Newcastle Lose 4-0 – Fifth Home Defeat In A Row

9:37 pm, Wednesday, February 12th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 109 Comments

Newcastle were again second best tonight at St. James’ Park and conceded three poor goals, and then Spurs scored a terrific late fourth goal. Tottenham didn;t have to work too hard to easily win this game,  and that was our third defeat in a row, and we’ve conceded 10 goals and not scored in thiose last three league games – and it’s our fifth league defeat in a row. in all competitions.

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur - St James' Park

Steven Taylor blocks a shot form Paulinho

A first half goal from Adebeyor after 19 minutes put Tottenham ahead after Krul could only block a cross, and then Tim again could only block a shot from Adebayor after 52 minutes and Paulinho hit the ball home.

And then to make things worse after 81 minutes Tim Krul blocked a shot from Andros Townsemnd, but Adebayor put the ball into the back of the net.

And then after 88 minutes just to rub it in – substitute Nacer Chadli scored with a terrific shot from outside the penalty area, and it even took a great save by Tim Krul from Andros Townsend in stoppage time to prevent it being 5-0.

And it’s the fifth home defeat in a row in all competitions since we beat a 9 man Stoke side 5-1, we’ve lost all our games at home since then – so much for St. James’ Park as a fortress.

And add in a defeat by second bottom Cardiff City in the FA Cup and it doesn’t look good – and we’ve taken only 4 points from a possible 24 points in the league.

Newcastle tried hard – no doubt about that – but we simply were not good enough and the defense was again too porous.

We’re just glad we only have 3 points to get fto safety – we hope.

But Newcastle are now in free fall and selling Yohan Cabaye didn’t help at all – but the players seemed dispirited and jaded at the end of the game.

Newcastle are in trouble, and we just hope we can start turning things around against Aston Villa.

Let us know who you think our best player was tonight.

Gotta feel this is a good time to sack Pardew. It won’t happen but it gives a new manager some real time to start implementing new ideas and getting to know the players.

  • 2 Beattie25 // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:39 PM

    Another Pardew record breaker!

    Pardew out ashley out

pardew has lost the dressing room, its quite clear that most of the players just don’t care, why be at a club that has no ambition.
Let alone our coaches can’t get the best out of our players i.e. benny sissoko marveaux cisse

We need fresh start in the summer, new owner, new manager, new players

  • 6 donegalmag // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:40 PM

Players should be ashamed, feel bad for Pardew but its time for change…wont be sorry to see a lot of these players go in the summer either

  • 7 Oleg G // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:40 PM

How can Pardew still stay? I mean, there is a limit to anyone. He sees that it is going nowhere.

  • 8 Beattie25 // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:40 PM

Yet despite all of this there will still be 48 000 on the next home game.

The fans are killing nufc as much as Ashley and Pardew.

  • 11 p // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:41 PM

rake, I do feel that it may be time now for a managerial change. He has not had it the easiest but, you can’t lose that many games that convincingly (without scoring) and have any credibility.

Excuses wear thin at this point

  • 12 Transfer Sage // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:41 PM

  • 13 mindshaft // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:42 PM

Goodbye pardew – you seem a decent enough bloke but your record over last 7 games is indefensible – if you had any self respect you would resign although I doubt you have or will so we’re sadly reliant on the fat financial controller to put you out of our misery – which sadly he won’t

The team looks as if they have had all their ambition and confidence sucked out of them.

    Thank you, A$h£€¥.

Can Spurs give Pardum a lift back down to London?

  • 17 Tommyy // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:42 PM

Well that was gut wrenchingly bad. An entire game of no organisation, commitment or ability tonight. Something has to change and if it’s not going to be Pardew then it might as well be starting the entire reserve team. They can’t do any worse!

  • 18 Belfast // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:43 PM

  • 19 NUFC FOR SALE // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:43 PM

For Gods sake Pardew has to go now surely????

He has broken every cr@p record in the book

Why oh why oh why does he insist on playing Taylor and Williamson????

Mbiwa and Williamson have had the best central defensive partnership this season and as soon as Collo came back he broke it up and now Taylor’s back he gets straight into the team.

This manager is THE worst I have seen in all the years I’ve been supporting them…..I’d take Aladyce, Souness, Daglish, Jack Charlton anybody over this joker.

I don’t care who we get I just can’t stand to watch another interview with his slobbery bottom lip blaming everything but himself

  • 20 Beattie25 // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:43 PM

  • 24 Transfer Sage // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:44 PM

I still think the team that started was decent, i was happy with selection and we did play quite well, made some decent chances but our defending was non existent and Krul was very poor, should be knocking the ball further away, not good enough.

Towards the last 30 mins though we just gave up and rolled over, was awful to watch.

I don’t think Pardew is the worst manager around but no matter how well we are doing under him there seems to be a period like this every year where the wheels totally come off.

  • 25 Mike's Iron Curtain // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:44 PM

Blame the masochistic losers that turn up every match, because they pathetically cannot find something else to do. MA reaps what he sows, the fans reap what they sow. A vicious circle if ever there was one.

  • 34 Newcastle for alltid // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:45 PM

This was just sad. Outplayed, outfought, and downright given a lesson in simple pass-and-move football. I`ve never rated this seasons Spurs side, but today they looked like they were playing a practice match against their u21 side. That`s how completely underwhelming our performance was. No game plan whatsoever, players looking lost.

The sad thing is that who will turn this around? Remy? No, he just finishes the chances off. Tiote? Nope. It`s easy to say silly things just after a defeat. But when a defeat is so total as it was today, I just can`t hold it back; we need a change. With todays Newcastle we`ll just repeat the same “almost a top team – sell our best player(s) – crap team again”-cycle over and over again. It`s something no Newcastle fan should have to suffer.

Pardew out – For being totally inept tactically, unable to develop both individual players and the team as a whole.

Ashley out – For making us the feeder club that we are.

  • 35 check the toastie // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:45 PM

What a complete load of Shite. He has killed the spirit f the club for 3 years.

    Percy OUT

  • 36 Unbelievable Tekkers // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:46 PM

I’ve always been 50/50 on Pardew but im finding it very difficult to see reasons not to make a change. We’re going to have to make a lot of changes in the summer with players so may as well start with the manager now and give the new one a chance to see whats what. However I think we all know this wont happen the only time Pardew will get sacked is if we have another season like last year.

  • 37 mag // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:46 PM

  • 40 Rotonda heights // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:47 PM

We had 6 internationals out there and Ben Arfa and MYM on the bench.

Can’t keep blaming everything but Pardew

In the name of god just go now Pardew. No cohesion, no fluidity, no tactics, quite frankly the most clueless joke of a manager I’ve ever seen. Like last season players aren’t playing for him any more.

Lost 7 out of the last 9 with only 4 goals scored inc v Cardiff, Sunderland and WBA – hardly giants!!and Cabaye played in 5 of those.

No more excuses, just a totally s–t manager.

  • 41 89Norcal // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:47 PM

Yup think it’s about time to leave Pards

Getting beat to better teams is one thing, getting trounced game after game is another. He’s been resting on the excuse of our injuries and suspensions. Though they are big misses, you have to make up for it with fight and tactics.

  • 42 Edd Case // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:47 PM

Surely, if MA has a shred of ambition and KNOWS that Laudrup, a proven, experienced PL manager, that also happens to play attractive, passing football with his teams, is AVAILABLE, you’d surely, sack AP and move on?

    Surely….

Wish People would shut up about tactics, they mean nothing when players do not want to play for the team or the manager….i am a manager of a local team in Ireland, player attitude is way more important..players will promise you the world in the changing room or at training and then bottle it on the pitch..

  • 58 Assam Toon // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:52 PM

i still dont understand why people blame pardew more than ashley. please realise it that manager is only as much crucial in today’s football. its all about whom you buy more than how you manage. you can make a bunch of players play well after you sell the best player and do not bring in a replacement. i will criticise pardew more vocally if he fails after managing an enhanced squad, although i think he is no good as a manager. i just think that lack of investment is the bigger problem here, not manager. we are not some small club who are resigned to play with limited investments, we need and expect better players, so do our players who expect better colleagues. why blame pardew only, blame and get ashley out and then check how pardew fares with new owner and better investments.

  • 59 scitoon // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:52 PM

Utter sh1te tonight. Debuchy is the only one who can say he tried. Sammy put in a shift but no end product as did Goofy, even if he did look a little rusty. Rest of them can go. Will Pards be sacked? Unlikely. Still think MA is to sell this Summer so why rock the boat – or indeed pay Pards off and all the fees of signing a new manager. Rest of the season will be very long lads…

I actually said that I don’t understand how Pardew can take it anymore. I think he will resign, at least I would if this would be happening to me.

I did say that looks like he lost mentally the players so no point in being a manager anymore and this is why he should be sacked. But what I am really thinking is how he can stand this. I mean, so much pressure, so much embarrassment.

  • 63 toonluvva // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:53 PM

Just remember, it’s A$h£€¥ who will appoint our next manager if (or when) he sacks Pardum.

Things are just going to get worse.

I fear for my team next season if we don’t have a radical rethink of which players we are going to keep and who we are going to move on.

A$h£€¥ will be the one keeping a tight hold on the purse strings as always, gambling that we finish 17th or above.

The manager has to motivate them, same as in any walk of life…..it will be made harder when the top bloke Ashley shows no ambition…how to you convince the players to work hard when their efforts won’t be rewarded.

  • 81 Munster Mag // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:57 PM

Its Ashley who is far more culpable than Pardew. He has ripped the arse out of the club and left them rudderless. This bunch of players showed they had little backbone last season, and just as little now. I’m afraid we can also start blaming our genius scout for getting the wimps like Santon in. Pardew had them doing really well for ages but when the best player in the team is flogged and the club shows its lack of ambition, it doesnt help anyone. Didnt Billson once say this was our best owner ever? And isnt being shot better than being stabbed ? Certainly at this stage we have to consider a new boss, but be careful 0 we know Ash likes Brits. Big Eck anyone ???

  • 82 scitoon // Feb 12, 2014 at 9:57 PM

Most fans have given up and watching this sh1t every week is making me depressed. But im NUFC till I die and its so hard to not turn my back on the team however sh1t their doing and however much turmoil our club is in….

@Oleg Looking at his own poor resume he knows he couldn’t get a job at other BLP clubs.

He’s doing an easy job with huge money to his bank. That’s everyone’s dream lol.

Afterall Ashley is looking for a Yes man and Pardew is doing it well.

I think keep the players – flog pardew .

  • 94 Jeff from Benwell // Feb 12, 2014 at 10:00 PM

    Krul was crap
However he was fantastic at WHL
What goes around comes around I guess.
No point in binning AP at the mo.
If we just escape the drop by the skin of our teeth expect Hoddle in as manager this Summer.

Now we can see where we are.

Above us are 8 teams. They lost 8 or less games this season.

    Us – 11 loses.

Our goal difference is negative. All the team above us have a positive goal difference.

38 goals against. Only Stoke, Norwich Cardiff and Fullham have a worse one with Sunderland and WBA with us – 38.

Very very sad. And all of this only in the last 8 games.
    4 points out of 24 possible !!!!!!

There is no defending pard’s – people can pint to ashley but despite injuries we have a half decent team with many internationals – he’s clearly setting them up wribgly , tactics amiss or just clueless – flair players look worse than ever and none of their weak points ironed out of their game – think the whole coaching staff need the boot as well

  • 97 nufcursed // Feb 12, 2014 at 10:02 PM

ALLRIGHT GUYS, SOME OPINIONS ON THIS PROPOSITION PLEASE!

it’s clear any actions we would take towards ashley at newcastle won’t matter, so what about this:

WHY DON’T WE HIT ASHLEY WHERE IT HURTS HIM THE MOST? AND THAT IS IN HIS SPORTS DIRECTS SHOPS!

these shops are all around the world, so even people outside the uk would be able to take action!
why don’t we steal, vandalize, spray graffiti all over his shops with a clear message: ASHLEY SELL UP OR YOU’LL LOSE EVEN YOUR PRECIOUS SHOPS!

Just looking at that 1st eleven and bench is all I need to know for the slip we are on.

Cabaye and Tiote’s form for the club since the start of the season has been pivotal in our league standing. Take them away and that is are battle and heartbeat gone from the side.

Take Remy away and Gouffran and that is our goals also.

Gouffran was never going to hit the ground running tonight on his first game back and pop up with a goal. He needs a game or two yet.

This team and bench is no where near good enough to battle with any top six outfit. To give these a game we needed all of the players above and that was just to compete in this game. Don’t over hype the quality of certain players there average at best.

    01 Krul
    26 Debuchy
    03 Santon (Dummett – 45′ )
    07 Sissoko
    06 Williamson
    27 Taylor
    11 Gouffran
    08 Anita
    09 Cissé
    18 de Jong (Ben Arfa – 63′ )
    28 Sa Ameobi (Marveaux – 71′ )

    Substitutes
    10 Ben Arfa
    13 Yanga-Mbiwa
    15 Gosling
    21 Elliot
    22 Marveaux
    23 Sh Ameobi
    36 Dummett

Interested to know what the gate was. I stopped going two years ago after 50 years. An empty stadium is the only way to get rid of the fat bandit.
Supporting the team and not the regime is utter bollocks. The regime is the team. The fat controller runs everything. You might as well walk up to SJP or whatever the place is called now and put 30 quid in the fat man’s pocket. How can you all be so dumb?

That team is decent although not Prem winning, pard’s is not getting the best out of em – I can’t even blame Ashley for that

  • 101 donegalmag // Feb 12, 2014 at 10:04 PM

    Transfer Sage

its not like in movies when a manager bursts in before a game with a big speech that unites the team…that is pure BS..players do not respond to that Hollywood crap..players need to be babied by managers so that they dont throw a strop..players are motivated on the pitch by other players who can take the game by the scruff of the neck…I hate to say it but like Cabaye, also like Bale, Suarez, Ronaldo, Messi, Shearer, Rooney, when these players play bad their team play bad…you need the right Characters which we have none of..

Keep any protests peaceful. Don’t buy season’s tickets, protest peacefully in the streets and at the games if you do go. Don’t buy Ashley kit. He’ll leave if the money supply gets cut down.

  • 103 Toon-Prodigy // Feb 12, 2014 at 10:04 PM

We beat Spurs away from home with are fit first eleven don’t forget.

Pardew is not a miracle worker.

  • 104 70TWO // Feb 12, 2014 at 10:04 PM

The TV commentor was saying that the problem with 442 is that it is one less in midfield and this was the case. I really enjoyed seeing 2 strikers and thought that with a bit more playing time the combination could work. Unfortunately modern forwards need to be Strikers+ there is little benefit to Cisse playing on the shoulder and trying to spring the offside trap, de Jong did drop back and took the ball in but his partner was not open. Possibly Gouffran would have been a better partnering de Jong as he can also drop deeper and he is not effective on the wing in a four man midfield. Whereas there was little solid possession in front of their penalty area, in the latter stages with all the ‘creatives’ on, there was to much. Spurs were just mopping up in defense when crosses had been causing them problems earlier.

Tiote has certainly been missed but these losses date back to Christmas and Pardew needs to get a grip, because at the moment I have no enthusiasm for anything other than dissappointment. The players and Manager are letting themselves and the club down, which will only damage the progress they have made.

  • 105 Goodfella // Feb 12, 2014 at 10:05 PM

We are slowy being turned into a club like stoke or west brom just being happy to be in this league

  • 106 GeordieTwo // Feb 12, 2014 at 10:08 PM

I just feel we’re building up to something tremendous. I think we will score sooner or later. No really, I believe in the Pardew method.

  • 107 GeordieTwo // Feb 12, 2014 at 10:10 PM

I believe we have a big future in a lower division women’s league. They’re a little rough at times but I think we can just about manage it. Stay with me on this mates and I’ll lead you through to the promised land.

  • 108 GeordieTwo // Feb 12, 2014 at 10:12 PM

I’m excited about the way we’re building up momentum. Was Ash at the game? He must be very excited as well. So much to discuss with all his mate? Who would that be again?

  • 109 GeordieTwo // Feb 12, 2014 at 10:20 PM

I think I understand our strategy now (Pardew’s that is). First we attack with reckless abandon. Then after the other side scores, we fall back and defend poorly. Very, very interesting.
