It was sad news to hear today that Loic Remy actually says his ambition in the summer is to join a top five club in Europe, and since Newcastle are not a top five club in Europe, that unfortunately means it will not be Newcastle United.
Loic Remy – Newcastle not for him
But there’s a very easy way to understand why Remy is turning his back on such a great club as Newcastle United (OK – I’m a little biased), and that’s because his ambitions in football are so much greater than Mike Ashley’s ambitions for Newcastle United. 🙁
Even though we are not a Champions League side we could still have shown ambition, and told Remy our number one priority would be to reach the Champions League just as soon as possible.
But of course the writing was on the wall in January, when Newcastle sold their best player Yohan Cabaye to PSG for £20M, and didn’t bother to replace him.
That sent a message to Remy – if it was even necessary – that Newcastle were not ambitious and money meant more to the club than their performance on the field.
We had brought out a few articles on that point – only because it was so obvious what Newcastle’s communications were to the playing staff – when they sold Yohan Cabaye in January.
And losing big players will continue at Newcastle until we get the ambition we had when Kevin Keegan (the first time) and Sir Bobby Robson were managing the club.
Unfortunately that may not to be the case as long as Mike Ashley is the owner of Newcastle United.
Comments welcome.
Note: Owen Frost is running from Inverness to London for Cancer Research UK in memory of his mother, who unfortunately passed away in December. Owen starts at Inverness on 15th July and finishes in London on 6th August – please see if you can support Owen here.

Comment #41Spoof…from the perspective of the league table maybe you are right not everything is doom and gloom, but from a football perspective it would be a huge gamble for a CL qualified player to join us!
…and I think we will have trouble getting the quality needed unless we are willing to pay huge wages.
