We could see some of our injured players back for the tough game against Spurs on Wednesday night at home, and this is the first home game since we lost 3-0 again to Sunderland – so we have to hope it’s better than the same game last season when we didn’t bother turning up against a Liverpool side that were missing Louis Suarez through suspension, but we were still hammered and outclassed 6-0.
Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran – Yoan back – maybe Papiss too
There’s a good chance that Yoan Gouffran will be making his return against Spurs, and a chance that Papiss Cisse is fit again, after he has had some trouble with his back.
But we thought that Cheick Tiote would have a chance on Wednesday night with his hamstring problem, but he will not play against Spurs, and Colo should be ready for the Villa game on Sunday, 23rd February, after hopefully recovering from his knee injury.
Mathieu Debuchy will miss the game with his calf injury, but should be back for the Aston Villa game .
This is what Alan Pardew told the local press today:
“Cheick’s got a great chance of Villa on February 23” “Colo will be in and around it. Papiss will be fine by then.”
“But Papiss will be the bonus if we can get him right for Wednesday.” “Debuchy’s injury just adds to our issues.” “I think we all know Wednesday’s a tough game for us.”
“We’re going to have four or five big players out, but they’re all on the verge of comebacks.”
Loic Remy will still be unavailable and will be serving the last game of his three match suspension, for being sent off at Norwich City, and he’s been a huge loss to the side.
So maybe it’s just Yoan back on Wednesday, but then in 11 days after that we should be injury free – fingers crossed – and Newcastle will have to get back to our winning ways against Villa.
And maybe even Tottenham on Wednesday night?

Comment #1I feel a bit sorry mbiwa. He was playing really well alongside willo when given a run in the team, then lost his place when he had to cover for debuchy.
He’s not played since and had to come on on Saturday midway through to face an onslaught. He definitely had a poor game but it unfair to write him off because of a dodgy half hour.

Comment #2If goufran is fit I’d play.
Krul
Santon, willo, mbiwa, Haidara
Anita, sissokho
Sammy, HBA, goufran
De Jong
I wouldn’t let marveaux near the starting line up, he’s far too lazy.
Hopefully HBA can have a good game now he’s getting a run in the team and Anita can start doing something.

There simply has to be some money spent in the summer it is a necessity but unfortunately it won’t be to strengthen the team it will be to replace departed with cheaper options, we were five players short las January and Mashley took the plaudits for bringing in those five players but Perch and Simmo etc should have been replaced as were back to square one albeit with a litttle bit better quality, and no matter what we’ll still be five players short again come the end of the summer.

Same goes for Anita when he’s played well in the past, dropped.
Marveaux played match winning balls last year. He can’t get in either.
Happens quite often and doesn’t do anything for their confidence and motivation when they can’t keep their place after playing well.
Pardew has said before that players will earn their place if hey play well. He’s not telling the truth once again. No surprises there though.

Comment #7jesperfuglsang…..from two or three threads ago when you were up and about st 530am! Impressive!!!
That Swissramble link dif make interesting reading and it showed just how much the club’s finances have improved since Ashley took it over.
Ok, he’s gone a bit too far in his approach to transfer fees, wages and overheads, squad size. Obviously he’s made some massive errors of judgement which haven’t helped his image with the fans.
If only Ashley’d be more open, ambitious, employ people who are both knowledgeable about and experienced in football at a high level who could advise him on footballing and build a squad that’s big and takented enough to give us all something to enjoy and feel part of, again.
It’s not too much to ask….. Or is it?

I know mbiwa made a mistake on sat but Taylor has been doing that for the last 10 years. Mbiwa is faster and better on the ball and IMO the best we’ve looked this season was with him and willo.

a few points
we have the same as every other team, a 25 man squad, why pardew choses not to use it only he can answer,
player value, are you really worried how much the player is worth that we are buying, should we only judge them on how much we pay for them,
I am more interested in player development or lack of it, and to many of our players worse now than when they joined, pardew does not keep his player fresh by rotating them, by playing some like shola instead of young AA , we know shola is gone in the summer, we know we get very little out of him, lets see what the kid is made of,
player value, why should we pay more, when you can pay less, for various reasons like contracts running out, or just not required by the manager, you can pick up good players,

Comment #15Cisse and de Jong with the Dutchman playing withdrawn might be good. Surprised M’Biwa wasn’t used in midfield ahead of Santon as he has played there for Montpellier.
Had Remy played on Saturday he’d have surely put away a couple of chances Sissoko and Sammy fluffed.
All very well buying cheap but we really need to see a top class striker. They don’t come cheap. Putting teenagers on the bench against Chelsea is really rubbish.
