Eight To Leave Newcastle In Summer – Five More Possible

4:25 pm, Monday, February 24th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 212 Comments

There will be a number of players who will leave Newcastle in the summer, and for some of them,  they can now do very little about it, even if they want to stay at Newcastle.

gabby obertan

Gabby Obertan - one player who will definitely leave this summer

There are two groups of players – those for which it seems a lost cause at Newcastle and those where their performances in the final 11 games of the season could save their careers.

Here are the players who we think will be leaving Newcastle at the end of the season – whatever happens in the final 11 games:

  • Loic Remy – will sign for a Champions League club – like Arsenal
  • Gabby Obertan – not good enough, although he showed decent form in his first season for us
  • Sylvain Marveaux – not given much of a chance this season – terrible Tottenham performance could be decider
  • Jonas Gutierrez – fell out of favor at the club for whatever reason
  • Dan Gosling – out of contract – never made it on Tyneside
  • Shola Ameobi – out of contract after 14 years in first team
  • Romain Amalfitano – never good enough
  • Mehdi Abeid – very likely to leave, but he’s done well in Greece – deserves a chance in pre-season

And here are players who can still save their careers if the can impress over the last 11 games – otherwise they will be on their way in the summer

  • Luuk de Jong – has to impress to get a deal at Newcastle – must score some goals
  • Ben Arfa – his performance against Tottenham could have tipped the balance – and he could be sold in the summer
  • Papiss Cisse – what has happened to our Senegal striker?  Papiss cannot seem to score with the best of chances
  • Davide Santon – had two stinkers against Sunderland and Tottenham – could go back to Italy in the summer
  • Steven Taylor – has not played well when given his chance this season – local lad may seek pastures anew

In the second list, we’d like to see as many as possible do very well through the end of the season, and we’ve taken a special shining to Luuk de Jong, who seems not only a good player, but just a smashing lad too.

Not on either list is Fab Coloccini, and whether he leaves ort not depends a lot on what his personal situation  - and we don’t know what it is with his family who are in Buenos Aries – but we hope the captain stays on Tyneside through the summer of 2014 – we need him

And we’d love to see Luuk and Loic as the front two – they both have skill and movement – they could be a really cracking duo for the Magpies.

And if only we could sign Loic Remy permanently – yes it would take a miracle – but I’m told miracles do sometimes happen. :D

Here’s hoping (and praying).

What do you think?

No you did not tell me that one. I feel much better for knowing it though, thanks :D

  • 2 toon1707 // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:28 PM

I would not be surprised if remy stays all depends on him but regularly playing in front of 50,000 cans must be a fantastic feeling we should offer to pay him what he is worth and just see what happens

  • 3 DokToon // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:33 PM

    mark,

    my pleasure, really :)

    toon1707…

    50k cans?

did ashley eat them all? lol… not being a spelling nazi, but since we are talking about our own peter griffin on tyneside, i couldnt resist….

  • 4 Markaccus // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:33 PM

50,000 cans?? Thats a lot of beer :D

Serioisly though, i hope you are right. Cant see it though. I think we would need europa league to have even an outside chance of keeping him.

Fatty will be scouring the cheap and freebies market to replace the outgoings.

ah right. I was looking up “pies” because mine was portugese for “stadium of pies”

I like pastry tin though :D

  • 7 Tom4Nufc // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:37 PM

We’re only 5 points off the Europa League… Lets keep our fingers crossed we can pull out the bag another decent run and finish 6th!

  • 8 toon1707 // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:38 PM

Oops lol obviously meant fans he looked ecstatic and could not wait to celebrate with the fans (right in front of me) when he scored so why would he not want that every home game like I say all comes down to wages

  • 9 Tom4Nufc // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:39 PM

Mag – With Ince, Hunt and Gomis available on free’s I don’t see those as being bad signings at all! I’d just have loved Grenier in January…. :(

  • 10 mag // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:41 PM

@9 Ince is overated and Gomis is one old for us!

  • 11 John Tudor // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:43 PM

  • 12 Markaccus // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:44 PM

    Tom4

    Heres hoping.

there is no reason why we cant now. We have broken our awful run, and have the best of our players available. I expected at least 8 points from 4 games (starting with villa) with hull, fulham and palace to come. If we hit decent form then we should be able to deal with manure up here. Everton will be tougher

  • 13 toon1707 // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:45 PM

    Tom4nufc

I had never heard of Granier till we were linked to him but watched him twice now since and we should go all out to get him I would say from what I have seen dare I say it but he looks just as good if not slightly better than cabaye like I say that’s only two games he might have been terrible the rest lol

  • 14 mag // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:47 PM

Old Carr the most famous scout in Newcastle will be hunting for another Amilfatano or Marveuax to hide in the cupboard.

  • 15 Ben3arfa // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:48 PM

if Pardew is in charge of our transfers expect a bid for Carlton and Joe Cole. Maybe resurrect the deal for Darren Bent? God help us lol

  • 16 Black and White with an army lol // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:55 PM

just because we win 1 game doesn’t mean that this will be a win win run, if you’s watched the Villa game you will notice that Villa could of had 4 goals by half time lucky for us Benteke didn’t have is shooting boots on, and lucky for us Krull seen that shot coming.

we had 2 open free shots that both Remy & Cisse missed

  • 17 John Tudor // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:55 PM

or maybe no -one in and no european footy
    its just not worth it
by the way you missed off cheryl cole

Pretty sure I could come up with reasons that all our players could be off in the summer

  • 19 Black and White with an army lol // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:58 PM

    the only reason

    not enough ambition

  • 20 The next Mike Williamson // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:59 PM

Of the 11 starters I expect they’ll all be there apart from Remy. I’m glad we’re getting rid of the dead-wood. Hopefully we can get some young Championship players to warm the bench.

  • 21 thejokethatisnufc // Feb 24, 2014 at 4:59 PM

If we do qualify for europa league i have no doubt that we will have another season of fighting relegation that year

  • 22 AaranD // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:00 PM

Will be an interesting summer regardless. Shola, Guti, Marv and Gabby are pretty much certain to be binned in the summer.
HBA, Santon and Cisse look like they may be off as Pardew has lost faith in them. Though I think this will depend on who we can bring in as to whether we sell them.
Remy would be one hell of a coup, think this would depend on how some of the bigger clubs bought in the summer whether he would be available to us. But still very unlikely.
Debuchy could be off if an offer from a Champions League club comes in and with his best mate gone I wouldn’t put it past him to want to leave.
Do think De Jong will be snapped up by us for around £7 million. But apart from that a lot of chopping and changing will be taking place.

  • 23 Markaccus // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:01 PM

    Bawwaalol

I know nothing is certain. All i am saying is that breaking the losing streak could easily give us some confidence. It happens all the time in football.

  • 24 toonarmydownsouth // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:02 PM

    Ed
Those lists are all over the place!

HBA only possible? Unless the boy signs a contract in the last 11 games he’s nailed on to leave, the club have basically said so, same for any one on the last year of there contract!

As for Colo wasn’t basically said he can leave with the clubs blessing if he did one more season?

Still have a feeling we can keep Remy, he ‘s been great for us but haven’t see what you’d call a CL performance from him

  • 25 WWSBRD // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:02 PM

    Black and White
Underlying yeah, not many want to play for a mediocre mid table team

  • 26 Black and White with an army lol // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:02 PM

PMFL we are not heading for Europe we don’t have a manager for this class.

1 – do we have the players for this? NO
2 – do we have the manager for this? NO
3 – can our chairmen reach these expectations? NO

  • 27 Black and White with an army lol // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:06 PM

    Markaccus

true mate this does happen, but Pardew will find a way to reverse this, regardless of our recent results in 3 seasons Pardew still plays only 1 style defence first, attack past the 80 minute mark.

Pardew speaks of inconsistency within the players, I say it’s his style that’s inconsistent

  • 28 John Tudor // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:08 PM

they said it before we dont want the el cup

  • 29 WWSBRD // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:08 PM

Wheres the Europe talk coming from? We arent fighting for that and the teams above us are better than us

  • 30 santonthenewmaldini // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:09 PM

Would be interesting to see who Pardew would sign if he was given free reign a lot of people say it would be Bent , Tomkins and Noble but in reality that would be an improvement to our squad (Although maybe not hugely but would be much better than our current fringe players )

Bent – Would have scored more goals than Cisse and Shola combined if given the same amount of chances and game time when we had Cabaye hes scored more for Fulham than those 2 donkeys for godsake !!

Tomkins – Miles better than Taylor and probably a better defender than Willamson , would probably play well with Willo , Colo or Mbiwa as Taylor is the weakest link

Noble – Tidy midfielder who can get stuck in and can also create would have been a good squad player to add for depth would be better than Marveux and Obertan at least he would try in a game

The above players are all speculation on this blog as too who Pardew would sign but I do remember interviews where he has said he has tried to sign Defoe, Lallana, Lambert , Townsend , Long for this club and he mentions giving Jonjo Shelvey his league debut

Thats quite a list of players who would certainly have been great for us (apart from Townsend who is overrated) if we had signed Long for up front or wide forward , Lallana as no 10 and Shelvey as a deep lying midfielder we would be a much improved team and it would have also gave us strength in depth to rotate properly

Pardew will avoid European competition like his master avoids spending.

  • 33 Transfer Sage // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:15 PM

No reason we couldn’t get Europe. Man utd and Everton drop points too.

    Unlikely but not impossible

we missed out on the ugly man at norwich

  • 35 Slank // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:17 PM

History has shown that when there is a mass movement (in and out) of players the resultant team rarely performs well as it takes quite awhile for almost all players to adapt to a new club, new tactics, new players and for some a new country, new language and culture.

Therefore, I don’t see such a big clear out as Ed does.

  • 36 Markaccus // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:17 PM

    Bawwaalol

Pardew is definitely over cautious. Thats my big problem with him. This results in the inconsistency. I still feel if he could just throw the shackles off and attack, he could get 90mins of good play from the team. I think it is a mental issue.

  • 37 John Tudor // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:18 PM

what do you mean new tactics

  • 38 WWSBRD // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:18 PM

Ah right cheers missed that one

    Sage
Everton and Man Utd both have better teams than us, its not impossible but considering we have very few creative players and limited striking stars its unlikely we will be able to amount a real challenge for European football…add to that the owner doesnt want it and the manager doesnt like it

  • 39 Newcastleforlife // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:18 PM

    Whether the following have future
    Tavernier – No
    Shane Ferguson- may be
    Richardson- No
    Newton- No
    Vuckinic- No

Players for whom we will get bid:
    Debuchy- linked to Bayern Munich
Tim Krull- linked to Italian clubs
    Tiote- Linked to Man Utd

so total- 20 linked to a move away from Newcastle

most probably mate, when we look at our French lads they came from an attacking style of play teams and to come here and learn nothing but defending play it will mess with there heads.

I think your right about there mentality and I don’t think it’s going to get better I mean look what happened to Cisse :(

  • 44 70TWO // Feb 24, 2014 at 5:24 PM

Instead of dealing in intuition, perhaps the real two groups of players we should be looking at are those that finish their contracts this year; and then in 2015. Here they are with their end of contract ages.

    2014
    32. Shola Ameobi
    30. Jonás Gutiérrez
    27. Loïc Rémy (loan)
    24. Dan Gosling
    24. Luuk de Jong (loan)
    23. James Tavernier
    Plus 6 U21 players

    2015
    30. Ryan Taylor
    28. Hatem Ben Arfa
    25. Romain Amalfitano
    23. Sam Ameobi
    22. Jak Alnwick

There is a definite need for an able Chairman to be installed to deal with these loses and possible replacements. The addition of players who may or may not possibly leave only supports the problem that there is not a person in position at NUFC to deal with the situation at the moment. Only when this is rectified will there be a possibility of the manager being changed also.

We do not and will not have the squad to deal with the additional games and I for one don’t want to go through another relegation threatened season.

So until Ashley is a distant memory we need to lock the passports away

The only senior players that could / will leave are:

Remy – although we may make a bid and even if QPR make it to the Premiership, which at the moment isn’t a certainty, I expect him to go to a bigger club.

Marveaux – would appear to have completely blotted his copybook.

Shola – he may be given a 1 year contract but I expect he will join a newly promoted club or a club newly relegated from the Premiership.

Tiote – I expect a bid to come in but I expect the club to reject it as he is so good at what he does and there aren’t too many like him around.

Colo – he has said that he will honour his contract and I believe he will do that even though there will be overtures from Argentina

Santon – I think the club would sell him but only if the right offer came in especially as it’s the one position where we have strength in depth.

Debuchy – if PSG come after him then he will be sold but I don’t see him going anywhere else.

Cisse – if a bid comes in I think the club will sell him if the price is right as I expect the club will offer De Jong a contract, although this could result us in having very few strikers if Remy, Cisse and Shola have gone.

Ben Arfa – I don’t see him leaving. I believe Pardew has a soft spot for him and still likes to use him.

Krul – there could well be a bid but I don’t see him going unless it is to a champions league team.

“And the Club’s official pizza partner Papa John’s thought they would join in and help United fans celebrate by offering all supporters 50 per cent off pizzas until midnight on Wednesday (26th February).”

50% off is still over priced, bought from their once and the total bill for 2 pizza’s was outrageous close to £40 and it didnt taste much different to the £1 value pizzas from the supermarkets

tbh he’s been solid this season, one of the best right backs in the league so i’d be surprised if he wasn’t being looked at by other club’s especially as they all know that Ash will sell if the right amount is offered

It’s amazing looking at players that undoubtably have talent and are probably amazing in training yet can’t do it on the pitch.
I played at a decent level in my late teens and would only have wished for that talent as I certainly had the tenacity and will to win.
To think that Obertan had Fergie as his manager, yet he couldn’t make it,the lad has more skills and speed than most pro players.

LDJ has to stay, looking better each appearance and could have had 2-3 assists on the books yesterday and he got the winning assist. Hoping Remy does too, he can be a star here for many years or can go play the odd easy game for Arsenal as a second or third choice striker. 70two at 44 tavernier and gutti s contracts dont end until 2015 amalfitano 2016. only hope when we sign players we get the right ones .we have done quite well so far .the manager and scout must talk more and decide on the type of players we want as having watched grenier 6 times recently he wont be any good in the premiership imo and the fee offered was correct and certainly not derisory. good passer but no physical presence or energy. cabella scored another now 10 from midfield but goes to ground too easily. think a hunt and r hamouma second top scorer in france from midfield would be good additions and give 100%.

  • 132 santonthenewmaldini // Feb 24, 2014 at 8:06 PM

The Toon has a huge squad at the moment which we dont really use to the full extent because most of our players are rubbish I would happily let us get rid of about 8 players and only bring in say 4 really top grade players and let the youngsters attempt to bridge the gap

I would quite happily see leave :

    Shola
    Taylor
    Cisse
    Obertan
    Marveux

Replaced with a couple of bits of quality such as :

De Jong Brothers – Siem and Luuk
Ince , Hunt or Gomis – Free Transfers
    Grenier or Cabella

The only player that might leave that we might struggle to replace will be Remy but if we got those players we would be much much stronger ha ha

    If only it would happen!!

Mistook loan contracts for NUFC contracts, the point being tho there is enough to do without speculating who will jump ship. Ashley will no doubt fluff the opportunity to sell the club and then be left with the utter mess he has created. He could still possibly buy another batch of payers to see us through but then they all have to bed in and prove they are able to defend before they get regular games.

  • 171 Ciaran // Feb 24, 2014 at 8:45 PM

In order to get Mike Ashley out we need an alternative. That alternative exists in the form of us – the fans. However, to do that we need an organisation which can raise the funds, represent the fans and potentially claim a stake in the club.

They nearly did it once, and can do so again. Newcastle United Supporter’s Trust is the way forward as far as I am concerned. If we want to achieve the ultimate goal of fan ownership then I think we need to drastically increase the membership of this organisation to do so.

It is time Newcastle United fans, the world over, come together and try to effect positive change for the long term security of our club. Groups like MAOC can bring about short-term pressure on the current custodian at Barrack Road but long term we need a model that will ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.

Read about the Trust, and think about the long term future of our club.

I had loads of serious stuff to say ..I’m not going to bother now ..

I think we should get rid of the black and white stripes …Or use it for cup games only to preserve tradition

Saying that, I would settle for just getting rid of the black stripes . leaving us the all white strip I yearn for .

I think we should get rid of the black and white strips

We should use the black and white strip for the rest of the club , youth , junior, development squad, etc’ should all play in the traditional black and white until they make a breakthrough into the first team ..

You then get to play in the prized All white strip !

The Black and white strip is to fractious ..its for referees and Ice hockey officials ..its awful ..I’v always said it and always will.. just my opinion

Let’s dump the black and white strip .

Since we’re dealing with the big picture I would just like to ask does anybody else stare up at the mighty heavens at night for hours on end and then think “My God I’ve got a sore neck now.”?

  • 188 GeordieTwo // Feb 24, 2014 at 9:42 PM

Now that’s what I’m talking about jesper mate. So suave. So debonair. With the right chest hair just about perfect. I hope Ibiza is picking one up while in Britain?

  • 189 GeordieTwo // Feb 24, 2014 at 9:48 PM

Have you been thinking a bit mates? It’s hard to tell sometimes. We tolerate no sulky behavior on here. We have high standards. We strut, we glare, we press wild flowers. Howay lads!

  • 190 GeordieTwo // Feb 24, 2014 at 9:52 PM

Oh and another thing tricky mate. If we just dump the black and white strip and go all white people may think we are Spurs! We can’t have that! Harrumph! We must be very careful. Very, very careful. We must approach this cautiously. What do people think of a nice budgie coloured strip? Possibly with a few flight feathers at the shoulders?

  • 191 GeordieTwo // Feb 24, 2014 at 9:53 PM

Well I’m exhausted now lads. I have to rub my neck with Vicks and go back outside to contemplate infinity. Beautiful.

    Hello is anybody there

  • 204 Blackley and Brownlie // Feb 24, 2014 at 10:32 PM

I can’t believe remy picks up more penalty points for taking his shirt off in celebration. He’s just had a three match ban. Pardew needs to sort it out so that players at this club show a professional attitude. Most other managers are equally culpable. It shouldn’t be hard to cut it out. Certainly no player should be allowed out the dressing room with a message on the t shirt.

That said, the football authorities demonstrate what a completely out of touch cabal they are by introducing such an inappropriate rule.

Thank god for that somebody else is here, I thought I was in that will smith film where it’s just him and his dog.

I was just reading NUFC.com about the u18′s getting beat 5 – 2. I know the goalkeeper brendan pearson’s family. His parents are a smashing couple who are rightly proud of their boy. Despite the result I’m sure he’ll have acquitted himself well and it’s great experience for the lad.

    @203
this is what happens when we get a win.
go back to saturday the blog had a lot less posts being made.

the negatives know that they would need to show some positive because the result is the main thing and we got it, so all they do is keep away.

the positives bloggers well they will usually stay away after 9pm as they don’t want to be too wound up by neggars also our conversations will end much sooner because we don’t get into arguments instead we take each others opinion right away but when battling the neggars we having to reapeat the same point over and over as they like broken records.

so goodnight welsh and good luck finding a person to chat to.

I’m entirely comfortable withe marginalization of Benny and Marv, even Santon if he’s gonna be soft as baby shite. Cisse too, Jesus, let’s just pick solid strong minded individuals who also recognise the need to show some collective responsibility. It’s just too exhausting wondering what side is gonna turn up. Same with Cabaye, reconciled to and over his departure now, made all that much easier when you bring to the forefront of your mind that earlier nonsense with Arsenal.

We appear to have enough resolute and talented players in a fit squad to put out a more than competitive side for the rest of the season. With so little to play for I don’t want to see anyone out their who might just resort to going through the motions because the lack the bottle to resist the urge.

    Are you still there

  • 211 Jackel001 // Feb 24, 2014 at 11:19 PM

If we get Grenier I will be over the moon. Even Cabaye has said that Grenier is better than him and he’s keeping him out of the French squad!

For the players leaving BYE BYE!

I thought the lads were terrific today after a very difficult week, 100%. Some of the press comment recently has been over the top for sure and it’s not a good scenario, if I’m honest.

But it helped in a way because we got in a defensive mode, a little bit, in the camp through the week. It wasn’t a great display but we never gave up, for sure.

I just felt we needed to come out and show character, a little bit and we did that. But it was a big pressure scenario, definitely, massive, no doubt about that.

Nobody should doubt the passion and commitment from anyone at this football club, because a lot’s been said and written about that lately, not in a good way, if I’m honest. But the owner, mike, has been terrific and believe me it’s been a hurtful situation for him at times, 100%. Mike shares the fans’ frustrations, for sure, but the fans don’t always see that side of mike.

I’ve read some disgraceful comments printed by newspapers to undermine this football club. The fans have criticised the club on the back of that, and we even get a ridiculous scenario of certain fans ridiculing me from the stands for keeping my hands in my pockets and not showing enough passion. That can be hurtful during a game a little bit and isn’t good for keeping in the concentration zones at those levels, those noises behind you every two minutes.

But I think most fans understand the importance of the manager keeping his hands warm during a game, for definite, because they recognise that a manager with cold hands can’t get into that full focus mode that you need at this level. For one, there’s a mind wandering scenario that comes with cold hands which you can’t allow to happen, 100%.

But as well, you can’t scribble notes with cold hands and perhaps here in the north east where its colder than other places there can be a problem with that, if I’m honest, for a manager who takes notes. I think the geordie public appreciate more than other fans that you can’t always read the notes you’ve written with cold hands and that has been a problem at half time, a little bit, if I’m honest.

A manager doesn’t need to wave his hands around and lose his temper to get a reaction mode from the players. The pen is mightier than the sword, for sure. I waved an instruction to the lads today because I wanted to change it a little bit but the lads were all looking the other way and that wasn’t a good scenario, getting my hands cold for nothing. I think we need to educate the crowd on that a little bit because seeing that can get them frustrated for sure.

Later I got moussa’s attention by gesticulating but signals aren’t the same in France as they are in England, which I think we showed, a little bit, at the battle of trafalgar, if I’m honest. And maybe that’s one of the problems at this time for a manager of this football club, that maybe there are too many french players here. The french players have been terrific for us for sure, 100%, perhaps our best players, but it’s just at times it comes back to the communication scenario and having that in tune mode.

I wouldn’t put myself up there with nelson but I think we have some of the same problem scenarios that he had, a little bit, admirality stroke FA, press, and public. But we’ve got the french on our side and that makes a big difference, massive, for sure. If nelson had the french on his side, it would’ve made it easier for sure, 100%, because they’re terrific.

So it was good to have remy back today because we’ve missed him for sure. He’s like colo for his coolness under pressure and colo made a big difference for us today, without a doubt. We’ve missed cabaye, 100%, and then remy and colo, and I think the fans understand that a manager is in a difficult scenario without these big,big players. Does Mike understand that? Yeah, course, definite, and I know the club is working on the recruitment scenario for the summer even now, a little bit, for sure.
