Over the last two games Newcastle, have had an uptick in form after the Tottenham debacle, and six points from those two games against Aston Villa at home and Hull City away, have brought a little bit of confidence back to the Newcastle fans – and to the players too.
Vurnon Anita – after scoring at Hull City
And part of the reason for the two good performances has been the form of Cheick Tiote and Vurnon Anita in central midfield, with Vurnon starting to come into his own on Tyneside and certainly he’s played well over the last two games.
Vurnon got his first league goal ever for Newcastle with seconds to go in the Hull game, and Alan Pardew has said that was a big thing in the Newcastle dressing room after the game.
This is what Alan has told the Shields Gazette.
“As much as I was disappointed with what I did, the big talking point in the dressing room was Vurn actually scoring,”
“That was a nice moment for us all. Vurn’s playing very well for us.” “We’ve had two great performances in different ways,”
“I couldn’t have asked for more from my players against Hull.” “They all got nine out of 10 for me. They were absolutely brilliant.”
Anita has scored for Newcastle before, and it was a terrific right foot shot in last season’s 2-2 Europa League draw at Club Brugge, and like other Ajax Academy graduates, Vurnon has wonderful technique and skill.
The performance of Vurnon last Saturday, as he buzzed around the midfield, meant that we didn’t miss Yohan Cabaye too much, and the fact that we scored four goals was great – with Moussa Sissoko maybe having his best game ever for Newcastle with two goals.
Vurnon was signed from Ajax for £6.7M in the summer of 2011, and the 3 times capped Dutch International has so far played 64 times for Newcastle with two goals.
And if Newcastle are to do well in these last 10 games, then Vurnon Anita will need to play very well and somehow fill in for Yohan Cabaye – and given how good he looked at Hull City, we think the Dutch International is very capable of doing just that.
We certainly hope so.
