Debuchy, Gouffran And Cisse Start Against Tottenham

Papiss Cisse gets his first start since October 5th and lines up tonight against Tottenham, and it’s a 4-4-2 formation with de Jong and the Senegal striker up front, and Mathieu Debuchy has been passed fit and resumes at right back, with Davide Santon at left back.

papiss cisse stoke penalty

Papiss Cisse – gets a start tonight

And as we had suspected Ben Arfa drops to the bench,  with Yoan Gouffran returning to the side, after recovering from injury, and Sammy Ameobi keeps his place after his excellent showing on Saturday at Chelsea.

But local lad Adam Armstrong loses his place on the bench, and it looks like Davide Santon reverts to left back,  as Mathieu Debuchy is surprisingly fit – which is excellent news – and Tim Krul also passed his late fitness test.

The two wing men with be Gouffran and Ameobi with Anita and Sissoko in central midfield.

Newcastle need to get something out of this game tonight,  and at least we have Gouffran and Cisse returning – so we have an additional two goalscorers in the side from last Saturday.

We cannot win if we cannot score, and we’ve failed to score in six of the last seven league games.

Hopefully we can get a result tonight against 5th placed Spurs – with Newcastle currently in 9th place.

Teams:

Newcastle (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Mathieu Debuchy, Mike Williamson, Steven Taylor, Davide Santon; Yoan Gouffran, Moussa Sissoko (c), Vurnon Anita, Sammy Ameobi; Luuk de Jong, Papiss Cisse
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Paul Dummett, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Dan Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux, Hatem Ben Arfa, Shola Ameobi

Tottenham: (4-3-3): Hugo Lloris; Kyle Walker, Younes Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen, Kyle Naughton; Nabil Bentaleb, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue; Aaron Lennon; Emmanuel Adebayor, Mousa Dembele
Substitutes: Brad Friedel, Michael Dawson, Nacer Chadli, Christian Eriksen, Andros Townsend, Harry Kane, Roberto Soldado

Referee: Neil Swarbrick (Lancashire)

#nufc subs bench Elliot, Yanga-Mbiwa, Dummett, Gosling, Marveaux, Ben Arfa, Shola Ameobi. #thfc

So Benny back to the bench and Cisse back in the mix.

Looks like a hard working team, personally don’t mind a bit of “back to basics” today. Not saying go ultra defensive, just back to basics.

With out current form we need some points.

How on earth has HBA been dropped and Sammy keeps his place?
I understand that Sammy is a young talent and has had a few games but with the two upfront, HBA would be immense.
For me, Hatem is a starter every game and the inconsistency in his performances is down to the lack of consistent playing time.

Either way, hope we get a result!

Our most creative players Marveaux and HBA on the bench. Our best defensive pairing kept apart again. Anita against one of the most rampant midfields in the premier league. Nobody does dumb like Pardumb does it

i wonder what could rodgers/martinez and some other managers do with the likes of ben arfa
pardew can’t make him a regular in a team which can’t score 3 or praobably 4 games in a row

HBA deserves to be on the bench.

    Not a team player.

The game isnt showing off your skills, its about getting a result.

toonbrother….If my best defensive pairing you mean Willo and M’Biwa, I would say that I would normally agree, but I don’t know how you start MBiwa today after his performance the other day.

Granted he needs minutes, but against Spurs when we need some points?

That isn’t to say I think Saylor is a good choice mind…

Taylor ahead of Mbiwa is unbelievable. I do not understand that at all. Good to see Cisse gets his start and I really hope he scores tonight as does De Jong. Ben Arfa on the bench is another debatable decision. But if he plays he can cause teams lots of trouble, but that includes his own team as well. Gouffran is really needed and will be important for the team.

    Wonders will never cease.

Happy days glad Cisse is getting a chance, not the team I’d pick but who cares, c’mon Cisse.

I’m going to be brave considering our recent goal scoring problems and go 2 2 a goal each for De Jong and Cisse to put a smile on our faces.

    Jesper…Most likely 🙂

Will they? Tough call. It’s hard to know how to pass to a team mate and score goals 😉

Just want to be clear on my position about going back to basics. Some times, when things aren’t going well (which they are not), it’s best to do what you know best. Re-build from the bottom up sort of.

Mind, with us still being top 10 with little chance of being dragged down too much (famous last words aye?), perhaps we’d be best to not worry so much and try something new.

For everyone asking where is HBA.

Are you on about the same HBA that has done nothing for the last few games?

Decent line up. If we win tonight everyone will call pardew an arse for not putting more faith in cisse easier. If we lose, pardew will be an arse for dropping HBA.

It must be hard being pardew.

HBA is shite, the sooner his unwarranted fan club recognise that, the better. The gulf in class between him and Hazard was there for all to see against Chelsea and was maybe a watershed game in terms of HBAs long term future at the club. Think Pardew recognises he’ll never fulfil his potential. Had more chances to impress than many and hasn’t produced. He’ll always be a wasted talent – there have been many with ability that just cannot mentally click and become consistent. Forget reputation, Sammy has looked more threatening than him over the last few weeks. Glad to see Cisse, who has been frozen out and given pitch time in dribs and drabs. Hopefully this is a prolonged run n the team.

not bad for a player who was about to leave the club to qpr
he was very bad last games he played but it seems mbiwa will never obtain pardew’s trust

Hope you don’t mind me asking but what’s back to basics ?

Is that where you pass the ball to a player on your team, tackle the opposition when they have ball.

Hope he told them the aim of the game is to put the ball in opposition net whilst not allowing them to do the same. 😉
