Two Strikers Newcastle Could Sign This Summer

Shola Ameobi will be leaving Newcastle when his contract runs out at the end of June after fourteen years in the first team, and there’s a very good chance that Loic Remy will be signing for a Champions League side this summer, when his loan deal runs out at Newcastle – so at least two of our strikers will definitely leave this summer.

uuk de jong close-up

Luuk de Jong – must start scoring some goals

And there are question marks about Papiss Cisse and Luuk de Jong, because neither striker has scored many goals this season – Papiss Cisse in particular has had a poor season, and Newcastle may decide to cash in on him this summer – as long as they can get around £10M for the Senegal striker.

And if Luuk de Jong doesn’t hit the goals trail in the final nine games of the season, we just cannot see Newcastle signing him permanently this summer.

So Newcastle will need to bring in some strikers this summer, and these are two of the strikers we have been linked with.

Alfreð Finnbogason

Alfred Finnbogason – 25-year-old Heerenveen and Iceland striker

Finnbogason moved to Heerenveen in the Dutch League in the summer of 2012, and he has had two outstanding seasons in Holland  scoring 28 goals in 35 appearances in his maiden season in the Eredivisie.

He’s going just as strong this season, and has 25 goals in 27 appearances  – but of course the Dutch League is nowhere near the standard of the English Premier League, so we don’t know if he would be as prolific in England.

But Newcastle were linked with this player last summer, and at that time the transfer fee was £5M, but Newcastle decided not to sign the then 24 year-old.

His transfer fee may have gone up this summer, but not by much, so this lad could potentially be a decent signing for Newcastle.

He has 21 caps for Iceland and four goals.

bafetimbu gomis

Bafe Gomis – 28 year-old Lyon and France striker

Our number one transfer target last summer was Bafe Gomis, and we were supposed to be close to signing him from Lyon for £9M in August, but his agents wanted too much in fees to complete the deal – so the bottom line was that we didn’t get the player.

And we keep thinking if  Newcastle were willing to pay out £9M for him last summer, why wouldn’t we sign him as a free agent this summer, when his contract runs out?

But things have become a little more complicated with Gomis,  because in January Inter Milan became interested in the player, and in late January he even visited the club in Milan – so we don’t know if Inter Milan are now in the driver’s seat for the player.

Gomis is having a decent season for Lyon,  and in 23 appearances he has 10 goals,  and in his five years at Lyon he has 89 goals in 229 appearances.

He has 12 full caps for France and three International goals.

There are some other strikers Newcastle could be interested in – one being our former striker Demba Ba, who is now at Chelsea, but we feel sure that Demba Ba will want to join a club in the Champions League – just like Loic Remy.

Any other strikers you think Newcastle should be pursuing this summer?

Comments welcome.

dejong not had many games lets give him till the end of the season atleast
he is the only attacking player we have that seems to defend from the front and chase the ball down and hound the opposition in there own half and this has already led to a goal his hold up play don’t look to bad yes he needs to find his scoring boots. when cisse came into the team we were doing well and playing quite well and creating chances, at the moment were not playing well and not creating many chances

his club want rid him and it looks like we have the option of 8.5 mill if he don’t score they might sell him cheaper I would still take a punt 18mnths ago he was on being mentioned as must buy lets give him some time before we right him of

dunno what we ever saw in gomis his record is not impressive although this year is better but what a great incentive a new club and bigger wages can do

De Jong has nothing about him.

Remy Cabella should come in, with Lukaku on loan? (Don’t be surprised for a third year out on loan, they’ve done it with Courtois and they’ll be signing Falcao too!)

I think lukaku will be sold at the start his loan he had a few pot shots at jose and Chelsea and implied he didn’t want to go back also with them spending big on striker they will want to cover some of there outlay

I don’t expect us to go for him in the same way we didn’t go for sturridge

jose and pards and there little bromance yet we never see a Chelsea player onloan here, and prob wont

Whoever comes in it’s certainly going to be an interesting summer.
By my count there are more than 20 players being linked with a move away:

1- Loic Remy (Loan ends and no sign of permanent deal)

2- Luuk De Jong (Loan ends)

3- Shola Ameobi (Out of contract)

4- Dan Gosling (Out of contract)

5- Connor Newton (Out of contract)

6- Michael Richardson (Out of contract)

7- Steven Logan (Out of contract)

8- Jonathan Mitchell (Out of contract; may get new deal)

9- Remie Streete (Out of contract)

10- Brandon Miele (Out of contract)

11- Lewis Aird (Out of contract)

12- Jonas Gutierrez (In last year of contract, could get shipped out for around £1milion)

13- Sylvain Marveaux (Out of favour, likely to be sold for £2-3million max.)

14- Gabriel Obertan (Useless, hopefully be sold for around £3million)

15- Papiss Cisse (Just isn’t doing the business, need to ship him out for £8-10million)

16- Romain Amalfitano (Never anywhere near good enough, likely to be given a free transfer, if anyone will take him)

17- Hatem Ben Arfa (In last year of contract, and seemingly out of favour, out the door for £4million)

18- Shane Ferguson (The club is reportedly ready to listen to offers, £1million, if we’re lucky)

19- Mehdi Abeid (Could join Panathinaikos for £2million)

20- Mathieu Debuchy (Linked with Bayern Munich)

21- Davide Santon (Linked with move back to Italy)

22- Fabricio Coloccini (Likely to return to Argentina)

23- James Tavernier (In last year of contract, likely to moved on for small fee)

24- Haris Vuckic (Time could be running out for the youngster, may get a chance to impress in pre season)

So there’s 24 players who could be on their way out of the club, we’ve got a lot of work to do in the summer.

Liverpool have bought really well the last couple of seasons, bringing in players who can make an immediate impact and bringing in players for the future and getting them sensible loan spells

Oh for a real DOF eh!

Talking of benches I know Pardew gets a fair bit if stick for his use of the bench and not playing Marv enough etc but it is bordering on criminal to have a player of Kagawa’s ability rotting on the bench never getting a game!

What are the odds that Welbeck, Young or Cleverly will get on before Kagawa? I’ve loved Kagawa since his Borussia Dortmund days and was really looking forward to seeing him in the PL, but he’s been overlooked time and time again. Makes me think that they just signed him to be their foot in the Asian market after they sold Park Ji Sung.

Liverpool or Arsenal are the models we should be following, not Southampton, or Villa or Everton as their models incorporate making good 1st team signings as well as youngsters who can make a difference in a year or two.

Under Ashley it will never happen though.

Welbeck Cleverly and Young shouldn’t be allowed to get off the bus never mind the bench, but yeah will be on before Kagawa

Kagawa was phenomenal at Dortmund, fantastic player who used to put in displays that made Mata and Oscar look like they played for a pub team!
Sadly you could well be right on there reasons for signing him, it’s a massive market for them
