Curtain Coming Down On This Newcastle Player

In the second half of last season Shola Ameobi did not get much playing time at all, and it hasn’t been too  different this season, but it’s still very likely  the 32 year-old veteran Newcastle striker will make the Nigerian squad for the World Cup in Brazil in June.

Shola Ameobi v Blackpool_2979380

Shola Ameobi – has made 389 appearances for Newcastle

That will be very good for Shola, and we almost said it would be a fitting end to his career, but he will probably be picked up in the summer, since he becomes a free agent on July 1st, after his contract has run out at Newcastle – and it will not be renewed.

Crustal Palace manager Tony Pulis has always been keen on Ameobi, so maybe he will try to sign Shola in the summer – if Palace avoid relegation.

Shola is not happy he isn’t getting much playing time on Tyneside, and he had this to say in the Shields Gazette today:

“It’s frustrating for me, but I just have to bide my time.” “I’ve loved my time in Newcastle, no more so than when I’m playing. “I just want to help the team.”

“When that doesn’t happen, it’s frustrating. I know the manager picks a team he thinks can win. We have to respect that as a player, but it doesn’t stop it being frustrating.”

“Hopefully, I can help us in these last nine games and get us as high as we can.”

Shola doesn’t have too many appearances to make this season, but we need somebody who can score goals while Loic Remy is out injured, but Shola has just one Capital One Cup goal this season so far.

At the moment Shola has made 389 total appearances for the Magpies with 77 goals.

The Nigerian born player made his debut for the Magpies against Chelsea back in September of 2000, when he was just 18, when Alan Shearer was out injured, and the great Bobby Robson was the Newcastle manager.

Although Shola has his critics, he’s been a good servant to Newcastle, and we’d love to see him return as a coach at Newcastle, sometime down the road.

Comments welcome.

This survey is for anyone who has been part of a construction project (past or present) that used some form of waste management on the project. See if you can help him with they survey here.

I think we will sign these players in the summer:

    Gomis – Free
    Mauro Zarate – £5m
    Benteke – £12m
    Doumbia – £12m
    Grenier – £11m
    Cabella – £11m
    Gourcuff – £6m
    Alderweireld – £5m
    Jay Kunt – £1m

Kets, that’s £63 million!!! There is absolutely zero chance that the Illustrious Owner is going to sanction that sort of payout.

was never really any good and only avg at his best (which is norm against scumderland)

cisse now becoming the same way although i hope i’m very wrong about that !

and as much as i think luuk is awsome at everything he does apart from the power of his shots i just cant see the power coming and we dont really play for the poacher in front of goal that i think he is.

goofy as our main striker next season so far >.< followed by armstrong then campbell so think we need atleast one very very good striker at the minimum.

Shola is a very lucky player who has made a lot of money from Newcastle for doing very little. Keegan tried to offload him when he took charge for the second spell but for some reason Keegan was offloaded and Shola survived.

i’d splash the 20mil for lukaku tbh ! cabella would be my second priority as he can play left or middle.

goofy is a must for a striker next season imo so sammy/aarons would play as left wing when cabella was not playing.

We’re going to have to splash that amount out if we want to finish in the top 4.

We need 2 centre backs, 1 left winger, 2 attacking midfielders and 3 strikers.

Fourteen years this blokes been at Newcastle United shocking his goal ratio is a joke I hope he isn’t the only one going in the summer his manager needs to go along with most of the others in the team.

We need a completely new team of players instead of a couple of shirt fillers. Ashley has to spend some of that dosh he hides away.

Look at the difference Remy makes. Its essential to sign a striker of his quality. De Jong isn’t good enough. Cisse has the remainder of the season to prove himself.

Shola has been loyal to the club but that’s all I can say really. The season we went down I think he was about 6th or 7th choice striker, so just shows how backwards we have gone in this position. At best he’s championship level and should be nowhere near the first team

Yoann Gourcuff could be a good Cabaye replacement. Great player. Mauro Zarate is proven in the premier league. Doumbia is maybe a big ask, apart from that, I think we’ll go for most of those players.

WUM? You? Well, I think you like to wind yourself up and anyone willing to join you for the ride.

    Kets…Didn’t think I’d heard of him 🙂

Jazzyp…He can sometimes hold the ball up well…. sadly, not enough. Will always remember him fondly, but generally not for footballing reasons, which says it all really. Wish him well with whatever he does next, most importantly I hope he has a good World Cup (and no, I don’t mean that sarcastically).

As much as I don’t like saying this with Shola being a local lad, it has to be said this kind of loyalty to players at NUFC can only stagnate any kind of progression.

I hope to see Newcastle being alot more ruthless in the future and bringing the necessary quality in when needed.

I don’t blame Shola for this, the lad has served his time here with respect and has been a model pro, he has lived the dream. His quality though a a premier league striker is very dubious.

He’s a very fortunate lad and sure he is aware of that.

Toon Prodigy…You hear Pardew talking a lot about wanting to bring through more local players. Sounds a charming idea in principle, but the probable reality is they consider it cheaper to do.

Hopefully the next lot turn out a bit more committed and able than wor Shola, I get the feeling we may well see a few of them in the near future. If we’re going to pay them wages, we’re going to expect them to play. Great system if they’re good enough.

Kets…I don’t see why not really. Unless they’ve already decided he is definitely off, in which case bed in someone else. Give him a good chance to prove his starting position, a fair few others have been given extended chances to prove themselves in the past, why not Marveaux, who granted, can be extremely creative and effective. Some times.
