Newcastle got a win with just 30 seconds to go in added time this afternoon, but based on our second half display we probably just about the deserved the win, which was the first one in five games for the Magpies, and only the second win in the last ten games – so we were really due a win – that’s for sure.
Loic Remy – hot property in the summer
It was simply a huge win for Newcastle, and yes we were probably a little bit lucky to get all 3 points – but after what’s happened this year – we’ll take it – thank you very much.
This is what Alan Pardew said after the game today:
“I was a little happier after Loic’s goal went in than I was before,” “It was a strange game and I was beginning to wonder, but we are on 40 points now and I think we’ve had a decent season.”
“We’ve not been very good at home since beating Stoke on Boxing Day but the win will settle us down The players can be a little bit calmer now and show more composure.”
“Technically I gave us six out of ten but I thought Loic was the one player with the composure to score that goal,” “He was the best player on the pitch. The game seemed a little bit slower when he was on the ball, not as frantic.”
“Like Johan Cruyff, high-class players like him can slow a game down. He’s going to be hot property this summer.”
That last comment suggests that Alan knows he will not be joining Newcastle on a permanent basis this summer.
It’s just so sad that Newcastle don’t have the ambition we once had, when Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan managed the club and we were a top four club in England, and then we would have a chance to get Remy in permanently – and he would want to sign for us.
That’s not the case today.

Lol are you on this planet or what?
So Cole and Ferdinand weren’t top strikers?.
Cole was our top striker at the time of his sale, maybe that`s why fans gathered outside the ground at the time.

I disagree i thought the game changed when de jong came on. He held up the ball. Allowed anita to play much better. Remy had a good forward to play off. But willos tackle was class. Like bobby moore on pele. Class.

Every single Newcastle manager in the premier league has been backed to the hilt. (Ok except hughton)
You made a good point that we will never know just where we could’ve gone with pardew if we’d hung on to (or replaced) our top players.
Contrary to what people may think I don’t think pardew us a great manager. But he is nowhere as bad as people make out.
His win ratio is not bad and all if this under the meanest board we’ve ever had.
I’d have loved to see him get a decent budget and good backing but like you say I guess we’ll never know.

Comment #86What the hell does it have to do with ambition? It stands to reason that Remy will want to join a PL club in the CL if any want him.
Stupid over-used word on this blog. Yes, Cabaye leaving was a cock-up, but even if he had stayed, we’re still miles away from the top 4. Ambition has nothing to do with it. 2 of the top 4 are mega rich and the other 2 have been in the top positions for the last 20 years or more!

Comment #87KT ..agreed on Dec jong he helped but watching the game earlier the biggest atmosphere changer was Willi intercepting that pass .. Then St James came alive .. Tactically de jong helped but I think the crowd finally getting behind the team helped the players .. Support the team not the fat tenant

it may sound odd but, I am glad their is a world cup this summer myself
Once this season is over i’m expecting a very long summer club terms and I’m not looking forward to next season at all.
normally i wouldn’t be bothered to see cisse HBA and marvo sold but at the minute, i wouldn’t even want to see shola sold! The cabaye sale was the final straw and i just don’t expect replacements anymore.

Comment #95Toonking .. Just like after cabayes 1st season Ashley had an opportunity to push on ..he failed .. He has made the same major error with cabaye .. We now need a replacement and somehow fix the damage Ashley and his team has made to how Newcastle is a team wanting to compete .. No top quality player wants to play for a team that never wants to push on .. There must be a statement of intent this summer or I fear for us over the next 2 seasons .. We’ve seen how there is a fine line between 5th and fighting relegation

Comment #96When KK was manager, City and Chelski we’re not mega-rich and it was a more even playing field and we still only finished 2nd. When SBR was manager, City were nowhere and we didn’t have a title challenge.
I wish people would stop rewriting history. The only truth there is that we played more attractive football under those managers. But KK was a maverick who was in the right place at the right time and SBR was one of the best managers in the world. We’d have to be very lucky to get a new manager who can perform like KK and I don’t think we’ll ever get a manager of the status of SBR again, we only got him because he was a fan!
Attractive football ok. Better engagement with the fans, for sure. But stop complaining that we’re not “ambitious”.

No, you don’t know that.
This is what is driving me mad.
Just say in January the club had said no to the sale of cabaye and then signed de Jong, gomis and ince (I’m only using them as examples)
The fans would’ve gone crazy and the feel good factor through the roof.
Who knows where we’d be now.
Instead we have a demoralised squad which pardew has to pick up (again) and make something out if the last few games.
Pardew is not the problem here, he’s a decent manager. No not great but decent!!!!!!!!!

did you ever do english at school
your homework tonight mate is learn about plurals and group words.
two things about this sentence: We never lost our top striker.
first it does not have the word ONLY
for someone to be saying fedinand and cole were not top strikers that were sold they would be saying
We never lost our ONLY top striker.
the sentence i typed does not have only so what that sentance is saying is the striker we did keep was the best of them all best means the top of the pile.
so your home tonight is
learn about the word ONLY and how that changes a sentence for saying the best of them all into a sentence that would include him in a collection
we didn’t loose our top striker mean top top striker
we didn’t loose our ONLY top striker mean the only one we would have had
we didn’t loose our top strikers mean we wouldn’t have lost any of them

Comment #105Well desperate times deserve desperate measures. We get a goal in added time from Remy. What would we have done this season without him? What will we do next season when he’s gone and Ashley won’t spend for a proper replacement? I wish I was more optimistic about Ashley but what has he done to persuade us? Nowt.

Comment #106A very welcome three points, though another awful performance.
We looked like a team in the bottom 3 for the most part.
De Jong looked good when he came on.
No creativity in the team at all.
Rookie full back taking the corners tells you all you need to know on that score.
When you look at the points Remy and Cabaye have won us, you’d be a little daft not to worry about next season.
Just glad we’ve hit the 40point mark, because that side wouldn’t stay up, if we were sitting in West Broms position for example.
Every cloud and that 😉

Comment #108There’s a lot of truth in what you say tuds. We have mediocrity at all levels in the club. WE can barely score against a poor side at home. How many have we scored in the last 5 or 6 games? Without Remy we’re lost in attack. He’ll be off to greener pastures lads, let’s face it.

really mate i would not even go as far as having kevin keegan as a great manager.
pardew can’t beat cardiff or low division teams in the FA cup well kevin keegan can’t hold onto a 12 point lead that he had halfway through a season.
people say that pardew has not had a good history well neither has keegan himself because apart from newcastle he has achieved nothing with anyone else.
really we have only had one great manager in the premier league era and he himself was just lucky enough to be a big fan of newcastle.

Comment #113I think we would have had 20 points less without Remy and Cabaye’s goals if I calculated it right. That means we would have 20 points right now and be in the bottom 3. Of course their replacements may have scored but still I would guess at least 15 points less. Think about that for next season mates.

Comment #116We’re absolutely shocking in our squad building. It’s as if we’re just coming back from relegation. The squad is in tatters and it took 2 windows to get rid of Joe. Anybody who takes Ashley seriously as an owner should take a look at the mess we have now.

Comment #119And haven’t been prem league standard for quite a while now. No movement in 2 windows guarantees next season will be a very difficult one. If we stay on this course it’s back down into the bottom 5.

Not sure whether that’s meant for me. Sorry if I offended you but I feel really strongly about unwarranted attacks on pardew.
I think I did say I was attacking you but should’ve used the word objecting, so my bad. I don’t recall using anything too offensive other than tosh but certainly didn’t set out to be abusive.
Anyway I’m off to watch last nights UFC so goodnight.
