // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:39 PM

    toonking

No it is not a FACT that the team is a french league team,so do your homework before saying so.

Krull,,Williamson,Colo,Santon,Tiote are all first team regulars and if you check their birth Cert you will find out none of the them are french or from the french league.

  • 28 Rotonda heights // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:40 PM

    Mojo

I don’t think anyone is taking any pleasure in losing 6 out of 8 and only 1 win with a pathetic 4 goals scored in all that time.

It’s very sad and quite an indictment that you accept mediocrity so readily and think Pardew’s miserable record (1 season apart) is acting in the best interests of the club.

Supporting Pardew isn’t supporting the team, it’s supporting failure which you don’t seem to be the least bit concerned about.

i don’t take any pleasure in watching us implode. 16th last season pardew put down to the Europe league, I’m realistic enough to know we are not expected to win games like today but it’s the Norwich’s Hulls, West Broms etc we lose to as well, while having a – 2 GD!!

You can odiously bore for England with your snidey little digs, however, the fact remains you have nothing constructive to offer on ways to move forward other than accepting the status quo of mid-table mediocrity .

  • 29 theartfuldodger // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:41 PM

Looks like the people who predicted relegation form at the beginning of the season, might actually be 1 cabaye away from being right.

  • 33 roblee7 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:45 PM

Seriously, today we seen why Marv and Mbiwa don’t get a game, so are people going to stop insisting that they start games? Probably not, but worth a go…

And Anita I’ve said since we signed him, don’t really know who what his strengths are. All people say is he’s a good technical player.hmmm, cabaye is a good technical player and Anita is not even half the player. All he seems good at is passing the ball 5 yards and for me, that doesn’t make him a good technical player, sorry Vurnon!!

  • 36 toonking // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:48 PM

if i said anything about morineo on his return not being as good as people think it will have simply been because you yet again think the real newcastle united should have tried to get him like your computer games do because put it this way i would not be talking about other managers at all if fans knew what life is like for any newcastle manager.

  • 37 Rotonda heights // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:49 PM

    Manx

As well as hard work Mourinho spends hours and hours on passing and moving drills. You don’t become that cohesive a unit unless you do

If pardew spent more time doing that side of the game as well as just ” containing ” and defence training 4 days out of 5 a week I’d applaud him.

If pardew wants to be like Mourinho he’s got to follow him in all areas, not just working hard.

Then again tactically you could give Pardew city and Chelsea and they’d probably still have a minus GD !

As for blaming the French, :- saylor, willo, krul, santon, shola, sameobi, anita, de Jong

  • 38 roblee7 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:49 PM

Rotondo…I think unfortunately Pardew is the best we’ll get with Ashley in charge…I really can’t think of anyone better who would join us! I’ve just accepted this and think others should too, he ain’t going anywhere soon IMO. Based on current form he’d of been dismissed after Mackem catastrophy if it was going to happen

so where is your constructive views rotonda who’s this new manager?

where are pardews great attacking options?

i’ve asked you this alot now and still you havent answered it!
so where is your constructive point to back up your argument!!??

  • 42 roblee7 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:53 PM

Toronto…do you accept that Pardew is right to leave out Marv and Mbiwa based on the match today?

  • 43 p // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:53 PM

Roblee i think generally anita does not lose the ball much and generally makes himself available.

I think they are his strenghts, there is no defence splitting ball generally and i am not sure he takes to many set pieces – perhaps he should.

  • 44 stuart no9 // Feb 8, 2014 at 5:55 PM

For your info the only games i play are racing or shoot em ups so that has no bearing on what you said about Mourinho.

I said “KK was never given a chance on his return due to the fact he was never backed by Ashley”

You replied in saying “Mangers never work out in returning to manage for a second time and that Mourinho will fail too”.

Like i said at the time your wrong on both counts.
