We suppose you could say Newcastle are in free fall now, losing their fifth successive game at home and their fourth successive home league defeat a row, and that’s for the first time in 37 years – and the truth tonight was that although the players tried hard, they were simply not good enough against a superior Tottenham side, and Newcastle have looked pretty hopeless in the last month or so.
Adebayor after scoring tonight
Newcastle are a better side than we’ve shown since we lost that home game 1-0 to Arsenal, but the worrying thing now is the confidence of the player seems shattered, and Davide Santon gave the ball away far too many times in the first half, and he had another poor performance before local lad Paul Dummett came on at the start of the second half and looked solid enough.
But it’s now up to manager Pardew to sort out whatever’s going on in that dressing room, and we have to think they may be feeling sorry for themselves after owner Mike Ashley sold our best player in January – but Yohan’s gone now and never coming back.
And Newcastle have 12 games left to show they are a better side than they’ve been in the last eight league games, when we’ve won only one and failed to score in all the other seven – and that’s simply a terrible and embarrassing record.
Here’s how we saw the game tonight – if you still want to read on.
After five minutes Santon was beaten down the right, but Tottenham couldn’t take advantage og the situation and then after just eight minutes Cisse should have scored as a cross came in and de Jong headed it down brilliantly to Cisse three yards out, but his shot was saved by Lloris – but Cisse should have buried that one.
And then after 19 minutes another terrible goal conceded by Newcastle as Nabal Bentaleb screamed down the left wing and shrugged off a poor tackle from Sissoko, and was allowed to get in a cross that Krul could only push away straight to Adebayor, and the big striker had the simplest of tasks to tap the ball home – poor goalkeeping by Tim Krul.
After 26 minutes Cisse was onto a good ball through by Sammy Ameobi, as he beat Lloris to the ball but his lob was wide and he should have done better.
And then after 31 minutes Lennon hit the post with Krul beaten, as the Newcastle defense had looked shaky in the first half hour.
And then on 38 minutes Gouffran was through down the right wing, but he couldn’t get his shot in with Cisse and de Jong waiting in the middle.
Half time came and it was 1-0 and Newcastle had looked shaky in defense, but had tried to come back in the game, but the Newcastle team had given the ball away far too much – especially Davide Santon – in that first half.
Newcastle will now have to score to avoid their fifth home defeat in a row in the second half.
Paul Dummett came on at the start of the second half for Davide Santon, who had a shaky first half at left back, and Newcastle started the second half with more energy.
But then another poor goal conceded by Newcastle and again Tim Krul was at fault, as a shot by Adebayor was only parried by the goalkeeper and Paulinho was there to bang the ball home, and it was 2-0 to Spurs and more poor defending by Newcastle, as Krul should have done better.
On 63 minutes de Jong was replaced by Hatem Ben Arfa.
On 66 minutes Dummett won a corner and the local lad has looked good since he came on and from the Ben Arfa, Dummett got in a diving header, but it was blocked as Newcastle were trying to get back in this game.
And then two goals in the last 10 minutes from Adebayor after 82 minutes and a great goal from Nacer Chadli after 88 minutes made the humiliation complete, and we were hammered 4-0 after losing the last two league games 3-0.
It’s not good.

Comment #82Carver and Stone are dinosaurs in the game. They need replacing but the root of the problem lies with Ashley always. He just has to spend and appoint wisely. How in the hell he chose Kinnear for first the Manager’s role a while back and then for the DoF is beyond me, it just proves he is clueless and always takes this club back years if not decades, he’s moving us in the wrong direction.
Although we are lucky to have Super Scout Carr in our ranks to unearth some gems, what is the point when the best gems he finds, Ashley isn’t willing to pay anything near the going price for them?
Where stuck in this shithole for a long long time until he finally quits trying and leaves the club and only then can we really build a proper team and become successful.

Suarez wouldn’t have left Ajax to join a club that wasn’t already pushing Europe, a club that has recently won the CL etc. etc. Come on, Liverpool are a much bigger club than us! Suarez wouldn’t have joined Spurs or Everton either. What huge player has joined Spurs? They have signed some gems but they’ve also overpaid for a lot of players to get them to come in, especially last summer. Players want to actually come and play for Man Utd, City, Chelski, Arsenal and Liverpool. Beyond those 5 teams it’s who pays them the most and who they think will give them the most recognition so they can move to one of those 5 or a big club abroad.

Comment #88TDSarf…Unfortunately what the club say doesn’t always tie in with what they do.
You say its simply a myth that all Ashley wants is to stay in the league.
The only time we’ve really seen Ashley give a toss is when we were facing relegation last season. Perhaps just a strange co-incidence?
I have no idea where anyone can see any proof in this plan to keep on improving? Improving what? We improved the summer after our first season back in the PL. Since then it’s been nothing or panic planning.
Are you saying then that it’s illogical for Ashley to want to spend as little as possible, sit mid-table, collect the SKY money each season, pay back his loan and then sell up?
We get he’s financially motivated, no arguments there. He doesn’t have to have ambition for the club to hit that target though.

Comment #89Even Pardew nuthuggers admit that he is tactically inept but they love him for his “motivational skills and man management” and the way he sets up his team. Well.. the players are hopelessly lost and have no desire or commitment. They are just so poor and demoralized it’s pathetic.
Pardew is the cancer that is killing Newcastle.

I think we can all see as supporters, what the problem is and with truckloads of money coming into club over the next few months, the time is right now to make wholesale changes from the top downwards.

The club gets so much more money from being top 10 that it’s worth it! And sponsors don’t want to support a club that is nearly getting relegated, they want to be involved with a club that is successful. So we need to establish the club as a “Top 8 Premier League club” and we’re there to stay.

Comment #97Yes, the owner, if he wants to continue owning Newcastle and derive any benefit from it, be that financial or other, needs to appoint a proper chief executive with a proven track record and trust him to run the club.
In turn, that CEO, needs to appoint a proven director of football who would need to assess and review what is going on with Newcastle from a coaching and playing perspective, academy through first team.
That in turn would lead to many jobs being lost and, some replacements.
Can’t see that happening anytime soon though. Sad really, because it pay for itself in terms of an investment.

Manager reaction- Newcastle 0-4 Tottenham
Alan Pardew
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew: “I was more upset about the performance. That wasn’t an honest display from us. I mentioned a few things in the dressing room that I hope hits home – I won’t mention them to the media. Tottenham dominated proceedings from the start to the finish. They won with a bit to spare – that shouldn’t happen at St James’ Park regardless of who I have and don’t have available. We lacked confidence tonight. We need a break in front of goal. Their keeper made two or three outstanding saves. The overall performance is a concern, it’s not the result or the fact we haven’t scored.”

When Chelsea and Man City were bought they had had no more success or reputation than we had.
It should, therefore, make no difference when a buyer comes calling. Granted we aren’t in Laandon Town but what we do have is absolutely MASSIVE potential and a loyal fan base waiting to rocket to unbelievably huge numbers.
Why hasn’t someone bought us because they could be sitting on a gold mine roller coaster? Look what happened in the Hall/Keegan days with a progressive, visionary and ambitious owner and the right people around him.
If any prospective owners are out there – come on and set this place alight. It won’t need much of a match.

Comment #117TDSarf…I haven’t said Ashley wants a club that is always involved in relegation scraps…he wants mid-table. If he can do better without further investment then great, but to chase much better than mid-table (okay, we can pretty it up a bit and call it top 10 – meaning 7th/8th – 10th) may well cost money and it’s illogical to throw money at something that isn’t guaranteed!
We were 8th, comfortably 8th in fact and sell our arguably best player and then don’t replace him.
Yeah, sounds like we’re trying to let everyone know we’re top 8 material and we’re there to stay.
I understand the sense in what you’re posting, I just don’t know how or why you actually believe it applies to Ashley based on his actual actions…not just what makes sense.
