Shola Ameobi will be leaving Newcastle when his contract runs out at the end of June after fourteen years in the first team, and there’s a very good chance that Loic Remy will be signing for a Champions League side this summer, when his loan deal runs out at Newcastle – so at least two of our strikers will definitely leave this summer.
Luuk de Jong – must start scoring some goals
And there are question marks about Papiss Cisse and Luuk de Jong, because neither striker has scored many goals this season – Papiss Cisse in particular has had a poor season, and Newcastle may decide to cash in on him this summer – as long as they can get around £10M for the Senegal striker.
And if Luuk de Jong doesn’t hit the goals trail in the final nine games of the season, we just cannot see Newcastle signing him permanently this summer.
So Newcastle will need to bring in some strikers this summer, and these are two of the strikers we have been linked with.
Alfred Finnbogason – 25-year-old Heerenveen and Iceland striker
Finnbogason moved to Heerenveen in the Dutch League in the summer of 2012, and he has had two outstanding seasons in Holland scoring 28 goals in 35 appearances in his maiden season in the Eredivisie.
He’s going just as strong this season, and has 25 goals in 27 appearances – but of course the Dutch League is nowhere near the standard of the English Premier League, so we don’t know if he would be as prolific in England.
But Newcastle were linked with this player last summer, and at that time the transfer fee was £5M, but Newcastle decided not to sign the then 24 year-old.
His transfer fee may have gone up this summer, but not by much, so this lad could potentially be a decent signing for Newcastle.
He has 21 caps for Iceland and four goals.
Bafe Gomis – 28 year-old Lyon and France striker
Our number one transfer target last summer was Bafe Gomis, and we were supposed to be close to signing him from Lyon for £9M in August, but his agents wanted too much in fees to complete the deal – so the bottom line was that we didn’t get the player.
And we keep thinking if Newcastle were willing to pay out £9M for him last summer, why wouldn’t we sign him as a free agent this summer, when his contract runs out?
But things have become a little more complicated with Gomis, because in January Inter Milan became interested in the player, and in late January he even visited the club in Milan – so we don’t know if Inter Milan are now in the driver’s seat for the player.
Gomis is having a decent season for Lyon, and in 23 appearances he has 10 goals, and in his five years at Lyon he has 89 goals in 229 appearances.
He has 12 full caps for France and three International goals.
There are some other strikers Newcastle could be interested in – one being our former striker Demba Ba, who is now at Chelsea, but we feel sure that Demba Ba will want to join a club in the Champions League – just like Loic Remy.
Any other strikers you think Newcastle should be pursuing this summer?
Comments welcome.

Comment #41How a player like Cleverly, Fellaini or Welbeck can get into the Man U team and Kagawa or Hernandez can’t is beyond me. I’ve said this for months.
Manchester United is all about commercial income as opposed to on-field success. They have negotiated a record breaking sponsorship deal that will cover any financial losses they will incur from being out of the CL for the next few years so they will not suffer adversely from any on-field failings in the next few seasons.
However, the way their club is financially structured should be a worry for their fans. The Glazers have left them in a mountain of s**t and should they lose the revenue streams open to them, they could be in a world of trouble.
Anyway I’m going to stop rambling about Man United and just enjoy seeing them being beaten by a much better team!

Comment #43Some of the Liverpool players you are mentioning are not doing so well this season and are not really doing any better than our bench.
…though some are really shining you got to have in mind they fit into the way Rodgers think football and want to play!
…hence the difference between Liverpool and us – we just tend to say our players are bad instead of looking at why that is!

Look at Liverpool’s bench;
Lucas – better than Tiote or Anita
Cissokho – better than Santon/Haidara or Dummett
Coutinho – much, much better than HBA
Aspas – better than Shola/Cisse, could be on par with LDJ haven’t seen much of Aspas to be honest.
Sakho – better than Willo or Saylor, could be on par with M’biwa
Rodgers/another manager may get more from the current crop of players we have, but you cannot say that Liverpool do not have much better players than us because it is simply not true.
It is not Pardew’s fault that Cisse is s**t, or that Santon can’t defend, or that HBA and Marv are 2 of the laziest players I’ve ever seen don a black and white shirt.
You don’t like Pardew, but stick to facts when criticising him, it does your argument no favours to blame Pardew for the shortcomings of some of our players.

Tads
Hernandez at the Toon? Wouldn’t that just a dream come true! At this rate I just want to see him play for someone else, so he can fulfil his potential and show what a top talent he is, same goes for Kagawa.

Comment #62Ruddy…I don’t think your comparison is fair and I don’t entirely agree.
You are comparing apples and pears there.
Yes Coutinho is having a great season, but it was not long ago that he was cast a failure or bad signing. I don’t think he is better than Benny – actually I think Benny would fit well into Rodgers team.
Lucas better than Tiote or Anita? difficult to say. Liverpool are in form and we are not. Cissokho I don’t really rate, but then again I don’t agree with you about Santon one bit.
Aspas is maybe better than some of our players if you are into Fifa or FM, but I wouldn’t take him if Liverpool offered us him…and you cannot compare him to either Cisse nor Shola. Different position and different player.
Sakho has potential sure – but he is quite expensive isn’t he?
I think Liverpool have alot of great players, but I don’t think they are way off us (well we have lost Cabs sadly), they are much more balanced because Rodgers uses his players in their right position and play a brand of football that fits the description.
For christ sake we use Gouffran as a RW/RM and Sissoko as a LW/LM and de Jong in the hole! Our stats are bad all over the place if you disregard Cabs and Debuchy!
They are not all bad players – something else is wrong!

I think pardew and the coaching staff can shoulder some of the blame for some of our players short fall whether its santons defending or cisse poor form
laziness is more a mental thing
while its not all pards and the coaching team some of the responsibilities has to be theres,
why is santon not on extra defence work
cisse extra work on timing runs and shooting
the players might be we don’t know but it don’t look like it
but the players have got to be willing to put the work in

How long has it been since you watched us?
Goofy RW?
Plays on the left mate, he played as a LW/LF for Bordeaux a fair few times
Sissoko as a RM/RW not left, once again played there many many times for Toulouse and France U21’s
As for Coutinho being labeled a flop, by who? Certainly never seen him heavily criticised over here

Comment #75tads…sorry the match report I read said Gouffran was on the right and Sissoko was on the left.
Gouffran did not play as a LW for Bourdeax, but as a ALM or left striker depending on how you use formations.
The difference is whee on the field you will fall back when under pressure.

there bench is far better than ours
Jones ————– Alnwick = fool win
Iago Aspas ——- Sh Ameobi = fool win
Coutinho ———- Marveaux = fool win
Moses ————- Armstrong = fool win
Sakho ————– taylor = fool win
Cissokho ———- hadiara = us cos I like hadiara
Lucas ————– gosling = fool win
the benches just don’t compare but 2 different managers with different styles of play but I know what players I would have on my bench
