In the second half of last season Shola Ameobi did not get much playing time at all, and it hasn’t been too different this season, but it’s still very likely the 32 year-old veteran Newcastle striker will make the Nigerian squad for the World Cup in Brazil in June.
Shola Ameobi – has made 389 appearances for Newcastle
That will be very good for Shola, and we almost said it would be a fitting end to his career, but he will probably be picked up in the summer, since he becomes a free agent on July 1st, after his contract has run out at Newcastle – and it will not be renewed.
Crustal Palace manager Tony Pulis has always been keen on Ameobi, so maybe he will try to sign Shola in the summer – if Palace avoid relegation.
Shola is not happy he isn’t getting much playing time on Tyneside, and he had this to say in the Shields Gazette today:
“It’s frustrating for me, but I just have to bide my time.” “I’ve loved my time in Newcastle, no more so than when I’m playing. “I just want to help the team.”
“When that doesn’t happen, it’s frustrating. I know the manager picks a team he thinks can win. We have to respect that as a player, but it doesn’t stop it being frustrating.”
“Hopefully, I can help us in these last nine games and get us as high as we can.”
Shola doesn’t have too many appearances to make this season, but we need somebody who can score goals while Loic Remy is out injured, but Shola has just one Capital One Cup goal this season so far.
At the moment Shola has made 389 total appearances for the Magpies with 77 goals.
The Nigerian born player made his debut for the Magpies against Chelsea back in September of 2000, when he was just 18, when Alan Shearer was out injured, and the great Bobby Robson was the Newcastle manager.
Although Shola has his critics, he’s been a good servant to Newcastle, and we’d love to see him return as a coach at Newcastle, sometime down the road.
Comments welcome.
Note: Lewis Williams is in his final year at the University of West London (UWL) studying for a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management, and he is busy on his dissertation on Site Waste Management Plans and he has a survey he needs filled out.
This survey is for anyone who has been part of a construction project (past or present) that used some form of waste management on the project. See if you can help him with they survey here.

Comment #48guvnor…Not disputing that all couldn’t be upgraded (although I actually think Willo does himself proud, but could obviously be improved upon), but we don’t have enough of a team as it is to lose 13 players, as there is no way that Ashley would get that many new players signed, not even close. As for Pardew, not a chance he’s going anywhere soon, otherwise he’d have been fired after the recent “headbutt” incident.

How the devil are ya mate !!…….On Shola I wish him all the best for his future endeavours whatever that may be.But he is simply not good enough bud and offers nothing as an attacking option.
Kets
How many chances and how many seasons are we gonna keep giving chance after chance to the likes of Marvs and Obershocker or even Cisse. If Ash splashed the cash like you are suggesting then these players would not even be getting a look in

It’s a great idea if they are Wayne Rooney’s.
I fear this is Mike’s idea of a cheap go around though.
What I don’t want to see is it being forced when the quality and potential was never really there to begin with, all to save money or to not invest in proven quality players.
Im all for youth coming through so long as they are really outstanding footballers. This is the premier league after all.
