Newcastle have suffered two 3-0 defeats in their last two games, a 3-0 humiliation at home against Sunderland – even though the Black Cats are still in 4th bottom place in the league table and just one point above the relegation zone, and then yesterday at Stamford Bridge we lost 3-0 against top of the table Chelsea – who were also in very good form yesterday.
Alan Pardew – injuries and suspensions weaken Newcastle side
And with Coloccini, Tiote, Debuchy and Cisse not available on Wednesday night against Spurs at home, and Loic Remy still having one game of his three match suspension to serve on Wednesday night, it could again be another tough game for Newcastle.
And since we went seven wins in nine league games, ending when we hammered 9 man Stoke 5-1 – we now have one win in seven, and we’ve failed to score in the other six league games – so to say the very least, things have not gone well since we hammered Stoke City for our best win of the season.
Alan Pardew has said the injuries are what’s making Newcastle non competitive in some of these games – and he could be right – even though that’s an excuse.
And for the second season running the back-up players seem to be struggling when they get their chance in the Newcastle first team – although yesterday it was good to see young Sammy Ameobi look the part on Newcastle’s left wing.
Hopefully, once we get past Tottenham and play in two weeks time at home to Aston Villa – the last 13 games should be a lot easier and with our best players back fit again – hopefully we can start to win some games.
Here’s the schedule after Spurs:
February
Sun 23 13:30 H Aston Villa
March
Sat 01 15:00 A Hull City Sun 09 16:00 H Everton Sat 15 15:00 A Fulham Sat 22 15:00 H Crystal Palace Sat 29 15:00 A Southampton
April
Sat 05 15:00 H Man United Sat 12 15:00 A Stoke City Sat 19 15:00 H Swansea City Sat 26 15:00 A Arsenal
May
Sat 03 15:00 H Cardiff City Sun 11 15:00 A Liverpool
The two toughest games are two of the last three – away to Arsenal and away to Liverpool and we don’t expect to get much out of those games.
But the other eleven games are all winnable – and we are hoping Newcastle can still have a good run-in to the season, as doubtful as that may look at the moment.
Yes – we put in the headline an improvement was guaranteed – but of course it isn’t – but we wanted to be a little bit positive – and maybe help lift the spirits of Newcastle fans – which must be down at the moment – if what we feel is any guide. 😀
Supporting Newcastle United was never easy of course – at the best of times.
But in the summer, Newcastle must have a big rethink about what the club wants to do – where do Newcastle want to be when we grow up?
It seems that a big clear-out and bringing in at least four top players in the summer must be an absolute minimum.
And Newcastle must get more ambitious if we are ever to build a top side again.
But there we go again – just like a broken record.

Comment #85Big Mike has 95 million to spend as a minimum. He has made 45 million on transfers in the last 5 years and has made 50 million in SKY money this year alone. Keep the faith in Mike to spend all of that money and more in the summer to deliver the glory days to Newcastle again. We will be challenging for the title next season.

Comment #86Regarding the falling into the Pardew hating trap
When your team finishes 5th has pretty much no injuries or suspensions, you should really wonder.
The Pardew lovers always fall back on he doesn’t have a big enough squad, what a load of tripe we finished 5th using the least amount of players in the league that year.
Why buy him players he won’t use, our falling in our arses came at the same time as we had injuries and suspensions and when our fringe players are called up the generally haven’t played for months, no starts no sub appearances.
Everyone shouts there not good enough, has Sammy just started playing well cos Pardew needs him or could he have had a couple sub appearances and a few starts before we HAD to start him?
The season we finished 5th and this season have pretty much went the same way, unconvincing performances which could have went either way with one or two decent performances thrown in.
Wow stoke 5 1 woopy do we woulda been beat other than the two red cards, palace 3 0 a pen a own goal and a deflection, that’s when I run out of teams I remember we’ve beaten by more than one goal.

Great rallying call.
I agree Santon improved as the game went on. It was one of his better games.
As a fair-minded man though, I wonder who much “spirit and determination” you think he showed in chasing down Hazard before the first goal?
And is the fact they didn’t need to deploy full-backs in forward positions a positive for us?
Surely it shows our midfield was a bit “out of place?”
All the same, just 3-0. Their joint highest victory margin of the season at home.
One in the eye for fair-weather fans.

Fully agree
Especially on the work ethic, commitment and determination shown by some of the younger lads
Said earlier but Marv and HBA should be in a straight up battle for Cabaye’s spot but neither look interested, in the slightest
Marv’s cameo yesterday was disgraceful, there was a time when such a lazy effort would of led to calls of the player bring ousted from the club, but bafflingly there seems to be the opposite!
As for HBA, this lad needs to get himself in gear, he needs to look at the performances of not only a few of his team mates but also his opposite numbers in the prem and learn to become a team player because the lad is simply to greedy and to work shy to be the one pulling the strings for us

Comment #98Haven’t commented on the game… Simple really. Hazard was the difference… Impressed by Ameobi (Never thought I’d say that!) AND, we can’t score. Not convinced the new dude has brought his shooting boots with him. But, give him time. I guess.

i agree with all of that tbh !
if we was not in such a position and scared that if we sold marv and arfa that there money would not be re-invested i would be saying they are not good enough and sell them.
personal opinion is that sammy over his last few games is now better for the team than arfa is ^^

Comment #118What’s the benefit of keeping the same manager? Stability? If it’s that, Pardew has already said that he has had to create several different teams in the three years he’s been here. He loses one player and goes searching for a different way to play. How is that stability?
Let someone else come in and give the players and fans some renewed optimism. People like change because it brings new hope. It would be so refreshing.
What about a change is as good as a rest? After all Pardew is always making the excuse that certain players look tired and need a rest. The club needs a lift that Pardew can’t bring.

Comment #120jesper- I took your advice and signed up with Netflix- just got to find the time to get into it. It’s interesting to note the way successful career women are portrayed and the partners/ husbands as sclub’s as a way to show how much further the Scandinavian Countries have advanced with gender equality than we have in England.
I spent time last summer and around Xmas time in the US and the women their are probably somewhat similar in making headway. I have studied the highly successful Saga character who has been saddled with Asperger’s whereas in the UK it would be a man used to
Show a total lack of empathy in our traditional society. You do hve the same relative poverty, drug and mental illness issues- it’s a good social study.
I will catch up on the past episodes because it’s got a lot more to offer than the usual detective series- LOL.
