Newcastle were beaten by a team who had conceded 65 games in their 29 games before today’s game against Newcastle, but Newcastle were (again) held goalless for the seventh time in the last twelve league games, and when Loic Remy has missed four games since his sending off at Norwich, we have failed to score in every single one of those games – and if that’s not a cause for concern we don’t know what is – because Remy will not be at Newcastle next season, and he will also be missing the next two games.
Ashkan Dejagah scores the winner after 68 minutes 🙁
Newcastle dropped to 9th place after Southampton beat Norwich 4-2 at home today and the Saints are now 2 points ahead of us, although we do have a game in hand on them, and we play them two weeks today at St. Mary’s.
There were not many chances in this game, and Holtby had the first chance after 32 minutes, and Tim Krul made a decent save as he put the ball over the cross-bar.
And then three minutes later it looked like Papiss Cisse would score as his shot from a Moussa Sissoko right wing cross seemed to be headed for the net, but Davide Stockdale made a terrific diving save – the save of the game.
It was 0-0 at the half after a rather dull first 45 minutes.
In the second half a Johnny Heitinga shot hit the crossbar and then bounced onto the line, and it was touch and go whether it had crossed the line, but the technology seemed to work, and the ball did not quite fully cross the line.
But that was a wake up call for Newcastle, and then Cisse had a decent shot again well saved by goalkeeper David Stockdale, who was preferred to Dutch International Stekelenburg for this game – now we know why.
But Fulham then scored the all important first goal, when they broke quickly from defense and substitute Dejagah beat Krul with a low shot to Tim’s left – and maybe it’s just us – but we think Tim could have done better.
Newcastle tried to get the equalizer in the last 20 minutes or so, and there was a decent appeal for a penalty in added time.
It looked like former Everton defender Johnny Heitinga handled the ball in the box – but referee Howard Webb waved play on – but it looked like a penalty to us.
Time ran out and it was simply a terrible result for Newcastle, and the display wasn’t much better, and once again we failed to score for the 7th time in the last 12 league games, and for the fourth successive time when Loic Remy has not been in the side.
And previous to this win Fulham’s had seven defeats and two draws in their last nine games, and this is their first win in the last 10 league games, and their last win was a 2-1 win at home to West Brom on New Years Day – so Newcastle are again so inconsistent, and game we are expected to win – we don’t.
It was also Felix Magath’s first win as the Fulham manager.
Newcastle are simply too much like a Jekyll And Hyde side this season – one week we look great and the next week we look terrible.
We hammer Hull City and hit four goals against a decent side, and then we lose to a side who had seven defeats and two draws in their previous nine league games and have conceded 65 goals this season – and we cannot even score against them. 🙁
And as we said in our first report – it will bring up the question of how many points Alan Pardew’s stupid and immature headbutt on David Meyler will cost Newcastle United through the end of this season.
And too many defeats in those games – especially against bottom of the league teams – will not be good for Alan Pardew.
Depending on how Newcastle fare in the next six games of Pardew’s ban, will ultimately determine how big a hit to the club the manager’s stupidity on the touchline at Hull City really was.
The first game of the ban was simply a terrible result and not a good display either – that’s for sure.
Did we ever say it was really difficult being a Newcastle fan? 😀

think that’s bad imagine if they were in charge of the youth.
saylor was first then it was sammy now it’s dummetts turn and next it will likely be armstrong. it’s as if they expect things to happen right away so armstrong will likely have only 5 games to score before he is classed as rubbish
