Loic Remy scored the winner for Newcastle two minutes into the three minutes of added time at St. James Park this afternoon with a brilliant piece of individual skill, as he got the ball on his right foot in the penalty area, switched to his left and shot the ball home to send St. James’ Park wild – and Loic wasn’t too calm either, as he ripped his shirt off and stood on the sidings and saluted the crowd.
And Loic had hit the bar three minutes earlier from twelve yards out, and the goal was the first Newcastle have scored in seven and a half hours of football.
Moussa Sissoko shoots in first half this afternoon
Loic may not sign for us in the summer, but he’s probably never known such passion and excitement from a crowd, after he scored a goal, as he did this afternoon.
But Newcastle also missed a number of chances in this game, and Cisse somehow had a fantastic opportunity two minutes into added time in the first half, but somehow put the ball over the bar from just eight yards out.
But this result is MASSIVE for Newcastle, and it’s a case that the result is so much more important than their form today, although the Newcastle side were decent enough and the players gave their all, with Mike Williamson and Coloccini sold at the back.
And it will give the lads lots of confidence – and if Loic Remy wasn’t the darling of Tyneside before this game – he is now.
